Abstract
Cyclic polymers have long been reported in the literature, but their development has often been stunted by synthetic difficulties such as the presence of linear contaminants. Research into the synthesis of these polymers has made great progress in the past decade, and this review covers the synthesis, properties, and applications of cyclic polymers, with an emphasis on bio-based aliphatic polyesters. Synthetic routes to cyclic polymers synthesized from bioderived monomers, alongside mechanistic descriptions for both ring closure and ring expansion polymerization approaches, are reviewed. The review also highlights some of the unique physical properties of cyclic polymers together with potential applications. The findings illustrate the substantial recent developments made in the syntheses of cyclic polymers, as well as the progress which can be made in the commercialization of bio-based polymers through the versatility this topology provides.

Abstract
Typical cyclic diblock polymers are synthesized from their linear precursors via the ring-closure strategy in dilute conditions. Here we demonstrate a pseudo-high-dilution condition strategy for the efficient synthesis of cyclic rod-coil diblock copolymer from its linear precursor in selective solvents. The critical association concentration (CAC) of linear precursor is used for the control of unimer concentration during cyclization, while high copolymer synthetic concentrations are achieved via the dynamic equilibrium between unimers and micelles. The effects of CAC and micelle concentration on cyclization yield are studied and pure cyclic rod-coil diblock copolymer was obtained after azide resin treatment. Property investigations show the cyclic rod-coil copolymer has a larger second virial coefficient than its linear counterpart and self-assembles in selective solvents to form larger but looser spherical micelles due to its constraint topological structure.

Abstract
Polystyrenesulfonate (PSS), as one of the most important categories of polyelectrolytes, has received increasing attention due to its great potential in the applications of energy- and biomedical-related fields. However, most of the previous studies only focused on linear PSS and its derivatives, but little attention was paid to nonlinear topological PSSs. So far, the synthesis of nonlinear PSSs with well-defined structures is still a challenging task, and the main obstacle lies in the stability issue of functional chemical linkages during the sulfonation process of polystyrene (PS) precursors, such as the carbon-oxygen-containing linkages. Herein, by rationally designing the chemical structure of the functional linkage, we introduce a versatile and efficient strategy for the preparation of topological PSSs. Specifically, by embedding firm triazole linkages (without carbon-oxygen linkages) into the backbone structure of cyclic and hyperbranched PS precursors, the backbone and functional linkages are found to present excellent chemical stability under certain sulfonation conditions, which eventually lead to the successful preparation of cyclic and hyperbranched PSSs. By using two sets of PSS samples with varied molar masses, the scaling relations between the number of repeating units and the sedimentation coefficient are established for both linear and cyclic PSSs. We believe that our proposed synthetic strategy is universal and could be extended to the synthesis of other types of topological PSSs.
