Abstract
Intramuscular fat (IMF) content is a predominant factor recognized to affect rabbit meat quality, directly impacting flavor, juiciness, and consumer preference. Despite its significance, the major interplay of genetic and epigenetic factors regulating IMF in rabbits remains largely unexplored. This review sheds light on this critical knowledge gap, offering valuable insights and future directions. We delve into the potential role of established candidate genes from other livestock (e.g. PPARγ, FABP4, and SCD) in rabbits, while exploring the identified novel genes of IMF in rabbits. Furthermore, we explored the quantitative trait loci studies in rabbit IMF and genomic selection approaches for improving IMF content in rabbits. Beyond genetics, this review unveils the exciting realm of epigenetic mechanisms modulating IMF deposition. We explored the potential of DNA methylation patterns, histone modifications, and non-coding RNA-mediation as fingerprints for selecting rabbits with desirable IMF levels. Additionally, we explored the possibility of manipulating the epigenetic landscape through nutraceuticals interventions to promote favorable IMF depositions. By comprehensively deciphering the genomic and epigenetic terrain of rabbit intramuscular fat regulation, this study aims to assess the existing knowledge regarding the genetic and epigenetic factors that control the deposition of intramuscular fat in rabbits. By doing so, we identified gaps in the current research, and suggested potential areas for further investigation that would enhance the quality of rabbit meat. This can enable breeders to develop targeted breeding strategies, optimize nutrition, and create innovative interventions to enhance the quality of rabbit meat, meet consumer demands and increase market competitiveness.

Abstract
Avian feather color is a fascinating trait, and the genetic mechanism of duck plumage formation is still in the preliminary stage. In this study, feather color of Liancheng White ducks was analyzed by determination of melanin content and RNA-seq analysis. In this research, 9 ducks from Mallards (n = 3), Liancheng White (n = 3) and Pekin ducks (n = 3) were used by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and Masson-Fontana staining to reveal the difference of feather melanin content. RNA-seq from 11 hair follicle tissues (1- and 8-wk-old) of Liancheng White ducks (n = 5) and Pekin ducks (n = 7) was used to analyze the candidate genes for the feather melanin synthesis, and Immunofluorescence experiment was used to show the protein expression in 6 black- and white-feathered ducks. Pectorale, skin, liver, fat, brain, heart, kidney, lung, spleen of an 8-wk-old black-feathered Mallard were collected for candidate gene expression. The results showed that the contents of feathers, beak, web melanin in Liancheng White ducks were higher than in Pekin ducks (p < 0.05). Melanin within hair follicles was located in the barb ridge and hair matrix of black feather duck, also we found that TYRP1, TYR, SOX10 genes were differentially expressed between Liancheng White and Pekin ducks (p < 0.05), and these genes were mainly expressed showed in duck skin tissues. This study revealed the unique feather color phenotype of Liancheng White duck shedding light on the transcriptome that underlies it.

Abstract
As societal progress elevates living standards, the focus on meat consumption has shifted from quantity to quality. In broiler production, optimizing meat quality has become paramount, prompting efforts to refine various meat attributes. Recent advancements in sequencing technologies have revealed the genome's complexity, surpassing previous conceptions. Through experimentation, numerous genetic elements have been linked to crucial meat quality traits in broiler chickens. This review synthesizes the current understanding of genetic determinants associated with meat quality attributes in broilers. Researchers have unveiled the pivotal insights detailed herein by employing diverse genomic methodologies such as QTL-based investigations, candidate gene studies, single-nucleotide polymorphism screening, genome-wide association studies, and RNA sequencing. These studies have identified numerous genes involved in broiler meat quality traits, including meat lightness (COL1A2 and ACAA2), meat yellowness (BCMO1 and GDPD5), fiber diameter (myostatin and LncIRS1), meat pH (PRDX4), tenderness (CAPN1), and intramuscular fat content (miR-24-3p and ANXA6). Consequently, a comprehensive exploration of these genetic elements is imperative to devise novel molecular markers and potential targets, promising to revolutionize strategies for enhancing broiler meat quality.

Abstract
Intramuscular fat (IMF) plays an important role in the tenderness, water-holding capacity, and flavor of chicken meat, which directly affect meat quality. In recent years, regulatory mechanisms underlying IMF deposition and the development of effective molecular markers have been hot topics in poultry genetic breeding. Therefore, this review focuses on the current understanding of regulatory mechanisms underlying IMF deposition in chickens, which were identified by multiple genomic approaches, including genome-wide association studies, whole transcriptome sequencing, proteome sequencing, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (HiC), DNA methylation sequencing, and m6A methylation sequencing. This review comprehensively and systematically describes genetic and epigenetic factors associated with IMF deposition, which provides a fundamental resource for biomarkers of IMF deposition and provides promising applications for genetic improvement of meat quality in chicken.
