Quercetin and rutin mixtures with alcohols: Spectroscopic and conductometric studies

High-efficiency fluorescent coordination polymer nanoparticles co-doped with Ce3+/Tb3+ ions for curcumin detection

Curcumin (Cur) possesses diverse biological and pharmacologic effects. It is widely used as a food additive and therapeutic medicine. A study to determine a sensitive detection method for Cur is necessary and meaningful. In this work, double rare earth ions co-doped fluorescent coordination polymer nanoparticles (CPNPs) were developed for the Cur detection. The CPNPs were synthesized by using adenosine monophosphate (AMP) as bridge ligands via coordination self-assembly with Ce3+ and Tb3+. The AMP-Ce/Tb CPNPs exhibited the characteristic green fluorescence of Tb3+ and had high luminescence efficiency. Under the optimal conditions, the fluorescence intensity of AMP-Ce/Tb CPNPs could be significantly quenched by Cur. The fluorescence quenching extent at λex/λem of 300 nm/544 nm showed a good linear relationship with the Cur concentration in the range of 10 to 1000 nM. The detection limit was as low as 8.0 nM (S/N = 3). This method was successfully applied to the determination of Cur in real samples with satisfactory results. The luminescence mechanism of AMP-Ce/Tb CPNPs and the fluorescence quenching mechanism of the CPNPs by Cur were both examined.

Adsorption and volumetric properties of some nonionic surfactants and their mixtures with quercetin and rutin

The adsorption and volumetric properties of the Triton X-114 (TX114), Tween 80 (T80), quercetin (Q) and rutin (Ru) at the different temperatures in relation to above properties of the TX114 and T80 mixtures with quercetin and rutin in the absence and presence of alcohol were discussed based on the studies reported in the literature. The adsorption isotherms of the mixtures of the nonionic surfactants with flavonoids in the presence and absence of alcohol were analyzed based on the isotherms of the surface tension of the particular mixture components and thermodynamic parameters of the adsorption of these components at the water-air interface. The surface tension isotherms of the particular component of the mixtures were taken into account while considering the surface tension isotherms of the mixtures and the composition of the mixed surface layer at the water-air interface. Different ways of the mixed surface layer composition determination were shown. The values of the surface tension and composition of the mixed surface layers obtained using different methods were discussed in the light of the intermolecular interactions and their contribution to the surface tension of the surfactants mixture with flavonoids and alcohol. The composition of the mixed monolayer and the bulk phase were compared and the differences between them were explained. The behaviour of the nonionic surfactants and flavonoids in the presence and absence of alcohol was analyzed in relation to the micelle formations and molar volumes of the mixtures and their components. Moreover, the micelles composition and their size as well as the thermodynamic parameters of the micellization process were analyzed.

MWCNTs-CTAB and HFs-Lac Nanocomposite-Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode for Rutin Determination

Rutin is a flavonoid glycoside compound, which is mainly transported via the blood circulation system in the human body. The monitoring of the blood concentration of rutin is of great significance in many fields such as pharmacology and pharmacokinetics. In this work, a biosensor based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), hydroxyl fullerenes (HFs), and laccase (Lac) nanocomposite-modified glassy carbon electrodes was constructed. The modified materials were characterized with a transmission electron microscope (TEM), cyclic voltammograms (CV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). CTAB is used to disperse MWCNTs and improve hydrophilicity and biocompatibility of MWCNTs, while the use of Lac can enhance the oxidation of catechol structure in rutin, thus significantly improving the sensitivity and selectivity of the modified electrode. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) studies showed that the determination linear ranges of rutin were 0.1 µmol L⁻¹ to 2 µmol L⁻¹ and 2 µmol L⁻¹ to 11 µmol L⁻¹, with the determination limits of 30 nmol L⁻¹ and 95.5 nmol L⁻¹, respectively. The proposed biosensor can be used to detect rutin tablets and serum samples with high recovery, which indicates a good accuracy of this method, and the results are consistent with those measured by the traditional ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) method. Hence, this biosensor has potential practical application value in rutin drug quality testing and clinical blood drug concentration monitoring.
