Abstract
The present study assessed the effect of active application of self-etch adhesives with diode laser irradiation on the shear dentin bond strength. Sixty bovine incisors, each embedded individually in hard plaster blocks, were divided into two groups based on the adhesive system used: Group 1 Adper Easy One and Group 2 Clearfil SE Protect. Based on the application technique of self-etch adhesives, each main group was further divided into three subgroups: passive application, active application with a micro-brush, and active application with a 976-nm diode laser tip (phototherapy active application). Shear bond strength tests were conducted using a universal testing machine and the data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA. Post hoc multiple comparisons were performed with the Tukey HSD test. Additionally, the statistical analysis of failure mode distribution was carried out using the chi-squared test (p < 0.05). While the adhesive system exhibited significant differences in shear dentin bond strengths, there were no significant differences in application techniques. Regardless of the application technique, Clearfil SE Protect demonstrated significantly higher dentin bond strength than Adper Easy One. In the present study, the utilization of phototherapy through a 976-nm diode laser for the active application of the tested self-etch adhesives demonstrated similar initial dentin bond strengths to conventional application methods.

Abstract
Assessment of the antimicrobial, micro tensile bond strength (μTBS), and degree of conversion (DC) of fifth-generation adhesive modified using photoactivated 0.5% rose bengal (RB) and photoactivated RB-doped titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2NPs) in different concentrations (2% and 5%) as compared with the unmodified adhesive bonded to the carious affected dentin (CAD). Forty mandibular molars with caries progression up to the middle third of the dentin, as per the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS) score of 4 and 5 were included. Specimens were divided into four groups based on etch and rinse adhesive (ERA) modification group 1: unmodified ERA, group 2: photoactivated 0.5% RB photosensitizer (PS) modified ERA, group 3: photoactivated RB-doped 2 wt% TiO2NPs adhesive, group 4: photoactivated RB-doped 5 wt% TiO2NPs adhesive. Followed by adhesive and composite restoration on the CAD surface. All the specimens were thermocycled and an assessment of μTBS and failure pattern analysis was performed. The antibacterial potency of RB and RB-doped TiO2NPs (2% and 5%) followed by their activation using visible light against Streptococcus mutans (S.mutans) were tested. The survival rate of S.mutans was assessed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The analysis of μTBS involved the use of ANOVA, followed by a post-hoc Tukey honestly significant difference (HSD) multiple comparisons test. Group 1 (Unmodified ERA) (0.52 ± 0.31 CFU/mL) treated samples unveiled the highest means of bacterial survival and lowest μTBS (11.32 ± 0.63 MPa). Nevertheless, group 4: photoactivated RB-doped 5 wt% TiO2NPs adhesive displayed the lowest outcomes of S.mutans survival (0.11 ± 0.02 CFU/mL) and highest bond strength (18.76 ± 1.45 MPa). The photoactivated RB-doped 2 wt% TiO2NPs in adhesive demonstrated promising enhancements in both μTBS and antibacterial efficacy against S.mutans. However, it is noteworthy that this modification led to a decrease in the DC of the adhesive. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: Unmodified ERA-treated samples unveiled the highest bacterial survival and the lowest μTBS. Photoactivated RB-doped 5 wt% TiO2NPs adhesive displayed the lowest S.mutans survival rate and highest bond strength. DC decreased with an increase in concentration of TiO2.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Orthodontic treatment with fixed vestibular appliances is still widely used worldwide. When choosing the aesthetic alternative of ceramic brackets, the possibility of failure and cracking of braces should be considered. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to compare the failure rates of ceramic and metal brackets in a 12-month clinical study. METHODS Eighty patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment with vestibular appliances were enrolled and divided into 2 equal groups: MET for metal brackets and CER for ceramic brackets. After bonding, bracket failures were recorded for 12 months, along with the archwire placed at the time of failure. Angle's dental class, skeletal class, Wits appraisal, Little's irregularity index, overjet, overbite, age, and gender of the patients were recorded from pretreatment cephalometric tracings and study casts. The data were statistically analysed (P < .05). RESULTS Significantly higher failure rates were found for ceramic brackets in the overall analysis, in the mandibular arch, and in the posterior region. Regression analysis revealed a significant influence of round nickel-titanium archwires on higher failure rates, whilst a significant influence of rectangular archwires was found on lower failure rates. CONCLUSIONS Ceramic brackets showed higher failure rates. Patients should be aware that orthodontic treatment with ceramic brackets may involve delays and inconvenience due to the higher failure rate compared to metal brackets.

Abstract
Successful orthodontic therapy, apart from a proper treatment plan, depends on optimal bracket-enamel adhesion. Among numerous factors affecting adhesion, the type of bracket and preparation of the tooth's surface are crucial. The aim of this study was to compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of metal and ceramic brackets to the enamel's surface using direct bonding. Forty extracted human premolars were divided into four groups according to the etching method (etch-and-rinse and self-etch) and bracket type. The SBS and adhesive remnant index (ARI) were determined. The ceramic brackets achieved the highest SBS values both in the self-etch (SE) and etch-and-rinse (ER) protocols. Higher SBS values for ceramic and metallic brackets were found in the ER protocol. In all tested groups, the achieved SBS value was satisfactory to withstand orthodontic and occlusal forces. There was no significant difference in the ARI score between study groups (p = 0.71). The fracture occurred between the bracket base and adhesive material in both types of brackets, which decreased the risk of enamel damage during debonding.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effect of enamel conditioning methods, that is, total-etch and rinse (TER), Er,Cr:YSGG (ECYL), and photodynamic therapy (PDT) on the shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic metallic brackets bonded using Zirconium oxide experimental adhesive (ZOEA). Methods: Sixty human incisor buccal surfaces were cleaned and allocated into three groups based on the method of enamel surface treatment, that is, TER using 37% phosphoric acid gel, methylene blue photosensitizer activated by PDT and ECYL (n = 20 each). Each group was further divided into two subgroups (n = 10) based on the type of adhesive, that is, ZOEA and experimental adhesive (EA). Metallic brackets were seated using composite resin. Samples were placed in a universal testing machine for SBS and failure mode using the ARI index. One-way analysis of variance and post hoc Tukey were used for multiple comparisons. ARI was presented in percentages in different investigated groups. Results: TER+ZOEA (17.16 ± 0.41 MPa) displayed the highest bond integrity. However, group PDT+EA (11.34 ± 0.25 MPa) demonstrated the lowest bond scores. The intergroup comparison revealed that the TER system displayed significantly higher SBS values than the PDT and ECYL groups (p < 0.05). The intragroup comparison revealed that enamel conditioned with TER and brackets bonded with ZOEA and EA displayed comparable bond integrity (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Enamel conditioned with TER bonded to a metallic bracket displayed better bond strength than PDT and ECYL. Zirconium oxide nanoparticles incorporated in adhesive have proved to be promising in improving the bond integrity of adhesive.

Abstract
AIM The present study was undertaken to evaluate the influence of gingival retraction agents (Expasyl and Viscostat) and different conditioning methods (Total-etch, Self-etch, and PDT) on bond integrity of composite to dentin. MATERIAL AND METHODS One hundred and eighty, third molars were collected cleaned and disinfected in thymol solution. The specimens were rooted vertically up to cementoenamel junction within polyvinyl cylinders (PVC). Based on gingival retraction materials samples were divided into three groups (n = 60). Group A: dentin applied with Expasyl; Group B: Viscostat was applied on dentin and Group C: Control. Dentin surface was treated with different surface conditioners. Etch and rinse, PDT MBP, and Two-step self-etch. A bonding agent was applied and composite buildup was done. Samples were placed in the universal testing machine for SBS. Bond failure was assessed using a stereomicroscope. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's post hoc test compared the means and standard deviations (SD) after SBS testing (p = 0.05). RESULTS The highest score of bond strength was exhibited by group C1 (21.14 ± 1.05 MPa-Etch & rinse + Tetric-N- Bond) whereas group C2 (12.15 ± 0.28 -PDT MBPS + Tetric-N-Bond, No treatment group) demonstrated the lowest SBS. Based on the application of haemostatic agent, bond values among subgroups A1 (18.75 ± 1.05 MPa - Expasyl + Etch & rinse + Tetric-N-bond) and B1 (17.84 ± 0.11 MPa -Viscostat + Etch & rinse + Tetric-N-Bond) was comparable (p>0.05). Based on the conditioning methods, bond scores among groups C1 (21.14 ± 1.05 MPa -Etch & rinse + Tetric-N- Bond) and C3 (19.05 ± 1.28 MPa -Clearfill SE) were comparable (p >0.05). CONCLUSION Viscostat and Expasyl result in compromised bond integrity of composite restoration to dentin in etch and rinse and self-etch group compared to no treatment group. However, the pre-application of Viscostat and Expasyl on dentin conditioned with PDT improved bond integrity of composite resin.

Abstract
Objective: The aim was to assess the influence of Er, Cr: YSGG laser (ECL) and fractional carbon dioxide laser (FCL) on the shear bond strength (SBS) and microleakage of bioactive restorative material to dentin. Methods: The study was performed in King Saud university in the month of June-July 2019. One hundred and twenty permanent teeth were vertically placed in acrylic resin. Based on the type of surface treatment regime (n=40), samples were divided into three groups. Group-I samples were surface conditioned with total etch and rinse (TE); Group-2 samples were surface treated with Er, Cr: YSGG laser (ECL) and Group-3 specimens were conditioned with fractional carbon dioxide laser (FCL). Surface treatment of dentin was followed by type of bulk fill resin (BFR) application. Tetric-N-Ceram was bonded to dentin conditioned with TE (n=20), FCL (n=20) and ECL (n=20). Similarly, bioactive material (BAM) was also bonded to conditioned surface (n=60). Samples (n=10) among each group were placed in a Universal testing machine. For microleakage testing 5 pairs of samples from each group (n=10) were placed in solution of 2% methylene blue for 24h Fracture analysis was performed using stereomicroscope at 40x magnification. Descriptive statistics i.e., means and standard for SBS and microleakage were compared using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s post hoc test at a significance level of (p < 0.05) Results: The highest SBS scores were displayed by TE-BFR (Bulk filled resin) (19.21 ± 0.925 Mpa) and the lowest shear bond scores were presented by FCL-BFR (11.06±1.611 Mpa). The lowest microleakage scores were exhibited by group ECL-BFR (24.11±13.01nm). Similarly, the highest microleakage score was displayed in group FCL-BAM (42.18±16.32 nm). Admixed failure was pertinent in groups conditioned by ECL. Moreover, groups conditioned with FCL adhesive type of failure was found in abundance. Conclusions: ECL has a potential to be used as an alternate to total etch and rinse for conditioning of dentin when bonded to bioactive materials.

Abstract
Aim To assess bond integrity and modes of failure of metallic brackets to lithium disilicate ceramics (LDC) conditioned with Er,Cr:YSGG laser (ECL). Material and methods Sixty LDC were arbitrarily allocated into six groups (n = 15) according to the type of ceramic surface conditioning treatment. Group 1 surface treated with silane (S) only, group 2 surface etched with hydrofluoric acid (HF)+ S, group 3 surface conditioned with HF+ ultrasonic bath (UB)+ S, group 4 sand blasting (SB) of glass ceramic surface with 50 µm Al2O3, group 5 surface conditioned with self-etch ceramic primer (SECP) and in group 6 surface treated with ECL + S. After conditioning, the specimens were positioned in a universal testing device for shear bond strength (SBS) testing. Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI) was used to determine sites of bond failure. Among experimental groups analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey multiple comparison test was used at a significance level of (p < 0.05). Results The highest SBS values were observed in group 3 HF+ UB + S (18.21 ± 1.241) and the lowest SBS values were displayed group 1 surface treated with S only (5.21 ± 0.23). Specimens surface conditioned in group 2 with HF+ S (17.85 ± 1.25), group 3 HF+ UB + S (18.21 ± 1.241) and group 6 ECL + S (17.09 ± 1.114) unveiled comparable SBS values (p > 0.05). Conclusion LDC conditioned with ECL at (4.5 W and 30 Hz) has a potential to be used in clinical settings alternate to HF acid.
