Abstract
This study evaluated the photoactivation of hydrogen peroxide gels at different concentrations using blue or violet LED in terms of whitening efficacy and tooth sensitivity. Forty patients were randomly divided into 4 groups: HP6V (violet LED and 6% hydrogen peroxide), HP6B (blue LED and 6% hydrogen peroxide), HP35V (violet LED and 35% hydrogen peroxide), and HP35B (blue LED and 35% hydrogen peroxide). The L*, a* and b* values were measured before, 1 week and 3 months after treatment, and the ΔE and ΔWID values were calculated. Tooth sensitivity was measured using a visual analogue scale (VAS) before, immediately after, and 24 h after bleaching. The ΔE, ΔWID and bleaching sensitivity values were subjected to the ANOVA test and Bonferroni post-test. HP35V and HP35B showed higher whitening efficacy than HP6VL, while HP6V did not show statistical differences compared to the other groups. Regarding bleaching-related sensitivity, the HP6V and HP6B groups presented the lowest values when compared to HP35V and HP35B. HP6V showed whitening efficacy comparable to HP35V and HP35B but with reduced tooth sensitivity. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: NCT06165458; registration date: 12/09/2023.

Abstract
Background In the current cosmetics industry, bleaching is often associated with lasers. However, such treatment also harbors risks. Tooth death is observed at pulpal temperature increases ≥5.6 °C. Therefore, it seems important to investigate the effects of using different lasers. The aim of this study was to determine pulpal temperature increases at different laser parameters during bleaching by modeling a realistic environment and to compare the temperature recording using a thermocouple and thermal camera. The authors assumed that there are laser settings for the lasers used at which the pulpal temperature increases are <5.6 °C and that the temperature recordings with thermocouples and thermal cameras differ only minimally. Methods Human teeth were used, which were extracted for dental reasons. During experiment, teeth were bleached conventionally and by laser activation at 940 nm, 445 nm, and 970 nm. The temperature in the pulp was recorded using thermocouples. In a second setup, longitudinally halved teeth were bleached, while the temperature in the pulp was recorded with a thermocouple and thermal camera. Descriptive statistics were used. The significance level is 0.05. Results In addition to conventional bleaching, temperature increases <5.6 °C were observed for bleaching at 940 nm 1.5 W, at 445 nm 0.3 W, and at 970 nm 0.5 W. For bleaching procedures using 940 nm 7 W, 940 nm 2 W, 445 nm 0.5 W, and 970 nm 1 W, the temperature increase was ≥5.6 °C. Significant differences (p < 0.05) were found in the maximum temperature increases (°C) between all groups. Temperature recordings using a thermocouple and thermal camera differed by about 2.3 °C. The working hypotheses were confirmed. Conclusion With laser bleaching, attention must be paid to the type of laser, its power, and the time in order to avoid excessive overheating of the dental pulp.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The photo-acceleration of bleaching gels by lights has been extensively researched. However, the induced temperature increase during this process needs to be further evaluated to prevent damage to the dental pulp. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the surface and intrapulpal temperature kinetics of different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (HP) gels photo-accelerated by blue or violet light and infrared laser. METHODS The whitening gels at concentrations of HP35, HP15, and HP6 % were irradiated with blue and violet LED/laser on the surface of a human canine tooth. The surface temperature variation (∆Ts) was evaluated using a pH meter, while the intrapulpal temperature variation (∆Ti) was assessed using a digital thermometer at intervals of 1, 15, and 30 min. Statistical analysis was conducted using a Two-way repeated measures ANOVA test, and Bonferroni post-test was applied at a significance level of 5 %. RESULTS All violet LED photo-accelerated groups showed a higher increase in ∆Ts compared to the blue LED/laser groups. However, there were no significant differences between the groups for ∆Ti. CONCLUSION Although the photo-acceleration of HP35 and HP15 % gels with violet LED/laser has a greater increase in surface temperature compared to HP6 % gel, the different light systems do not significantly increase the intrapulpal temperature.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The effectiveness of dental color change was assessed by incorporating titanium dioxide (TiO2) into 37% carbamide peroxide bleaching agent associated with hybrid light. METHODOLOGY Fifty bovine incisors were selected to receive the bleaching treatment, and separated into five groups (n = 10): 35% hydrogen peroxide (HP) (Whiteness HP, FGM/HP); 37% carbamide peroxide (CP) (Whiteness SuperEndo, FGM/CP); CP + hybrid light (HL) (CP HL); CP + 1% TiO2 (CP TiO2); CP TiO2 + hybrid light (CP TiO2 HL). The bleaching gels were applied to the dental surface for 30 min. Hybrid light (Whitening Plus, DMC/infrared laser diodes + blue LEDs +violet LEDs) was applied with 1 min of active light, alternating with 1 min of pause. A spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade® Advance, Vita) was used to determine the color of the dental elements at baseline and time points after the 1st, 2nd and 3rd bleaching sessions. Color change effectiveness was evaluated using Vita Classical, CIEL*a*b*, WID and ΔEab, ΔE00 and ΔWID parameters. RESULTS Generalized mixed linear models for repeated measures (α = 5%) showed significant decrease in Vita Classical scores and a* and b* values, as well as an increase in L* and ∆WID values for all the groups. Higher color change values for ΔEab were observed for CP HL and CP TiO2 HL, while those of ΔE00 and ΔWID were higher for CP TiO2 HL at the end of the bleaching treatment. CONCLUSION Hybrid light applied with TiO2 incorporated into CP potentiated the effectiveness of the color change in the tooth structure.

Abstract
This study evaluated the variation of surface and intra-pulpal temperature, during bleaching protocol, using LED/laser. The 35% (HP35), 15% (HP15) and 6% (HP6) gels were used associated with LED/laser applied every 1 min for 30 min in a human canine. The evaluation of surface temperature variation (∆Ts) was performed using a pHmeter and the intra-pulpal temperature variation (∆Ti) was performed using a digital thermometer, at times of 1-, 5-, 10- 15- and 30-min. Statistical analysis was performed using the two-way repeated measures ANOVA test and Bonferroni post-hoc test was used at a significance level of 5%. HP35 and HP15 showed greater temperature variation than HP6 up to 10 min of surface evaluation, showing no differences between them. In the intra-pulpal evaluation, no group showed differences throughout the procedure.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Few studies have investigated the effect of violet LED irradiation associated or not with bleaching agents on blood-stained teeth. This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the whitening efficacy and color stability of non-vital dental bleaching using 35% hydrogen peroxide (HP) photoactivated with violet LED (VL) compared to 35% HP alone and 35% HP photoactivated with blue LED (BL). METHODS Fifty bovine dental crowns were used to obtain specimens of 5 × 5 × 2 mm. After selection based on a previous colorimetric analysis, the specimens were blood-stained and randomly assigned into five groups (n = 10): control (no treatment); 35% HP, 35% HP/BL; 35% HP/VL; and VL. Three bleaching sessions were performed and the colorimetric analysis (∆Eab, ∆L, and ∆WID) was recorded after 7 days, 30 days, and 9 months of the last bleaching session. Two-way repeated measures ANOVA followed by Bonferroni post-hoc test was used at a significance level of 5%. RESULTS 35% HP, 35% HP/BL, and 35% HP/VL showed higher values of ∆Eab, ∆L, e ∆WID (P < 0.05), without intra- and intergroup differences (P > 0.05). C and VL were similar in all the evaluation times (P > 0.05), showing lower values of ∆Eab, ∆L, and ∆WID (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS 35% HP/VL can be a viable alternative for dental bleaching in endodontically-treated teeth, showing bleaching efficacy similar to 35% HP solely used, even after a 9-month follow-up. VL used alone was not effective to bleach blood-stained teeth.

Abstract
Aim: To determine if the artificial staining with black tea (BT) influences the enamel microhardness before in-office bleaching and if BT staining is necessary to evaluate the efficacy of bleaching with 35% hydrogen peroxide Methods: Enamel/dentin blocks were randomized into groups according to the staining protocol (n=5/group): (CO) control – maintained in artificial saliva solution (AS); (BT4) immersed in black tea solution for 4 h; (BT24) immersed in black tea solution for 24 h. After the staining protocols, all specimens were kept in AS for one week, followed by bleaching (three sessions of HP application for 40 min). Knoop surface microhardness (kgF/mm2) was determined at baseline (T0), after staining (T1), after 7 days of storage in AS (T2), and after bleaching (T3). The color (ΔE00) and coordinate changes (ΔL, Δa, Δb) were measured using a digital spectrophotometer at T0 and T3. Data were submitted to one-way (ΔE00, ΔL, Δa, Δb) or two-way ANOVA repeated measures (kgF/mm2) and Tukey’s test (a=5%). Results: The staining protocols (BT4 and BT24) promoted significantly lower microhardness (T1 and T2, p<0.05) than CO, whereas CO was the only group to maintain microhardness values over time. Bleaching promoted perceptible ΔE00 without a significant difference among the groups regardless of the staining protocol (p=0.122). CO and BT4 showed no differences in terms of ΔL and Δa (p>0.05), but BT4 displayed a higher Δb than CO. Conclusion: The artificial staining with BT negatively affected the enamel surface microhardness and was not essential to evaluate the efficacy of 35% hydrogen peroxide bleaching.
