Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study evaluated the influence of hydrogen peroxide (HP) with or without titanium dioxide nanotubes (TiO2) associated with violet LED (VL) regarding: a) the temperature change in the pulp chamber and facial surface; b) the decomposition of HP; and c) the cytotoxicity of the gels on pulp cells. METHODS AND MATERIALS The experimental groups were: HP35 (35% HP/Whiteness HP, FGM); HP35+VL; HP35T (HP35+TiO2); HP35T+VL; HP7 (7.5% HP/White Class 7.5%, FGM); HP7+VL; HP7T (HP7+TiO2); and HP7T+VL. TiO2 was incorporated into the bleaching gels at 1%. Eighty bovine incisors were evaluated to determine temperature change in 8 experimental groups (n=10/group). A k-type thermocouple was used to evaluate the temperatures of the facial surface and in the pulp chamber, achieved by enabling endodontic access to the palatal surface, throughout the 30-minute session. HP decomposition (n=3) of gels was evaluated by using an automatic potentiometric titrator at the initial and 30-minute time points. Trans-enamel and trans-dentinal cell viability were assessed with a pulp chamber device as well as enamel and dentin discs (n=6), and the treatment extracts (culture medium + diffused components) were collected and applied to MDPC-23 odontoblast cells to evaluate cell viability according to the MTT test. RESULTS A temperature increase in the pulp chamber was observed in the presence of VL at 30 minutes (p<0.05) (Mann-Whitney test). Also at 30 minutes, HP35 showed greater decomposition in the presence of VL rather than in its absence (p<0.05) (mixed linear models and the Tukey-Kramer test). HP7 provided greater cell viability than the groups treated with HP35 (p<0.05) (generalized linear models test). Cell viability was significantly lower for HP7 in the presence of VL (p<0.05). CONCLUSION Pulpal temperature increased with VL (maximum of 1.9°C), but did not exceed the critical limit to cause pulp damage. Less concentrated HP resulted in higher cell viability, even when associated with VL.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The effectiveness of in-office bleaching protocols performed with violet LED light either combined with a bleaching agent containing 37% carbamide peroxide, or not, was determined by comparing teeth with different degrees of darkening. METHODOLOGY Eighty bovine incisors were separated into groups of "light" teeth (luminosity greater than or equal to B3) and "dark" teeth (less than or equal to A3.5) to receive the protocols: HP - 35% hydrogen peroxide (Whiteness HP), CP - 37% carbamide peroxide (Whiteness SuperEndo), LED - violet LED light (Bright Max Whitening), CPLED - CP associated with the LED. For color analysis the CIEL*a*b* e WID, ΔEab, ΔE00 e ΔWID parameters were used. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, Dunn, Friedman or Nemenyi tests (α = 5%). RESULTS HP and CP resulted in similar color change values (ΔEab, ΔE00 e ΔWID) for light and dark teeth (p > 0.05). Dark teeth showed better bleaching effectiveness (ΔEab, ΔE00 e ΔWID) than light teeth when CPLED was used (p < 0.05). LED showed color change that were below the limits of acceptability and perceptibility for ΔWID. CONCLUSION light teeth are effectively bleached with the use of HP or CP, whereas dark teeth respond better to treatment with the CPLED protocol. Violet LED used alone did not show a satisfactory result.

Abstract
AIM to evaluate, through a clinical trial, the effectiveness and sensitivity of tooth whitening techniques using violet light emitting diodes (LED), comparing with other whitening techniques. METHODOLOGY 75 patients were selected to undergo tooth whitening, randomly distributed into five different treatment groups: G1 (35% hydrogen peroxide), G2 (35% hydrogen peroxide + Green LED), G3 (35% hydrogen peroxide at 35% + Blue LED), G4 (35% hydrogen peroxide + Violet LED) and G5 (Violet LED). Sensitivity measurement was recorded using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) from 0 to 10; tooth color measurement was performed before (T0) and after 30 days of whitening treatment (T1) using Easyshade Advance 4.0 Vita-Wilcos® dental spectrophotometer. Statistical analysis was performed using the Fisher and Kruskal-Wallis exact test at significance level of p < 0.05. RESULTS the enamel whitening effect was observed in all groups, with significant changes in G1. With regard to sensitivity, no statistically significant differences were found between groups. CONCLUSION In G5, no participant reported post-whitening sensitivity, suggesting that treatment with violet LED showed the best sensitivity outcomes, changing the enamel color one more tone on the color scale.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dental color change and the temperature of the pulp chamber and of the buccal surface were evaluated during bleaching with 37% carbamide peroxide (CP) with continuous vs fractionated violet LED light protocols. METHODOLOGY Bovine incisors received in-office bleaching for 30 minutes using different light protocols (Bright Max Whitening, MMOptics). Teeth were separated into groups (n=10): HP) 35% hydrogen peroxide (Whiteness HP, FGM)/no light; CP) 37% carbamide peroxide (Whiteness SuperEndo, FGM)/no light; CP10) CP+10 min of continuous light; CP20) CP+20 min of continuous light; CP30) CP+30 min of continuous light; CPF) CP+20 cycles of 60 s light / 30 s no light (fractionated). Color evaluations were performed at different times. Evaluations of pulp and buccal surface temperatures were performed before and throughout the 30 minutes of bleaching. RESULTS Generalized linear models for repeated measures over time were applied to the data (α=5%). After the 1st session, CP20 and CP30 had significantly lower b* values than CP and CP10 (p=0.0071). For ΔEab and ΔE00, CPF, CP20 and CP30 showed the highest color change among the treatments after the third bleaching (p<0.05). For temperature evaluations, CP30 showed higher pulp and buccal surface temperatures than the other protocols (p<0.0001) after 20 min. CONCLUSION Fractionated or continuous application of violet LED for 20 or 30 min leads to greater effectiveness of color change. All protocols with the application of LED led to an increase in pulp and buccal surface temperatures during bleaching, although the fractionated application appeared to be safer than the use of continuous light.

Abstract
The cellular metabolic processes ensure the physiological integrity of the dentine-pulp complex. Odontoblasts and odontoblast-like cells are responsible for the defence mechanisms in the form of tertiary dentine formation. In turn, the main defence reaction of the pulp is the development of inflammation, during which the metabolic and signalling pathways of the cells are significantly altered. The selected dental procedures, such as orthodontic treatment, resin infiltration, resin restorations or dental bleaching, can impact the cellular metabolism in the dental pulp. Among systemic metabolic diseases, diabetes mellitus causes the most consequences for the cellular metabolism of the dentine-pulp complex. Similarly, ageing processes present a proven effect on the metabolic functioning of the odontoblasts and the pulp cells. In the literature, several potential metabolic mediators demonstrating anti-inflammatory properties on inflamed dental pulp are mentioned. Moreover, the pulp stem cells exhibit the regenerative potential essential for maintaining the function of the dentine-pulp complex.
