Abstract
Arthritis often results in unmet healthcare needs for older adults with cognitive decline, who may struggle to communicate pain or recall symptoms. However, the risk factors for arthritis in this group remain underexplored. We addressed this gap by identifying and comparing arthritis risk factors among older adults with varying cognitive statuses. Data from 334 participants with cognitive decline and 808 participants with normal cognition were analysed using the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging, tracking arthritis diagnoses over 12 years with Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox proportional hazards regression. Results showed 47.6% of older adults with cognitive decline developed arthritis, compared with 30.1% with normal cognition. Key risk factors for the cognitive decline group included depressive symptoms (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.87), living alone (HR: 1.66), infrequent social interactions (HR: 1.42), and greater dependency in daily activities (HR: 1.41). In the normal cognition group, additional chronic illnesses (HR: 1.41) and higher body mass index (HR: 1.09) were significant risk factors. Understanding these distinct risk factors is crucial for preventing and managing arthritis among at risk groups. Moreover, these findings can assist in developing comprehensive public health strategies integrating mental health and social support to improve health outcomes for older adults with cognitive decline.

Abstract
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a debilitating progressively neurodegenerative disease. The best-characterized hallmark of AD, which is marked by behavioral alterations and cognitive deficits, is the aggregation of deposition of amyloid-beta (Aβ) and hyper-phosphorylated microtubule-associated protein Tau. Despite decades of experimental progress, the control rate of AD remains poor, and more precise deciphering is needed for potential therapeutic targets and signaling pathways involved. In recent years, phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) and Akt have been recognized for their role in the neuroprotective effect of various agents, and glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK3), a downstream enzyme, is also crucial in the tau phosphorylation and Aβ deposition. An overview of the function of PI3K/Akt pathway in the pathophysiology of AD is provided in this review, along with a discussion of recent developments in the pharmaceuticals and herbal remedies that target the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. In conclusion, despite the challenges and hurdles, cumulative findings of novel targets and agents in the PI3K/Akt signaling axis are expected to hold promise for advancing AD prevention and treatment.

Abstract
Depression and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are prevalent neuropsychiatric disorders with intriguing epidemiological overlaps. Their interrelation has recently garnered widespread attention. Empirical evidence indicates that depressive disorders significantly contribute to AD risk, and approximately a quarter of AD patients have comorbid major depressive disorder, which underscores the bidirectional link between AD and depression. A growing body of evidence substantiates pervasive sex differences in both AD and depression: both conditions exhibit a higher incidence among women than among men. However, the available literature on this topic is somewhat fragmented, with no comprehensive review that delineates sex disparities in the depression-AD correlation. In this review, we bridge these gaps by summarizing recent progress in understanding sex-based differences in mechanisms, genetics, and therapeutic prospects for depression and AD. Additionally, we outline key challenges in the field, holding potential for improving treatment precision and efficacy tailored to male and female patients' distinct needs.

Abstract
The term "neuroinflammation" defines the typical inflammatory response of the brain closely related to the onset of many neurodegenerative diseases (NDs). Neuroinflammation is well known, but its mechanisms and pathways are not entirely comprehended. Some progresses have been achieved through many efforts and research. Consequently, new cellular and molecular mechanisms, diverse and conventional, are emerging. In listing some of those that will be the subject of our description and discussion, essential are the important roles of peripheral and infiltrated monocytes and clonotypic cells, alterations in the gut-brain axis, dysregulation of the apelinergic system, alterations in the endothelial glycocalyx of the endothelial component of neuronal vascular units, variations in expression of some genes and levels of the encoding molecules by the action of microRNAs (miRNAs), or other epigenetic factors and distinctive transcriptional factors, as well as the role of autophagy, ferroptosis, sex differences, and modifications in the circadian cycle. Such mechanisms can add significantly to understanding the complex etiological puzzle of neuroinflammation and ND. In addition, they could represent biomarkers and targets of ND, which is increasing in the elderly.

Abstract
Research into Alzheimer's Disease (AD) describes a link between AD and the resident immune cells of the brain, the microglia. Further, this suspected link is thought to have underlying sex effects, although the mechanisms of these effects are only just beginning to be understood. Many of these insights are the result of policies put in place by funding agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to consider sex as a biological variable (SABV) and the move towards precision medicine due to continued lackluster therapeutic options. The purpose of this review is to provide an updated assessment of the current research that summarizes sex differences and the research pertaining to microglia and their varied responses in AD.
