Crystal structure and biomimetic activity of homobinuclear dioxidovanadium(V) complexes containing succinoyldihydrazones ligands

Hydrazone-flavonol based oxidovanadium(V) complexes: Synthesis, characterization and antihyperglycemic activity of chloro derivative in vivo

Wet synthesis approach afforded four new heteroleptic mononuclear neutral diamagnetic oxidovanadium(V) complexes, comprising salicylaldehyde-based 2-furoic acid hydrazones and a flavonol coligand of the general composition [VO(fla)(L-ONO)]. The complexes were comprehensively characterized, including chemical analysis, conductometry, infrared, electronic, and mass spectroscopy, as well as 1D 1H and proton-decoupled 13C(1H) NMR spectroscopy, alongside extensive 2D 1H1H COSY, 1H13C HMQC, and 1H13C HMBC NMR analyses. Additionally, the quantum chemical properties of the complexes were studied using Gaussian at the B3LYP, HF, and M062X levels on the 6-31++g(d,p) basis sets. The interaction of these hydrolytically inert vanadium complexes and the BSA was investigated through spectrofluorimetric titration, synchronous fluorimetry, and FRET analysis in a temperature-dependent manner, providing valuable thermodynamic insights into van der Waals interactions and hydrogen bonding. Molecular docking was conducted to gain further understanding of the specific binding sites of the complexes to BSA. Complex 2, featuring a 5-chloro-substituted salicylaldehyde component of the hydrazone, was extensively examined for its biological activity in vivo. The effects of complex administration on biochemical and hematological parameters were evaluated in both healthy and diabetic Wistar rats, revealing antihyperglycemic activity at millimolar concentration. Furthermore, histopathological analysis and bioaccumulation studies of the complex in the brain, kidneys, and livers of healthy and diabetic rats revealed the potential for further development of vanadium(V) hydrazone complexes as antidiabetic and insulin-mimetic agents.

Research Progress on the Biological Activities of Metal Complexes Bearing Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrazones

Due to the abundant and promising biological activities of aromatic hydrazones, it is of great significance to study the biological activities of their metal complexes for the research and development of metal-based drugs. In this review, we focus on the metal complexes of polycyclic aromatic hydrazones, which still do not receive much attention, and summarize the studies related to their biological activities. Although the large number of metal complexes in phenylhydrazone prevent them all from being summarized, the significant value of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons themselves (such as naphthalene and anthracene) as pharmacophores are also considered. Therefore, the bioactivities of the metal complexes of naphthylhydrazone and anthrahydrazone are focused on, and the recent research progress on the metal complexes of anthrahydrazone by the authors is also included. In terms of biological activities, these complexes mainly show antibacterial and anticancer activities, along with less bioactivities. The present review demonstrates that the structural design and bioactivities of these complexes are fundamental, which also indicates a certain structure-activity relationship (SAR) in some substructural areas. However, a systematic and comprehensive conclusion of the SAR is still not available, which suggests that more attention should be paid to the bioactivities of the metal complexes of polycyclic aromatic hydrazones since their potential in structural design and biological activity remains to be explored. We hope that this review will attract more researchers to devote their interest and energy into this promising area.

Helical water-soluble NiII complexes with pyridoxal ligand derivatives: Structural evaluation and interaction with biomacromolecules

This article deals with the synthesis of Schiff-based bis-azomethine-based ligands derived from pyridoxal and aliphatic dihydrazides and the synthesis of nickel(II) complexes C1-C4. The synthesized complexes had their structures elucidated by monocrystal X-ray diffraction and were characterized by vibrational and absorption spectroscopy. The synthesized ligands have characteristics that allow the formation of self-assembly processes, thus, the flexibility or rigidity of the coordination of organic molecules added to the orbitals of the Ni^II cation leads to the formation of helical complexes with double helix and a dinucler nickel(II) complex. Moreover, compounds was their interactions with CT-DNA and HSA absorption and emission analysis and molecular docking calculations.

Nature inspired poly (dopamine quinone -vanadyl) as new modifier for voltammetric determination of uric acid

The preparation of a novel polymer (poly(dopamine quinone-vanadyl) (polyDQV)) bearing dopaminequinone and VO^IV redox groups is described. PolyDQV was characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy as well as electrochemical methods such as differential pulse voltammetry, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The electrocatalytic activity of polyDQV was studied toward electrooxidation of uric acid using differential pulse voltammetry as well as cyclic voltammetry. PolyDQV presents interesting electrocatalytic activity toward UA oxidation in phosphate buffer solution (0.1 M, pH 2) to a well-defined oxidation peak at 0.65 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). The polyDQV-modified carbon paste electrode (CPE/polyDQV) presents a precise linear signal-concentration relationship in the ranges of 0.3-5 μM and 5 to 200 μM with a detection limit (S/N = 3) of 0.02 μM. The %RSD values for ten replicate measurements of 0.5 and 50 μM UA were 1.8 and 3%, respectively, indicating good repeatability of analytical signals. Appropriate recovery values (in the range 96 to 103%) and good selectivity for UA over common coexisting species (such as ascorbic acid and dopamine) exhibit that CPE/polyDQV is a promising novel platform for sensing UA in human blood serum and urine samples.
