Spouted-Bed Gasification of Flame Retardant Textiles as a Potential Non-Conventional Biomass. APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL 2020. Abstract
Renewable energy from thermal valorization plays a key part in today’s energy from natural cellulosic textiles that are resourceful biomass and safe from toxicity at high temperature treatments. The situation is opposite, when technical textiles are treated with synthetic chemical finishes adding functionality as anti-bacterial, water repellent or flame retardant, etc. Incineration of flame retardant textile results in possible unfavorable gases, toxic fumes and contaminated ash. Other thermal valorization techniques like gasification would assist in avoiding the formation of additional toxic hazards. Herein, gasification of flame retardant textile is carried out the likelihood to get quality gas composition. For comparative analysis, flame retardant textiles, after their flame retardant ability being revoked, are also gasified. The output gas components suggested that gasification can be a useful thermal valorization approach for flame retardant textiles and relevantly improved gas composition was seen in textiles with their flame retardant substrate/species being removed.

Abstract
In this work, three polymer suspensions were used for coating glass beads (GB), porcelain beads (PB), and polyethylene pellets (PP) in spouted bed. Subsequently, the continuous adsorption assays of the food dye Brilliant Blue FCF in a fixed bed column were performed, which was packed with the covered particles. Also, the static adsorption assays were carried out. The adsorption equilibrium isotherms were fitted by Freundlich, Langmuir, and Temkin models, being that the Temkin model was the most suitable to represent the equilibrium data. The particle coating in the spouted bed showed promising results due to the high efficiency of the process. The PB, GB, and PP obtained coating efficiency values in the range to 92-96% when using the suspension of chitosan and hydroxyethyl cellulose. However, only the polyethylene particles coated with the chitosan suspension maintained its coating efficiency (95%). The maximum adsorption capacities at equilibrium of the coated particles of PP and GB were achieved with the chitosan suspension, being the values of around 800 mg g-1. Thus, the chitosan-coated polyethylene particles showed to be a promising adsorbent for fixed bed column. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
Abstract
In this work, a comparative study of Euler-Euler and Euler-Lagrange approaches for modeling gas-solid flows in the multiple-spouted bed has been carried out to investigate the hydrodynamics of gas-solid flows. The influence of inlet gas velocity on the hydrodynamics of gas-solid flows in the multiple-spouted bed is investigated as well. Hydrodynamic characteristics of gas-solid flows such as flow behaviors, solid volume fraction, particle velocity and particle trajectory are analyzed and discussed in detail, providing some basic mechanism analysis of the gas-solids in the multiple-spouted bed. It is found that the central spout gas jet is a little confined by the auxiliary gas jets, and the hole-to-hole synergy is quite obvious when the auxiliary spout gas velocity is higher than the central spout gas velocity. When central/auxiliary gas velocity is 10/20 m/s, the maximum vertical particle velocities predicted by Euler-Euler and Euler-Lagrange approaches are 452 mm/s and 721 mm/s at the height of 10 mm respectively. A typical cycle period of a single particle is about 1.25 s, and the residence time in the spout regions is about 0.14 s in one cycle period in auxiliary dominant pattern. The curves of bed expansion height versus time calculated by Euler-Lagrange approach rise and fall periodically, while the curves calculated by Euler-Euler approach keep steady with little change. It is much easier for particles to be blew in the multiple-spouted bed using the Euler-Lagrange approach. The simulation results obtained from two models can provide some guidance for modifying the multiple-spouted bed to optimize physical operations such as drying and coating in the multiple-spouted bed.
