Abstract
Six poly(amic acid)s (PAAs) were synthesized by reacting bis(3-aminophenyl) sulfone with various dianhydride monomers such as pyromellitic dianhydride, 4,4'-biphthalic anhydride, dicyclohexyl-3,4,3',4'-tetracarboxylic dianhydride, 4,4'-oxidiphthalic anhydride, 3,3',4,4'-benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride, and 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene) diphthalic anhydride. These PAAs were then converted to polyimide (PI) films by thermal imidization at various temperatures. To obtain colorless and transparent PI (CPI), the dianhydride monomer used in this study had an overall bent structure, a structure containing a strong electron-withdrawing -CF3 substituent or an alicyclic ring. In addition, some monomers contained ether or ketone functional groups in their bent structures. The thermomechanical properties, optical transparency, and solubility of CPI films with six different dianhydride monomer structures were investigated, and the correlation between the monomer structure and CPI film properties was clarified. Overall, CPI with an aromatic main chain structure or a linear structure had excellent thermal and mechanical properties. In contrast, CPI with a bent structure containing functional groups or substituents in the main chain exhibited excellent optical transparency and solubility.

Abstract
The rapid development of communication networks (5G and 6G) that rely on high-speed devices requiring fast and high-quality intra- and inter-terminal signal transmission media has led to a steady increase in the need for high-performance, low-dielectric-constant (Dk) (<2.5) materials. Consequently, low-dielectric polymeric materials, particularly polyimides (PIs), are very attractive materials that are capable of meeting the requirements of high-performance terminal devices that transmit broadband high-frequency signals. However, such a PI needs to be properly designed with appropriate properties, including a low Dk, low dielectric loss (Df), and low water absorptivity. PI materials are broadly used in various fields owing to their superior property/processibility combinations. This review summarizes the structural designs of PIs with low Dk and Df values, low water-absorbing capacity, and high optical transparency intended for communication applications. Furthermore, we characterize structure-property relationships for various PI types and finally propose structural modifications required to obtain useful values of the abovementioned parameters.

Abstract
High-quality and free-standing polyimide (PI) film with desirable mechanical properties and uniformity is in high demand due to its widespread applications in highly precise flexible and chip-integrated sensors. In this study, a free-standing PI film with high toughness was successfully prepared using a diamine monomer with ether linkages. The prepared PI films exhibited significantly superior mechanical properties compared to PI films of the same molecular structure, which can be attributed to the systematic exploration of the film-forming process. The exploration of the film-forming process includes the curing procedures, film-forming substrates, and annealing treatments. Additionally, the thickness uniformity and surface homogeneity of free-standing films were crucial for toughness. Increasing the crystallinity of the PI films by eliminating residual stress also contributed to their high strength. The results demonstrate that by adjusting the above-mentioned factors, the prepared PI films possess excellent mechanical properties, with tensile strength and elongation at break of 194.71 MPa and 130.13%, respectively.

Abstract
Colorless polyimides (CPIs) with outstanding mechanical properties are essential materials in the production of flexible display panels, foldable windows, and even spacecraft cockpits. This paper specifically elaborates that the Morkit unit, and azo and nitro chromophores are important factors contributing to yellow PI, together with the well-known charge transfer complex (CTC) theory. Three diamine monomers, two anhydrides monomers, and three blockers were used to inhibit chromophores formation and, thus, obtain CPI films. The cut-off wavelength was blue-shifts to 334 nm and the transmittance is improved to 98.9% in the UV–vis range. Mechanical and thermal properties of the CPI films are not reduced through coupling effects of the blockers. Therefore, the inhibition method of the Morkit units and chromophore groups is a promising process for preparing CPIs to be used as flexible display materials.

Abstract
Polyimides are usually synthesized over a long period of time, and the process is complex. In order to shorten the synthesis time and simplify the process, we developed an improved synthesis method, namely, microwave-assisted polycondensation. The 3,3′-4,4′-benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA)–2,4-tolylene diisocyanate (TDI)/1,1′-methylenebis(4-isocyanatobenzene) (MDI) ternary copolyimides prepared in this work have been synthesized using microwave heating at rather short reaction times (15 min), without the need for either the once-off addition of TDI/MDI or the drop-wise addition of that mixture. The structure of the desired ternary copolyimide was confirmed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Its glass-transition temperature is above 400°C, and the temperature for 5% thermal loss under nitrogen atmosphere is 508.8°C. The tensile strength is 141 MPa, which shows that the microwave-assisted copolyimide has excellent heat resistance and mechanical properties.

Abstract
Three new isomeric 6FDA-based polyimide-ionenes, with imidazolium moieties and varying regiochemistry (para-, meta-, and ortho- connectivity), and composites with three different ionic liquids (ILs) have been developed as gas separation membranes. The structural-property relationships and gas separation behaviors of the newly developed 6FDA polyimide-ionene + IL composites have been extensively studied. All the 6FDA-based polyimide-ionenes exhibited good compatibility with the ILs and produced homogeneous hybrid membranes with the high thermal stability of ~380 °C. Particularly, [6FDA I4A pXy][Tf2N] ionene + IL hybrids having [C4mim][Tf2N] and [Bnmim][Tf2N] ILs offered mechanically stable matrixes with high CO2 affinity. The permeability of CO2 was increased by factors of 2 and 3 for C4mim and Bnmim hybrids (2.15 to 6.32 barrers), respectively, compared to the neat [6FDA I4A pXy][Tf2N] without sacrificing their permselectivity for CO2/CH4 and CO2/N2 gas pairs.

Abstract
A new diamine monomer containing indole unit, 3,5-diamino- N-(4-(di(1H-indol-3-yl)methyl)phenyl)benzamide, was successfully synthesized and applied in the preparation of a series of polyimides (PIs) via a conventional two-step polymerization procedure with three aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides. The prepared polymers showed excellent solubility in organic solvents such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP), N, N-dimethylacetamide, and N, N-dimethylformamide. Flexible and strong films of PIs were obtained via casting from their solutions. The glass transition temperature of these polymers was in the range of 223–264°C. They were fairly stable up to a temperature around 300°C and lost 10% weight at 372°C in nitrogen atmosphere. All of the polymers revealed absorption maxima around 323 nm with a fluorescence emission maxima around 378–406 nm in NMP. The cyclic voltammetry of the PIs exhibited an oxidation wave with a peak at 1.07 V. The resulting polymer films had tensile strengths from 83 MPa to 107 MPa, elongates at break of 7–10%, and tensile moduli of 2.2–2.3 GPa.

Abstract
The diamine, 9,9-bis[4-(4-amino-3-hydroxylphenoxy)phenyl]fluorene (BAHPPF) was synthesized by the modified two-step method. Then, a series of acetate-containing copoly(ether-imide)s were prepared by the copolymerization of BAHPPF, 9,9-bis(4-aminophenyl)fluorene (BAF) and 2,2′-bis(3,4-dicarboxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA) followed by chemical imidization. The structures and properties of the BAHPPF and copoly(ether-imide)s were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer (NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer (UV-VIS), and tensile testing. Single gas permeation performances of these copoly(ether-imide)s were also studied for five representative gases of interest including H2, O2, N2, CO2, and CH4. The experimental results showed that the copoly(ether-imide)s showed excellent optical properties with high light transmittance above 80.2% at 450 nm. The glass transition temperature of these copolymers were higher than 333°C. Their tensile strength and Young’s module also increased, and the elongation decreased with the decrease of BAHPPF. High gas permeabilities of copoly(ether-imide)s were obtained, and the ideal selectivity of CO2/CH4 was improved due to the introduction of acetate group and flexible ether linkage. These copoly(ether-imide)s could be applied to the field of optics and gas separation.
