Abstract
Imaging studies of subthreshold depression (StD) have reported structural and functional abnormalities in a variety of spatially diverse brain regions. However, there is no consensus among different studies. In the present study, we applied a multimodal meta-analytic approach, the Activation Likelihood Estimation (ALE), to test the hypothesis that StD exhibits spatially convergent structural and functional brain abnormalities compared to healthy controls. A total of 31 articles with 25 experiments were included, collectively representing 1001 subjects with StD. We found consistent differences between StD and healthy controls mainly in the left insula across studies with various neuroimaging methods. Further exploratory analyses found structural atrophy and decreased functional activities in the right pallidum and thalamus in StD, and abnormal spontaneous activity converged to the middle frontal gyrus. Coordinate-based meta-analysis found spatially convergent structural and functional impairments in StD. These findings provide novel insights for understanding the neural underpinnings of subthreshold depression and enlighten the potential targets for its early screening and therapeutic interventions in the future.

Abstract
Purpose To investigate the effects of nonpharmacological interventions (NPIs) on poststroke depression (PSD) in stroke patients. Methods Computer searches were conducted on the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), and Wanfang databases from their establishment to December 2023. The selection was made using the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and 40 articles were included to compare the effects of the 17 NPIs on patients with PSD. Results Forty studies involving seventeen interventions were included. The network findings indicated that compared with conventional therapy (COT), superior PSD improvement was observed for cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) + acupoint acupuncture (CBTA) (mean difference [MD], -4.25; 95% CI, -5.85 to -2.65), team positive psychotherapy (MD, -4.05; 95% CI, -5.53 to -2.58), music therapy (MT) + positive psychological intervention (MD, -2.25; 95% CI, -3.65 to -0.85), CBT (MD, -1.52; 95% CI, -2.05 to -0.99), mindfulness-based stress reduction (MD, -1.14; 95% CI, -2.14 to -0.14), MT (MD, -0.95; 95% CI, -1.39 to -0.52), acupoint acupuncture + MT (AAMT) (MD, -0.69; 95% CI, -1.25 to -0.14). Furthermore, CBT (MD, -3.87; 95% CI, -4.57 to -3.17), AAMT (MD, -1.02; 95% CI, -1.41 to -0.62), acupressure + MT (MD, -0.91; 95% CI, -1.27 to -0.54), and narrative care + acupressure (MD, -0.74; 95% CI, -1.19 to -0.29) demonstrated superior Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) improvement compared with COT. Conclusion Evidence from systematic reviews and meta-analyses suggests that CBTA improves depression in patients with PSD. Moreover, CBT improves sleep in these patients. Additional randomized controlled trials are required to further investigate the efficacy and mechanisms of these interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Aerobic training has been shown to effectively prevent the progression of depressive symptoms from subthreshold depression (StD) to major depressive disorder (MDD), and understanding how aerobic training promotes changes in neuroplasticity is essential to comprehending its antidepressant effects. Few studies, however, have quantified the alterations in spontaneous brain activity before and after aerobic training for StD. METHODS Participants included 44 individuals with StD and 34 healthy controls (HCs). Both groups underwent moderate aerobic training for eight weeks, and resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data were collected before and after training. The degree centrality (DC) changes between the two groups and the DC changes in each group before and after training were quantified. RESULTS The rs-fMRI results showed that compared with the HCs, the DC values of the StD group in the orbital region of the left inferior frontal gyrus significantly depreciated at baseline. After aerobic training, the results of the follow-up examination revealed no significant difference in the DC values between the two groups. In addition, compared with baseline, the StD group exhibited an significant decrease in the DC values of the left dorsolateral superior frontal gyrus; while the HCs group exhibited an significant decrease in the DC values of the left thalamus. No statistically significant connection was seen between changes in DC values and psychological scale scores in the StD group. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that regular aerobic training can enhance brain plasticity in StD. In addition, we demonstrated that DC is a relevant and accessible method for evaluating the functional plasticity of the brain induced by aerobic training in StD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Older patients with depression often have accompanying physical diseases, thus, their disease situation is more complex than that of younger people. The medical community has aimed for earlier diagnosis of senile depression due to ineffective treatment and eventual cognitive impairment. METHOD Neuroimaging markers of senile depression were identified through the systematic analysis of multimodal data including resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) and structural MRI (sMRI), and compared with clinical neural scales between older participants with and without depression. RESULTS Morphological analysis of gray matter by MRI showed significantly enlarged volumes in the left inferior temporal gyrus and right talus fissure, and reduced volumes in the left parahippocampal gyrus and lentiform globus pallidus in the older depression group compared with those in the control group. Comparison of fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation between the groups showed increased partial brain activity in the left posterior central gyrus and right anterior central gyrus in the depression group compared with those in the control group. CONCLUSION Older patients with depression showed significant organic changes and significantly increased local brain activity. There was a positive correlation between the intensity of local brain activity in the superior occipital gyrus and the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale scores. GUIDING SIGNIFICANCE It is important to assess the organic changes and the degree of brain activity in specific brain regions in the clinical diagnosis of depression in the older adults, to adjust treatment plans early according to the incidence.

Abstract
Postpartum depression (PPD) is a common public health concern. A wide range of functional abnormalities in various brain regions have been reported in fMRI studies on PPD, however, a consistent functional changing pattern is still lacking. Herein, we obtained functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) data from 52 patients with PPD and 24 healthy postpartum women (HPW). Functional indexes (low-frequency fluctuation, degree centrality, and regional homogeneity) were calculated and compared among these groups to explore the functional changing patterns of PPD. Then, correlation analyses were performed to investigate the relationship between changed functional indexes and clinical measurements in the PPD. Finally, support vector machine (SVM) was performed to test whether these abnormal features can be used to distinguish PPD from HPW. As a result, we identified significantly and consistently functional changing pattern characterizing by increased functional activity in the left inferior occipital gyrus and decreased functional activity right anterior cingulate cortex in the PPD as compared to HPW. These functional values in the right anterior cingulate cortex were significantly correlated with depression symptoms in the PPD, and can be used as features to distinguish PPD from HPW. In conclusion, our results suggested that the right anterior cingulate cortex could be served as a functional neuro-imaging biomarker for PPD, which might be used as a potential target for neuro-modulation.

Abstract
The efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of depression has been fully recognized internationally. However, its central mechanism is still not developed into a unified standard, and it is generally believed that the central mechanism is regulation of the cortical striatum thalamic neural pathway of the limbic system. In recent years, some scholars have applied functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to study the central mechanism and the associated brain effects of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment for depression. This study reviews the acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of depression from two aspects: (1) fMRI study of the brain function related to the acupuncture treatment of depression: different acupuncture and moxibustion methods are summarized, the fMRI technique is elaborately explained, and the results of fMRI study of the effects of acupuncture are analyzed in detail, and (2) fMRI associated "brain functional network" effects of acupuncture and moxibustion on depression, including the effects on the hippocampus, the amygdala, the cingulate gyrus, the frontal lobe, the temporal lobe, and other brain regions. The study of the effects of acupuncture on brain imaging is not adequately developed and still needs further improvement and development. The brain function networks associated with the acupuncture treatment of depression have not yet been adequately developed to provide a scientific and standardized mechanism of the effects of acupuncture. For this purpose, this study analyzes in-depth the clinical studies on the treatment of anxiety and depression by acupuncture and moxibustion, by depicting how the employment of fMRI technology provides significant imaging changes in the brain regions. Therefore, the study also provides a reference for future clinical research on the treatment of anxiety and depression.

Abstract
Subthreshold depressive symptoms are highly prevalent among older adults and are associated with numerous health risks including cognitive decline and decreased physical health. One brain region central to neuroanatomical models of depressive disorders is the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). The rostral portion of the ACC-comprised of the pregenual ACC and subgenual ACC-is implicated in emotion control and reward processing. The goal of the current study was to examine how functional connectivity in subregions of the rostral ACC relate to depressive symptoms, measured by the Beck Depression Inventory-Second Edition, in an ethnically diverse sample of 28 community-dwelling older adults. Based on meta-analyses of previous studies in primarily young adults with clinical depression, we hypothesized that greater depressive symptoms would be associated with primarily increased resting-state functional connectivity from both the subgenual ACC and pregenual ACC to default mode network regions and the dorsolateral PFC. We instead found that higher depressive symptoms were associated with lower functional connectivity of the ACC to the dorsolateral PFC and regions within the default mode network, including from the subgenual ACC to the dorsolateral PFC and anterior cingulate and from the pregenual ACC to the middle cingulate gyrus. This preliminary study highlights brain alterations at subthreshold levels of depressive symptoms in older adults, which could serve as targets for interventions.

Abstract
Postpartum depression (PPD) and PPD comorbid with anxiety (PPD-A) are highly prevalent and severe mental health problems in postnatal women. PPD and PPD-A share similar pathopsychological features, leading to ongoing debates regarding the diagnostic and neurobiological uniqueness. This paper aims to delineate common and disorder-specific neural underpinnings and potential treatment targets for PPD and PPD-A by characterizing functional dynamics with resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging in 138 participants (45 first-episode, treatment-naïve PPD; 31 PDD-A patients; and 62 healthy postnatal women [HPW]). PPD-A group showed specifically increased dynamic amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation in the subgenual anterior cingulate cortex (sgACC) and increased dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) between the sgACC and superior temporal sulcus. PPD group exhibited specifically increased static FC (sFC) between the sgACC and ventral anterior insula. Common disrupted sFC between the sgACC and middle temporal gyrus was found in both PPD and PPD-A patients. Interestingly, dynamic changes in dFC between the sgACC and superior temporal gyrus could differentiate PPD, PPD-A, and HPW. Our study presents initial evidence on specifically abnormal functional dynamics of limbic, emotion regulation, and social cognition systems in patients with PDD and PPD-A, which may facilitate understanding neurophysiological mechanisms, diagnosis, and treatment for PPD and PPD-A.

Abstract
Background This study assesses the relationships between dynamic functional network connectivity (DFNC) and dementia risk. Methods DFNC of the default mode (DMN), salience (SN), and executive control networks was assessed in 127 cognitively unimpaired older adults. Stepwise regressions were performed with dementia risk and protective factors and biomarkers as predictors of DFNC. Results Associations were found between times spent in (i) a “weakly connected” state and lower self-reported engagement in early- and mid-life cognitive activity and higher LDL cholesterol; (ii) a “SN-negatively connected” state and higher blood pressure, higher depression score, and lower body mass index (BMI); (iii) a “strongly connected” state and higher self-reported engagement in early-life cognitive activity, Preclinical Alzheimer’s cognitive composite-5 score, and BMI; and (iv) a “DMN-negatively connected” state and higher self-reported engagement in early- and mid-life stimulating activities and lower LDL cholesterol and blood pressure. The lower number of state transitions was associated with lower brain perfusion. Conclusion DFNC states are differentially associated with dementia risk and could underlie reserve. Abstract
BACKGROUND The diagnosis of subclinical depression (SD) currently relies exclusively on subjective clinical scores and structured interviews, which shares great similarities with major depression (MD) and increases the risk of misdiagnosis of SD and MD. This study aimed to develop a method of disease classification for SD and MD by resting-state functional features using radiomics strategy. METHODS Twenty-six SD, 36 MD subjects and 33 well-matched healthy controls (HC) were recruited and underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). A novel radiomics analysis was proposed to discriminate SD from MD. Multi-scale brain functional features were extracted to explore a comprehensive representation of functional characteristics. A two-level feature selection strategy and support vector machine (SVM) were employed for classification. RESULTS The overall classification accuracy among SD, MD and HC groups was 84.21%. Particularly, the model excellently distinguished SD from MD with 96.77% accuracy, 100% sensitivity, and 92.31% specificity. Moreover, features with high discriminative power to distinguish SD from MD showed a strong association with default mode network, frontoparietal network, affective network, and visual network regions. LIMITATION The sample size was relatively small, which may limit the application in clinical translation to some extent. CONCLUSION These findings demonstrated that a valid radiomics approach based on functional measures can discriminate SD from MD with a high classification performance, facilitating an objective and reliable diagnosis individually in clinical practice. Features with high discriminative power may provide insight into a profound understanding of the brain functional impairments and pathophysiology of SD and MD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Physical exercise has been proved to reduce the risk of major depression in Subthreshold depression (StD) individuals effectively, yet little is known about the spontaneous brain activity changes associated with physical exercise. METHODS A total of 70 adult subjects, including 38 StD and 32 healthy control (HC) subjects, underwent a resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) before and after eight-week aerobic exercise respectively. Then, the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) alterations between the two groups were quantitatively analyzed. RESULTS Before exercise intervention, the rs-fMRI data showed increased ALFF of the right putamen in the StD group compared with HC group. After exercise intervention, there was no significant ALFF change observed between the StD and HC groups. The longitudinal ALFF differences from pre- to post- exercise intervention showed significantly decreased ALFF in the right middle and inferior occipital gyrus, right middle and inferior temporal gyrus, right fusiform gyrus (FG), while increased ALFF in the right middle cingulate, right superior parietal louble, right inferior parietal lobule (IPL) (inferior parietal gyrus and supramarginal gyrus), and bilateral precuneus in the StD group. As for HC group, the results showed that decreased ALFF in the right FG and right parahippocampus, while increased ALFF in the right precuneus, right middle cingulate, right supplementary motor area, right superior parietal lobule and right paracentral lobule in the HC group. No significant correlation between changes of ALFF and clinical scale scores in the StD group. LIMITATIONS The definitions of StD are varied in terms of different studies, the final sample size was relatively small, and the age range of the subjects in this study was narrow. Meanwhile, the exercise intervention trial was short-term. CONCLUSIONS These results further support the standpoint that physical exercise has the potential to reshape the abnormal patterns of spontaneous brain activity in adults with StD.

Abstract
Depression and anxiety are common in childhood and adolescence. Even though cardinal symptoms differ, there is a considerable overlap regarding the pathogenic influence of serotonergic innervation, negative life experience, disturbed emotion perception/affect regulation, and impaired neural functioning in the fronto-limbic circuit. In this study, we examined the effect of the 5-HTTLPR/rs25531 genotype on depressive symptoms and trait anxiety under the consideration of the amount of negative life events in healthy children and adolescents (N = 389). In a subsample of 49 subjects, we performed fMRI to add fronto-limbic brain activation as a second interacting factor. Across all subjects, negative life events moderated the influence of the 5-HTTLPR/rs25531 genotype on both depressive symptoms and trait anxiety. In the fMRI subsample, 5-HTTLPR/rs25531 S + S/LG + S/LA + LGLA + LGLG genotype-associated left middle frontal gyrus (MFG) activation mediated the influence of 5-HTTLPR/rs25531 genotype on depressive symptoms, however, only in combination with negative life events. Genetic influence on trait anxiety was predominantly mediated by negative life events; only LALA genotype-specific activation in the right MFG worked as a mediator in combination with negative life events. The present findings hint towards distinct mechanisms mediating the influence of 5-HTTLPR/rs25531 genotype on depressive symptoms and anxiety, with negative life events playing a crucial role in both phenotypes. With regard to depressive symptoms, however, this influence was only visible in combination with MFG activation, whereas, in anxiety, it was independent of brain activation.

Abstract
Background Considering the slow-acting properties of traditional antidepressants, an
important challenge in the field is the identification of early treatment
response biomarkers. Reduced cortical thickness has been reported in
neuroimaging studies of depression. However, little is known whether
antidepressants reverse this abnormality. In this brief report, we
investigated early cortical thickness changes following treatment with
sertraline compared to placebo. Methods Participants (n = 215) with major depressive disorder were randomized to a
selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, sertraline, or to placebo.
Structural magnetic resonance imaging scans were acquired at baseline and
one week following treatment. Response was defined as at least 50%
improvement in Hamilton rating scale for depression score at week 8. In a
vertex-wise approach, we examined the effects of treatment, response, and
treatment × response. Results Following correction for multiple comparisons, we found a significant effect
of treatment, with widespread increase in cortical thickness following
sertraline compared to placebo. Clusters with increased thickness were found
in the left medial prefrontal cortex, right medial and lateral prefrontal
cortex, and within the right parieto-temporal lobes. There were no
sertraline-induced cortical thinning, and no significant response effects or
treatment × response interactions. Conclusion Our findings suggest that cortical thickness abnormalities may be responsive
to antidepressant treatment. However, a relationship between these early
cortical changes and later treatment response was not demonstrated. Future
studies would be needed to investigate whether those early effects are
maintained at eight weeks and are associated with enhanced response.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Subthreshold depression (StD) is associated with substantial functional impairments due to depressive symptoms that do not fully meet the diagnosis of major depressive disorder (MDD). Its high incidence in the general population and debilitating symptoms has recently put it at the forefront of mood disorder research. AIM In this study we investigated common volumetric brain changes in both young and middle-aged StD patients. METHODS Two cohorts of StD patients, young and middle-aged, (n = 57) and matched controls (n = 76) underwent voxel-based morphometry (VBM). RESULTS VBM analysis found that: 1) compared with healthy controls, StD patients showed decreased gray matter volume (GMV) in the bilateral globus pallidus and precentral gyrus, as well as increased GMV in the left thalamus and right rostral anterior cingulate cortex/medial prefrontal cortex; 2) there is a significant association between Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale scores and the bilateral globus pallidus (negative) and left thalamus (positive); 3) there is no interaction between age (young vs. middle-age) and group (StD vs. controls). CONCLUSIONS Our findings indicate significant VBM brain changes in both young and middle-aged individuals with StD. Individuals with StD, regardless of age, may share common neural characteristics.

Abstract
It remains an ongoing investigation about how the neural activity alters with the diurnal rhythms in human brain. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (RS-fMRI) reflects spontaneous activities and/or the endogenous neurophysiological process of the human brain. In the present study, we applied the ReHo (regional homogeneity) and ALFF (amplitude of low frequency fluctuation) based on RS-fMRI to explore the regional differences in the spontaneous cerebral activities throughout the entire brain between the morning and evening sessions within a 24-h time cycle. Wide spread brain areas were found to exhibit diurnal variations, which may be attributed to the internal molecular systems regulated by clock genes, and the environmental factors including light-dark cycle, daily activities and homeostatic sleep drive. Notably, the diurnal variation of default mode network (DMN) suggests that there is an adaptation or compensation response within the subregions of DMN, implying a balance or a decoupling of regulation between these regions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Major depressive disorder (MDD) is twice more prevalent in females than in males. Yet, there have only been a few studies on the functional brain activity in female MDD patients and the detailed mechanisms underlying their neurobiology merit further investigations. In the present work, we used combined fMRI-MRS methods to investigate the altered intrinsic neuronal activity and its association with neurotransmitter concentration in female MDD patients. METHODS The whole brain amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (ALFF) analysis using resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was performed to explore the alteration of intrinsic neuronal signals in MDD females (n=11) compared with female healthy controls (n=11). With a specific interest in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) area, we quantified the concentration of amino acid neurotransmitters including GABA ((r-aminobutyric acid)), Glu (Glutamate), and Glx (Glutamate + Glutamine) using (1)H-MRS technology. Moreover, we conducted Pearson correlation analysis between the ALFF value and neurotransmitter concentration to find out the functional-biochemical relation in mPFC area. The relationship between the metabolites concentration and MDD symptomatology was also examined through Spearman correlation analysis. RESULTS We found that the female MDD patients showed increased neuronal spontaneous activity in left medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and left middle frontal cortex, with decreased ALFF level in right putamen and right middle temporal cortex (p<0.01, Alphasim corrected). The ALFF in mPFC was shown positively correlated with Glu concentration in female MDD patients (r=0.67, p=0.023). The Glu concentration in mPFC was positively correlated with patients HAMA scores (r=0.641, p=0.033). LIMITATIONS The relatively small sample size, metabolite information acquired only in mPFC and not all patients were unmedicated are the major limitations of our study. CONCLUSIONS Using combined fMRI-MRS methods, we found increased spontaneous neuronal activity was correlated with Glu concentration in mPFC of female MDD patients. Other regions including left middle frontal gyrus, right putamen and middle temporal gyrus also showed altered spontaneous neuronal activities. The abnormal intrinsic neuronal activities in fronto-cortical regions shed light on the pathogenesis underlying MDD females. The multimodal resting-state neuroimaging technique served as a useful tool for functional-biochemical investigation of MDD pathophysiology.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hippocampal/parahippocampal structural changes accompany major depressive disorders in the elderly, but whether subthreshold depression (StD) at an advanced age is also accompanied by similar changes in hippocampal/parahippocampal volumes is still unknown. By using voxel-based morphometry (VBM) analysis of the gray matter, we explored whether there are structural alterations of the hippocampus/parahippocampus and the correlations between its volume and participants' self-reported depressive symptoms. METHODS Participants were 19 community-dwelling older adults with StD assessed by the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale (CES-D) scores. We collected magnetic resonance images of their brain compared to images of 17 healthy aged-matched adults. We used VBM to analyze differences in gray matter volume (GMV) of the hippocampus/parahippocampus between the two groups. Moreover, we examined the correlation between the GMV of the hippocampus/parahippocampus and participants' self-reported depressive symptoms. RESULTS VBM revealed that elderly individuals with StD had substantially reduced volumes of the right parahippocampus compared to healthy controls. Furthermore, the volumes of the hippocampus/parahippocampus were significantly associated with participants' self-reported depressive symptoms in StD. CONCLUSIONS Gray matter volume alterations in the hippocampus/parahippocampus are correlated with subthreshold depression suggesting that early structural changes in the hippocampus/parahippocampus can constitute a risk indicator of depression.

Abstract
Subthreshold depression (StD) is a highly prevalent condition associated with increased service utilization and social morbidity. Nevertheless, due to limitations in current diagnostic systems that set the boundary for major depressive disorder (MDD), very few brain imaging studies on the neurobiology of StD have been carried out, and its underlying neurobiological mechanism remains unclear. In recent years, accumulating evidence suggests that the disruption of the default mode network (DMN), a network involved in self-referential processing, affective cognition, and emotion regulation, is involved in major depressive disorder. Using independent component analysis, we investigated resting-state default mode network (DMN) functional connectivity (FC) changes in two cohorts of StD patients with different age ranges (young and middle-aged, n = 57) as well as matched controls (n = 79). We found significant FC increase between the DMN and ventral striatum (key region in the reward network), in both cohorts of StD patients in comparison with controls. In addition, we also found the FC between the DMN and ventral striatum was positively and significantly associated with scores on the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), a measurement of depressive symptomatology. We speculate that this enhanced FC between the DMN and the ventral striatum may reflect a self-compensation to ameliorate the lowered reward function.

Abstract
Background: Depression and loneliness are prevalent and highly correlated phenomena among the elderly and influence both physical and mental health. Brain functional connectivity changes associated with depressive symptoms and loneliness are not fully understood. Methods: A cross-sectional functional MRI study was conducted among 85 non-demented male elders. Geriatric depression scale-short form (GDS) and loneliness scale were used to evaluate the severity of depressive symptoms and loneliness, respectively. Whole brain voxel-wise resting-state functional connectivity density (FCD) mapping was performed to delineate short-range FCD (SFCD) and long-range FCD (LFCD). Regional correlations between depressive symptoms or loneliness and SFCD or LFCD were examined using general linear model (GLM), with age incorporated as a covariate and depressive symptoms and loneliness as predictors. Results: Positive correlations between depressive symptoms and LFCD were observed in left rectal gyrus, left superior frontal gyrus, right supraorbital gyrus, and left inferior temporal gyrus. Positive correlations between depressive symptoms and SFCD were observed in left middle frontal gyrus, left superior frontal gyrus, bilateral superior medial frontal gyrus, left inferior temporal gyrus, and left middle occipital region. Positive correlations between SFCD and loneliness were centered over bilateral lingual gyrus. Conclusion: Depressive symptoms are associated with FCD changes over frontal and temporal regions, which may involve the cognitive control, affective regulation, and default mode networks. Loneliness is associated with FCD changes in bilateral lingual gyri that are known to be important in social cognition. Depressive symptoms and loneliness may be associated with different brain regions in non-demented elderly male.
