Abstract
In this study, a SiO2 layer-coated g-C3N4 catalyst was prepared by a sol-gel method to overcome the poor adsorption ability and high recombination rate of charge carriers of pristine g-C3N4. SEM and TEM images indicated that SiO2 nanoparticles were coated on the surface of g-C3N4 nanoparticles with a layered structure and the layers were tightly contacted with g-C3N4. XRD patterns, FTIR spectra, UV-vis spectra and XPS spectra revealed that the structure of g-C3N4 was not destroyed and its photoelectric catalytic properties were not suppressed by the coating of SiO2 layers. Adsorption experiments revealed that the SiO2 layers improved the adsorption performance of g-C3N4 and their ratios were adjusted. The molecular weights of the final products of the degradation of RhB and antibiotics were at the micro-molecule level while the amount of g-C3N4 reached 1.2% of the mass fraction, which were more suitable for pollutant degradation compared with those of g-C3N4 due to its poor adsorption ability. The reason for this was likely that the SiO2 layers were not only beneficial for the adsorption of pollutants and intermediate products but also for prolonging the life time of the separated electrons and holes. Finally, active trapping experiments confirmed that both the holes and superoxide radicals were the main factors in the degradation of RhB and antibiotics, with the superoxides being the most active species.

Abstract
Novel materials using biowaste as adsorbents in wastewater treatment have been allocated considerable interest. Herein, we present the synthesis of different hydrogels of crosslinked polyacrylamide in presence of hemicelluloses with/ without bentonite, using a soft reaction condition. The structure of new hydrogels was characterized by spectroscopic, thermal and microscopic experiments. The semi-interpenetrated network with hemicelluloses: 10 %; acrylamide 79 %; bentonite 10 %; N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine: 1 % allows reducing 20 % the use of non-renewable acrylamide, without changing its decomposition temperatures and keeping its water absorption capacity. This hydrogel was applied to dye removals, such as rhodamine B, methylene red and methylene blue in aqueous solutions. In the case of methylene blue, highest removal is observed with maximum adsorption of qmax = 140.66 mg/g, compared to material without hemicelluloses that only a qmax = 88.495 mg/g. The adsorption kinetics and equilibrium adsorption isotherms are in accordance with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model, respectively. The developed hydrogel from hemicelluloses represents a potential alternative adsorbent for a sustainable system of sewage treatment.

Abstract
This work presents the synthesis of SiO2/Nb2O5 and SiO2/ZnS heterostructures using the microwave-assisted hydrothermal (MAH) method, which is fast and has low temperature. The silica used in the synthesis was obtained by burning the rice husk without any pre- or post-treatments. The obtained samples were characterized using various techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and UV-visible. The obtained silica was found to be amorphous, and the materials used for modification showed characteristic of the type of synthesis used. SEM images showed that Nb2O5 and ZnS interacted with the SiO2 surface, filling the voids. In the photocatalytic process, the heterostructures showed enhanced decolorization efficiency for dyes such as rhodamine B (RhB) and methylene blue (MB) compared to SiO2. For RhB, the silica decolorized approximately 24%, and for MB, it discolored approximately 27%; SiO2/Nb2O5 showed 91.24% decolorization efficiency for RhB and 72.77% MB, while SiO2/ZnS showed approximately 96% for RhB and 100% for MB. All samples were tested under the same conditions. This demonstrates that the use of rice husk residue not only improves the photocatalytic activity of heterostructures but also promotes the utilization of improperly discarded residues.

Abstract
Silica nanoparticles (SiO2 NPs) are one of the most well-studied inorganic nanoparticles for many applications. They offer the advantages of tunable size, biocompatibility, porous structure, and larger surface area. Thus, in this study, a high yield of SiO2 NPs was produced via the chemical treatment of rice husk ash by the sol-gel method. Characteristics of the prepared SiO2 NPs were validated using different characterization techniques. Accordingly, the phase, chemical composition, morphological, and spectroscopic properties of the prepared sample were studied. The average particle size of the SiO2 NPs was found to be approximately 60-80 nm and the surface area was 78.52 m²/g. The prepared SiO2 NPs were examined as photocatalysts for the degradation of methyl orange (MO) dye under UV irradiation. It was found that the intensity of the characteristic absorption band of MO decreased gradually with exposure time increasing, which means the successful photodegradation of MO by SiO2 NPs. Moreover, the antibacterial activity of obtained SiO2 NPs was investigated by counting the coliform bacteria in the surface water using the most probable number (MPN) index method. The results revealed that the MPN of coliform bacteria untreated and treated by SiO2 NPs was estimated to be 170 CFU/100 mL and 10 CFU/100 mL, respectively, resulting in bacterial growth inhibition of 94.12%.
