Thermophysical, rheological and electrical properties of mono and hybrid TiB2/B4C nanofluids based on a propylene glycol:water mixture

Using of artificial neural networks and different evolutionary algorithms to predict the viscosity and thermal conductivity of silica-alumina-MWCN/water nanofluid

This study predicts the parameters such as viscosity and thermal conductivity in silica-alumina-MWCN/water nanofluid using the artificial intelligence method and using design variables such as solid volume fraction and temperature. In this study, 6 optimization algorithms were used to predict and numerically model the μnf and TC of silica-alumina-MWCNT/water-NF. In this study, six measurement criteria were used to evaluate the estimates obtained from the coupling process of GMDH ANN with each of these 6 optimization algorithms. The results reveal that the influence of the φ is notably higher on both μnf and TC with values of 0.83 for μnf and 0.92 for TC, while Temp has a relatively weaker impact with -0.5 for μnf and 0.38 for TC. Among various algorithms, the coupling of the evolutionary algorithm NSGA II with ANN and GMDH performs best in predicting μnf and TC for the NF, with a maximum margin of deviation of -0.108 and an R2 evaluation criterion of 0.99996 for μnf and 1 for TC, indicating exceptional model accuracy. In the subsequent phase, a meta-heuristic Genetic Algorithm minimizes μnf and TC values. Four points (A, B, C, and D) along the Pareto front are selected, with point A representing the optimal state characterized by low values of φ and Temp (0.0002 and 50.8772, respectively) and corresponding target function values of 0.9988 for μnf and 0.6344 for TC. In contrast, point D represents the highest values of φ and Temp (0.49986 and 59.9775, respectively) and yields target function values of 2.382 for μnf and 0.8517 for TC. This analysis aids in identifying the optimal operating conditions for maximizing NF performance.

Synthesis, thermophysical characterization and thermal performance analysis of novel Cu-MXene hybrid nanofluids for efficient coolant applications

Hybrid nanofluids are considered as an alternative for conventional heat transfer fluids and mono nanofluids due to its remarkable enhancement in thermo-physical properties. However, there are some limitations in achieving the better thermo-physical properties due to the stability of nanoparticles in different base fluids at higher concentration. This work aims at synthesizing, thermo-physical characterization and thermal performance estimation of stable Cu-MXene based hybrid nanofluids using various base fluids at very low volume concentration of Cu and MXene nanostructures. Two step method is employed to prepare Cu-MXene hybrid nanofluids by dispersing the low volume concentration of as prepared Cu and MXene nanostructures (ranging from 0.01-0.05 vol%) containing SDS surfactant in various base fluids such as water, methanol, castor oil and silicon oil. Synthesized mono and hybrid nanofluids shows excellent stability against aggregation up to 7 days as evidenced from higher zeta potential values. Wettability studies conducted using contact angle measurement suggests that the castor oil, methanol and silicon oil based hybrid nanofluids exhibits hydrophilic behavior (showing contact angle less than 90°). Hybrid nanofluids display excellent enhancement in thermal conductivity at very low concentration of nanostructures (more than 70% for methanol based Cu-MXene hybrid nanofluid). Viscosity of the silicone oil based hybrid nanofluids show a remarkable enhancement followed by water, methanol and castor oil based hybrid nanofluids. Thermal conductivity and viscosity of hybrid nanofluids are effectively validated with existing theoretical models. Moreover, specific heat and pumping power of the hybrid nanofluids with respect to volume concentration of nanostructures are determined using the existing theoretical equations. Thermal performance of hybrid nanofluids was successfully estimated using Figure of Merit (FOM) analysis and suggested the better heat transfer fluid for improving the heat transfer performance under laminar and turbulent flow conditions for efficient cooling applications.

Thermo-Optical Characterization of Therminol55 Based MXene-Al2O3 Hybridized Nanofluid and New Correlations for Thermal Properties

The current research focuses on formulating a new class of Therminol55-based nanofluids that incorporates an MXene/Al₂O₃ nanocomposite as the new class of dispersant at three different concentrations of 0.05, 0.10, and 0.20 wt%. The optical and thermophysical properties of the formulated nanofluid are assessed experimentally. Zeta potential and FTIR analyses are employed to evaluate the composite particles' surface charge and chemical stability, respectively. Thermal conductivity is observed to increase with nanoparticle loading and maximally augmented by 61.8% for 0.20 wt%, whereas dynamic viscosity increased with adding nanoparticles but remarkably dropped with increasing temperature. In addition, the prepared TH55/MXene + Al₂O₃ samples are thermally stable up to 200 °C according to TGA analyses. Moreover, the proposed correlations for the thermal conductivity and viscosity showed good agreement with the experimental data. The study’s findings suggest that the formulated nanofluid could be a viable contender to be used as a heat transfer fluid in the thermal sector.
