A porous Zn(II)-based metal–organic framework for highly selective and sensitive Fe3+ ion detection in water

Highly fluorescent nickel based metal organic framework for enhanced sensing of Fe3+ and Cr2O72- ions

Heavy metal contamination has sparked widespread concern among the populace. The significant issues necessitate the creation of high-performance fluorescent pigments that can identify harmful elements in water. The present study deals with metal organic framework [MOF] based on nickel [Ni-BDC MOF]. The Ni-BDC MOF was prepared by facile solvothermal method using nickel nitrate hexahydrate and terephthalic acid ligand as precursors. The MOF was characterized by various techniques in order to examine the crystal, morphological, structural, composition, thermal and optical properties. The detailed characterizations revealed that the synthesized Ni-BDC MOF are well-crystalline with high purity and possessing 3D rhombohedral microcrystals with rough surface. The MOF demonstrate good luminescence performance and excellent water stability. According to the Stern Volmer plot, the tests set up under optimized conditions demonstrate a linear correlation between the fluorescence intensity and concentration of both ions, i.e. Fe³⁺, and Cr₂O₇^2- ions. The linear range and detection limit for Fe³⁺ and Cr₂O₇^2- were found to be 0-1.4 nM and 0.159 nM, and 0-1 nM and 0.120 nM, respectively. The mechanisms for the selective detection of cations and anions were also explored. The recyclability for the prepared MOF was checked up to five cycles which showed excellent stability with just a slight reduction in efficiency. The constructed sensor was also used to assess the presence of Fe³⁺ and Cr₂O₇^2- ions in actual water samples. The results of the different experiments revealed that the prepared MOF is a good material for detecting Fe³⁺ and Cr₂O₇^2- ions.

A Mo(VI) based coordination polymer as an antiproliferative agent against cancer cells

Metal ions being an important part of biological systems are of great interest in the designing of new drugs. Molybdenum is an essential trace element for humans, animals, and plants and naturally present in many enzymes hence its complexes can be expected to serve as potential candidates for biomedical applications. A novel molybdenum-based coordination polymer, [Mo2(μ2-O)O4(2-pyc)2(H2O)], is synthesized by a hydrothermal route and structurally characterized by using single crystal X-Ray diffraction. The structure consists of molybdenum octahedra connected by a bridging oxo ligand and 2-pyc forming a one-dimensional coordination polymer. This Mo coordination polymer was found to show a considerable inhibitory effect with IC50 values of 22.63 μmol L-1, 28.19 μmol L-1, and 20.97 μmol L-1, against HepG2 (human liver cancer), A549 (human lung cancer), and MCF-7 (human breast cancer) cell lines respectively. This is the first attempt at exploring the molybdenum-based coordination polymer for antitumor applications. The cell cytotoxicity analysis revealed that the anti-tumor potential of the compound is governed by arresting of the A549, HepG2, and MCF-7 cancer cells in the S phase of the cell cycle. UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy further revealed the binding interaction between the Mo coordination polymer and ctDNA and the binding constant was found to be 5.9 × 103 L mol-1, which is in agreement with those of well-known groove binders. This binding interaction in turn induces apoptosis and necrosis pathways leading to the death of the cancer cells.

Heterometallic coordination polymers: Treatment activity on diabetic foot by reducing the excess inflammatory response in the plantar tissue

Two new heterometallic coordination polymers formulated as {[LaCo(2.5-pydc)2(H2O)4]Cl·4H2O}n (1, 2,5-H2pydc = pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid) and {[LaCo2Cl3(4,4′-bpdc)2(H2O)3]·H2O}n (2, 4,4′-H2bpdc = 2,2′-bipyridyl-4,4′-dicarboxylic acid) have been solvothermally synthesized using the coordination between rare earth/transition metal ions and pyridinedicarboxylic acids. To develop new candidates for enhancing the therapeutic effect of improved negative pressure suction for diabetic foot, the activities of compounds 1 and 2 were studied. First, the ELISA (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay) detection kit was used and the inflammatory cytokines in the plantar tissue were measured. Besides, the TLR-4-NF-κB signaling pathway was measured with real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction.

Two metal-coordination polymers: Photocatalytic hydrogen production and clinical nursing value on gastric cancer combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy by inducing induce oxidative stress response

Two new coordination polymers (CPs) of {[Dy₂(abtc)_1.5(H₂O)₃(DMA)]·H₂O·DMA}_n (1; DMA = N,N-dimethylacetamide) and [NH₂(CH₃)₂][Ni_1.5(abtc)]·H₂O (2) were synthesized through utilizing 3,3',5,5'-azobenzenetetracarboxylic acid (H₄abtc) as an organic connector with the solvothermal reaction conditions. The HOMO-LUMO gap for ultra-stable complex 1 is 2.16 eV through the detection of the ultraviolet-visible spectrum with an absorption edge of 570 nm. The complex 1 reveals high catalytic effect for the ultraviolet-visible photocatalytic production of hydrogen, which is due to its light collection of the ligand with dye-like and porous architecture. Furthermore, the promotion effect of compounds 1 and 2 against the gastric cancer treatment was assessed when combined with intraperitoneal hyperthermia. Firstly, the inhibition of compounds 1 and 2 against the invasion and migration of cancer cells was evaluated with transwell assay. Moreover, the genes relative expression levels related with the reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in the cancer cells were also measured with real time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

A Mixed-ligand Zn(II)-based Coordination Polymer for Selectively Detect 2,4,6-Trinitrophenol (TNP) and Treatment Effect on Periodontal Diseases via Inhibition Effect on P. gingivalis Growth

A new difunctional Zn(II) coordination polymer (CP) with the chemical formula of [Zn(TBTA) (L)_1.5]_n (1) has been synthesized hydrothermally from tetrabromoterephthalic acid (H₂TBTA) and 4,4'-bis(imidazole-1-yl)-biphenyl (L) ligands. Furthermore, due to its strong intense emission and open N donor sites, complex 1 could be used as a light-emitting sensor to determine 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) which has high selectivity and sensitivity. Furthermore, the anti-bacterial effect of the compound against P. gingivalis in vitro was evaluated by measuring the P. gingivalis growth curves after compound treatment. And the RT-PCR assay was performed to detect the relative expression of ragA and ragB, which are important for the P. gingivalis growth. The potential anti-infectious mechanism was further studied by using molecular docking technique.

A New Luminescent Zn(II) Complex: Selective Sensing of Cr2O72- and Prevention Activity Against Orthodontic Root Absorption by Suppressing Inflammatory Response

A novel luminescent coordination polymer (CP) based on Zn(II) ions as nodes [Zn(OPY)_1.5(Hbtc)]_n (1), [H₃btc = trimesic acid and OPY = 4,4'-(oxybis(4,1-phenylene))dipyridine] has been prepared via the solvothermal assembly of a tripodal multicarboxylic acid ligand, a bis-pyridyl ligand with V-shape containing two diverse coordination patterns as well as Zn^{2 +} ion. The experiments of photoluminescence also reflect that the coordination polymer 1 has high sensitivity to potassium dichromate, and its quenching efficiency is K_sv of 2.12 × 10⁴ L·mol^- 1. Furthermore, its treatment activity on orthodontic root absorption was evaluated in vivo. Firstly, the CCK-8 assay was performed in this research to evaluate the biotoxicity of the synthetic compound. Next, the TNF-α and Cbfα1 released by the periodontal ligament fibroblast was determined via the ELISA test kit. In addition to this, the signaling pathway of NF-κB activation after treated with compound was measured by the RT-PCR.

A Fluorescent Zn(II) Coordination Polymer: Sensitive Detection of Cr2O72- in Water and Prevention Activity On the Deep Vein Thrombosis in Orthopedic Nursing

A novel coordination polymer (CP) based on Zn(II) of [Zn(tptc)_0.5(bpy)(H₂O)]_n (1) was synthesized through utilizing the 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) chelating N donors and p-terphenyl-2,2'',5'',5'''-tetracarboxylate acid (H₄tptc) as the co-ligands. The measurements of the fluorescence were implemented for the complex 1 in solution and solid state, and the result reveals that 1 has a strong fluorescence and it is a sensory material with great development space to determine the trace Cr₂O₇^2- (with the detection limit of 36 ppb) in the water solutions via applying the fluorescence quenching effect. As the common disease in the orthopedic nursing, the deep vein thrombosis was the objective in this research. The weigh and length of the thrombus in the animals were measured and analyzed. In addition to this, the inflammatory response in the deep vein thrombosis animal was evaluated by RT-PCR. Molecular docking results indicate that only the carboxyl group could provide polar oxygen atoms for the formed hydrogen bonds to the protein.
