Abstract
Di(2-pyridylmethyl)amine carboxylates with short alkyl linkers afford coordination polymers whereas the longer homologues favour macrocyclic topologies.

Abstract
A "click" active-metal-template strategy has been exploited to develop mono- and bi-2,2′,6′,2″-terpyridine functionalised [2]rotaxanes. When reacted with Fe(ii) ions these rotaxanes formed metallo-bis-([2]rotaxanes), macrocycles and oligomers.

Abstract
The title compound, C(32)H(24)N(6)O(2), has an inversion centre located at the mid-point of the central C-C bond of the diether bridging unit. The terminal pyridine rings are canted relative to the central pyridine ring, with dihedral angles of 12.98 (6) and 26.80 (6)°. The maximum deviation from the eight-atom mean plane, defined by the two bridging O and C atoms and the central pyridine ring, is 0.0383 (10)° for the N atom.

Abstract
The title compound, C(34)H(28)N(6)O(2), has an inversion centre located at the mid-point of the central C-C bond of the diether bridging unit. The central pyridine rings of the terpyridyl units and the diether chain are co-planar: the maximum deviation from the 18-atom mean plane defined by the bridging unit and the central pyridyl ring is for the pyridyl N atom which sits 0.055 (1) Å above the plane. The dihedral angles between the terminal pyridine rings with this plane are 10.3 (1) and 37.6 (1)°, repectively. In the crystal, weak C-H⋯N inter-actions link the mol-ecules into infinite chains parallel to the a axis.

Abstract
We report reactions of cobalt(II) acetate with a series of ditopic bis(tpy) ligands (tpy = 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine) containing flexible polyethyleneoxy spacers (tpy-4'-O{(CH(2))(2)O}(n)-4'-tpy, n = 2, 3, 4 or 6 ligands 1-4, respectively) which result in the formation of complicated mixtures of species, presumed to be both open chain and cyclic species. Well resolved paramagnetically shifted (1)H NMR spectra are a powerful tool for the analysis of these solution systems. Upon equilibration, [n + n] metallomacrocycles are isolated as the dominant (thermodynamic) species in some cases, and the single crystal X-ray structures of [Co(2)(3)(2)][PF(6)](4)·6MeCN and [Co(2)(4)(2)][PF(6)](5)·2MeCN (a mixed cobalt(ii)/cobalt(iii) species) are presented. Oxidation of the equilibrated cobalt(II) mixtures to kinetically inert cobalt(III) species provides additional evidence for the formation of metallomacrocycles as the thermodynamic products. Single crystal structural data for [Co(3)(2)(3)][PF(6)](9)·2MeCN·3.5H(2)O, [Co(2)(3)(2)][PF(6)](6)·10MeCN and [Co(2)(4)(2)][PF(6)](6)·6MeCN confirm the assembly of [2 + 2] and [3 + 3] metallomacrocycles. PGSE NMR spectroscopy has been used to determine the hydrodynamic radii of the solution species.

Abstract
Bis-[methylsalicylidine-4'benzoic acid]-ethylene (LH2) complexed with cis-Ru(bpy)2Cl(2).2H2O provides a complex of composition [Ru(bpy)2L].2NH4PF6 (1), which has been characterized spectroscopically. Its binding behaviour towards Mg2+ and Ca2+ ions is monitored using 1H NMR titration, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) and luminescence microscopy. The luminescent ruthenium complex binds Ca2+ in a more selective manner as compared to Mg2+.

Abstract
The reaction of 4'-(2-propyn-1-oxy)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (HC[triple bond]CCH2Oterpy) with trans-[PtI2(PR3)2] (R = Et, (n)Bu, Ph) results in the regioselective formation of the metalloditopic ligands trans-[Pt(C[triple bond]CCH2Oterpy)2(PR3)2], crystallographic data for which are presented. Each ditopic ligand reacts with FeCl(2).4H(2)O to give heterometallomacrocycles, the smallest of which is a [2 + 2] macrocycle, confirmed structurally for R = Et. The NMR spectroscopic data confirm the formation of symmetrical species, i.e. macrocyclic and not polymeric species. The distribution of products has been investigated using pulsed-field gradient spin-echo (PGSE) diffusion NMR spectroscopy, and indicates that the kinetic products from the reactions of 1, 2 or 3(L) with iron(II) are [Fe(n)L(n)](2n+) with n = 2, 3 or 4. For L = 1 and 2, these mixtures of products convert in solution to the thermodynamically favoured [Fe(2)L(2)](4+).
