Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the association between neonatal birthweight (NBW) discordance and preeclampsia (PE) in twin pregnancy. METHODS This was a single-center retrospective cohort study. Women with two live births in the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from January 2011 to June 2020 were eligible. They were classified into four groups based on the quartiles of NBW discordance in monochorionic (MC) and dichorionic (DC) twin pregnancy. The relationship between NBW discordance and the risk of PE was assessed by logistic regression, subgroup analyses was further analyzed. RESULTS A total of 1566 women were eligible for the final analysis, there were 445 MC cases and 1121 DC cases. No matter in monochorionic or dichorionic pregnancy, higher NBW discordance quartiles were associated with increased risks of PE. Compared with women in the lowest NBW discordance quartile, women in the highest NBW discordance quartile had approximately 3.6 and 6.0 times risk of PE in monochorionic and dichorionic pregnancy respectively. The association between quartiles of NBW discordance and the risk of PE were higher in dichorionic pregnancy than in monochorionic pregnancy. No matter in MC or DC pregnancy, no significant interaction effects were identified for maternal age, pregnancy body mass index, mode of conception and whether complicated with gestational diabetes mellitus. CONCLUSIONS The increased NBW discordance quartile was related to an increased risk of PE. Assessing estimated fetal weight discordance by using ultrasound in clinical practice to predict PE remained to be further researched.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Accurate prenatal recognition of discordant fetal growth in twins is critical for deciding suitable management strategies. We explored the predictive value of the level of maternal second-trimester placental growth factor (PLGF) as a novel indicator of discordant fetal growth. METHODS A total of 860 women pregnant with twins were enrolled, including 168 women with monochorionic twins (31 cases of discordant fetal growth and 137 without) and 692 with dichorionic twins (79 cases of discordant fetal growth and 613 without). Maternal second-trimester PLGF concentrations were measured via immunofluorescence. RESULTS Maternal second-trimester PLGF levels were significantly lower in women pregnant with twins who subsequently developed discordant fetal growth than in those who did not (monochorionic twin pregnancy: P < 0.001; dichorionic twin pregnancy: P < 0.001). A 3-4 fold difference in median PLGF concentrations was detected between the two groups with both monochorionic and dichorionic twin pregnancies. Maternal second-trimester PLGF levels were significantly correlated with birth weight differences (monochorionic twin pregnancy: r = - 0.331, P < 0.001; dichorionic twin pregnancy: r = - 0.234, P < 0.001). A receiver operating characteristic curve was used to evaluate the predictive efficiency. In monochorionic twin pregnancies, the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.751 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.649-0.852), and the cutoff value was 187.5 pg/mL with a sensitivity of 77.4% and specificity of 71.0%. In dichorionic twin pregnancies, the AUC was 0.716 (95% CI; 0.655-0.777), and the cutoff value was 252.5 pg/mL with a sensitivity of 65.1% and specificity of 69.6%. Based on the above cutoff values, univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to calculate the odds ratios (OR) for the PLGF levels. After adjustment for potential confounding factors, low PLGF concentrations still significantly increased the risk of discordant fetal growth (monochorionic twin pregnancy: adjusted OR: 7.039, 95% CI: 2.798-17.710, P < 0.001; dichorionic twin pregnancy: adjusted OR: 4.279, 95% CI: 2.572-7.120, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS A low maternal second-trimester PLGF level is considered a remarkable risk factor and potential predictor of discordant fetal growth. This finding provides a complementary screening strategy for the prediction of discordant fetal growth and offers a unique perspective for the subsequent research in this field.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Velamentous cord insertion (VCI) and marginal cord insertion (MCI) are well-known risk factors for adverse perinatal outcomes in singleton pregnancies. However, the potential links between VCI or MCI and perinatal outcomes in twin pregnancies have yet to be systematically evaluated. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between VCI or MCI and perinatal outcomes in twin pregnancies. METHODS This retrospective single-center cohort study included women with twin pregnancies who gave birth in a tertiary hospital in Southwest, China between January 2017 and December 2022. VCI and MCI were identified by abdominal ultrasound and confirmed after placental delivery. Logistic regression, multinomial logit regression and generalized estimation equation models were used to evaluate the association between VCI or MCI and perinatal outcomes. RESULTS A total of 3682 twin pregnancies were included, including 100 (2.7%) pregnancies with VCI and 149 (4.0%) pregnancies with MCI. Compared to pregnancies with normal cord insertion, both monochorionic and dichorionic pregnancies with VCI were associated with an increased risk of preterm delivery 32-34 weeks (aRRR 2.94, 95% CI 1.03-8.39; aRRR 2.55, 95% CI 1.19-5.46, respectively), while pregnancies with MCI were not associated with preterm delivery. VCI was associated with a higher incidence of placental previa (aOR 6.36, 95% CI 1.92-21.04) in monochorionic pregnancies and placental accreta (aOR 1.85, 95% CI 1.06-3.23) in dichorionic pregnancies. MCI was associated with an increased risk of preeclampsia (aOR 3.07, 95% CI 1.49-6.32), intertwin birthweight discordance ≥ 20% (aOR 2.40, 95% CI 1.08-5.60) and selective fetal growth restriction (aOR 2.46, 95% CI 1.08-5.60) in monochorionic pregnancies and small-for-gestational age neonates (aOR 1.97, 95% CI 1.24-3.14) in dichorionic pregnancies. CONCLUSIONS VCI was associated with an increased risk of preterm delivery in twin pregnancies irrespective of chorionicity, whereas MCI was associated with an increased preeclampsia risk, significant intertwin birthweight discordance in monochorionic pregnancies and small-for-gestational age neonates in dichorionic pregnancies.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Perforation of the intertwin membrane can occur as a complication of fetoscopic laser surgery for twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). Data on the occurrence and the risk of subsequent cord entanglement are limited. The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence, risk factors and outcome of intertwin membrane perforation, and cord entanglement after laser surgery for TTTS. METHODS In this multicenter retrospective study, we included all TTTS pregnancies treated with laser surgery in two fetal therapy centers, Shanghai (China) and Leiden (the Netherlands) between 2002 and 2020. We evaluated the occurrence of intertwin membrane perforation and cord entanglement after laser, based on routine fortnightly ultrasound examination and investigated the risk factors and the association with adverse short- and long-term outcomes. RESULTS Perforation of the intertwin membrane occurred in 118 (16%) of the 761 TTTS pregnancies treated with laser surgery and was followed by cord entanglement in 21% (25/118). Perforation of the intertwin membrane was associated with higher laser power settings, 45.8 Watt versus 42.2 Watt (p = 0.029) and a second fetal surgery procedure 17% versus 6% (p < 0.001). The group with intertwin membrane perforation had a higher rate of caesarean section (77% vs. 31%, p < 0.001) and a lower gestational age at birth (30.7 vs. 33.3 weeks of gestation, p < 0.001) compared to the group with an intact intertwin membrane. Severe cerebral injury occurred more often in the group with intertwin membrane perforation, 9% (17/185) versus 5% (42/930), respectively (p = 0.019). Neurodevelopmental outcome at 2 years of age was similar between the groups with and without perforation of the intertwin membrane and between the subgroups with and without cord entanglement. CONCLUSION Perforation of the intertwin membrane after laser occurred in 16% of TTTS cases treated with laser and led to cord entanglement in at least 1 in 5 cases. Intertwin membrane perforation was associated with a lower gestational age at birth and a higher rate of severe cerebral injury in surviving neonates.

Abstract
To investigate the relationship between abnormal umbilical cord insertion and birthweight discordance in monochorionic diamnionic (MCDA) twins. A total of 137 pairs of MCDAs were retrospectively analyzed who delivered and survived in Hangzhou Women's Hospital from January 2016 to December 2021. According to different insertion methods, they were divided into normal cord insertion group (n = 57), marginal cord insertion (MCI) group (n = 34) and velamentous cord insertion (VCI) group (n = 46). The correlation was analyzed between different insertion methods of umbilical cord and the discordant birth weight of MCDAs. The gestational age of delivery with velamentous cord insertion was significantly earlier than those with normal and marginal insertion (P < .05). There were significant differences in birthweight between large fetus (F1) and small fetus (F2) with different umbilical insertion methods (P < .05). The birthweight of F1 and F2 in normal insertion group was significantly higher than those in MCI and VCI group (P < .05). Logistic regression analysis showed that VCI was significantly associated with birth weight in F1/F2, birthweight discordance ≥ 20%, and birthweight discordance ≥ 25%, however MCI and VCI were not an independent factor for discordance in birthweight of MCDAs (P > .05). Umbilical cord insertion method can lead to inconsistency in birthweight of MCDA twins, however they were not an independent factor for discordance in birthweight.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine the association of umbilical venous diameter and flow in monochorionic diamniotic twin pregnancy with placental sharing and fetal demise. METHODS This was a prospective longitudinal cohort study of a consecutive series of monochorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies that underwent ultrasound assessments at 12, 16, 20 and 28 weeks' gestation. Fetal biometry (crown-rump length at 12 weeks or estimated fetal weight (EFW) thereafter) and cord insertion sites were recorded at each visit, as well as the diameter of the umbilical vein (UV) in both the intra-abdominal part and a free loop of the umbilical cord. Time-averaged maximum velocity in the intra-abdominal part of the UV was measured to calculate UV-flow. Univariate and multivariate linear regression analyses were performed to assess the relationship between intertwin ratios of these variables and placental sharing at 12, 16, 20 and 28 weeks' gestation. Placental sharing was calculated by dividing the larger by the smaller placental share, as measured on placental injection studies after birth. Additionally, the Mann-Whitney U-test and receiver-operating-characteristics-curve analysis were used to explore the relationship between the occurrence of fetal demise and intertwin differences in fetal biometry, cord insertion sites, UV diameters and flow at 12, 16, 20 and 28 weeks. RESULTS Of 200 consecutive monochorionic twin pregnancies enrolled, injection studies were performed in 165 (82.5%) placentas. On univariate analysis, intertwin differences in fetal biometry, cord insertions and UV variables were associated significantly with placental sharing at 12, 16, 20 and 28 weeks' gestation. On multivariate analysis, intertwin differences in fetal biometry, cord insertions and all three UV variables remained associated significantly with placental sharing at 12 and 16 weeks. However, at 20 and 28 weeks, only the intertwin EFW ratio was associated consistently with placental sharing. Fetal demise of one or both twins complicated 26 (13.0%) pregnancies. Differences in EFW and cord insertion sites were not associated significantly with fetal demise, while at 16 weeks, differences in intra-abdominal UV diameter and flow were associated with an increased risk of subsequent fetal demise. CONCLUSIONS At 12 and 16 weeks' gestation, intertwin differences in UV diameter and flow reflect placental sharing more accurately than do differences in fetal growth and cord insertion sites. At 16 weeks, discordance in intra-abdominal UV diameter and flow is also associated with an increased risk of fetal demise. © 2022 International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Background In recent years, the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage has increased globally. Multiple pregnancies and cesarean sections are well-known risk factors for postpartum hemorrhage. No studies have evaluated the associations between fetal growth anomalies and postpartum hemorrhage in women with twin pregnancies undergoing cesarean section. This study aimed to identify the relationship between fetal growth anomalies and postpartum hemorrhage in women with twin pregnancies undergoing cesarean section. Methods This retrospective single-center study included 3,180 women with twin pregnancies at a tertiary hospital between August 2013 and July 2020. Singleton reference charts were used to assess fetal growth restriction at birth. Discordant growth was defined as an intertwin birth weight difference of ≥20%. Logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the association between fetal growth anomalies and postpartum hemorrhage. Additionally, sensitivity analysis of abnormal placenta and stratification by twin chorionicity were conducted. Results The overall incidence of postpartum hemorrhage was 4.3%. Twin growth discordance, especially with fetal growth restriction, was associated with an increased risk of postpartum hemorrhage (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 1.62, 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.05-2.51, P = 0.031; AOR = 1.71; 95% CI, 1.08-2.70, P = 0.022; AOR = 1.98, 95% CI, 1.21-3.25, P = 0.006, respectively). After stratification, this relationship persisted in dichorionic twins (OR = 1.71, 95% CI, 1.04-2.82, P = 0.036; OR = 1.90, 95% CI, 1.13-3.21, P = 0.016; OR = 2.48, 95% CI, 1.41-4.38, P = 0.002, respectively). However, no significant association was observed in monochorionic twin pregnancies. Conclusion Growth discordance, especially complicated by fetal growth restriction, was associated with an increased risk of postpartum hemorrhage in women with twin pregnancies undergoing cesarean section, and was more evident in patients with dichorionic twins.

Abstract
Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of velamentous cord insertion (VCI) and the actual association between pathologically confirmed VCI and perinatal outcomes in twins based on the chorionicity. Methods: All twin pregnancies that received prenatal care at a specialty clinic for multiple pregnancies, from less than 12 weeks of gestation until delivery in a single institution between 2015 and 2018 were included in this retrospective cohort study. Results: A total of 941 twins were included in the study. The prevalence of VCI in dichorionic (DC) twins and monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twins was 5.8% and 7.8%, respectively (p = 0.251). In all study population, the prevalence of vasa previa and placenta accreta spectrum was higher in VCI group than that of non-VCI group (p = 0.008 and 0.022). In MCDA twins with VCI, birth weight, 1 and 5-min Apgar score were lower than DC twins with VCI (p = 0.010, 0.002 and 0.000). There was no significant association between VCI and selective fetal growth restriction (p = 0.486), twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (p = 0.400), and birth-weight discordance (>20% and >25%) (p = 0.378 and 0.161) in MCDA twins. Conclusion: There was no difference in the incidence of VCI in twins based on the chorionicity. Moreover, VCI was not a risk factor for adverse perinatal outcomes excepting vasa previa and placenta accreta spectrum, which had a high incidence in twins with VCI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite extensive investigations over the last decade, preeclampsia remains an unpredictable pregnancy complication causing perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly in twin pregnancies. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine the relationship between growth discordance in twin pregnancies and the risk for preeclampsia based on chorionicity. STUDY DESIGN This was a retrospective single-center study that included 2122 women with twin pregnancies who were admitted to a tertiary hospital between January 2013 and June 2016. Growth discordance was defined as twin birthweight difference ≥20%. Logistic regression models were used to analyze the association between growth discordance and risk for gestational hypertension-preeclampsia in all subjects. Stratified sampling by twin chorionicity (dichorionic and monochorionic) was also conducted. Further analysis was performed to estimate the association between the degree of growth discordance and gestational hypertension-preeclampsia risk in monochorionic and dichorionic twin pregnancies. RESULTS The prevalence of growth discordance was 17.6%. In all subjects, growth discordance was associated with increased risk for gestational hypertension-preeclampsia. After stratification by twin chorionicity, growth discordance was associated with an increased risk for gestational hypertension preeclampsia (adjusted odds ratio [AOR], 1.84; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.26-2.67) and preeclampsia (AOR, 1.82; 95% CI, 1.21-2.73), including mild preeclampsia (AOR, 1.86; 95% CI, 1.02-3.37), severe preeclampsia (AOR, 1.78; 95% CI, 1.06-2.97; P<.05), and early-onset preeclampsia (AOR, 2.98; 95% CI, 1.40-6.32), in the dichorionic twin pregnancy group; however, no significant association was found in the monochorionic twin pregnancy group. A 10% increment of growth discordance in the dichorionic twin pregnancy group was associated with an elevated risk for gestational hypertension preeclampsia (AOR, 1.20; 95% CI, 1.02-1.41) and preeclampsia (AOR, 1.24; 95% CI, 1.04-1.48), including severe preeclampsia (AOR, 1.28; 95% CI, 1.04-1.59) and early-onset preeclampsia (AOR, 1.47; 95% CI, 1.08-2.00), but no significant association was found in the monochorionic twin pregnancy group. CONCLUSION Growth discordance is associated with an increased risk for preeclampsia in dichorionic but not in monochorionic twin pregnancy. In addition, the prevalence of preeclampsia increases significantly with increasing degree of growth discordance, reflecting a dose-response relationship in dichorionic twin pregnancy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This is a retrospective study to determine the predictive value and comparison of first trimester (1) crown-rump length discordance and (2) abnormal cord insertion as screening tests for poor outcome in monochorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies. RESULTS Retrospective data were collected over last 10 years from a single center (2009-2018). A total of 261 patients were a part of this study. CRL discordance or abnormal cord insertions are not accurate predictors of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, which corresponds to previously published data on the same subject. Both CRL discordance and abnormal cord insertions are strongly associated with selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR) as defined according to conventional criteria or the newer consensus criteria. A combination of these two markers substantially improves the screening rates, with a positive likelihood ratio of 10.33 for sFGR. However, this combination fails to distinguish the type 1 sFGR cases from the type 2/3, which typically have poorer outcomes. CONCLUSION CRL discordance and abnormal cord insertions are strongly associated with the development sFGR in monochorionic pregnancies. A combination of these two markers shows promising potential as a screening test to identify pregnancies at a high risk for development of sFGR. Earlier diagnosis can help plan timely fetal intervention and improve the overall outcomes of these pregnancies. These markers need to be validated in larger studies before being adopted for screening of monochorionic pregnancies.

Abstract
Doppler US provides a unique window to the fetoplacental circulation, allowing assessment of fetal well-being. Doppler US of the umbilical artery is an integral component of managing the fetus with growth restriction; and Doppler US of the middle cerebral artery, as a noninvasive means of detecting fetal anemia, has revolutionized the management of pregnancies complicated by alloimmunization. Serial use of amniocentesis, with its attendant risks, has been replaced by serial Doppler US examinations. Invasive procedures are now reserved for the treatment of anemia with intrauterine transfusion. Technique is critical to obtain the best waveforms for ease of shape assessment, velocity measurement, and calculation of various ratios. In this article, the safety of Doppler US is reviewed, the fetal circulation is described, and the role of Doppler US is demonstrated in first-trimester screening and in the evaluation of growth restriction, anemia, and other causes of fetal compromise in the second and third trimesters. Sampling technique is explained, and normal and abnormal waveforms are illustrated for the ductus venosus, umbilical artery, umbilical vein, middle cerebral artery, and uterine artery. Some examples of clinical cases are provided to illustrate how the results are used in clinical practice. Clinical examples of velamentous insertion and vasa previa are also provided to aid the practicing radiologist with recognition of these entities. In particular, vasa previa is considered a critical finding; it alters pregnancy management, requiring hospital admission, administration of steroid therapy, and planned early cesarean delivery. ©RSNA, 2019.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between abnormal cord insertion and the development of twin-specific complications, including birth-weight discordance, selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR) and twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). METHODS This was a single center retrospective cohort study of twin pregnancies. Abnormal cord insertion was defined as either marginal (umbilical cord attachment site less than 2 cm to the nearest margin of the placental disc) or velamentous (cord attached to the membrane before reaching the placental disc with clear evidence of vessels traversing the membranes to connect with the placental disc), as described in placental pathology reports. Twins with major structural or chromosomal abnormalities and monochorionic monoamniotic twins were not included in the study. Information on the pregnancies, ultrasound findings, prenatal investigations and interventions was obtained from the electronic ultrasound database, while data on placental histopathological findings, pregnancy outcome, mode of delivery, birth weight, gestational age at delivery and admission to the neonatal intensive care unit were obtained from maternity records. Categorical variables were compared using the chi-square or Fisher's exact test, while continuous variables were compared using the Student's t-test, ANOVA for multiple comparisons and the Kruskal-Wallis test. RESULTS Of the 497 twin pregnancies included in the analysis, 351 (70.6%) were dichorionic and 146 (29.4%) were monochorionic. The incidence of birth-weight discordance of 25% or more was significantly higher in pregnancies with velamentous and those with marginal cord insertions compared to those with normal cord insertion (24.0%, 15.3% vs 7.6%, P < 0.001 and P = 0.020, respectively). In pregnancies with birth-weight discordance of 25% or more, the smaller twins had significantly higher prevalence of velamentous (13.8%) and marginal (34.2%) cord insertions compared with the larger twins (1.8% and 18.5%, respectively, P < 0.001). The smaller twins of the monochorionic diamniotic pregnancies showed an even higher prevalence of velamentous (29.5%) and marginal (40.9%) cord insertions compared with the larger twins (2.3% and 31.5%, respectively, P < 0.001). Compared with the normal cord insertion group, only velamentous insertion was associated significantly with the risk of sFGR (odds ratio (OR), 9.24 (95% CI, 2.05-58.84), P < 0.001) and birth-weight discordance of 20% or more (OR, 4.34 (95% CI, 1.36-14.61), P = 0.007) and 25% or more (OR, 6.81 (95% CI, 1.67-34.12), P = 0.003) in monochorionic twin pregnancies. There was no significant association between velamentous cord insertion and TTTS (P = 0.591), or between marginal cord insertion and the development of sFGR (P = 0.233), birth-weight discordance of 25% or more (P = 0.114) or TTTS (P = 0.487). Subgroup analysis of dichorionic twins showed that abnormal cord insertion was not associated with the risk of birth-weight discordance (P = 0.999), sFGR (P = 0.308), composite neonatal adverse outcome (P = 0.637) or intrauterine death (P = 0.349). CONCLUSION Monochorionic twins with velamentous cord insertion are at increased risk of birth-weight discordance and sFGR. Sonographic delineation of placental cord insertion could be of value in the antenatal stratification of twin pregnancies. Abstract
OBJECTIVES It is not currently well known to what extent the sites of cord insertion influence the risk of complicated outcome in monochorionic twin pregnancy. The objectives of this study were to examine whether the sites of cord insertion, as determined on prenatal ultrasound examination, affect the risks of adverse outcome, twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and discordant growth, and whether discordance in insertion sites or velamentous insertion in one or both twins best predicts risk. METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study of monochorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies followed from the first trimester. The cohort was divided into three groups of increasing discordance in cord insertion sites: concordant (normal-normal; marginal-marginal; velamentous-velamentous), intermediate (normal-marginal; marginal-velamentous) and discordant (normal-velamentous). Adverse outcome was defined as fetal or neonatal loss or birth prior to 32 weeks. The associations of adverse outcome, TTTS and discordant growth were assessed using logistic regression analysis with the following predictors: the three groups of insertion sites and velamentous insertion in one or both twins. RESULTS Included in the analysis were 518 pregnancies. On univariate analysis, both discordant and velamentous insertions in one twin increased the risk of adverse outcome, TTTS and discordant growth. Intermediate insertion only increased the risk of discordant growth. Velamentous insertion in both twins increased the risk of adverse outcome and TTTS, but not of discordant growth. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed velamentous insertion in one or both twins to independently predict adverse outcome and TTTS. For discordant growth, both intermediate/discordant and velamentous cord insertion in one twin were independent predictors. CONCLUSIONS Velamentous cord insertion in one or both twins increases the risk of adverse outcome and TTTS, irrespective of discordance in the insertion sites, whereas the risk of discordant growth is determined by both discordance in insertion sites and velamentous cord insertion in one twin. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Abnormal umbilical cord coiling is associated with adverse perinatal outcomes; however, the etiology of the umbilical coiling pattern is poorly understood. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective cohort of all twin deliveries >20 weeks in 2014. Pregnancies were dichotomized by chorionicity and the umbilical coiling index (UCI) and placental cord insertion location were compared. In cases with one or both cords hypercoiled, the direction and pattern of coiling were compared by chorionicity. A similar analysis was performed stratified by zygosity. RESULTS Three hundred sisty two twin pairs were included; 26 (7.2%) monochorionic and 174 (87.0%) definitively dizygotic. Concordance in the UCI and coiling category were similar between dichorionic and monochorionic as well as dizygous and monozygous gestations, (73.2% vs 80.8%, p = 0.399 and 71.4% vs 80.8%, p = 0.399, respectively). Analyses of the coiling direction and pattern also demonstrated no difference by chorionicity or zygosity. CONCLUSION These data do not support a genetic basis for umbilical cord coiling.
