Abstract
In order to discover new therapeutically active agents a series of novel copper(II) complexes with 3,4-dihydro-2(1H)-quinoxalinones were synthesized. All complexes were characterized by IR and EPR spectroscopic techniques and examined for their cytotoxic effect on human cancer cell lines HeLa, LS174, A549 and normal fibroblasts (MRC-5). For further examination of the cytotoxic mechanisms of novel complexes, three of them were chosen for analysing their effects on the distribution of HeLa cells in the cell cycle phases. The results of the flow cytometry analysis suggest that tested complexes lead to time-dependent accumulation of the cells in S and G2/M phases. The strongest accumulation effect showed complex 2d after 48 h of incubation. Competitive experiments with ethidium bromide (EB) indicated that tested compound 2d have affinity to displace EB from the EB-DNA complex through intercalation. Also, the binding parameters values for 2d-BSA complex showed that a reversible 2d-BSA complex is formed and ligand 2d can be stored and carried by BSA.

Abstract
Six Cu(i) complexes, [Cu(2,3-f)(bdppmapy)]BF4 (1), [Cu(2,3-f)(bdppmapy)]ClO4 (2), [Cu(2,3-f)(bdppmapy)]CF3SO3 (3), [Cu(imidazo[4,5-f])(bdppmapy)]BF4 (4), [Cu(imidazo[4,5-f])(bdppmapy)]ClO4 (5), and [Cu(imidazo[4,5-f])(bdppmapy)]CF3SO3·MeOH (6·MeOH) (bdppmapy = N,N-bis[(diphenylphosphino)methyl]-2-pyridinamine, 2,3-f = pyrazine[2,3-f][1,10]-phenanthroline, and imidazo[4,5-f] = 1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]-phenanthroline), have been synthesized to explore the effects of counteranions on their crystal structures, photophysical properties, and terahertz (THz) spectra. Time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) shows that the luminescence performance of these complexes is attributed to the metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) in combination with ligand-to-ligand charge transfer (LLCT). In complexes 1-3, the characteristic peak at 1.4 THz is mainly related to the C-Hπ interaction formed by the H atom on the 4#/5# position of 2,3-f and the benzene ring from the bdppmapy on the adjacent asymmetric unit. The common C-Hπ interaction enhances the rigidity of the structure and has non-negligible influence on the photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs): the stronger the C-Hπ interaction is, the higher the quantum yield (QY) is. In complexes 4-6, similar absorption peaks (1.10-1.30 THz) are mainly related to the C-Hπ interactions, and strong absorption peaks (1.50-1.90 THz) are affected by the typical hydrogen bonds N-HF/O and O-HO. These results show that some weak interactions can be characterized by THz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). So, the THz spectroscopy method would make it possible to tune some of the weak interactions in complex structures to regulate the luminescence of materials.

Copper bis-Dipyridoquinoxaline Is a Potent DNA Intercalator that Induces Superoxide-Mediated Cleavage via the Minor Groove. Molecules 2019; 24:molecules24234301. Abstract
Herein, we report the synthesis, characterisation, X-ray crystallography, and oxidative DNA binding interactions of the copper artificial metallo-nuclease [Cu(DPQ)2(NO3)](NO3), where DPQ = dipyrido[3,2-f:2',3'-h]quinoxaline. The cation [Cu(DPQ)2]2+ (Cu-DPQ), is a high-affinity binder of duplex DNA and presents an intercalative profile in topoisomerase unwinding and viscosity experiments. Artificial metallo-nuclease activity occurs in the absence of exogenous reductant but is greatly enhanced by the presence of the reductant Na-L-ascorbate. Mechanistically, oxidative DNA damage occurs in the minor groove, is mediated aerobically by the Cu(I) complex and is dependent on both superoxide and hydroxyl radical generation. To corroborate cleavage at the minor groove, DNA oxidation of a cytosine-guanine (5'-CCGG-3')-rich oligomer was examined in tandem with a 5-methylcytosine (5'-C5mCGG-3') derivative where 5mC served to sterically block the major groove and direct damage to the minor groove. Overall, both the DNA binding affinity and cleavage mechanism of Cu-DPQ depart from Sigman's reagent [Cu(1,10-phenanthroline)2]2+; however, both complexes are potent oxidants of the minor groove.

Abstract
The tetrafluoroborate salt of bis{8-(diphenylphosphino)quinoline}copper(I), [Cu(Ph(2)Pqn)(2)]BF(4), afforded orange prismatic (2O) or yellow columnar (2Y) crystals, dependent on the solvent and concentration of the recrystallization solution used. X-ray analysis revealed that crystals of 2O and 2Y had the same composition and exhibited different crystal systems: 2O was triclinic, with space group P ̅1 and Z = 2, and 2Y was monoclinic with space group P2(1)/c and Z = 4. In these crystals, the tetrahedral copper(I) complex exhibited a strong "rocking distortion" toward a trigonal pyramidal coordination geometry (by a slide translation of one of the unsymmetrical bidentate chelating ligands along the tetrahedral edge). In addition, both the 2O and 2Y complexes showed a "flattening distortion", meaning that the dihedral angle between the two chelate planes were off-perpendicular and oriented toward opposite directions, which resulted in a pair of distortion isomers: syn clinal (sc: 2O) and anti clinal (ac: 2Y). (31)P CP-MAS NMR spectroscopy indicated that 2O and 2Y could be distinguished. Both isomers exhibited inequivalent P atoms, but a larger difference in chemical shift was observed in 2Y. TD-DFT calculations reproduced the difference in spectra between the orange- and yellow-colored complexes, which originated from metal-to-ligand charge-transfer transitions.
