Azide containing bipyridine complexes of cobalt(III)

Chelated O2BOH2- or Chelated O2CO2-: An Isoelectronic Conundrum

The species originally reported as [Co(bipy)2O2BOH]·[B5O6(OH)4]·H3BO3·H3O·H2O, a Co(II) complex containing a chelated O2BOH2- ligand, is shown to be [Co(bipy)2O2CO]·[B5O6(OH)4]·H3BO3·2H2O, a Co(III) complex containing a chelated O2CO2- ligand. This was confirmed by 1H and 13C NMR, MS, IR, and an X-ray crystal structure.

DNA interaction studies of a cobalt(III) complex containing β-amino alcohol ligand by spectroscopic and molecular docking methods

In the present research, the feasibility of a Cobalt(III) complex containing β-amino alcohol ligands for affinity with the target calf thymus DNA is demonstrated. In the title complex, [Co(C11H15N2O2)2]Cl, the Co(III) atom is six-coordinated with four N atoms and two O atoms from (2-[(E)-({2-[(2-Hydroxyethyl) amino]ethyl}imino)methyl]phenol) ligand (L). To investigate the molecular interaction between the synthesized complex and DNA, some multi-spectroscopic approaches associated with molecular docking were employed in the physiological buffer (pH 7.4). The results indicated that the Co(III) complex proved to be a minor groove binder with a preference for the A-T region, which was substantiated by displacement studies with Hoechst33258 and Methylene blue (MB) as minor groove binder and intercalator. In addition, the results of the molecular docking study revealed that the Co(III) complex approached the gap between the DNA minor grooves near the spot where the Hoechst was. Furthermore, the results of the cytotoxicity and apoptosis tests for the MCF-7 cell line were also indicative of the positive effects of the complex on controlling the growth and viability of breast cancer.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Crystal structure of bis-(azido-κN)bis[2,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3,4-thia-diazole-κ(2) N (2),N (3)]cobalt(II)

In the mononuclear title complex, [Co(N3)2(C12H8N4S)2], the cobalt(II) atom is located on an inversion centre and displays an axially weakly compressed octa-hedral coordination geometry. The equatorial positions are occupied by the N atoms of two 2,5-bis-(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3,4-thia-diazole ligands, whereas the axial positions are occupied by N atoms of the azide anions. The thia-diazole and pyridine rings linked to the metal are almost coplanar, with a maximum deviation from the mean plane of 0.0273 (16) Å. The cohesion of the crystal is ensured by weak C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds and by π-π inter-actions between pyridine rings [inter-centroid distance = 3.6356 (11) Å], forming a layered arrangement parallel to (001). The structure of the title compound is isotypic with that of the analogous nickel(II) complex [Laachir et al. (2013 ▶). Acta Cryst. E69, m351-m352].
