Abstract
The distinctive features of gold self-relay catalysts were alternatively utilized in the intriguing cascade condensation of 2-aminobenzaldehydes with alcohols and amines. Using NaAuCl4·2H2O as a catalyst, a range of 13-alkyloxy-7,11b-dihydro-6H,13H-6,12-[1,2]benzenoquinazolino[3,4-a]quinazoline derivatives was produced in good to high yields through A3B condensation of various 2-aminobenzaldehydes with alcohols. By carefully choosing the reaction conditions, gold catalysis also proved effective for A2B condensation with primary aryl- and benzylamines, facilitating the synthesis of challenging McGeachin bisaminals, including a chiral nonracemic derivative of 2-(S)-methylbenzylamine. The mild conditions of this gold-catalyzed approach may lead to new advancements in the field.

Abstract
Three novel gold(III) complexes (1–3) of general composition [Au(Bipydc)(S2CNR2)]Cl2 (Bipydc = 2,2′-bipyridine-3,3′-dicarboxylic acid and R = methyl for dimethyldithiocarbamate (DMDTC), ethyl for diethyldithiocarbamate (DEDTC), and benzyl for dibenzyldithiocarbamate (DBDTC)) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR and NMR spectroscopic techniques. The spectral results confirmed the presence of both the Bipydc and dithiocarbamate ligands in the complexes. The in vitro cytotoxic studies demonstrated that compounds 1–3 were highly cytotoxic to A549, HeLa, MDA-231, and MCF-7 cancer cells with activities much higher (about 25-fold) than cisplatin. In order to know the possible mode of cell death complex 2, [Au(Bipydc)(DEDTC)]Cl2 was further tested for induction of apoptosis towards the MCF-7 cells. The results indicated that complex 2 induces cell death through apoptosis.

Abstract
Since the beginning of the 2000's, homogeneous gold catalysis has emerged as a powerful tool to promote the cyclization of unsaturated substrates with excellent regioselectivity allowing the synthesis of elaborated organic scaffolds. An important goal to achieve in gold catalysis is the possibility to induce enantioselective transformations by the assistance of chiral complexes. Unfortunately, the linear geometry of coordination for gold usually encountered in complexes at the +1 oxidation states renders this goal very challenging. In consequence, the interest toward the synthesis of chiral gold(III) complexes is steadily growing. Indeed, the square planar geometry of the gold(III) cation appears more suitable to promote chiral induction. Beside catalysis, gold(III) complexes have also shown promising potential in the field of pharmacology. Herein, syntheses and applications of well-defined gold(III) complexes reported over the last fifteen years are summarized.

Abstract
Background::
The discovery of cisplatin and the subsequent research revealed the importance
of dinitrogen-containing moiety for the anticancer action of metal complexes. Moreover, certain
diamine ligands alone display cytotoxicity that contributes to the overall activity of corresponding
complexes.
Objective::
To summarize the current knowledge on the anticancer efficacy, selectivity, and the mechanisms
of action of metal complexes with various types of diamine ligands.
Method::
The contribution of aliphatic acyclic, aliphatic cyclic, and aromatic diamine ligands to the
anticancer activity and selectivity/toxicity of metal complexes with different metal ions were analyzed
by comparison with organic ligand alone and/or conventional platinum-based chemotherapeutics.
Results::
The aliphatic acyclic diamine ligands are present mostly in complexes with platinum. Aliphatic
cyclic diamines are part of Pt(II), Ru(II) and Au(III) complexes, while aromatic diamine ligands
are found in Pt(II), Ru(II), Pd(II) and Ir(III) complexes. The type and oxidation state of metal ions
greatly influences the cytotoxicity of metal complexes with aliphatic acyclic diamine ligands. Lipophilicity
of organic ligands, dependent on alkyl-side chain length and structure, determines their cellular
uptake, with edda and eddp/eddip ligands being most useful in this regard. Aliphatic cyclic diamine
ligands improved the activity/toxicity ratio of oxaliplatin-type complexes. The complexes with aromatic
diamine ligands remain unexplored regarding their anticancer mechanism. The investigated complexes
mainly caused apoptotic or necrotic cell death.
Conclusion::
Metal complexes with diamine ligands are promising candidates for efficient and more
selective alternatives to conventional platinum-based chemotherapeutics. Further research is required to
reveal the chemico-physical properties and molecular mechanisms underlying their biological activity.

Abstract
A novel 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazole-based ligand, 2-(4-(pyridin-2-yl)-1 H-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)propane-1,3-diamine (ptpd), which possesses pyridyl and diamino secondary and tertiary coordinating groups was synthesized in excellent yield. The reactivity of 2-(1-phenyl-1 H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)pyridine (ptp), di- tert-butyl (2-azidopropane-1,3-diyl)dicarbamate (Boc2-ptpd), and ptpd·3HCl was investigated with Au(III) and Pt(II) precursors. Analysis including X-ray crystal structures of [Au(III)Cl3(ptp)] (1), [Au(III)Cl2(ptpd)][Au(I)Cl2][OH]{[NaAuCl4·2H2O]} n (3), and [Pt(II)Cl2(ptpdH2)][PtCl4] (4) revealed that ptpd (i) serves as a monodentate ligand for Au(III) coordinating to the metal center via the pyridine nitrogen only, (ii) preferentially coordinates Au(III) via the bidentate diamino group over the monodentate pyridine group, (iii) can coordinate Pt(II) in a bidentate fashion via the pyridyl nitrogen and the triazole N-3, and (iv) can bridge two Pt(II) centers through bidentate chelation at the diamino group and bidentate chelation via the pyridyl nitrogen and the triazole N-3. ptpd represents a versatile ligand template for the development of mixed metal complexes.

Abstract
The gold(III) complexes of the type (1,2-diaminocyclohexane)(1,3-diaminopropane)gold(III) chloride, [(DACH)Au(pn)]Cl3, [where DACH = cis-, trans-1,2- and S,S-1,2-diaminocyclohexane and pn = 1,3-diaminopropane] have been synthesized and characterized using various spectroscopic and analytical techniques including elemental analysis, UV-Vis and FTIR spectroscopy; solution as well as solid-state NMR measurements. The solid-state (13)C NMR shows that 1,2-diaminocyclohexane (1,2-DACH) and 1,3-diaminopropane (pn) are strongly bound to the gold(III) center via N donor atoms. The stability of the mixed diamine ligand gold(III) was checked by UV-Vis spectroscopy and NMR measurements. The molecular structure of compound 1 (containing cis-1,2-DACH) was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The structure of 1 consists of [(cis-DACH)Au(pn)](3+) complex ion and chloride counter ions. Each gold atom in the complex ion adopts a distorted square-planar geometry. The structural details and relative stabilities of the four possible isomers of the complexes were also estimated at the B3LYP/LANL2DZ level of theoretical calculations. The computational study demonstrates that trans- conformations are slightly more stable than the cis- conformations. The antiproliferative effects and cytotoxic properties of the mixed ligand gold(III) complexes were evaluated in vitro on human gastric SGC7901 and prostate PC3 cancer cells using MTT assay. The antiproliferative study of the gold(III) complexes on PC3 and SGC7901 cells indicate that complex 3 (containing 1S,2S-(+)-1,2-(DACH)) is the most effective antiproliferative agent. The IC50 data reveal that the in vitro cytotoxicity of complex 3 against SGC7901 cancer cells manifested similar and very pronounced cytotoxic effects with respect to cisplatin. Moreover, the electrochemical behavior, and the interaction of complex 3 with two well-known model proteins, namely, hen egg white lysozyme and bovine serum albumin is also reported.

Abstract
A number of gold(III) compounds has been designed with the objective of overcoming the disadvantages associated with the platinum-based drugs for cancer treatment. Compounds of a remarkable structural manifold show significant antiproliferative effects in vitro against a number of cancer cells, including cisplatin resistant ones. The target of most of them is, unlike that of cisplatin, not the DNA. Although the mechanisms of action displayed by the gold compounds in biological media are still under investigation, many studies show evidence that the cellular targets are mitochondria-based. Recent advances in gold(III) medicinal chemistry also recommend such compounds for other pharmacological applications such as the treatment of viral or parasitic diseases. The radioactive isotopes 198Au and 199Au present potential in radiotherapy.

Abstract
The gold(III) complexes of the type [(DACH)Au(en)]Cl3, 1,2-Diaminocyclohexane ethylenediamine gold(III) chloride [where 1,2-DACH = cis-, trans-1,2- and S,S-1,2diaminocyclohexane and en = ethylenediamine] have been synthesized and characterized using various analytical and spectroscopic techniques including elemental analysis, UV-Vis and FTIR spectra; and solution as well as solid-state NMR measurements. The solid-state (13)C NMR shows that 1,2-diaminocyclohexane (1,2-DACH) and ethylenediamine (en) are strongly bound to the gold(III) center via N donor atoms. The stability of the mixed diamine ligand gold(III) was determined by (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra. Their electrochemical behavior was studied by cyclic voltammetry. The structural details and relative stabilities of the four possible isomers of the complexes were also reported at the B3LYP/LANL2DZ level of theory. The coordination sphere of these complexes around gold(III) center adopts distorted square planar geometry. The computational study also demonstrates that trans- conformations is slightly more stable than the cis-conformations. The antiproliferative effects and cytotoxic properties of the mixed diamine ligand gold(III) complexes were evaluated in vitro on human gastric SGC7901 and prostate PC3 cancer cells using MTT assay. The antiproliferative study of the gold(III) complexes on PC3 and SGC7901 cells indicate that complex 1 is the most effective antiproliferative agent among mixed ligand based gold(III) complexes 1-3. The IC50 data reveal that the in vitro cytotoxicity of complexes 1 and 3 against SGC7901 cancer cells are fairly better than that of cisplatin.

Abstract
A series of gold(III) complexes involving differently substituted derivatives of a plant hormone N6-benzyladenine (HL1-5) is reported. The complexes have the general formula [Au(HL1-5)Cl3]∙nH2O (n=0 for 1, 3-5; and n=1 for 2), where N6-(2-fluorobenzyl)adenine (HL1), N6-(2-chlorobenzyl)adenine (HL2), N6-(3-chlorobenzyl)adenine (HL3), N6-(4-chlorobenzyl)adenine (HL4) and N6-(4-methylbenzyl)adenine (HL5) represent the N9-coordinated ligands. The results of thorough characterization (elemental and thermal analyses, FT-IR, Raman and NMR spectroscopies, ESI+ mass spectrometry, conductivity measurements, DFT calculations) showed that the presented complexes 1-5 involve a central gold(III) atom coordinated in a square-planar geometry by the N9 atom of the purine moiety of HL1-5 and by three chlorido ligands. The complexes (1-5) were studied in vitro for cytotoxicity and anti-inflammatory activity on LPS-activated macrophages (THP-1 cell line), and in vivo for anti-inflammatory effects (1, 2, 5) using the carrageenan-induced hind paw oedema model on rats. Surprisingly, the results on the in vitro level revealed that the complexes show negligible cytotoxicity and anti-inflammatory activity, however, the activity on the in vivo level was found to be significant, fully comparable with the utilized drug Indomethacin, or even better as compared to a gold-containing metallodrug Auranofin.
