Abstract
Understanding magnetic anisotropy and specifically how to tailor it is crucial in the search for high-temperature single-ion magnets. Herein, we investigate the magnetic anisotropy in a six-coordinated cobalt(II) compound that has a complex geometry and distinct triaxial magnetic anisotropy from the perspective of the electronic structure, using electronic spectra, ab initio calculations, and an experimental charge density, of which the latter two provides insight into the d-orbital splitting. The analysis showed that the d-orbital splitting satisfactorily predicted the complex triaxial magnetic anisotropy exhibited by the compound. Furthermore, a novel method to directly compare the ab initio results and the d-orbital populations obtained from the experimental charge density was developed, while a topological analysis of the density provided insights into the metal-ligand bonding. This work thus further establishes the validity of using d-orbitals for predicting magnetic anisotropy in transition metal compounds while also pointing out the need for a more frequent usage of the term triaxial anisotropy in the field of single-molecule magnetism.

Abstract
The reactions of 1-tert butyl-5-thiotetrazole (HtttBu) with Na[BH4] provides Na[H2B(tttBu)2] (Na[1]) or Na[HB(tttBu)3] (Na[2]) in refluxing THF or xylene, respectively. Treating [RuCl(Ph)(CO)(PPh3)2] with Na[2] affords the triply-buttressed ruthenaboratrane [Ru(CO)(PPh3){κ4-B,S,S',S''-B(tttBu)3}] (5) whilst Na[1] with [IrCl(CO)(PPh3)2] or [RuCl(Ph)(CO)(PPh3)2] provides rare examples of doubly-buttressed metallaboratranes [IrH(CO)(PPh3){κ3-B,S,S'-BH(tttBu)2}] (7) and [Ru(CO)(PPh3)2{κ3-B,S,S'-BH(tttBu)2}] (12), the latter via the isolable thiotetrazoylborate complex [Ru(Ph)(CO)(PPh3){κ3-H,S,S'-H2B(tttBu)2}] (11).

Abstract
The problem of preparing energetic, exclusively mono-azolyl substituted hydridoborate anions in high yield and purity from [BH4 ]- and nitroazoles by hydrogen elimination was overcome by reacting the corresponding nitroazolate anions with the BH3 adducts BH3 ⋅S(CH3 )2 or BH3 ⋅THF. The highly-energetic, nitro-, trinitromethyl-, and fluorodinitromethyl- substituted triazolyl- and tetrazolyl-trihydridoborate anions were synthesized in this manner and characterized by vibrational and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and their crystal structures. The use of excess BH3 resulted in some cases in the addition of a second BH3 molecule bound more-weakly to one of the nitrogen atoms of the azole ring. All monoazolyl-trihydridoborates were thermally less stable than the parent azolate anions. A decomposition product of tetraphenylphosphonium (5-(trinitromethyl)-5H-2λ4 -tetrazol-2-yl)trihydridoborate, the tetraphenyl-phosphonium (dinitro-1H-tetrazol-5-yl)methanide monohydrate, was also structurally characterized, providing some insight into the decomposition pathways of the nitromethyl-substituted azolyltrihydridoborate anions.

Abstract
Models of the active site in [NiFe]hydrogenase enzymes have proven challenging to prepare. We isolated a paramagnetic dinuclear nickel-ruthenium complex with a bridging hydrido ligand from the heterolytic cleavage of H2 by a dinuclear NiRu aqua complex in water under ambient conditions (20 degrees C and 1 atmosphere pressure). The structure of the hexacoordinate Ni(mu-H)Ru complex was unequivocally determined by neutron diffraction analysis, and it comes closest to an effective analog for the core structure of the proposed active form of the enzyme.
