Abstract
Two 1D coordination polymers were synthesized by reaction of two ligands, 2-amino-4-picoline (2A4Pic) and quinoline-6-carboxylic acid (Qu-6-COOH) with two metal (II) nitrate (M = Cd and Cu) in the presence of azide as a linker. The synthesized metal complexes [Cd(2A4Pic)2(N3)2]n; (1) and [Cu(Qu-6-COO)(N3)(H2O)]n; (2) were isolated in single crystals and their X-ray structures revealed a 1D polymeric structure. Due to symmetry considerations, the asymmetric formula is half a [Cd(2A4Pic)2(N3)2] unit for 1 and one [Cu(Qu-6-COO)(N3)(H2O)] unit for 2. In complex 1, the Cd(II) is hexa-coordinated with two 2A4Pic molecules and four μ(1,1) azide units. Hence, the CdN6 coordination environment has a slightly distorted octahedral geometry. In 2, the Cu(II) is hexa-coordinated with three different ligands (Qu-6-COO¯, H2O and μ(1,1) N3¯) where all are connectors between the crystallographically related Cu(II) sites. Additionally, complex 2 distorted CuN2O4 octahedral geometry. In both complexes, the polymer arrays are connected by N…H hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions. Based on Hirshfeld analysis, the percentages of N…H contacts are 43.1 and 27.4% for 1 and 2, respectively, while %C...C are 5.6 and 9.3%, respectively. Analysis of Cu-N, Cu-O, and Cd-N bonds using DFT calculations showed predominantly closed-shell coordination interactions with little covalent characters. Additionally, the negatively charged ligand groups were found to compensate the positive charge of the central metal ion to a larger extent than the electrically neutral ligands.

Structure, Optical and Magnetic Properties of Two Isomeric 2-Bromomethylpyridine Cu(II) Complexes [Cu(C 6H 9NBr) 2(NO 3) 2] with Very Different Binding Motives. MOLECULES (BASEL, SWITZERLAND) 2023; 28:molecules28020731. [PMID: 36677789 PMCID: PMC9866386 DOI: 10.3390/molecules28020731] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Figures] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 12/14/2022] [Revised: 12/29/2022] [Accepted: 01/05/2023] [Indexed: 01/12/2023]
Abstract
Two isomeric 2-bromomethylpyridine Cu(II) complexes [Cu(C6H9NBr)2(NO3)2] with 2-bromo-5-methylpyridine (L1) and 2-bromo-4-methylpyridine (L2) were synthesized as air-stable blue materials in good yields. The crystal structures were different with [Cu(L1)2(NO3)2] (CuL1) crystallizing in the monoclinic space group P21/c, while the 4-methyl derivative CuL2 was solved and refined in triclinic P1¯. The orientation of the Br substituents in the molecular structure (anti (CuL1) vs. syn (CuL2) conformations) and the geometry around Cu(II) in an overall 4 + 2 distorted coordination was very different with two secondary (axially elongated) Cu-O bonds on each side of the CuN2O2 basal plane in CuL1 or both on one side in CuL2. The two Br substituents in CuL2 come quite close to the Cu(II) centers and to each other (Br⋯Br ~3.7 Å). Regardless of these differences, the thermal behavior (TG/DTA) of both materials is very similar with decomposition starting at around 160 °C and CuO as the final product. In contrast to this, FT-IR and Raman frequencies are markedly different for the two isomers and the UV-vis absorption spectra in solution show marked differences in the π-π* absorptions at 263 (CuL2) or 270 (CuL1) nm and in the ligand-to-metal charge transfer bands at around 320 nm which are pronounced for CuL1 with the higher symmetry at the Cu(II) center, but very weak for CuL2. The T-dependent susceptibility measurements also show very similar results (µeff = 1.98 µB for CuL1 and 2.00 µB for CuL2 and very small Curie-Weiss constants of about -1. The EPR spectra of both complexes show axial symmetry, very similar averaged g values of 2.123 and 2.125, respectively, and no hyper-fine splitting.

Abstract
Six pseudohalide zinc(II) containing a variety of N-donor auxiliary amines were structurally characterized. These include two mononuclear trigonal bipyramidal [Zn(NTB)(N3)]ClO4·½H2O (3) and [Zn(TPA)(NCS)]ClO4 (4), two distorted octahedral [Zn(1,8-damnph)2(dca)2] (5) and [Zn(8-amq)2(dca)2] (6a) as well as two 1D polymeric chains catena-[Zn(isq)2(μ1,5-dca)2] (7) and catena-[Zn(N,N-Me2en)2(μ1,5-dca)]dca (8), where NTB = tris(2-benzimidazolylmethyl)amine, TPA = tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine, 1,8-damnph = 1,8-diaminonaphthalene, 8-amq = 8-amino-quinoline, isq = isoquinoline (isq) and N,N-Me2en = N,N-dimethylethylenediamine. In general, with the exception of 6 and 8, the complexes exhibited luminescence emission in MeOH associated with red shift of the emission maxima, and the strongest visible fluorescence peak was detected at 421 nm (λex = 330 nm) in the case of Complex 5.

Abstract
Copper(II) complexes with 2,3,4-trimethoxybenzoic acid (H234-tmbz) and 2,4,6-trimethoxybenzoic acid (H246-tmbz), [Cu2(234-tmbz)4(H2O)2] (6) and [Cu(246-tmbz)2(µ-H2O)2(H2O)2]n (7), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared and UV-vis spectra and temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibilities (1.9–300 K). The X-ray crystal structures revealed that the former 6 is a dinuclear cluster having syn-syn-bridged Cu2(µ-234-tmbz)4 core with Cu···Cu separation of 2.6009(7) Å, while the latter 7 is a µ-aqua-bridged chain molecule consisting of Cu(246-tmb)2(µ-H2O)2(H2O)2 units with Cu···Cu separation of 4.1420(5) Å. Temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibilities showed that an antiferromagnetic interaction with 2J = −272 cm−1 for 6 and a weak antiferromagnetic interaction with J = −0.21 cm−1 for 7, between the two copper(II) ions. The adsorption isotherm of 6 showed Types I behavior having a 125.4 m2g−1 of specific surface area.

Abstract
Abstract
A new copper(II) complex containing cis-1,2-diaminocyclohexane (Dach) and azide as ligands, [Cu(Dach)2(N3)]Cl · 3H2O (1), was prepared and characterized by IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis and X-ray crystallography. The structure of 1 consists of a complex cation, [Cu(Dach)2(N3)]+, a chloride counter-ion and three water molecules. The coordination environment of the copper(II) atom in 1 is distorted square pyramidal attained by four nitrogen atoms of cis-1,2-diaminocyclohexane molecules and an azide ion. Thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetric analyses validated the molecular formula of complex 1.
