Abstract
Imidazolidine-2-thione substructure represents a pharmaceutically attractive scaffold, being included in different antimicrobial, anticancer and pesticide agents. To further evaluate the pharmaceutical potential of this chemical moiety, imidazolidine-2-thione was reacted with atypical Vilsmeier adducts, obtained by the condensation between dimethylacetamide and various acyl chlorides endowed with different electronic and steric properties. The formation of mono-acylated or di-acylated thiourea derivatives emerged to be affected by the nature of the considered acyl chloride reagent. Computational semi-empirical simulations were carried out to rationalize the relevant factor influencing the outcome of the reaction. As acylthioureas are pharmacologically relevant compounds, the chemical versatility of mono-acylated derivatives were evaluated by reacting benzoyl imidazolidin-2-thione with acyl chlorides. A small library of asymmetric di-acylthioureas was prepared and the obtained derivatives did not show any cytotoxicity on SKOV-3 and MCF-7 cancer cell lines. Additionally, in silico studies predicted good pharmacokinetics properties and promising drug-like characteristics for mono- and di-acylated thioureas. These considerations further support the value of the prepared compounds as interesting non-cytotoxic chemical scaffold useful in the medicinal chemistry field.

Abstract
Xanthates are widely used in mining industry as collectors for its high affinity towards metal sulfides and precious metal ores. The possibility of using alginate for xanthation has not been explored yet despite the feasibility by the presence of hydroxyl groups alongside the polymeric chains. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate the alginate as a matrix for xanthation and its application on heavy metal ions removal. In order to obtain green materials, important pararmeter were explored such as the effect of reaction time (4-12 h), type of base (NaOH/KOH) and amount of carbon disulfide (2-10%v/v). Xanthated alginates were analyzed by NMR techniques and evidence of β-elimination was detected at 5.45 ppm. Furthermore, the presence of S element was confirmed by EDS mapping technique, while XRD showed a semi-crystalline structure. On the other hand, the chemical shifts of δ(C=S) and ν(C=S) bands were found around 863-805 cm-1 and 662-602 cm-1 respectively. Also, a shoulder at 182 ppm is appreciated by NMR in solid state attributed to CS group. According to FESEM analyses, morphology of xanthated alginates is affected by interaction with heavy metal ions. Finally, suitable materials for the removal of heavy metal ions were established at optimum pH values.

Abstract
The reactions of 1-methyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-benzimidazole-2-selone, H(sebenzimMe), towards the zinc and cadmium halides, MX2 (M = Zn, Cd; X = Cl, Br, I), afford the adducts, [H(sebenzimMe)]2MX2, which have been structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction. The halide ligands of each of these complexes participate in hydrogen bonding interactions with the imidazole N-H moieties, although the nature of the interactions depends on the halide. Specifically, the chloride and bromide derivatives, [H(sebenzimMe)]2ZnX2 and [H(sebenzimMe)]2CdX2 (X = Cl, Br), exhibit two intramolecular N-H•••X interactions, whereas the iodide derivatives, [H(sebenzimMe)]2ZnI2 and [H(sebenzimMe)]2CdI2, exhibit only one intramolecular N-H•••I interaction. Comparison of the M-Se and M-Cl bond lengths of the chloride series, [H(sebenzimMe)]2MCl2 (M = Zn, Cd, Hg), indicates that while the average M-Cl bond lengths progressively increase as the metal becomes heavier, the variation in M-Se bond length exhibits a non-monotonic trend, with the Cd-Se bond being the longest. These different trends provide an interesting subtlety concerned with use of covalent radii in predicting bond length differences. In addition to tetrahedral [H(sebenzimMe)]2CdCl2, [H(sebenzimMe)]3,CdCl2•[H(sebenzim)Me]4CdCl2, which features both five-coordinate and six-coordinate coordinate centers, has also been structurally characterized. Finally, the reaction between CdI2 and H(sebenzimMe) at elevated temperatures affords the 1-methylbenzimidazole complex, [H(sebenzimMe)]-[H(benzimMe)]CdI2, a transformation that is associated with cleavage of the C-Se bond.

Abstract
The basic objective of this investigation is to explore potential metallo-organic antimicrobial agents based on silver-heterocyclic-2-thiones. In this respect, a series of silver(I) halide complexes with imidazolidine-2-thiones (L-NR, R=H, Me, Et, Prn, Bun, Ph), namely, mononuclear [AgX(L-NR)(PPh3)2] (X, R: Cl, Bu, 1; Br, Ph, 7); [AgX(L-NR)3] (Br, Bu, 5; Br, Prn, 8) and halogen bridged dinuclear [Ag2(μ-X)2(L-NR)2(PPh3)2] (Cl, Bun, 2; Cl, Ph, 3; Cl, Prn, 4; Br, Ph, 6) have been synthesized and characterized using modern techniques. The thio-ligands are terminally S-bonded in all the complexes. The in vitro antimicrobial potential and biosafety evaluation of the above complexes as well as that of previously reported analogous silver complexes has been studied against Gram positive bacteria, namely, Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC 740) and Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Gram negative bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniae (MTCC 109), Salmonella typhimurium (MTCC 98) and a yeast Candida albicans (MTCC 227). Most of the complexes tested have shown significant antimicrobial activity with low values of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). Significantly, the activity against MRSA is an important outcome of this investigation. Among complexes tested for their cytotoxicity using MTT [3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide] assay, some complexes showed low cellular toxicity with high percent cell viability. A dinuclear complex [Ag2(μ-Cl)2(L-NPh)2(PPh3)2] 3 with 93.3% cell viability emerges the most important candidate for further investigations.

Abstract
Praziquantel has been the drug most widely used therapy against different forms of schistosomiasis around the world. However, this treatment has shown ineffective in humans and in experimental models of Schistosoma mansoni. New therapeutic alternatives have been tested, including the imidazolidine derivative LPSF/PT-09, which has shown high therapeutic potential in vitro. In this work, we tested the schistosomal activity of this derivative in doses of 250mg/kg and 200mg/kg in mice experimentally infected with a high parasite load of S. mansoni. Parasitological evaluations related to the number of S. mansoni worms and their oviposition were performed during the acute phase of the disease and have demonstrated moderate effectiveness of 30-54,4%. However, LPSF/PT-09 did not influence oviposition of the parasites or the embryonic development of the eggs. The results obtained in this model showed that the imidazolidine derivative LPSF/PT-09 presented significant antischistosomal activity in vivo, posing as a potential candidate for this class of drugs. However, a better understanding of the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the imidazolidine derivative LPSF/PT-09 is needed.

The geometry around the Cd(II) atom is distorted tetra-hedral, with bond angles in the range 101.55 (7)-117.91 (8)°. The CH2 groups of one Diaz ligand are disordered over two sets of sites with an occupancy ratio of 0.711 (12):0.289 (12). The mol-ecular structure is stabilized by intra-molecular N-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, generating a butterfly syn conformation. Inter-molecular N-H⋯Cl and N-H⋯S inter-actions lead to the formation of a three-dimensional network structure. The structure has been determined from a crystal twinned by nonmerohedry, by a 180° rotation around the reciprocal c axis. The twin ratio refined to 0.8866 (6):0.1134 (6).

Abstract
Recent advances in oncology are focused on developing new complexes of gold(III) with various ligands that show augmented anti-proliferative potential and reduced toxicity as compared to cis-platin. In this study, new Au(III) complexes of the type [(thione)2Au(diamine)]Cl3 are reported, where thione=1,3-imidazolidine-2-thione (Imt), 1,3-Diazinane-2-thione (Diaz) and diamine=1,2-diaminoethane (en), 1,3-diaminopropane (pn) or 1,4-diaminobutane (bn). The solid state IR as well as (13)C and (15)N NMR data indicate that Au(III) center is bonded via sulfur of thiocarbonyl SC site of the thiones and also chelated by the diamines from the trans side of coordinated thiones. Spectroscopic data are evaluated by comparisons with calculated data from the built and optimized structure by GAUSSIAN 09 at the RB3LYP level with LanL2DZ bases set. These new Au(III) complexes based on mixed thione and diamine ligands are very similar to the square planar structure of tetracoordinate [Au(en)2]Cl3complex. In this study, cytotoxicity data for these gold(III) complexes against C6 glioma cell lines are also reported, and the results indicate some complexes have cytotoxicity comparable to cis-platin.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of cadmium and mercury complexes of selenocyanate of the type [(L)M(SeCN)2] are described, where L is L-Histidine (His) or L-Glycine (Gly) and M is Cd2+ or Hg2+. These complexes are obtained by the reaction of 1 equivalent of respective amino acids with metal diselenocyanate precursor in a mixture of solvents (methanol : water = 1 : 1). These synthesized compounds are characterized by analytical and various spectroscopic techniques such as elemental analysis (EA), IR, H,1 and C13 NMR in solution and in the solid state for C13 and N15. The in vitro antibacterial activities of these complexes have been investigated with standard type cultures of Escherichia coli (MTCC 443), Klebsiella pneumoniae (MTCC 109), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC 1688), Salmonella typhi (MTCC 733), and Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC 737).

Abstract
Cadmium(II)cyanide complexes of various thiones (imidazolidine-2-thione, diazinane-2-thione and their derivatives) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and solid as well as solution NMR spectroscopy. It appears from the IR data that all complexes are non-ionic [(>C=S)(2)Cd(CN)(2)]. An upfield shift in the (13)C NMR and downfield shifts in the (1)H NMR are consistent with the sulfur coordination to cadmium(II). The solid (113)Cd NMR data show the presence of different coordination numbers in some complexes.
