Abstract
In the last decade, unceasing interest in atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) has been noted, especially in aqueous dispersion systems. Emulsion or miniemulsion is a preferred environment for industrial polymerization due to easier heat dissipation and lower production costs associated with the use of water as a dispersant. The main purpose of this review is to summarize ATRP methods used in emulsion media with different variants of initiating systems. A comparison of a dual over single catalytic approache by interfacial and ion pair catalysis is presented. In addition, future development directions for these methods are suggested for better use in biomedical and electronics industries.

Abstract
In contrast with previous accounts, it is reported that a single, strongly hydrophilic Cu complex can control an electrochemically mediated atom transfer radical polymerization (eATRP) in oil-in-water miniemulsion in the presence of anionic surfactants, such as sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The anionic surfactant interacted strongly with cationic copper complexes, enabling controlled polymerization by a combination of "interfacial" and "ion-pair" catalysis, whereby ion pairs transport the catalyst to the monomer droplets. The ion-pair system was assembled in situ by mixing commercially available reagents (NaBr, SDS, and traditional hydrophilic copper complexes). Polymer purification was very facile because after reaction >99% of the hydrophilic copper complexes spontaneously left the hydrophobic polymer particles.

Abstract
The formation of nanostructured shape anisotropic nanoparticles from poly(ferrocenylsilane)-b-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (PFS-b-P2VP) block copolymers is presented. Ellipsoidal particles with an axially stacked lamellar structure and nanosheets with a hexagonal structure of PFS cylinders are obtained under neutral wetting conditions through the use of a mixed surfactant system during self-assembly. In contrast to traditional systems, the resulting particle structure is strongly influenced by crystallization of the PFS domains under colloidal confinement with lamella-forming PFS-b-P2VP block copolymers leading to cylindrical morphologies. A blending approach was developed to control this morphological change and by the addition of PFS homopolymers, ellipsoidal particles with a lamellar structure could also be obtained. Ultimately, the spatial control over two orthogonal functionalities was exploited to demonstrate morphology transitions for nanosheets upon the exposure to methanol as solvent for P2VP and FeCl3 as a redox stimulus, opening up a variety of applications in the field of stimuli-responsive materials.

Synthesis of CO2/N2-triggered reversible stability-controllable poly(2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate)-grafted-AuNPs by surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization. Abstract
CO2/N2-triggered stability-controllable gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) grafted with poly(2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDEAEMA) layers (PDEAEMA-g-AuNPs) were synthesized by the surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization of DEAEMA with AuNPs bearing the bis[2-(2-bromoisobutyryloxy)undecyl] layer (grafting from method). Extension of the PDEAEMA chain length increased the stability of the PDEAEMA-g-AuNPs in CO2-bubbled water because of the electrosteric repulsion of the protonated PDEAEMA layer. The chain-length-dependent stability of PDEAEMA-g-AuNPs was confirmed by DLS and UV-vis spectra by using the localized surface plasmon resonance property of the AuNPs, where the extinction wavelength was shifted toward shorter wavelength with increasing PDEAEMA chain length. The reversible stability change with the gas stimuli of CO2/N2 was also successfully demonstrated. Finally, the transfer across the immiscible interface between water and organic solvent was successfully demonstrated by N2-triggered insolubilization of PDEAEMA layer on AuNPs in the aqueous phase, leading to the successful collection of AuNPs using organic solvent from the aqueous phase. Our "grafting from" method of reversible stability-controllable AuNPs can be applied to develop advanced materials such as reusable optical AuNP-based nanosensors because the molecular recognition layer can be constructed by two-step polymerization.

Abstract
The polymerization rate, control/livingness, and particle morphology in seeded activators generated by electron transfer for the atom-transfer radical polymerization of styrene with PiBMA-Br macroinitiator particles were investigated at 70, 90, and 110 degrees C. At 110 degrees C, the polymerization proceeded quickly until 60% conversion was reached, but control/livingness was not observed. This seems to be the reason for the high activation rate and spontaneous initiation of styrene, which significantly increased the radical concentration, resulting in a number of radical terminations. As a result, the block copolymer was not sufficiently formed, leading to a sea-island structure. However, at 70 and 90 degrees C, the polymerizations were almost complete in 14 and 7 h, respectively. Control/livingness was maintained, resulting in PiBMA-b-PS. As a result, onionlike multilayered particles were successfully synthesized. These polymerization behaviors were discussed from the viewpoint of the radical concentration and propagation rate coefficient at various temperatures.
