Palladated composite of Cu-BDC MOF and perlite as an efficient catalyst for hydrogenation of nitroarenes

Facile Cu-MOF-derived Co3O4 mesoporous-structure as a cooperative catalyst for the reduction nitroarenes and dyes

The present study describes the environmentally friendly and cost-effective synthesis of magnetic, mesoporous structure-Co3O4 nanoparticles (m-Co3O4) utilizing almond peel as a biotemplate. This straightforward method yields a material with high surface area, as confirmed by various characterization techniques. Subsequently, the utilization of m-Co3O4, graphene oxide (GO), Cu(II)acetate (Cu), and asparagine enabled the successful synthesis of a novel magnetic MOF, namely GO-Cu-ASP-m-Co3O4 MOF. This catalyst revealed remarkable stability that could be easily recovered using a magnet for consecutive use without any significant decline in activity for eight cycles in nitro compound reduction and organic dye degradation reactions. Consequently, GO-Cu-ASP-m-Co3O4 MOF holds immense potential as a catalyst for reduction reactions, particularly in the production of valuable amines with high industrial value, as well as for the elimination of toxic-water pollutants such as organic dyes.

In Situ Design of a Nanostructured Interface between NiMo and CuO Derived from Metal-Organic Framework for Enhanced Hydrogen Evolution in Alkaline Solutions

Hydrogen shows great promise as a carbon-neutral energy carrier that can significantly mitigate global energy challenges, offering a sustainable solution. Exploring catalysts that are highly efficient, cost-effective, and stable for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) holds crucial importance. For this, metal-organic framework (MOF) materials have demonstrated extensive applicability as either a heterogeneous catalyst or catalyst precursor. Herein, a nanostructured interface between NiMo/CuO@C derived from Cu-MOF was designed and developed on nickel foam (NF) as a competent HER electrocatalyst in alkaline media. The catalyst exhibited a low overpotential of 85 mV at 10 mA cm-2 that rivals that of Pt/C (83 mV @ 10 mA cm-2). Moreover, the catalyst's durability was measured through chronopotentiometry at a constant current density of -30, -100, and -200 mA cm-2 for 50 h each in 1.0 M KOH. Such enhanced electrocatalytic performance could be ascribed to the presence of highly conductive C and Cu species, the facilitated electron transfer between the components because of the nanostructured interface, and abundant active sites as a result of multiple oxidation states. The existence of an ionized oxygen vacancy (Ov) signal was confirmed in all heat-treated samples through electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis. This revelation sheds light on the entrapment of electrons in various environments, primarily associated with the underlying defect structures, particularly vacancies. These trapped electrons play a crucial role in augmenting electron conductivity, thereby contributing to an elevated HER performance.

Hydrogenation of pyrolysis gasoline by novel Ni-doped MOF derived catalysts from ZIF-8 and ZIF-67

Pyrolysis gasoline is the valuable byproduct of the thermal breakdown of heavier oil fractions in an olefin unit with high aromatic content. To separate such aromatic components, firstly, this product should be hydrogenated. In this contribution, new nanostructure catalysts derived from the zeolitic metal–organic framework, namely ZIF-8 and ZIF-67, were used to investigate their hydrogenation capability. Owing to its great hydrogenation capability of Nickle, the structures of the ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 were improved by Nickle through in situ synthesis. Moreover, to enhance the pore size of catalysts and their electronic properties, the synthesized catalysts were pyrolyzed under nitrogen media at 450 °C, and five catalysts, namely Co/NC, ZnCo/NC, ZnNi/NC, CoNi/NC, and ZnCoNi/NC were created. Results indicated that the CoNi/NC showed a superior hydrogenation performance (69.5% conversion of total olefins) to others. In addition, the synthesized catalysts without the carbonization process had no conversion in the hydrogenation process because there is no active site in these structures. The current synthesized catalysts can compete with the costly Pt or Pd-based hydrogenation catalysts due to their high surface area and great electronic properties.

A novel composite of ionic liquid-containing polymer and metal-organic framework as an efficient catalyst for ultrasonic-assisted Knoevenagel condensation

1-Butyl-3-vinylimidazolium chloride was synthesized and polymerized with acrylamide to furnish an ionic liquid-containing polymer, which was then used for the formation of a composite with iron-based metal-organic framework. The resultant composite was characterized with XRD, TGA, FE-SEM, FTIR, EDS and elemental mapping analyses and its catalytic activity was appraised for ultrasonic-assisted Knoevenagel condensation. The results confirmed that the prepared composite could promote the reaction efficiently to furnish the corresponding products in high yields in very short reaction times. Moreover, the composite exhibited high recyclability up to six runs. It was also established that the activity of the composite was higher compared to pristine metal-organic framework or polymer.
