Abstract
A new crystalline form of Schiff base, N-cyclohexyl-1-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)methanimine (CHADMB) was obtained from methanolic solution of cylohexylamine and (methylvanillin) 3,4dimethoxybenzaldehyde. Single crystal X-ray diffraction study reveals that the compound crystallized in monoclinic crystal system with P21/c space group having four molecules per unit cell (Z = 4). Hirshfeld surface (HS) analysis and 2D fingerprint plots reveals that weak non-covalent interactions are responsible for crystal packing. The UV-Vis spectroscopy study reveals that the optical band gap of the compound is 4.25 eV. The dielectric properties were studied as a function of frequency at room temperature and the results show that these properties can be exploited for optoelectronic applications. Thermal stability of the compound is revealed by thermogravimetric and differential thermogravimetric analysis. The in vitro antimicrobial activity against Gram negative (E. coli and P. aeruginosa and Gram positive (S. aureus ) bacterial strains and two fungal strains (C. albicans and A. niger) were studied by agar well diffusion method. It is found that the Schiff base is inhibiting the growth of the tested species to varying degrees. Molecular docking studies indicate that alkyl-pi and pi-pi weak interactions enhance the binding affinity of Schiff base-protein complexes. Molecular dynamics study reveals interaction of CHADMB complexed with bacterial protein, EC showed maximum stability which is in agreement with experimental result.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
The unprecedented mononucleated ligand (6,6-di(1H-indol-3-yl)-N,N-bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)hexan-1-amine (LC5) with an N3-donor set and its complexes [Zn(LC5)Cl2] • 2CH3OH (1) and [Zn(LC5)2](ClO4)2 (2), were successfully prepared. All compounds were fully characterized by a suite of physicochemical methods. Fluid 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, as well as DFT and TD-DFT calculations, were carried out to propose a viable structural arrangement for both complexes. The interaction between these compounds and DNA was monitored in the UV region where binding constants (Kb) were estimated (2 > 1 > LC5). These data were corroborated by DNA cleavage assays using groove binders, circular dichroism, and docking studies. Both complexes confirmed their biocide activity against selected microorganisms: Gram-positive (S. aureus) and Gram-negative (E. coli) bacteria, the filamentous fungi A. fumigatus and S. cerevisiae. Finally, the cytotoxic activities of 1 and 2 were tested against the erythroleukemia K562 cell line. For all biological studies, it was probed that the presence of the indole moieties and the zinc atoms in the chemical composition of the complexes studied could increase the magnitude of the activity following the order: 2 > 1 > LC5, where a linear relationship between the biological activity upon K562 cells (IC50) and DNA binding studies (Kb) was found.

Abstract
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles have been synthesized using chain length of (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane for cancer therapy. First, we have developed a layer by layer functionalized with grafting 2,4-toluene diisocyanate as a bi-functional covalent linker onto a nano-Fe3O4 support. Then, they were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, X-ray powder diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and VSM techniques. Finally, all nanoparticles with positive or negative surface charges were tested against K562 (myelogenous leukemia cancer) cell lines to demonstrate their therapeutic efficacy by MTT assay test. We found that the higher toxicity of Fe3O4@SiO2@APTS ∼ Schiff base-Cu(II) (IC50: 1000 μg/mL) is due to their stronger in situ degradation, with larger intracellular release of iron ions, as compared to surface passivated NPs. For first time, the molecular dynamic simulations of all compounds were carried out afterwards optimizing using MM+, Semi-empirical (AM1) and Ab-initio (STO-3G), Forcite Gemo Opt, Forcite Dynamics, Forcite Energy and CASTEP in Materials studio 2017. The energy (eV), space group, lattice parameters (Å), unit cell parameters (Å), and electron density of the predicted structures were taken from the CASTEP module of Materials Studio. The docking methods were used to predict the DNA binding affinity, ribonucleotide reductase, and topoisomerase II.
