Abstract
A unique high-valent copper nitrite species, LCuNO2, was accessed via the reversible one-electron oxidation of [M][LCuNO2] (M = NBu4+ or PPN+). The complex LCuNO2 reacts with 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenol via a typical proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) to yield LCuTHF and the 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenoxyl radical. The reaction between LCuNO2 and 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol was more complicated. It yielded two products: the coupled bisphenol product expected from a H-atom abstraction and 2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-nitrophenol, the product of an unusual anaerobic nitration. Various mechanisms for the latter transformation were considered.

Abstract
A novel Ni2+ complex with the N4-donor tripodal ligand bis[(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)methyl][2-(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl]amine (L), namely, aqua{bis[(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl-κN3)methyl][2-(pyridin-2-yl-κN)ethyl]amine-κN}chloridonickel(II) perchlorate, [NiCl(C17H22N6)(H2O)]ClO4 or [NiCl(H2O)(L)Cl]ClO4 (1), was synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic and spectrometric methods. The crystal structure of 1 reveals an interesting and unusual cocrystallization of isomeric complexes, which are crystallographically disordered with partial occupancy of the labile cis aqua and chloride ligands. The Ni2+ centre exhibits a distorted octahedral environment, with similar bond lengths for the two Ni-N(imidazole) bonds. The bond length increases for Ni-N(pyridine) and Ni-N(amine), which is in agreement with literature examples. The bond lengths of the disordered labile sites are also in the expected range and the Ni-Cl and Ni-O bond lengths are comparable with similar compounds. The electronic, redox and solution stability behaviour of 1 were also evaluated, and the data obtained suggest the maintenance of structural integrity, with no sign of demetalation or decomposition under the studied conditions.

Abstract
In the crystal structure of the title complex, [CuCl(C17H24N8)]ClO4, the copper(II) metal exhibits an N4Cl penta-coordinate environment in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. Coordination to the metal centre occurs through the three 1-methyl-imidazole N atoms from the pendant groups, one amine N atom from the imidazolidine moiety and one chlorido anion. Inter-molecular inter-actions take place at two of the 1-methyl--imidazole rings in the form of parallel-displaced π-π stacking inter-actions forming chains parallel to the a axis. Three O atoms of the perchlorate anion are rotationally disordered between two orientations with occupancies of 0.5.

Abstract
The mechanism of the copper(I)-mediated reductive disproportionation reaction of NO to form N2O was investigated for five different 3,5-substituted tris(pyrazolyl)borate copper complexes (CuTpR1,R2) by means of DFT calculations. A thorough search of the potential surface was performed, using the B3LYP functional with the def2-SVP basis set for optimization purposes and def2-TZVP single-point calculations for constructing the potential energy surface for two of these complexes. The results can be condensed into six competing reaction mechanisms, two of which were more closely investigated using full def2-TZVP optimized potential and free energies. The results consistently predict the same mechanism to have the lowest overall barrier. For all five different complexes, this is found to be in good agreement with the experimental reaction barriers. The key intermediate for the transition from the N-bound reactant to the O-bound product contains a stable (NO)3 unit with one N-Cu and one O-Cu bond, which was not included in the mechanistic considerations reported in the literature. Further analysis of the charge distribution and the spin density demonstrates the formation of a Cu(II)-(N2O2-) intermediate and the electronic influence of the different ligands.

Abstract
Three new copper(II) complexes, [CuL(1)(NO(2))](n) (1), [CuL(2)(NO(2))] (2), and [CuL(3)(NO(2))] (3), with three similar tridentate Schiff base ligands [HL(1) = 6-amino-3-methyl-1-phenyl-4-azahept-2-en-1-one, HL(2) = 6-amino-3-methyl-1-phenyl-4-azahex-2-en-1-one, and HL(3) = 6-diethylamino-3-methyl-1-phenyl-4-azahex-2-en-1-one] have been synthesized and characterized structurally and magnetically. In all three complexes, the tridentate Schiff base ligand and one oxygen atom of the nitrite ion constitute the equatorial plane around Cu(II), whereas the second oxygen atom of the nitrite ligand coordinates to one of the axial positions. In 1, this axially coordinated oxygen atom of the nitrite ligand also coordinates weakly to the other axial position of a Cu(II) ion of another unit to form a one-dimensional chain with the mu-nitrito-1kappa(2)O,O':2kappaO bridging mode. Complexes 2 and 3 are discrete monomers that are joined together by intermolecular H bonds and C-H....pi interactions in 2 and by only C-H....pi interactions in 3. A weak antiferromagnetism (J = -1.96(2) cm(-1)) is observed in complex 1 due to its asymmetric nitrite bridging. Complexes 2 and 3 show very weak antiferromagnetic interactions (J = -0.089 and -0.096 cm(-1), respectively) attributed to the presence of intermolecular H-bonding and C-H....pi interactions. The corresponding Cu(I) species produced by the electrochemical reduction of complexes 1 and 2 disproportionate to Cu(0) and Cu(2+,) whereas the reduced Cu(I) species of complex 3 seems to be stable presumably due to a higher tetrahedral distortion of the equatorial plane in 3 compared to that in 1 and 2.
