Abstract
PURPOSE To systematically review existing evidence on outcomes of endovascular repair of abdominal atherosclerotic penetrating aortic ulcers (PAUs). MATERIAL AND METHODS Cochrane Central Registry of Registered Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE (via PubMed), and Web of Science databases were systematically searched. The systematic review was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis protocol (PRISMA-P 2020). The protocol was registered in the international registry of systematic reviews (PROSPERO CRD42022313404). Studies reporting on technical and clinical outcomes of endovascular PAU repair in 3 or more patients were included. Random effects modeling was used to estimate pooled technical success, survival, reinterventions, and type 1 and type 3 endoleaks. Statistical heterogeneity was assessed using the I2 statistic. Pooled results are reported with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Study quality was assessed using an adapted version of the Modified Coleman Methodology Score. RESULTS Sixteen studies including 165 patients with a mean/median age ranging from 64 to 78 years receiving endovascular therapy for PAU between 1997 and 2020 were identified. Pooled technical success was 99.0% (CI: 96.0%-100%). In all, 30-day mortality was 1.0% (CI: 0%-6.0%) with an in-hospital mortality of 1.0% (CI: 0.0%-13.0%). There were no reinterventions, type 1, or type 3 endoleaks at 30 days. Median/mean follow-up ranged from 1 to 33 months. Overall, there were 16 deaths (9.7%), 5 reinterventions (3.3%), 3 type 1 (1.8%), and 1 type 3 endoleak (0.6%) during follow-up. The quality of studies was rated low according to the Modified Coleman score at 43.4 (+/- 8.5) of 85 points. CONCLUSION There is low-level evidence on outcomes of endovascular PAU repair. While in the short-term endovascular repair of abdominal PAU seems safe and effective, mid-term and long-term data are lacking. Recommendations with regard to treatment indications and techniques in asymptomatic PAU should be made cautiously. CLINICAL IMPACT This systematic review demonstrated that evidence on outcomes of endovascular abdominal PAU repair is limited. While in the short-term endovascular repair of abdominal PAU seems safe and effective, mid-term and long-term data are lacking. In the context of a benign prognosis of asymptomatic PAU and lacking standardization in current reporting, recommendations with regard to treatment indications and techniques in asymptomatic PAUs should be made cautiously.

Abstract
Acute aortic syndromes are life-threatening conditions with high morbidity and mortality. The principal pathological feature is acute wall damage with possible evolution towards aortic rupture. Accurate and timely diagnosis is mandatory to avoid catastrophic consequences. Indeed, misdiagnosis with other conditions mimicking acute aortic syndromes is associated with premature death. In this view, cardiovascular imaging is necessary for the correct diagnosis and management. Echocardiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and aortography allow for diagnosis, guarantee immediate treatment, and detect associated complications. Multimodality imaging is essential in the diagnostic work-up to confirm or rule out acute aortic syndromes. The aim of this review is to highlight the contemporary evidence on the role of single cardiovascular imaging techniques and multimodality imaging in the diagnosis and management of acute aortic syndromes.

Abstract
Objective The aim of this study was to better understand the characteristics and etiology of acute nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (ANVUGIB) in recent years in this region and to provide evidence-based medical evidence. Methods 100 patients with acute nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (ANVUGIB) who met the clinical diagnostic criteria of ANVUGIB admitted to Suzhou First People's Hospital from January 2017 to December 2021 were analyzed, as well as the age difference and change rule. According to age, 100 patients were divided into young (18-39 years), middle-aged (40-59 years), and elderly (60 years and above), and the differences in the three groups were compared. The etiology was confirmed by endoscopic examination and was recorded one by one in a well-designed ANVUGIB case data registration form. Statistical software SPSS 23.0 was used for analysis. Results Gastric ulcer was the main cause in the elderly group (50.0%), duodenal ulcer was the main cause in the middle and young groups, and gastrointestinal cancer (7.1%) and marginal ulcer (2.3%) in the elderly group were higher than those in the young group. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (52.3%) were the main inducement in the elderly group, which was significantly higher than in the middle-aged group (13.1%) and the young group (5%) (P < 0.01). Drinking, fatigue, and emotional excitement led to a higher proportion in the middle-aged group and the young group, in comparison to the elderly group (P < 0.01). Conclusion Peptic ulcer is the most common cause of acute nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding, followed by acute gastric mucosal lesions and upper digestive system tumors, compared with nonulcer.

Abstract
Objectives Academic medical literature is fraught with complex article-specific acronyms and abbreviations that can impair communication and make reading arduous. Our goal is to ease frustration with bespoke, inconsistent, and variable sets of abbreviations that currently exist for common aorta-related terminology (eg, anatomy, imaging, disease, and therapy). We hope to ease reading and improve communication in the aortic sphere of cardiovascular literature. Methods We reviewed a total of 205 published references related to aortic disease, including a systematic review of aorta-related articles in the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery from the years 2020 and 2021. The array of variable definitions, abbreviations, and acronyms encountered in different papers that refer to the same terminology was striking, revealing that there were few standardized abbreviations in the aortic literature. We cataloged these terms, their associated abbreviations, and their frequency of use, and compiled a list of proposed standard abbreviations for commonly used terms that could be implemented uniformly in articles written about aortic diseases. Results We present suggested acronyms and abbreviations for common terminology related to the aorta. It is anticipated that this standard list will evolve over time as the literature and technology of the field grows and develops. Conclusions A proposed standard set of acronyms and abbreviations for aorta-related terminology is provided that, if found useful, could be implemented broadly in the aortic literature.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE In the present study, we have reported the midterm results of endovascular repair of acute zone 0 intramural hematomas (IMHs) with the most proximal tear or ulcer-like projection (ULP) in the descending aorta. METHODS Data from patients with acute zone 0 IMH with the most proximal tear or ULP in the descending aorta from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2019, were retrospectively reviewed. We performed Kaplan-Meier curves to calculate the intervention-free survival and survival after endovascular or open surgical repair. We used propensity score matching to compare the outcomes of endovascular and open surgical repair. RESULTS The present study included 99 patients. Of the 99 patients, 34 had initially received medical treatment. The 0.5-, 1-, and 3-year intervention-free survival rates for the 34 patients were 23.5%, 17.6%, and 14.7%, respectively. Of the 99 patients, 51 had undergone endovascular therapy, 27 after initial medical treatment. Most of these 51 patients had had a maximal diameter of the ascending aorta of <50 mm and a maximal diameter of IMH in the ascending aorta of <10 mm. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival rate for the endovascular group was 98.0%. Finally, 42 patients had undergone open surgery (3 after medical treatment), and the 1-, 3-, 5-year survival rates were all 92.9%. After propensity score matching, no statistically significant difference was found in the 30-day and follow-up mortality. However, endovascular repair was associated with a shorter operation time (69 vs 314 minutes; P < .001), shorter length of intensive care unit stay (24 vs 70 hours; P = .001), and shorter length of hospital stay (7 vs 12 days; P = .011). CONCLUSIONS For patients with acute zone 0 IMH and the most proximal tear or ULP in the descending aorta, in addition to open surgery, endovascular repair is an option if the maximal diameter of the ascending aorta is <50 mm and the maximal diameter of the IMH in the ascending aorta is <10 mm.
