Abstract
Purpose A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to evaluate the diagnostic precision of radiomics in the differential diagnosis of parotid tumors, considering the increasing utilization of radiomics in tumor diagnosis. Although some researchers have attempted to apply radiomics in this context, there is ongoing debate regarding its accuracy. Methods Databases of PubMed, Cochrane, EMBASE, and Web of Science up to May 29, 2024 were systematically searched. The quality of included primary studies was assessed using the Radiomics Quality Score (RQS) checklist. The meta-analysis was performed utilizing a bivariate mixed-effects model. Results A total of 39 primary studies were incorporated. The machine learning model relying on MRI radiomics for diagnosis malignant tumors of the parotid gland, demonstrated a sensitivity of 0.80 [95% CI: 0.74, 0.86], SROC of 0.89 [95% CI: 0.27-0.99] in the validation set. The machine learning model based on MRI radiomics for diagnosis malignant tumors of the parotid gland, exhibited a sensitivity of 0.83[95% CI: 0.76, 0.88], SROC of 0.89 [95% CI: 0.17-1.00] in the validation set. The models also demonstrated high predictive accuracy for benign lesions. Conclusion There is great potential for radiomics-based models to improve the accuracy of diagnosing benign and malignant tumors of the parotid gland. To further enhance this potential, future studies should consider implementing standardized radiomics-based features, adopting more robust feature selection methods, and utilizing advanced model development tools. These measures can significantly improve the diagnostic accuracy of artificial intelligence algorithms in distinguishing between benign and malignant tumors of the parotid gland. Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the added value of extracellular volume fraction (ECV) and arterial enhancement fraction (AEF) derived from enhanced CT to conventional image and clinical features for differentiating between pleomorphic adenoma (PA) and atypical parotid adenocarcinoma (PCA) pre-operation. METHODS From January 2010 to October 2023, a total of 187 cases of parotid tumors were recruited, and divided into training cohort (102 PAs and 51 PCAs) and testing cohort (24 PAs and 10 atypical PCAs). Clinical and CT image features of tumor were assessed. Both enhanced CT-derived ECV and AEF were calculated. Univariate analysis identified variables with statistically significant differences between the two subgroups in the training cohort. Multivariate logistic regression analysis with the forward variable selection method was used to build four models (clinical model, clinical model+ECV, clinical model+AEF, and combined model). Diagnostic performances were evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses. Delong's test compared model differences, and calibration curve and decision curve analysis (DCA) assessed calibration and clinical application. RESULTS Age and boundary were chosen to build clinical model, and to construct its ROC curve. Amalgamating the clinical model, ECV, and AEF to establish a combined model demonstrated superior diagnostic effectiveness compared to the clinical model in both the training and test cohorts (AUC = 0.888, 0.867). There was a significant statistical difference between the combined model and the clinical model in the training cohort (p = 0.0145). CONCLUSIONS ECV and AEF are helpful in differentiating PA and atypical PCA, and integrating clinical and CT image features can further improve the diagnostic performance.

Abstract
Purpose: Different pathologies of the submandibular gland are an indication of submandibular gland excision-ranging from inflammatory causes and sialolithiasis to malignant tumors. The purpose of this study was to get an overview of the different indications for submandibular gland excision. Methods: The main goal of this study was to evaluate the different indications for submandibular gland excision during a 20-year period. In addition, epidemiological information and therapy concepts were investigated with a special focus on Tumor Lymph nodes Metastasis (TNM) classification and recurrence rate. Procedures during which the submandibular gland was removed while not being the primary cause for surgery (eg, neck dissection in Level Ib) were not included. Results: During the period of observation, 359 submandibular gland excisions were performed. The most common cause for submandibular gland excision was sialolithiasis (n = 129) with intraparenchymal stone localization. Up next were inflammatory causes (n = 115) in particular chronic submandibular sialadenitis followed by only a few cases of Sjögren's syndrome, sarcoidosis, and tuberculosis. In 115 cases, surgery was performed for tumors of the submandibular gland, with 88 of them being benign and 27 malignant. Malignancies were then divided into lymphomas (n = 9) and primary salivary gland malignancies (n = 18). Conclusion: This retrospective study of a large cohort of patients displays a representative overview of the indications for submandibular gland excision. Sialolithiasis was the most common underlying cause of gland excision. The malignancy rate in our cohort was lower than described in the literature.

Abstract
Radiomics analysis can potentially characterize salivary gland tumors (SGTs) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The procedures for radiomics analysis were various, and no consistent performances were reported. This review evaluated the methodologies and performances of studies using radiomics analysis to characterize SGTs on MRI. We systematically reviewed studies published until July 2023, which employed radiomics analysis to characterize SGTs on MRI. In total, 14 of 98 studies were eligible. Each study examined 23-334 benign and 8-56 malignant SGTs. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) was the most common feature selection method (in eight studies). Eleven studies confirmed the stability of selected features using cross-validation or bootstrap. Nine classifiers were used to build models that achieved area under the curves (AUCs) of 0.74 to 1.00 for characterizing benign and malignant SGTs and 0.80 to 0.96 for characterizing pleomorphic adenomas and Warthin's tumors. Performances were validated using cross-validation, internal, and external datasets in four, six, and two studies, respectively. No single feature consistently appeared in the final models across the studies. No standardized procedure was used for radiomics analysis in characterizing SGTs on MRIs, and various models were proposed. The need for a standard procedure for radiomics analysis is emphasized.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the ability of MRI radiomic features to differentiate between benign parotid gland tumors (BPGT) and malignant parotid gland tumors (MPGT). This retrospective study included 93 patients who underwent MRI examinations of the head and neck region (78 patients presenting unique PGT, while 15 patients presented double PGT). A total of 108 PGT with histological confirmation were eligible for the radiomic analysis and were assigned to a training group (n = 83; 58 BPGT; 25 MPGT) and a testing group (n = 25; 16 BPGT; 9 MPGT). The radiomic features were extracted from 3D segmentations of the PGT on the T2-weighted and fat-saturated, contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images. Following feature reduction techniques, including LASSO regression analysis, a radiomic signature (RS) was built with five radiomic features. The RS presented a good diagnostic performance in differentiating between PGT, achieving an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.852 (p < 0.001) in the training set and 0.786 (p = 0.017) in the testing set. In both datasets, the RS proved to have lower values in the BPGT group as compared to MPGT group (p < 0.001 and p = 0.023, respectively). The multivariate analysis revealed that RS was independently associated with PGT malignancy, together with the ill-defined margin pattern (p = 0.031, p = 0.001, respectively). The complex model, using clinical data, MRI features and the RS, presented a higher diagnostic performance (AUC of 0.976) in comparison to the RS alone. MRI-based radiomic features could be considered potential additional imaging biomarkers able to discriminate between benign and malignant parotid gland tumors.

Abstract
Polymorphous adenocarcinoma is a rare neoplasm of the minor salivary glands with an indolent behavior. Here, we report and describe the computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of polymorphic adenocarcinoma in a 69-year-old patient who presented with local recurrence seven years after the initial treatment. On contrast CT, the primary lesion appeared heterogeneous and invaded the pterygopalatine fossa and the sphenopalatine foramen. The recurrent lesion on MRI showed a hypointense signal on the T1-weighted sequence, a hyperintense signal on the T2-weighted sequence, and heterogeneous enhancement with contrast. The patient underwent a new surgery for lesion resection and is currently under clinical and radiological follow-up. It is recommended to follow patients for at least 15 years after diagnosis, as local recurrences can occur up to 10 years after the initial treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Increased use of functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods such as diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI consisting of sequential contrast series, allows us to obtain more information on the microstructure, cellularity, interstitial distance, and vascularity of tumors, which has increased the discrimination power for benign and malignant salivary gland tumors (SGTs). In the last few years, quantitative DCE MRI data containing T1 perfusion parameters (Ktrans, Kep and Ve), were reported to contribute to the differentiation of benign or malignant subtypes in SGTs.
AIM To evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of DWI and semiquantitative and quantitative perfusion MRI parameters in SGTs.
METHODS Diffusion MRI [apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value] with a 1.5 T MR machine, semiquantitative perfusion MRI [time intensity curve (TIC) pattern], and quantitative perfusion MRI examinations (Ktrans, Kep and Ve) of 73 tumors in 67 patients with histopathological diagnosis performed from 2017 to 2021 were retrospectively evaluated. In the ADC value and semiquantitative perfusion MRI measurements, cystic components of the tumors were not considered, and the region of interest (ROI) was manually placed through the widest axial section of the tumor. TIC patterns were divided into four groups: Type A = Tpeak > 120 s; type B = Tpeak ≤ 120 s, washout ratio (WR) ≥ 30%; type C = Tpeak ≤ 120 s, WR < 30%; and type D = flat TIC. For the quantitative perfusion MRI analysis, a 3D ROI was placed in the largest solid component of the tumor, and the Ktrans, Kep and Ve values were automatically generated.
RESULTS The majority of SGTs were located in the parotid glands (86.3%). Of all the SGTs, 68.5% were benign and 31.5% were malignant. Significant differences were found for ADC values among pleomorphic adenomas (PMAs), Warthin's tumors (WTs), and malignant tumors (MTs) (P < 0.001). PMAs had type A and WTs had type B TIC pattern while the vast majority of MTs and other benign tumors (OBTs) (54.5% and 45.5%, respectively) displayed type C TIC pattern. PMAs showed no washout, while the highest mean WR was observed in WTs (59% ± 11%). Ktrans values of PMAs, WTs, OBTs, and MTs were not significantly different. Kep values of PMAs and WTs were significantly different from those of OBTs and MTs. Mean Ve value of WTs was significantly different from those of PMAs, OBTs, and MTs (P < 0.001).
CONCLUSION The use of quantitative DCE parameters along with diffusion MRI and semiquantitative contrast-enhanced MRI in SGTs could improve the diagnostic accuracy.

Abstract
The lack of a consistent MRI radiomic signature, partly due to the multitude of initial feature analyses, limits the widespread clinical application of radiomics for the discrimination of salivary gland tumors (SGTs). This study aimed to identify the optimal radiomics feature category and MRI sequence for characterizing SGTs, which could serve as a step towards obtaining a consensus on a radiomics signature. Preliminary radiomics models were built to discriminate malignant SGTs (n = 34) from benign SGTs (n = 57) on T1-weighted (T1WI), fat-suppressed (FS)-T2WI and contrast-enhanced (CE)-T1WI images using six feature categories. The discrimination performances of these preliminary models were evaluated using 5-fold-cross-validation with 100 repetitions and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). The differences between models’ performances were identified using one-way ANOVA. Results show that the best feature categories were logarithm for T1WI and CE-T1WI and exponential for FS-T2WI, with AUCs of 0.828, 0.754 and 0.819, respectively. These AUCs were higher than the AUCs obtained using all feature categories combined, which were 0.750, 0.707 and 0.774, respectively (p < 0.001). The highest AUC (0.846) was obtained using a combination of T1WI + logarithm and FS-T2WI + exponential features, which reduced the initial features by 94.0% (from 1015 × 3 to 91 × 2). CE-T1WI did not improve performance. Using one feature category rather than all feature categories combined reduced the number of initial features without compromising radiomic performance.

Abstract
Minor salivary gland malignancies are a rare entity among head and neck tumors. As in major gland neoplasms, adenoid cystic carcinoma and mucoepidermoid carcinoma are the most common histological subtypes. Malignant tumors affecting minor salivary glands include a wide range of histopathologic types. Localization in the epipharynx and hyalinizing clear cell carcinoma subtype are exceedingly rare. A 47 year-old male presented to our clinic with a complaint of slowly progressing left-sided nasal obstruction. Endoscopy revealed a well-defined nodular epipharyngeal mass. Radiographic evaluation discovered a nonvascularized tumor of the tubal protuberance. The tumor was treated with wide local excision. Staging at the time found no evidence of regional lymph node metastases. Histologic examination revealed a hyalinizing clear cell salivary gland carcinoma demonstrating an EWSR1-ATF1 gene fusion. Restaging endoscopy and radiographic imaging 3 months after initial therapy did not reveal any signs of tumor persistence. The patient is currently in follow-up.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The present study aimed to characterize and differentiate the ultrasonography (US) and computed tomography (CT) features of mammary analogue secretory carcinoma (MASC) and acinic cell carcinoma (AciCC). METHODS AND PATIENTS A total of 83 patients with clinically proven MASC and AciCC were analyzed. The following characteristics were assessed on US, CT, and magnetic resonance imaging: lesion size, shape, margin, echogenicity, echotexture, cystic components, posterior echo, vascularity, density, degree of enhancement, enhancement pattern, signal intensity (SI) on T1- and T2-weighted images (WI), hemorrhages, and lymph node enlargement. RESULTS Similarities were observed between the imaging performance of MASC and AciCC. Differences between the two characteristics of shape on US and cystic components on CT were statistically significant. The proportion of MASC to regular shape on US (p = 0.006) and cystic components on CT (p = 0.027) was significantly higher than that of AciCC. Regular shape on US had the highest sensitivity in the identification of MASC and AciCC, while regular shape on US + cystic component on CT had the highest specificity. CONCLUSIONS The shape on US and cystic components on CT are key characteristics for distinguishing MASC and AciCC.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics and CT findings of parotid and submandibular gland tumours. Materials and methods. From May 2017 to April 2020, all patients with clinically proven parotid and submandibular gland enlargement and palpable masses underwent CT examinations. All patients were confirmed by pathology after surgery. The clinical characteristics and CT features were observed and evaluated. The mean density values before and after enhancement were measured and analyzed. The chi-square test, one-way ANOVA, and Student's t-test were used. Results Ninety-four patients with a total of 94 unilateral tumours in the parotid and submandibular glands were enrolled, including 38 pleomorphic adenomas (PAs), 27 Warthin's tumours (WTs), and 29 malignant tumours (MTs). The majority of the PAs (28/38) and MTs (23/29) were located in the parotid gland; the others were located in the submandibular gland. All the WTs were in the parotid gland. The most common benign tumours of the parotid gland were PAs (28/38, 73.7%) and WTs (27/27, 100%), and the most common MTs were mucoepidermoid carcinoma, acinic cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma (4/29, 13.8%). The most common benign and malignant tumours in the submandibular gland were PAs (10/38, 26.3%) and ductal adenocarcinomas (3/4, 75%). The majority of PA patients (28/38) were female, compared with WT (2/27) (P < 0.001) and malignant tumour patients (10/29) (P < 0.01). A significant difference was also found between WTs and MTs in female patients (P < 0.05). The mean age of PA patients was 43.4 ± 12.1 years, which was lower than that of WTs (62.1 ± 11.7) and MTs (58 ± 14.18) (P < 0.001, P < 0.001, and P=0.244, respectively). On CT imaging, the mean diameter of the PAs and WTs was significantly smaller than that of the MTs (P=0.001 and P < 0.001), and no difference was observed between the PAs and WTs (P=0.275). In the parotid gland, the superficial lobe was more frequently involved than the deep lobe (PAs, 22 : 6; WTs, 17 : 10; and MTs, 15 : 8). The majority of PAs and WTs demonstrated round shapes (25/38, 19/27) and were well defined (30/38, 24/27); by contrast, most MTs were lobulated, irregular shapes (24/29), and ill defined (25/29). On plain CT, the PAs were usually homogeneous, while MTs were frequently heterogeneous, with more necrosis, larger cystic areas, and more haemorrhage or calcification. The mean CT values of PAs, WTs, and MTs were 39.2 ± 3.9 HU, 39.1 ± 3.0 HU, and 37.6 ± 3.1 HU (P > 0.05), respectively. On contrast CT, the WTs were significantly enhanced compared with MTs and PAs, with mean CT values of 53.5 ± 4.0 HU, 84.4 ± 6.0 HU, and 65.2 ± 3.8 HU, respectively (all P < 0.001). The mean CT value changes for PAs, WTs, and MTs (∆) were 14.4 ± 3.0 HU, 45.3 ± 4.5 HU, and 27.7 ± 2.5 HU, respectively. Significant differences were observed between ∆PAs and ∆WTs, ∆PAs and ∆MTs, and ∆WTs and ∆MTs (all P < 0.001). Conclusion Parotid and submandibular gland tumours have some typical clinical characteristics and CT findings, and plain and early contrast-phase CT combined with clinical parameters may be helpful for diagnosis.

Abstract
CT, PET, ultrasound, and MRI examinations all have roles in the staging and surveillance of cancers in the head and neck. Contrast-enhanced CT is generally the primary examination because of availability, cost, reproducibility, and good overall quality regardless of where performed. PET, ultrasound, and MRI have more specific and nuanced applications. Good interdisciplinary interactions with radiologist consultation can streamline the examination process and reduce the examination burden on patients by limiting the number and maximizing the quality of the examinations and image-guided interventions performed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To describe the CT and MR imaging characteristics of primary carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma (Ca-ex-PA) in major salivary glands and present more information for recognizing this malignancy. METHODS 212 patients with primary Ca-ex-PA in major salivary glands (169 in the parotid gland, 36 in the submandibular gland, 7 in the sublingual gland) underwent CT and MR imaging (plain and contrast-enhanced scans) prior to surgical management and histopathological examination. The CT and MR imaging findings of this condition were retrospectively reviewed and correlated with their pathological types: non-invasive carcinoma (Type I, 37 cases), minimally invasive carcinoma (Type II, 18 cases), and widely invasive carcinoma (TypeIII, 157 cases). The binary logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the independent influencing factors of morphology and boundary for differentiating between Type I/II and Type III of Ca-ex-PA, and the sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive value were calculated. Differences in apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values between Type I/II and Type III of Ca-ex-PA were calculated by independent sample t-tests. RESULTS On CT and MR imaging, there were 190/212 cases (89.6%) identified as lobular, 203/212 cases (95.8%) with enhancement, and 173/212 cases (81.6%) with inhomogeneous after contrast administration.Calcification within the mass was shown in 76 of 192 cases (39.6%) on plain CT examination. Of 55 neoplasms with Type I and II, 38 (69.1%) were presented as round or oval and 42 (76.4%) as well-defined margins. Of 157 neoplasms with Type III, 103 (65.6%) were presented as irregular form and 110 (70.1%) as uneven margins or with partial uneven margins.The sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive value for distinguishing Type I/II and Type III tumors according to the morphology and boundary were 78.34%, 63.64% and 86.01%, respectively. The mean ADC value of Ca-ex-PA (22 cases) in major salivary glands was about 0.93 × 10-3 mm2 s-1, and there was no significant difference in mean ADC value between Type I/II and Type III of this neoplasm. Cervical lymph node metastasis and distance metastasis were found in 67 patients (31.6%, Type III) and 32 patients (15.1%, Type I in 1; Type II in 1; and Type III in 30), respectively. CONCLUSIONS Most Ca-ex-PA is characterized by an irregular, lobular, and inhomogeneous enhanced neoplasm with uneven margin or partial uneven margin on CT and MR imaging, which is frequently corresponding with Type III. And a round or oval mass with well-defined margin usually correlates with Type I and II. Morphology and boundary are important basis for distinguishing Type I/II and Type III tumors. Calcification within the neoplasm shown on CT may be regarded as a specific sign for indicating this malignancy. Low ADC value is an important manifestation of this neoplasm.Ca-ex-PA with Type III is more likely to have cervical lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the role of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) with histogram analysis of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps in the characterization of parotid tumours. This prospective study included 39 patients with parotid tumours. All patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging with DWI, and ADC maps were generated. The whole lesion was selected to obtain histogram-related parameters, including the mean (ADCmean), minimum (ADCmin), maximum (ADCmax), skewness, and kurtosis of the ADC. The final diagnosis included pleomorphic adenoma (PA; n=18), Warthin tumour (WT; n=12), and salivary gland malignancy (SGM; n=9). ADCmean (×10-3mm2/s) was 1.93±0.34 for PA, 1.01±0.11 for WT, and 1.26±0.54 for SGM. There was a significant difference in whole lesion ADCmean among the three study groups. Skewness had the best diagnostic performance in differentiating PA from WT (P=0.001; best detected cut-off 0.41, area under the curve (AUC) 0.990) and in discriminating WT from SGM (P=0.03; best detected cut-off 0.74, AUC 0.806). The whole lesion ADCmean value had best diagnostic performance in differentiating PA from SGM (P=0.007; best detected cut-off 1.16×10-3mm2/s, AUC 0.948). In conclusion, histogram analysis of ADC maps may offer added value in the differentiation of parotid tumours.

Abstract
Background The preoperative differentiation between salivary gland tumor entities using computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound (US) is still limited. Biopsies are often regarded as indispensable for properly characterizing these various lesions. The aim of this study was to analyze the value of acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) sonoelastography as an US differentiation tool when examining parotid gland (PG) lesions. Methods We included 104 patients with PG masses in this study, employing two different US devices using quantitative ARFI-sonoelastography (Siemens Acuson-S3000, n=59; Siemens Acuson-Sequoia, n=45). The ability of sonoelastographic measurements to differentiate between different neoplasms was compared and analyzed for both US machines. Results Quantitative shear wave sonoelastography is limited in its ability to reliably differentiate between tumor entities of the PG as a stand-alone parameter. Measurement results were unsystematically distributed and not transferable between the two US devices. A significant differentiation of benign and malignant lesions was not possible with either US machine (S3000: P=0.770, Sequoia: P=0.382). A differentiation between pleomorphic adenomas (PA) and Warthin tumors was only possible with the Acuson S3000 system (P=0.001, Spearman-Rho =0.492, sensitivity 73.9%, specificity 65.0%). Conclusions A reliable identification and differentiation of PG tumors as well as clinical treatment decisions cannot be made with the sole use of ARFI-sonoelastography. The results emphasize the device-dependence and high error-proneness of this US technique when examining lesions of the PG.

Abstract
Disorders affecting parotid gland represent a heterogeneous group comprising congenital, inflammatory and neoplastic diseases which show a focal or diffuse pattern of appearance. The differentiation of neoplastic from non-neoplastic conditions of parotid glands is pivotal for the diagnostic imaging. Frequently there is evidence of overlapping between the clinical and the imaging appearance of the various pathologies. The parotid gland is also often object of study with the combination of different techniques [ultrasound-computed tomography-magnetic resonance imaging (US-CT-MRI), ex.]. Compared to other dominant methods of medical imaging, US has several advantages providing images in real-time at lower cost, and without harmful use of ionizing radiation and of contrast enhancement. B-mode US, and the microvascular pattern color Doppler are usually used as first step evaluation of parotid lesions. Elastography and contrast-enhanced US (CEUS) has opened further possible perspectives to improve the differentiation between benign and malignant parotid lesions. The characterization of the parotid tumors plays a crucial role for their treatment planning and for the prediction of possible surgical complications. We present, here an updated review of the most recurrent pathologies of parotid gland focusing on the diagnostic power of multiparametric US including CEUS and ultrasound elastography (USE); limitations, advantages and the main key-points will be presented.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of parotid gland lesions in addition to conventional MRI findings and demographic data. METHODS A retrospective evaluation was made of the demographic data, histopathologic data, preoperative conventional and diffusion-weighted MRI of 74 patients who underwent parotidectomy. The patients were categorized according to the histopathology (pleomorphic adenoma [PA], Warthin's Tumor [WT] and malignant Tumor [MT]). RESULTS Histologically, 30 patients had PA, 27 patients had WT, and the remaining 17 patients had MT. The mean age of the PA, WT and MT groups were 44±21 (20-72), 55±10 (41-71) and 62±20 (21-76) years, respectively. The WT (81%) and MT (70%) groups were male dominant, while the PA group showed female dominance (55%). The PA group showed statistically significant difference in terms of age (p<0.05) and gender (p=0.009) compared to the other two groups. The median apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values for the PA, WT and MT groups were 1.99±0.94 (1.10-2.41) × 10-3 mm2/s, 0.92±0.35 (0.21-1.79) × 10-3 mm2/s and 1.20±0.34 (0.78-1.47) × 10-3 mm2/s, respectively. PA was differentiated from the other two groups (p=0.001). The sensitivity and specificity for distinguishing PAs from WT was 97% and 85%, respectively, when the ADC cutoff value was 1.25; and for distinguishing PAs from MT was 77% and 83%, respectively, when the ADC cutoff value was 1.35. CONCLUSION ADC measurements are useful for the differentiation of PA from both WT and MT; and can be used as a complementary tool to predict the histopathology in the preoperative planning of parotid tumors.

Abstract
The majority of salivary gland tumors occur in the parotid glands. Characterization (ie, benign or malignant, and histological type), location (deep or superficial), and invasion into the neighboring tissues of parotid tumors determine preoperative treatment planning. MRI gives more information than other imaging methods about the internal structure, localization, and relationship with other tissues of parotid tumors. Functional MRI methods (diffusion-weighted imaging, dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI, perfusion-weighted MRI, MR spectroscopy, etc.) have been increasingly used recently to increase the power of radiologists to characterize the tumors. Although they increase the workload of radiologists, the combined use of functional MRI methods improves accuracy in the differentiation of the tumors. There are a wide range of studies in the literature dealing with the combined use of different functional imaging methods in combination with conventional sequences. The aim of the present review is to evaluate conventional and functional/advanced MR methods, as well as multiparametric MRI applications combining them in the diagnosis of parotid gland tumors. Abstract
The hypoglossal nerve gives motor innervation to the intrinsic and extrinsic muscles of the tongue. Pathology of this nerve affects the balanced action of the genioglossus muscle causing tongue deviation toward the weak side. Clinically, hypoglossal nerve palsy manifests with difficulty chewing, swallowing and with dysarthric speech herein, we review the anatomy of the hypoglossal nerve as well as common and infrequent lesions that can affect this nerve along its course.

Abstract
The complex 3-dimensional anatomy of the facial skeleton creates a unique challenge for surgical reconstruction. Even more difficult is the precise reconstruction of the maxilla owing to its lack of solid bony support after large resections. Virtual surgical planning (VSP) technology has many applications in head and neck surgery, such as preoperative planning, fabrication of cutting guides and stereolithographic models, and fabrication of custom implants. We present the case of a patient who had undergone surgical resection of a mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the maxilla and immediate reconstruction with a vascularized free fibula flap using VSP. Using a custom 3-dimensional, titanium printed plate, which corresponded precisely with the surgical defect, the maxilla and midface were reconstructed to ideal dimensions with no unplanned surgical manipulation and a shorter overall operating time. We have described the technique and reviewed the pertinent reported data.
