Abstract
Non-conjugated pendant electroactive polymers (NCPEPs) are an emerging class of polymers that offer the potential of combining the desirable optoelectronic properties of conjugated polymers with the superior synthetic methodologies and stability of traditional non-conjugated polymers. Despite an increasing number of studies focused on NCPEPs, particularly on understanding fundamental structure-property relationships, no attempts have been made to provide an overview on established relationships to date. This review showcases selected reports on NCPEP homopolymers and copolymers that demonstrate how optical, electronic, and physical properties of the polymers are affected by tuning of key structural variables such as the chemical structure of the polymer backbone, molecular weight, tacticity, spacer length, the nature of the pendant group, and in the case of copolymers the ratios between different comonomers and between individual polymer blocks. Correlation of structural features with improved π-stacking and enhanced charge carrier mobility serve as the primary figures of merit in evaluating impact on NCPEP properties. While this review is not intended to serve as a comprehensive summary of all reports on tuning of structural parameters in NCPEPs, it highlights relevant established structure-property relationships that can serve as a guideline for more targeted design of novel NCPEPs in the future.

Abstract
Successive Kumada-Tamao catalyst-transfer condensation polymerization of 2-bromo-5-chloromagnesio-3-hexylthiophene and Suzuki-Miyaura end-functionalization with pinacol arylboronate in one pot afforded poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) with a base-sensitive functional group at both ends. The use of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) bearing a boronic acid ester moiety at one end enabled one-pot synthesis of PMMA-b-P3HT-b-PMMA triblock copolymer.

Abstract
Intramolecular catalyst transfer on benzoheterodiazoles was investigated in Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions and polymerization reactions with t Bu3 PPd precatalyst. In the coupling reactions of dibromobenzotriazole, dibromobenzoxazole, and dibromobenzothiadiazole with pinacol phenylboronate, the product ratios of monosubstituted product to disubstituted product were 0/100, 27/73, and 89/11, respectively, indicating that the Pd catalyst undergoes intramolecular catalyst transfer on dibromobenzotriazole, whereas intermolecular transfer occurs in part in the case of dibromobenzoxazole and is predominant for dibromobenzothiadiazole. The polycondensation of 1.3 equivalents of dibromobenzotriazole with 1.0 equivalent of para- and meta-phenylenediboronates afforded high-molecular-weight polymer and cyclic polymer, respectively. In the case of dibromobenzoxazole, however, para- and meta-phenylenediboronates afforded moderate-molecular-weight polymer with bromine at both ends and cyclic polymer, respectively. In the case of dibromobenzothiadiazole, they afforded low-molecular-weight polymers with bromine at both ends. Addition of benzothiadiazole derivatives interfered with catalyst transfer in the coupling reactions.

Abstract
Polymers have had an enormous impact on science and technology, and their interest relating to the development of new macromolecular materials has exponentially increased. Polymer nanocomposites, materials based on a polymeric matrix covalently coupled to reinforcement, display properties of both components. In the aerospace industry, polymer nanocomposites are attractive due to their promising characteristics, among which lightness, mechanical and thermal resistance, radiation and corrosion resistance, and conductive and magnetic properties stand out. The use of them, instead of metal-based materials, has allowed the optimization of design processes and applications in order to provide safer, faster, and eventually cheaper transportation in the future. This comparative review collects the most relevant and prominent advances in the development of polymer nanocomposites with aerospace applications starting from basic aspects such as the definition of polymer nanocomposite to more specialized details such as synthesis, characterization, and applications, in addition to proposing new research branches related to this topic.

Abstract
A catalytic heterogenous Suzuki polymerization method was developed by confining the Pd(II)-catalyzed cross coupling reactions to take place exclusively in the nanochannels of dendritic mesoporous silica nanoparticles. Conjugated polymers with various monomer combinations, including donor-acceptor structures, were obtained in high yields. The molecular weights of the obtained polymers were well controlled with narrow molecular weight distributions (PDI value down to 1.13). All the polymeric products were highly soluble in common organic solvents, granting them with high processability. All the features of this confined Suzuki polymerization method endow the conjugated polymers great potential in optoelectronic applications.

Abstract
Catalyst-transfer polymerization has revolutionized the field of polymer synthesis due to its living character, but for a given catalyst system, the polymer scope is rather narrow. Herein we report a highly efficient Suzuki-Miyaura catalyst-transfer polymerization (SCTP) that covers a wide range of monomers from electron-rich (donor, D) to electron-deficient (acceptor, A) (hetero)arenes by rationally designing boronate monomers and using commercially available Buchwald RuPhos and SPhos Pd G3 precatalysts. Initially, we optimized the controlled polymerization of 3,4-propylenedioxythiophene (ProDOT), benzotriazole (BTz), quinoxaline (QX), and 2,3-diphenylquinoxaline (QXPh) by introducing new boronates, such as 4,4,8,8-tetramethyl-1,3,6,2-dioxazaborocane and its N-benzylated derivative, to modulate the reactivity and stability of the monomers. As a result, PProDOT, PBTz, PQX, and PQXPh were prepared with controlled molecular weight and narrow dispersity (Đ < 1.29) in excellent yield (>85%). A detailed investigation of the polymer structures using 1H NMR and MALDI-TOF spectrometry supported the chain-growth mechanism and the high initiation efficiency of the SCTP method. In addition, the use of RuPhos-Pd showing excellent catalyst-transfer ability on both D/A monomers led to unprecedented controlled D-A statistical copolymerization, thereby modulating the HOMO energy level (from -5.11 to -4.80 eV) and band gap energy (from 1.68 to 1.91 eV) of the resulting copolymers. Moreover, to demonstrate the living nature of SCTP, various combinations of D-A and A-A block copolymers (PBTz-b-PProDOT, PQX-b-PProDOT, and PQX-b-PBTz) were successfully prepared by the sequential addition method. Finally, simple but powerful one-shot D-A block copolymerization was achieved by maximizing the rate difference between a fast-propagating pinacol boronate donor and a slow-propagating acceptor to afford well-defined poly(3-hexylthiophene)-b-poly(benzotriazole).

Abstract
In the search for semiconducting polymer alternatives to conjugated polymers, stereoregular nonconjugated pendant electroactive polymers (NCPEPs) have recently shown competitive hole mobilities with conjugated polymers and a dramatic increase in mobility relative to atactic analogues. Here we investigate one of the key structural variables of NCPEPs: the flexible alkyl spacer that separates the electroactive pendant from the backbone. We investigate a straightforward postpolymerization functionalization synthetic method to synthesize such polymers with high isotacticity using poly(N-carbazolylalkyl acrylate) as a model system, where the alkyl chain spacer in the NCPEPs is varied from 2 to 12 carbons. We observed that the hole mobility increased from the two-carbon spacer, resulting in the highest mobility upon thermal annealing with a four-carbon spacer for 75% isotactic polymers and with a six-carbon spacer for 87% isotactic polymers. As such, we have demonstrated an important role of the spacer chain in influencing mobility. For all spacer lengths, higher mobilities were measured with the more isotactic polymer. While physical characterization of the largely amorphous polymers yielded little insight into the structure-function relationships, DFT and MD simulations indicated helical structures for the polymers where intermolecular short-range π-stacking is observed and is affected by spacer chain length. This work demonstrates that both the degree of stereoregularity and the spacer chain length play a role in determining the hole mobility in NCPEPs.

Abstract
Electron-deficient (n-type) conjugated materials are commonly prepared via step-growth methods with limited control over the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the resulting polymers. In this communication, we demonstrate that Pd-dialkylbiarylphosphine catalysts enable the chain-growth polymerization of benzo[1,2,3]triazole using Suzuki-Miyaura coupling with molecular weight control and modest molecular weight distributions (Đ ∼ 1.2-1.6). The importance of a free ligand in the reaction mixture during polymerization was established by analysis of polymer samples using GPC and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. A block copolymer with poly(3-hexylthiophene) was also synthesized by sequential monomer addition. The success of these commercially available catalysts for polymerization of benzotriazole highlights their potential for chain-growth reactions with other bicyclic arenes in the future.

Abstract
Due to a wide range of applications in electronic materials, polythiophenes attract considerable attention in organic and polymer syntheses as well as in materials science. For the purpose of developing the practical synthetic protocol, this review focuses on the deprotonative pathway in the preparation of thiophene organometallic monomer, which was shown to be effective employing 2-halo-3-substituted thiophene as a monomer precursor. The thus metallated thiophene monomer was shown to undergo polymerization by nickel(II) complex catalysis, with which highly regioregular head-to-tail (HT)-type polythiophenes were obtained with controlled molecular weight and molecular weight distribution. Several polythiophene derivatives with modified thiophene-ring and side-chain structures were shown to be designed in order to achieve the designed functionality as materials.

Synthesis of Amphiphilic Block Copolymers Containing Chiral Polythiophene Chains and Their Micelle Formation and Chiroptical Properties. Polymers (Basel) 2018; 10:polym10070718. Abstract
Amphiphilic block copolymers consisting of hydrophobic regioregular head-to-tail (HT) chiral ((S)-poly-1a-b-poly-3) or achiral (poly-1b-b-poly-3) polythiophene chains and a hydrophilic poly(acrylic acid) chain were synthesized. (S)-Poly-1a-b-poly-3 with a chiral polythiophene block formed a micelle in water that exhibited a characteristic induced circular dichroism (ICD) in the π–π* transition region due to the formation of supramolecular π-stacked chiral aggregates of the chiral polythiophene blocks in the core. These aggregates were stable, showing no precipitation for more than 5 days. Micelles consisting of chiral (S)-poly-1a-b-poly-3 and achiral poly-1b-b-poly-3 showed negative nonlinear effects on supramolecular chiral aggregate formation in the core. Chiral polythiophene aggregates formed in (S)-poly-1a-b-poly-3 micelle cores were stabilized by the crosslinking of poly(acrylic acid) blocks with diamines in the shell. The ICD intensity of the (S)-poly-1a-b-poly-3 micelle after shell crosslinking showed almost no change with temperature, while that before shell crosslinking decreased with increasing temperature.

Abstract
Controlled Pd(0)-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling polymerizations of AB-type monomers with tris(1-adamantyl)phosphine (Ad3P) as the ligand was described. Ad3P-coordinated acetanilide-based palladacycle complex (1) was demonstrated to be an efficient initiator for controlled Suzuki cross-coupling polymerization, affording polymers with narrow Đs and well-controlled end groups. Our study provided an efficient ligand and an efficient initiator for controlled Suzuki cross-coupling polymerizations.

Abstract
The relevance of LnPdX2 precatalyst activation on the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction course was investigated in the case of catalyst-transfer polymerizations. A catalytic study, backed up by theoretical calculations, allowed to ascertain the coexistence of a neutral and an anionic mechanistic pathways in the precatalyst activation, in which the bulky tBu3P external ligand plays a crucial role. The fine-tuning of the catalytic conditions can steer the activation step toward the anionic pathway, leading to the full control over the polymerization course. While providing insights and perspectives into the catalyst-transfer polymerizations, these results uncover unexplored scenarios for the pre-transmetalation events of Suzuki-Miyaura reactions contributing to its full understanding.
