Effect of individualized comfortable nursing on prognosis of vacuum sealing drainage in patients with orthopedic trauma

To explore the effect of individualized comfortable nursing on prognosis of vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) in patients with orthopedic trauma. 110 patients with orthopedic trauma VSD were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group, with 55 patients in each group receiving routine care and comfortable care. The wound healing time, visual analog scale, quality of life score, the level of inflammatory factors, the incidence of complications, and patient satisfaction were compared between the 2 groups. The average time of wound healing in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < .01). The satisfaction rate in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P = .029). Meanwhile, the results showed that visual analog scale and quality of life scores in the observation group was significantly improved than that of the control group after receiving intervention (P < .05). After receiving intervention, the levels of TNF-α and IL-6 of patients in both groups were decreased, and the levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in the observation group were significantly decreased than those in the control group. Moreover, the incidence rate of adverse reaction in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < .01). Comfortable nursing can reduce the wound healing time, the postoperative pain level, the incidence of complications, and improve patient satisfaction, which is of great significance for the prognosis of VSD in patients with orthopedic trauma.

Computer-assisted surgery and navigation in foot and ankle: state of the art and fields of application

Computer-assisted orthopaedic surgery (CAOS) is a real-time navigation guidance system that supports surgeons intraoperatively.Its use is reported to increase precision and facilitate less-invasive surgery.Advanced intraoperative imaging helps confirm that the initial aim of surgery has been achieved and allows for immediate adjustment when required.The complex anatomy of the foot and ankle, and the associated wide range of challenging procedures should benefit from the use of CAOS; however, reports on the topic are scarce.This article explores the fields of applications of real-time navigation and CAOS in foot and ankle surgery. Advances in the Preoperative Planning of Revision Trauma Surgery Using 3D Printing Technology

The management of complex fractures at the time of revision surgery remains one of the most challenging tasks for orthopaedic trauma surgeons. As the major principle of treatment remains to achieve an anatomic reduction and a stable fixation, precise preoperative diagnostics and treatment planning are of utmost importance. Thus, knowledge of the 3-dimensional anatomy of the fracture site and its surrounding tissue is indispensable. However, radiographic tools have thus far mostly been unable to recapitulate the complexity of the fracture site in toto. In recent years, the development of 3-dimensional (3D) printers has led to novel opportunities in preoperative planning of complex operative procedures. Although the application of 3D printers has become increasingly popular in orthopaedic surgery, its implementation in trauma surgery is so far mostly limited to the preoperative planning of surgery in patients with pelvic and acetabular fractures/defects. Moreover, reports describing the advantages using this sophisticated methodology in revision trauma surgery are sparse. In this article, we report our experience using novel 3D printing technologies for the management of revision surgery in orthopaedic trauma. In particular, we describe the benefit of using 3D printing technologies in the preoperative planning of complex revision surgery of the proximal tibia, the elbow joint, the distal femur, the ankle joint, and several others. With the advantage to preoperatively plan the optimal surgical approach, implant placement, and contouring as well as the possibility to anticipate intraoperative difficulties, we believe that this emerging technology is of significant value for revision surgery in orthopaedic trauma.
