Abstract
Introduction Stroke, a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally, demands heightened awareness and knowledge for effective preventive strategies and tailored response. Sudan is classified as a low income country with a low rate of literacy, lack of knowledge, and awareness about diseases. Thus, this study aimed to assess stroke awareness and knowledge among Sudanese population, and identify the associated factors influencing awareness. Methods A cross-sectional study conducted between October and November 2022 through a self-administered online survey distributed via various social media platforms. The study involved adults aged 18 years and above through snow-ball sampling technique. The survey covered general awareness and knowledge concerning stroke risk factors, consequences, and the appropriate responses taken during acute stroke attacks. Results A total of 410 participants were enrolled in the study, majority (93.4%) were from urban area and had university degree (92.4%). Furthermore, 92.2% were aware about stroke and 74.9% were able to recognize the symptoms of stroke. Only 40.2% identified all correct answers, 96.3, 92.3, and 95.1% recognized at least one risk factor, early symptom, and consequences, respectively. Females were significantly more than males able to identify at least one risk factor. Almost all participants (99.5%) perceived stroke as a serious disease (99.5%). Notably, 86.3% would promptly transport a suspected stroke patient to the hospital. The multivariable analysis showed that females versus males and patients with depression versus without depression had significantly higher odds to identify at least one risk factor (OR of 14.716 [95% CI 1.901; 113.908] and 0.241 [95% CI 0.059; 0.984], respectively). Conclusion The study concluded that stroke knowledge and awareness among Sudanese population is suboptimal. Furthermore, early stroke recognition and intake of the appropriate management strategies are lacking which highlights the need for targeted education and awareness campaigns.

Abstract
Objectives To determine the stroke risk profile of dwellers of Nnewi community in Nigeria. Methods This was a cross-sectional survey involving consecutively recruited community-dwelling adults without a previous history of stroke. The Modified Framingham Stroke Risk Score (MFSRS) was used to evaluate the stroke risk profile of the participants. Data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics at an alpha level of 0.05. Result 310 individuals (mean age = 37.21 ± 15.84 years; 68.7% females) participated in this study. The mean MFSRS (6.79 ± 5.21) of the participants was minimal with 16% having a moderate-to-high risk. Dyslipidaemia (100.0%), meat (88.1%) and sugar (70.6%) consumption, hypertension (37.7%), physical inactivity (43.2%), and psychological stress (41.3%) were the most prevalent risk factors in the population. Participants' MFSRS significantly and positively correlated with their body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), and waist-hip ratio (WHR) and significantly differed across their gender, educational, and occupational categories (p < 0.05). Conclusion According to MFSRS, the risk of stroke among the sampled community was minimal and was significantly influenced by their BMI, WC, WHR, gender, education, and occupation. However, results revealed that stroke risk might be higher in the population than was depicted by the MFSRS. Enlightenment on the risk of stroke is needed in the community.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION General population proper knowledge about stroke can improve stroke outcomes. We aimed to assess the awareness levels of laypeople regarding stroke recognition, reaction, risk factors, and adequate general knowledge (correct answers for those three questions) of stroke. METHODS Cross-sectional survey-based study enrolling community population from 12 cities of Brazil's Northeast. The volunteers were verbally exposed to a typical case of stroke and then responded to an open-ended semi-structured questionnaire to evaluate their stroke knowledge. RESULTS A total of 1475 subjects enrolled in this study (52.6% of women, mean±SD 36.2±15.3 years-old, 13.0±4.4 years of formal schooling). 1220/1475 (82.7%) recognized the situation as a stroke; 1148/1475 (77.8%) would react to it by taking the patient to the emergency department or calling for emergency medical assistance; 844/1475 (57.2%) knew at least one risk factor; and 190/1475 (12.9%) stated that symptoms could be reversed if the patient was treated "as soon as possible". Adequate general knowledge was found in 622/1475 (42,2%) of participants. Notably, among those who recognized the stroke, 19.9% (243/1220) would not react appropriately to it. The multivariate analysis showed that factors independently related to stroke recognition were female sex, higher education levels, private health insurance and previous experience with a similar situation. Adequate general knowledge was associated with longer school years and health insurance. CONCLUSIONS The frequency of stroke recognition and appropriate reaction were acceptable, however the general knowledge, knowledge of risk factors and notion that stroke treatment is time-sensitive were insufficient. Addressing the recognition-reaction gap requires targeted campaigns focusing on stroke treatment awareness.

Background: Evaluation of the knowledge about stroke in the general population is extremely vital as it prevents stroke development, limits complications, and achieves better quality of life. We assume that the general Lebanese population lacks awareness about stroke and its associated complications. This study aims to evaluate stroke knowledge and determine the factors associated with stroke awareness among the general Lebanese population. Methods: This cross-sectional study assessed respondents’ sociodemographic characteristics and the identification of risk factors, warning signs, stroke consequences, and early response to stroke symptoms. A total of 551 Lebanese adults without a history of stroke filled in an online self-reported questionnaire publicly shared on social applications. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the factors associated with poor knowledge of stroke. Results: Among the 551 participants enrolled, 403 (74.2%) were females and 312 (56.7%) were under 30 years of age. Females compared to males and employed compared to unemployed had significantly higher odds of identifying at least one risk factor (OR=4.3 [95%CI=1.1;16.8] and 6 [95%CI=1.2;29.6], respectively). Also, when compared to unemployed, employed participants had significantly higher odds of recognizing at least one of the early stroke symptoms (OR=3.3 [95%CI=1.2;8.9]) and identifying at least one of the stroke consequences (OR=5.3 [95%CI=1.1;25.9]). Reaching a university level of education compared to a school level was associated with significantly higher odds (OR=2.3 [95%CI=1.1;4.8]) of taking a patient to a hospital. Conclusion: Well-educated, employed, and female participants were more knowledgeable about stroke. Tailored interventions focusing on individuals with inadequate stroke literacy are needed. Further studies, more representative of the general Lebanese population with a larger sample size, are necessary to confirm our findings.

Awareness of Being at Risk of Stroke and Its Determinant Factors among Hypertensive Patients in Banyumas, Indonesia. Stroke Res Treat 2022; 2022:4891134. Abstract
Background The global burden of stroke is still high, particularly in developing countries, with hypertension serving as the main risk factor. The awareness of stroke among hypertensive patients is crucial for stroke prevention. This study was aimed at identifying the awareness of being at risk of stroke and its determinant factors among hypertensive patients in Banyumas, Indonesia. Methods This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in Banyumas Regency, Indonesia, from April to August 2019. A simple random sampling technique was used to select the representatives' PHCs. Hypertensive patients who came regularly to the PHCs were consecutively recruited. Data were collected through a self-reported questionnaire and medical records. The main outcome was the level of participants' awareness of being at risk of stroke. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to measure determinant factors associated with the level of awareness. Results Out of 457 patients investigated, 77.46% had a low level of awareness. Low knowledge of hypertension, low income, and no history of previous stroke were associated with a low-level of awareness (odds ratio (OR) 1.942, 95% CI 1.195-3.158, p 0.007; OR 2.321, 95% CI 1.326-4.064, p 0.003; and OR 6.033, 95% CI 2.450-14.858, p < 0.001, respectively). Conclusion Majority of hypertensive patients were unaware of being at risk of stroke. Knowledge of hypertension, income, and history of previous stroke are factors that may influence the awareness of being at risk of stroke among them. This emphasizes the need to provide better campaigns and education programs to raise the awareness of stroke in a community setting, particularly for the population at risk.

Abstract
Background and objective: Stroke is the second leading cause of death in Jordan and over the world. Knowledge and awareness towards stroke play a crucial role in the management and prevention of its complications. This study aims to assess the knowledge and awareness about stroke among the Jordanian population and determine factors associated with stroke awareness. Methods: This cross-sectional study through a web-based anonymous questionnaire that needed 10 minutes to be completed. It examined sociodemographic characteristics and recognition of the risk factors, warning signs, stroke consequences, and early response to stroke symptoms. Logistic regression analysis identified the factors associated with poor knowledge of stroke. Results: A total of 573 Jordanian adults participated in this study. The participant's ability to identify at least one early symptom of stroke and the proper response to the symptoms were significantly correlated with the educational level (OR of 3.4 and 2.5, respectively). At least one consequence of stroke was significantly associated with different demographic factors such as gender, socioeconomic income, females versus males and those with medium income versus low income had significantly higher odds (OR of 6.6 and 4.1, respectively). Conclusion: This study revealed a good knowledge and awareness level about stroke among Jordanians correlated mainly with their educational level. Therefore, new strategies should be considered to decrease the prevalence of stroke in Jordan, including the need for engagement in enhanced awareness campaigns.

Abstract
Background and objective: Stroke is the second leading cause of death in Jordan and over the world. Knowledge and awareness towards stroke play a crucial role in the management and prevention of its complications. This study aims to assess the knowledge and awareness about stroke among the Jordanian population and determine factors associated with stroke awareness. Methods: This cross-sectional study through a web-based anonymous questionnaire that needed 10 minutes to be completed. It examined sociodemographic characteristics and recognition of the risk factors, warning signs, stroke consequences, and early response to stroke symptoms. Logistic regression analysis identified the factors associated with poor knowledge of stroke. Results: A total of 573 Jordanian adults participated in this study. The participant's ability to identify at least one early symptom of stroke and the proper response to the symptoms were significantly correlated with the educational level (OR of 3.4 and 2.5, respectively). At least one consequence of stroke was significantly associated with different demographic factors such as gender, socioeconomic income, females versus males and those with medium income versus low income had significantly higher odds (OR of 6.6 and 4.1, respectively). Conclusion: This study revealed a good knowledge and awareness level about stroke among Jordanians correlated mainly with their educational level. Therefore, new strategies should be considered to decrease the prevalence of stroke in Jordan, including the need for engagement in enhanced awareness campaigns.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The number of people with disabilities is increasing. People with disabilities are more likely to be physically inactive, which can lead to chronic diseases, including stroke. Stroke is a leading cause of illness and death worldwide, but little is known regarding stroke among people with disabilities. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the incidence density rate, relative risk, and associated risk factors of stroke and measure the risk of death due to stroke among people with disabilities in Taiwan. METHODS This retrospective cohort study used nationwide data from the National Health Insurance Research Database, National Disability Registry Database, and Cause of Death File. Incidence density rates of stroke were estimated as new cases per 1000 person-years. Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate the relative risk of stroke, adjusted survival curves, and adjusted cumulative incidence curves. RESULTS A total of 670,630 people with disabilities were included in our analyses. The average person-years of observation was 9.43 ± 5.31, with a yearly rate of 16.72 new cases of stroke per 1000 person-years. The highest risk of stroke was found among people with balance disorder (hazard ratio [HR] = 2.27, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.00-2.57) and intractable epilepsy (HR = 1.85, 95% CI = 1.56-2.19). The highest risk of death due to stroke was found among people with dementia and multiple disabilities. CONCLUSIONS Stroke rates were higher among people with disabilities than among the general population, and certain disabilities were associated with a higher stroke risk and death rate.

Abstract
Low socioeconomic status influence on the risk of stroke mortality. Low income and ocuption for stroke mortality is higher than education. The heterogeneity of the study was mainly from different SES indicator.
Low socioeconomic status appears to be an independent risk factor for stroke mortality in epidemiology studies, but there has been no systematic assessment of this association. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating the association between low socioeconomic status and stroke mortality. A systematic review of MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Web of Science for cohort studies that reported low socioeconomic status and stroke mortality was conducted from inception until July 2017. Research information, adjusted risk ratio (RR) estimates and 95% confidence intervals (Cls) were extracted. Estimates were pooled using a random-effects model. Heterogeneity was examined using the Q statistic and I2. Twenty-seven prospective cohort studies (471,354,852 subjects; 429,886 deaths) assessing stroke mortality with low socioeconomic status were identified. Compared with the highest socioeconomic status, overall RR of stroke mortality was 1.39 (95% CI, 1.31–1.48) for those with the lowest after adjustment for confounding factors, but there was substantial heterogeneity between studies (I2 = 89.9%, P = 0.001). Significant relationships were observed between risk of stroke mortality and the lowest education (RR = 1.21, 95% CI 1.11–1.33; I2 = 70.9%, P < 0.001), income (RR = 1.54, 95% CI 1.30–1.82; I2 = 91.6%, P < 0.001), occupation (RR = 1.54, 95% CI 1.35–1.75; I2 = 78.3%, P < 0.001), composite socioeconomic status (RR = 1.37, 95% CI 1.25–1.51; I2 = 69.5%, P = 0.001). After subgroup analysis, it was found that the heterogeneity of each SES indicator mainly came from the follow-up time, study population, stroke type, study area. Patients with low socioeconomic status had a higher risk of stroke mortality. The heterogeneity of income and occupation is larger, and the education and composite SES is smaller.

Abstract
Objectives: To examine the awareness about major symptoms, risk factors, and response to stroke among the population in Abha, Southwestern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Improving stroke-related knowledge may advance stroke prevention and reduce pretreatment delay and disabilities. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study among a representative sample of primary healthcare adult patients between January-May 2016 and used a validated Arabic questionnaire to evaluate the participants’ awareness about stroke. Results: The study involved 1472 adults. Only 63.6% and 43.7% of participants correctly recognized thrombosis and hemorrhage as types of stroke. Commonly identified risk factors were hypertension (55.8%), dyslipidemia (45.8%), and smoking (41.9%). Sudden severe headache (54.1%), dizziness (51.0%), and difficulty in speaking (44.3%) were the most frequently recognized symptoms. The most frequently reported correct responses to stroke were contacting a doctor (73.0%), going to the hospital (67.2%), and calling an ambulance (52.4%). Improper responses to stroke (ignoring the condition or self-prescription) were noted in 18.8% of participants. Logistic regression revealed that physicians, nurses, friends and relatives as a source of knowledge were significantly associated with a lower insufficient knowledge of stroke symptoms and risk factors. On the other hand, women, persons above 40 years old, and married persons were significantly more prone to have insufficient knowledge about a proper response to stroke. Conclusion: Our study revealed a notable deficit of knowledge about warning symptoms, risk factors, and proper response to stroke. Health education strategies to improve stroke awareness are required and could potentially prevent and improve the outcome of stroke.

Abstract
Objective To determine the awareness of stroke symptoms and risk factors in middle and
high school students at a single institution. Methods An 11-question multiple-choice stroke awareness survey was administered to
students in grades 7 to 12 at City High Middle School in Grand Rapids,
Michigan, United States. Summary statistics were calculated. Results A total of 603/608 surveys were analyzed. Only 8% of respondents correctly
identified stroke as the fifth leading cause of death in the United States.
Half (50.1%) recognized that a stroke occurred in the brain. Sixty-seven
students (11.1%) correctly identified all 11 stroke risk factors. Only 5.1%
correctly selected all four correct stroke symptoms. Two-thirds (64.5%)
recognized stroke as an immediate medical emergency. Slightly more than half
(55.9%) knew the acronym FAST (face, arms, speech, time). Conclusions Most students in our study were unaware of all the risk factors and symptoms
related to stroke. Although this study was limited because data were
collected from only one school, the findings suggest a need to educate
middle and high school students about stroke risk factors, symptoms and
acute interventions.

Abstract
Background and purpose Recent studies have revealed socioeconomic disparities in stroke outcomes. Here, we investigated whether prehospital stroke care differs with respect to socioeconomic status (SES). Methods Consecutive stroke and TIA patients (n = 3006) admitted to stroke units at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg, Sweden, from 1 November 2014 to 31 July 2016, were included. Data on prehospital care were obtained from a local stroke register. Socioeconomic status was classified according to the average level of income and education within each patient’s neighbourhood (postcode area). Results The median system delay from calling the emergency medical communication centre (EMCC) to start of brain computed tomography on hospital arrival was 3 h 47 min (95% confidence interval (CI) 3 h 30 min to 4 h 05 min) for patients within the lowest SES tertile and 3 h 17 min (95% CI 3 h 00 min to 3 h 37 min) for the highest tertile (p < 0.05). Patients with a lower SES were less likely to receive the highest priority in the ambulance (p < 0.05) and had lower rates of prehospital recognition of stroke/TIA (p < 0.05) than those with a high SES. No inequities were found concerning EMCC prioritisation or the probability of ambulance transport. Conclusions We found socioeconomic inequities in prehospital stroke care which could affect the efficacy of acute stroke treatment. The ambulance nurses’ ability to recognise stroke/TIA may partly explain the observed inequities.
