Abstract
We synthesized Au/Fe3O4 microparticles. Initially, citrate-capped Fe3O4 micro-sized particles were synthesized by the co-precipitation method with an excess amount of trisodium citrate. Gold ions were reduced on the surface of citrate-capped Fe3O4 and grew as gold sub-microparticles with an average diameter of 210 nm on the surface. The characteristic SPR peak of gold nanoparticles on the surface of Fe3O4 was detected at 584 nm, whereas the absorption in the near-infrared region was increased. SEM images has proved that the synthesized Au/Fe3O4 composite microparticles has an average diameter of 1.7 micrometers. The results of XRD patterns proved the existence of both crystal phases of Fe3O4 and Au particles. To investigate the catalytic activity, the reaction rate constant of reduction of 2,4-dinitrophenol (2,4-DNP) and degradation of Congo red (CR), and methylene blue (MB) with NaBH4 in the presence of Au/Fe3O4 catalyst was monitored by UV-Vis spectroscopy. The initial reaction rate constant calculated from the change in characteristic peak absorptions of 2,4-dinitrophenol was 3.97×10-3 s-1, while the reaction rate constants for the degradation of CR and MB were 9.72×10-3 s-1 and 14.25×10-3 s-1 respectively. After 5 cycles, Au/Fe3O4 microparticles preserved 99 % of the reaction rate constant, exhibiting considerable recycling efficiency in the reduction of nitro groups.

Abstract
In recent years, the discharge of various emerging pollutants, chemicals, and dyes in water and wastewater has represented one of the prominent human problems. Since water pollution is directly related to human health, highly resistant and emerging compounds in aquatic environments will pose many potential risks to the health of all living beings. Therefore, water pollution is a very acute problem that has constantly increased in recent years with the expansion of various industries. Consequently, choosing efficient and innovative wastewater treatment methods to remove contaminants is crucial. Among advanced oxidation processes, electrochemical oxidation (EO) is the most common and effective method for removing persistent pollutants from municipal and industrial wastewater. However, despite the great progress in using EO to treat real wastewater, there are still many gaps. This is due to the lack of comprehensive information on the operating parameters which affect the process and its operating costs. In this paper, among various scientific articles, the impact of operational parameters on the EO performances, a comparison between different electrochemical reactor configurations, and a report on general mechanisms of electrochemical oxidation of organic pollutants have been reported. Moreover, an evaluation of cost analysis and energy consumption requirements have also been discussed. Finally, the combination process between EO and photocatalysis (PC), called photoelectrocatalysis (PEC), has been discussed and reviewed briefly. This article shows that there is a direct relationship between important operating parameters with the amount of costs and the final removal efficiency of emerging pollutants. Optimal operating conditions can be achieved by paying special attention to reactor design, which can lead to higher efficiency and more efficient treatment. The rapid development of EO for removing emerging pollutants from impacted water and its combination with other green methods can result in more efficient approaches to face the pressing water pollution challenge. PEC proved to be a promising pollutants degradation technology, in which renewable energy sources can be adopted as a primer to perform an environmentally friendly water treatment.

Adsorption Characteristics of Antibiotic Meropenem on Magnetic CoFe2O4@Au Nanoparticles. ADSORPT SCI TECHNOL 2022. Abstract
Adsorption characteristics of the antibiotic meropenem on a novel magnetic material synthesized by surface coating cobalt iron oxide (CFO) with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were systematically investigated. The AuNPs can enhance material adsorption capacity by having high affinity towards the thioether and amine groups in the meropenem structure. Au coverage on the CFO surface decreased the saturation magnetization from 55.8 emu/g to 48.8 emu/g, still allowing synthesized CFO@Au nanomaterials to be magnetically recoverable. The CFO@Au nanomaterials showed enhanced adsorption capacity of 25.5 mg/g at optimum conditions of pH 4.0 adsorption time 120 min, and adsorbent mass 0.05 g. Adsorption equilibrium was in accordance with a monolayer Langmuir isotherm, while the adsorption kinetics followed pseudo-first-order kinetics and intraparticle diffusion models. This work provides a simple method to prepare a magnetic composite material with high adsorption efficiency for meropenem and probably other thioether-containing substances.

Abstract
Chitosan, a prestigious versatile biopolymer, has recently received considerable attention as a promising biosorbent for recovering gold ions, mainly Au(III), from aqueous solutions, particularly in modified forms. Confirming the assertion, this paper provides an up-to-date overview of Au(III) recovery from aqueous solutions by raw (unmodified) and modified chitosan. A particular emphasis is placed on the raw chitosan and its synthesis from chitin, characteristics of raw chitosan and their effects on metal sorption, modifications of raw chitosan for Au(III) sorption, and characterization of raw chitosan before and after modifications for Au(III) sorption. Comparisons of the sorption (conditions, percentage, capacity, selectivity, isotherms, thermodynamics, kinetics, and mechanisms), desorption (agents and percentage), and reusable properties between raw and modified chitosan in Au(III) recovery from aqueous solutions are also outlined and discussed. The major challenges and future prospects towards the large-scale applications of modified chitosan in Au(III) recovery from aqueous solutions are also addressed.
