Abstract
Two organometallic compounds known as (E)-1-ferrocenyl-(3-fluorophenyl)prop-2-en-1-one (Fc1) and (E)-1-ferrocenyl-(3-fluoro-4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one (Fc2) are designed and synthesized for application in dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) based on a donor-π-acceptor (D-π-A) architecture. By strategically introducing a methoxy group into the acceptor side of the compound, Fc2 which has adopted a D-π-A-AD structure are compared with the basic D-π-A structure of Fc1. Both compounds were characterized by utilizing the IR, NMR and UV-Vis methods. Target compounds were further investigated by X-ray analysis and studied computationally using Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Time-Dependent DFT (TD-DFT) approaches to explore their potential performances in DSSCs. An additional methoxy group has been proven in enhancing intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) by improving the planarity of Fc2 backbone. This good electronic communication leads to higher HOMO energy level, larger dipole moment and better short-circuit current density (Jsc) values. Eventually, the presence of methoxy group in Fc2 has improved the conversion efficiency as in comparison to Fc1 under the same conditions.

Abstract
Abstract
Ferrocene and its derivatives constitute versatile and interesting scaffolds for the global chemical enterprise due to its multiple applications that range from biomedical to materials science. Ferrocenyl derivatives are the leading compounds in our research for the syntheses and characterization as well as their potential biological applications. Among them, our recent focus has been in ferrocenyl chalcones as a framework for further derivatization. The proposed modifications consist on the incorporation of heterocyclic moieties into the ferrocenyl chalcone core. This can be afforded either by introducing a heterocyclic aromatic moiety as a substituent or functionalizing the α-β unsaturated system. Another modification explored is the formation of ammonium or pyridinium salts to increase water solubility. Studied ferrocenyl chalcones exhibit remarkable stability, physical, and electrochemical properties. These factors have led the approaches for them to be precursors of biologically active compounds (cancer, bacteria, malaria, and neurobiological diseases). Moreover, other potential applications include molecular materials, redox-sensors, and polymers. Our goal in this mini review is to highlight the chemistry of ferrocene derivatives with particular prominence to those ferrocenyl chalcones studied in our laboratory and their applications. Moreover, we are providing a background on ferrocene, chalcones, and ferrocenyl chalcones, emphasizing the methodologies with preeminent yields.

Abstract
AIM Tuberculosis is responsible for 9.6 million infections and 1.5 million deaths in 2015. The development of multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant strains has impeded the development of effective antitubercular therapy. Results/methodology: The present manuscript describes the synthesis of a series of 4-aminoquinoline-ferrocenylchalcone conjugates via Cu-promoted Huisgen's azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction and evaluation of their antitubercular activities against mc26230 strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The conjugate 11j proved to be the most potent of the synthesized conjugates with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC99) value of 30 μM and proved to be noncytotoxic against HeLa cells. CONCLUSION The synthesized conjugates can act as starting point for the development of new antitubercular agents. Synthesis and antitubercular evaluation of 1H-1,2,3-triazole-tethered 4-aminoquinoline-ferrocenylchalcone conjugates. [Formula: see text].

Abstract
A series of ferrocenyl-functionalized β-diketonato manganese(III) complexes, [Mn(FcCOCHCOR)3] with R = CF3, CH3, Ph (phenyl) and Fc (ferrocenyl) was subjected to a systematic XPS study of the Mn 2p3/2 and Fe 2p3/2 core-level photoelectron lines and their satellite structures. A charge-transfer process from the β-diketonato ligand to the Mn(III) metal center is responsible for the prominent shake-up satellite peaks of the Mn 2p photoelectron lines and the shake-down satellite peaks of the Fe 2p photoelectron lines. Multiplet splitting simulations of the photoelectron lines of the Mn(III) center of [Mn(FcCOCHCOR)3] resemble the calculated Mn 2p3/2 envelope of Mn3+ ions well, indicating the Mn(III) centers are in the high spin state. XPS spectra of complexes with unsymmetrical β-diketonato ligands (i.e., R not Fc) were described with two sets of multiplet splitting peaks representing fac and the more stable mer isomers respectively. Stronger electron-donating ligands stabilize fac more than mer isomers. The sum of group electronegativities, ΣχR, of the β-diketonato pendant side groups influences the binding energies of the multiplet splitting and charge transfer peaks in both Mn and Fe 2p3/2 photoelectron lines, the ratio of satellite to main peak intensities, and the degree of covalence of the Mn–O bond.

Abstract
To compute ionization potential and electron affinity (HOMO & LUMO levels by tradition), diffuse functions are redundant, while range-separated hybrid DFT is not always better than B3LYP. Solvent modelling is essential and can be cheap with CPCM.

Abstract
[3]Ferrocenophane-containing chalcone derivatives with benzene ring (3a–3d) or naphthalene ring (3e–3f) were synthesized and characterized. The potentials for [3]ferrocenophane-containing chalcones cathodically shifted ~70–80 mV compared with those of ferrocene-containing chalcones, indicating easier oxidation by loss of an electron for the former. The thermal behaviours of the prepared compounds were studied by differential scanning calorimetry and polarizing optical microscopy. Compound 3f with terminal alkyl chain of 14 carbon atoms displayed mesophases, whereas other compounds were non-mesomorphic and showed either crystal polymorphic phase transitions or simple melting and freezing process in the heating and cooling cycles.
