Abstract
BACKGROUND The potential pairwise connections among high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), striatum-based circuits, and anhedonia in adolescent depression are not clear. This study aimed to explore whether hs-CRP levels in adolescents with depression influence anhedonia via alterations of striatum-based functional connectivity (FC). METHODS A total of 201 adolescents (92 with depressive episodes with anhedonia (anDE), 58 with DE without anhedonia (non-anDE), and 51 healthy controls (HCs)) underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and completed the anhedonia subscale of the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI). hs-CRP levels were measured from peripheral blood samples in all DE patients. RESULTS Compared with HCs, the anDE and non-anDE groups showed increased FC between the left dorsal caudate putamen (DCP_L) and bilateral Cerebellum Crus I, and decreased FC between the left ventral rostral putamen (VRP_L) and right parahippocampal cortex (PHC) (all p < 0.05). Only the non-anDE group exhibited increased FC between the right visual cortex (VC_R) and left cerebellum VI, VC_R, and right fusiform gyrus (FG), and the left visual cortex (VC_L) and right inferior temporal gyrus (ITG) compared to HCs (all p < 0.05). Compared to the non-anDE group, the anDE group showed reduced FC between the VC_R and left cerebellum VI and between the DCP_L and right superior frontal gyrus (SFG) (all p < 0.05). Multiple regression analysis revealed that DCP_L and right SFG FC negatively predicted anhedonia severity (β = -0.288, p = 0.007). Although hs-CRP levels had no direct effect, FC between the DCP_L and right SFG fully mediated the relationship between hs-CRP and anhedonia in the anDE group (effect = 0.184, Bootstrapping 95 % CI = 0.0156, 0.436). CONCLUSION The findings suggest that hs-CRP influences anhedonia through a fully mediated pathway involving alterations in the frontostriatal network, contributing to a greater understanding of the neurobiological mechanisms underlying anhedonia.

Abstract
Objective Studies have shown associations between Body Mass Index (BMI), High-Sensitivity C-reactive protein (HSCRP), and depressive symptoms(DP). However, the complex relationship between them remains uncertain. The objective of this research is to examine the correlation between them in a substantial sample that is representative of the national level. Methods Our analysis was based on the 2015-2016National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).DP was measured by the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Using multivariable logistic regression analysis and stratified analysis, we examined the relationship between BMI, HSCRP, and DP. We applied generalized additive models to explore the non-linear relationships among variables. Results This study included a total of 4834 participants. The results revealed that BMI (P=0.002) and HSCRP (P=0.008) were risk factors for DP. The relationship between BMI and DP (P=0.035), BMI and HSCRP (P<0.001) were non-linear. The nonlinear association between HSCRP and DP (P=0.031), BMI and DP (P=9e-04) is significant in females when stratified by gender. No nonlinear association was found between BMI and DP (P =0.677) and between HSCRP and DP (P =0.439) in males. The results of the interaction test reveal a significant interaction between HSCRP and gender. Conclusions Research has found both BMI and HSCRP are risk factors for DP and the relationship between them was non-linear. The nonlinear associations between BMI and DP, as well as between HSCRP and DP, are gender-dependent.

Abstract
A fear reaction is fundamental for survival and naturally activates the adrenergic system, prompting an acute and vital flight-or-fight response. While sustained stress is associated with unhealthy low-grade inflammation, more acute and transient activation of the adrenergic system has been suggested to impact the immune system and subsequently attenuate low-grade inflammation, e.g. through cold exposure or hyperventilation. Voluntary exposure to frightening stimuli, such as scary entertainment, is another reliable activator of the adrenergic system, yet its impact on the immune system and low-grade inflammation is unknown. The objectives of this study are to i. assess proportional changes of participants with low-grade inflammation at and three days after a voluntary frightening event, and ii. explore mean value alterations in inflammatory markers and immune cells over time. We recruited adult participants among visitors to a real-life intense frightening haunted house attraction, located in Vejle, Denmark. The overall fright potential of the exposure was estimated through heart rate (HR) monitoring and self-reported levels of fear. Low-grade inflammation (defined as high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) > 3 mg/L)) and immune cells (subtypes of leukocytes) were measured from blood samples immediately before, immediately after, and three days after the haunted house event. A total of 113 participants, 69 females (61.1 %), and 44 males (38.9 %), with a mean age of 29.7 (SD 10.1) were included in the analyses. The average duration of exposure was 50 min and 51 s, while the mean HR throughout the event was 111.1 BPM (mean SD 10.1), and the mean subjective reported scare level was 5.4 (SD 1.9) on a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 9. Twenty-two participants exhibited low-grade inflammation (hs-CRP > 3 mg/L) at the event, with 10 participants normalizing their hs-CRP levels three days post-event. Seven participants had normal hs-CRP levels at the event, but low-grade inflammation three days post-event. Thus, we found no proportional difference between participants with low-grade inflammation at the event (19.5 %) and three days after the event (16.8 %) (diff. -2.7 %; 95 % CI: -10.7 to 5.4, p = 0.47). For the 22 participants exhibiting low-grade inflammation at the event, 18 participants (82 %) decreased their hs-CRP levels, with a mean decrease in hs-CRP from 5.7 mg/L pre-event to 3.7 mg/L three days post-event (diff. -2.0, 95 % CI: -3.2 to -0.7, p = 0.003). Supporting an overall attenuation of inflammation, total leukocytes and lymphocytes decreased for both participants with low-grade inflammation and with normal inflammatory levels, when comparing levels pre- and three days post-event, although all mean levels remained within the normal range. Conclusively, we find no proportional differences in participants exhibiting low-grade inflammation (hs-CRP > 3) when comparing levels at and three days after exposure to a voluntary frightening event. However, explorative analyses suggest that recreational fear exposure may attenuate immune cells across the entire cohort (N = 113) and decrease hs-CRP levels for participants who exhibit low-grade inflammation at the event (N = 22).

Abstract
The high comorbidity of major depressive disorder (MDD) with other diseases has been well-documented. However, the pairwise causal connections for MDD comorbid networks are poorly characterized. We performed Phenome-wide Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses to explore bidirectional causal associations between MDD (N = 807,553) and 877 common diseases from FinnGen datasets (N = 377,277). The inverse variance weighting method was the primary technique, and other methods (weighted median and MR-Egger) were used for sensitivity analyses. Our MR analyses showed that the genetic liability to MDD is causally associated with the risks of 324 disease phenotypes (average b: 0.339), including 46 psychiatric and behavioral disorders (average b: 0.618), 18 neurological diseases (average b: 0.348), 44 respiratory diseases (average b: 0.345), 40 digestive diseases (average b: 0.281), 18 circulatory diseases (average b: 0.237), 37 genitourinary diseases (average b: 0.271), 66 musculoskeletal and connective diseases (average b: 0.326), 22 endocrine diseases (average b: 0.302), and others. In a reverse analysis, a total of 51 genetic components predisposing to various diseases were causally associated with MDD risk (average b: 0.086), including 5 infectious diseases (average b: 0.056), 11 neurological diseases (average b: 0.106), 14 oncological diseases (average b: 0.108), and 5 psychiatric and behavioral disorders (average b: 0.114). Bidirectional causal associations were identified between MDD and 15 diseases. For most MR analyses, little evidence of heterogeneity and pleiotropy was detected. Our findings confirmed the extensive and significant causal role of genetic predisposition to MDD in contributing to human disease phenotypes, which were more pronounced than those seen in the reverse analysis of the causal influences of other diseases on MDD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The effect of weekend catch-up sleep (WCS) on depressive symptoms is inconsistent among different populations, with limited evidence in Americans. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the association between WCS and depressive symptoms in American adults. METHODS We recruited 7719 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2017-2020. Information on sleep duration and depressive symptoms were assessed by several self-reported questions and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), respectively. Then, WCS duration was calculated as weekend sleep duration minus weekday sleep duration, and WCS was further defined as WCS duration >0 h. Survey designed regression analyses were used to assess the association of WCS and depressive symptoms. RESULTS In fully adjusted multivariate logistic regression models, the odds ratio (95 % confidence interval) for depressive symptoms and the β (95 % confidence interval) for PHQ-9 score in response to WCS were 0.746 (0.462, 1.204; P = 0.218) and -0.429 (-0.900, 0.042; P = 0.073), respectively. Besides, the smooth relationship presented L-shaped, and only WCS duration of 0-2 h was statistically significantly associated with depressive symptoms or PHQ-9 score. Subgroup analyses showed that the negative associations were stronger among men, adults younger than 65 years, and those with short weekday sleep duration (P for interaction <0.05). LIMITATIONS The cross-sectional design limits the capability for causal relationship between WCS and depressive symptoms. CONCLUSIONS This study suggests that moderate WCS is associated with reduced odds of depressive symptoms, which provides additional epidemiological evidence for the effects of sleep on depressive symptoms.

Abstract
Sedentary behavior (SB) and physical activity (PA) exert opposing effects on inflammatory markers. This study examined the associations of a more subdivided combination of PA and SB with high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP). Using the 2014-2019 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, this cross-sectional study analyzed 20,541 adults. The independent variables were SB, defined as ≥10 h of sitting per day, and three domains of PA: occupational PA (OPA) during work, leisure-time PA (LPA) during leisure time, and transportation PA (TPA) or active commuting. The dependent variable was hs-CRP ≥ 1.0 mg/L. Besides exploring the individual association of SB and each PA with hs-CRP, the combined association of SB and each PA with hs-CRP was also examined using multiple logistic regression. The analyses indicated that concurrent exposure to SB and OPA (odds ratio [OR] 1.36, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.02-1.80) significantly raised the likelihood of increased hs-CRP, while SB without LPA (OR 1.26, 95% CI 1.11-1.41) or TPA (OR 1.19, 95% CI 1.08-1.31) significantly increased risk of higher hs-CRP, compared to their respective reference. The absence of non-occupational PA such as LPA or TPA combined with SB was associated with the increased hs-CRP risk, whereas OPA increased the risk when present concurrently with SB. Reducing SB and OPA while increasing LPA and TPA, is necessary to reduce inflammatory conditions.

Abstract
Background and aim High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) is a sensitive measure of low-grade inflammation and appears superior to conventional blood tests in assessing cardiovascular disease. The purpose of this investigation was to explore the link between high-sensitivity CRP and depressive symptoms among adults. Methods and results Multiple logistic regression and smoothed curve fitting were used to investigate the association between hs-CRP and depressive symptoms based on data from the, 2017-2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Subgroup analyses and interaction tests were used to assess the stability of this relationship across populations. The study comprised 6,293 non-clinical participants, which included 549 individuals with depressive symptoms. The prevalence of depressive symptoms was found to increase with increasing levels of hs-CRP. This trend persisted even after quartetting hs-CRP levels. In the fully adjusted model, each unit increase in hs-CRP was associated with a 10% increase in the odds of depressive symptoms (OR=1.10,95%CI:1.01-1.21). Participants in the highest quartile of hs-CRP had a 39% higher prevalence of depressive symptoms compared to those in the lowest quartile (OR=1.39,95%CI:1.01-1.92). Additionally, this positive correlation was more pronounced in men. Conclusions In adult Americans, there exists a positive association between elevated hs-CRP levels and depressive symptoms, with a more prominent manifestation of this association observed in males.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Increasing evidence suggests a positive association between insulin resistance (IR) and depression. However, whether sex-or body mass index-specific differences exist remains controversial, and only few studies have analyzed specific symptom domains. Thus, the present study aimed to analyze the association between IR and depressive symptom domains and to clarify the effects of sex and body mass index. METHODS The study sample comprised 4007 participants, aged 19-79, from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Study 2020. Participants completed health interviews and examinations, providing data on circulating insulin and glucose levels, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and related covariates. IR was calculated using the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance. Associations between IR and PHQ-9 were analyzed using negative binomial regression with adjustments for the complex survey design. RESULTS The association between log-transformed IR and PHQ-9 total scores was statistically significant (incidence rate ratio [IRR] = 1.17, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.07-1.29, p = 0.001). Only body mass index specific differences were statistically significant, as the association was only significant in those without obesity (IRR = 1.21, 95% CI = 1.06-1.38, p = 0.005). IR was associated with cognitive/affective (IRR = 1.23, 95% CI = 1.08-1.41, p = 0.002) and somatic (IRR = 1.14, 95% CI = 1.04-1.25, p = 0.005) depressive symptom domains. Sensitivity analyses revealed similar results. CONCLUSIONS IR was positively associated with cognitive/affective and somatic depressive symptoms in non-obese individuals.

Abstract
Background High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) is an inflammatory marker that has been suggested as a predictor of cardiovascular diseases. High glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels and overweight/obesity are independently associated with elevated hs-CRP; meanwhile, high HbA1c levels are frequently accompanied by overweight or obesity. However, their joint effect on elevated hs-CRP levels has not been well-established. Therefore, we evaluated whether overweight/obesity modified the association between high HbA1c levels and elevated hs-CRP. Methods Based on cross-sectional data from the Chinese Urban Adults Diet and Health Study (CUADHS) in 2016, we included 1,630 adults aged 18-75 years (mean age 50.16 years and 33.6% male). Elevated hs-CRP was defined as serum hs-CRP ≥ 3 and <10 mg/L. The interactive effects of BMI and HbA1c levels on the risk of elevated hs-CRP levels were calculated by using multiple logistic regression models, followed by strata-specific analyses. Results Individuals with elevated hs-CRP had a higher rate of HbA1c level than those without elevated (25.3 vs. 11.3%, P < 0.001), as well as a higher rate of overweight/obesity (67.1 vs. 43.5%, P < 0.001). Higher HbA1c levels were independently associated with an increased risk of elevated hs-CRP [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 2.31, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.47, 3.65], as well as overweight/obesity with the risk of elevated hs-CRP (aOR = .31, 95% confidenc-3.73). Furthermore, overweight/obesity showed a significant synergistic effect on high HbA1c levels with a higher aOR of 5.25 (2.77, 9.95) (Pinteraction < 0.001). This synergistic effect was more prominent when stratified by age (in 18-44 years old, aOR, 95% CI = 30.90, 4.40-236.47 for interaction vs. 6.46, 1.38-30.23 for high HbA1c only) and gender (in women, aOR, 95% CI = 8.33, 3.80-18.23 for interaction vs. 2.46,1.38-4.40 for high HbA1c only). Conclusion There are synergistic effects of high HbA1c levels and overweight/obesity on the risk of elevated hs-CRP in Chinese adults, with more significant effects in adults aged 18-44 years or females. Intervention strategies for preventing high blood glucose levels and body weight simultaneously may be important for reducing hs-CRP-related diseases. Further studies are needed to confirm this finding in other populations, and its molecular mechanisms need to be elucidated.

Abstract
Depression is associated with low quality of life and increased health burdens for middle-aged and older adults in resource-limited settings. Although inflammation plays an etiological role in the development and progression of depression, the directionality of the inflammation-depression relationship is unclear, especially in non-Western populations. To examine this relationship among community-dwelling Chinese middle-aged and older adults, we obtained data from the 2011, 2013, and 2015 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). The participants were aged 45 years or above at baseline in 2011 and completed the follow-up survey in 2013 and 2015. Depressive symptoms were measured using the 10-item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CESD-10), and the C-reactive protein (CRP) level was used to measure individual inflammation levels. Cross-lagged regression analyses examined the inflammation-depression relationship. Cross-group analyses were performed to test for model invariance across the sexes. Pearson's correlations revealed no concurrent correlations between depression and CRP for both 2011 and 2015 (ps > 0.05, ranging 0.07-0.36) studies. Cross-lagged regression path analyses revealed that the paths from baseline CRP to depression in 2013 (ßstd = -0.01, p = 0.80), from baseline CRP to depression in 2015 (ßstd = 0.02, p = 0.47), from baseline depression to CRP in 2015 (ßstd = -0.02, p = 0.40), and from depression at 2013 to CRP in 2015 (ßstd = 0.03, p = 0.31) were not statistically significant. Additionally, the autoregressive model did not vary across the sexes (△χ 2 = 78.75, df = 54, p = 0.02, △ comparative fit index (CFI) <0.01). We failed to find a bidirectional association between the CRP levels and depressive symptoms in our sample.

Abstract
RESEARCH QUESTION Is low-grade inflammation, detected by C-reactive protein (CRP), a marker of IVF outcome addressing both blastocyst quality and pregnancy outcome? DESIGN This sub-study of a multicentre randomized controlled trial included 440 women undergoing IVF treatment with a gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist protocol. Serum CRP was measured on cycle day 2-3 (baseline) and on the day of ovulation triggering. The association between CRP concentrations and reproductive outcomes (number of retrieved oocytes, number of good-quality blastocysts, pregnancy, pregnancy loss and live birth), were analysed, adjusting for relevant confounders. RESULTS A negative association was found between higher baseline CRP concentrations and live birth rate (odds ratio [OR] 0.77, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.62-0.96, P = 0.02) and higher CRP concentrations at baseline were associated with pregnancy loss among women who conceived (OR 1.37, 95% CI 1.07-1.76, P = 0.01). When testing for a specific cut-off, CRP concentrations above 2.34 (the highest quartile) were more likely to be associated with pregnancy loss (P = 0.02) and a lower chance of live birth (P = 0.04) compared with the lowest quartile. No associations were found between CRP concentrations and pregnancy outcomes on the day of ovulation triggering, and there were no associations between CRP concentrations and the number of good-quality blastocysts. CONCLUSIONS Higher CRP concentrations at cycle day 2-3, before starting ovarian stimulation, are negatively associated with chance of live birth, possibly because of an increased risk of pregnancy loss. No association was found between the number of good-quality blastocysts and CRP concentration. More studies are needed to investigate the impact of low-grade inflammation.

Abstract
The etiopathogenesis of depression is not entirely understood. Several studies have investigated the role of inflammation in major depressive disorder. The present work aims to review the literature on the association between C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and depression. A systematic review was performed for the topics of ‘CRP’ and ‘depression’ using the PubMed database from inception to December 2021. Fifty-six studies were identified and included in the review. Evidence suggested the presence of dysregulation in the inflammation system in individuals with depression. In most studies, higher blood CRP levels were associated with greater symptom severity, a specific pattern of depressive symptoms, and a worse response to treatment. Moreover, about one-third of depressed patients showed a low-grade inflammatory state, suggesting the presence of a different major depressive disorder (MDD) subgroup with a distinct etiopathogenesis, clinical course, treatment response, and prognosis, which could benefit from monitoring of CRP levels and might potentially respond to anti-inflammatory treatments. This work provides robust evidence about the potential role of CRP and its blood levels in depressive disorders. These findings can be relevant to developing new therapeutic strategies and better understanding if CRP may be considered a valuable biomarker for depression.

Abstract
Objective The relationship among physical functional decline, low-grade inflammation, and depression remains unclear. The aim of this study was to examine the association between hand grip strength (HGS) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in a large sample with depression. Methods This study used data obtained from a representative Korean sample of 9,402 people who participated in the seventh Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Physical function was assessed using a digital grip strength dynamometer. Depression was identified using a cutoff of 5 on the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and high hs-CPR level was defined as ≥ 3.0 mg/L. Results In older adults (≥ 60 years) with depression, 43.8% of those with high hs-CRP levels had low HGS, compared to 21.8% of those with hs-CRP levels < 3.0 mg/L (p = 0.002). Multivariate analysis revealed that, after adjustments for potentially confounding factors, high hs-CRP was independently associated with lower HGS (B = −2.25; 95% confidence interval = −4.49 to −0.02) in older adults with depression, but not in younger or middle-aged adults with depression. Conclusion These findings suggest a significant correlation between physical functional decline and low-grade inflammation in older adults with depression.

Abstract
Objective We aimed to investigate the association between low-grade inflammation as indicated by high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) level and organizational factors, such as work hours and shift work. Methods We evaluated 7470 young and middle-aged workers who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys from 2015-2018. Work hours were determined from self-reported questionnaires. Shift work was defined as a non-daytime fixed work schedule. An interaction effect between shift work and long work hours on the hsCRP level was estimated using relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI) and attributable proportion (AP) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results Increased hsCRP levels were prevalent in 25.2% of the study population. There was a significant association between long work hours and increased hsCRP, especially among middle-aged men [odds ratio (OR) 1.50 (95% CI 1.20-1.87) for moderately increased hsCRP and OR 1.62 (95% CI 1.14-2.30) for highly increased hsCRP]. There was a significant interaction effect between long work hours and shift work on increased hsCRP among middle-aged workers. The RERI were 0.03 (95% CI 0.02-0.04) and 0.56 (95% CI 0.45-0.68) among middle-aged men and women, respectively. The AP were 0.02 (95% CI 0.01-0.03) and 0.36 (95% CI 0.31-0.40) among middle-aged men and women, respectively. Conclusion There was no significant association between shift work and the level of hsCRP. Long work hours were related to low-grade inflammatory processes, but only in middle-aged workers. There was an interaction effect between long work hours and shift work for increased hsCRP, especially in middle-aged women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We examined cross-sectional associations between depression and both inflammatory markers and fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO). METHODS This cross-sectional study is a secondary analysis of the data of the Iwaki Health Promotion Project 2016 (1,148 subjects). We analyzed the subjects' characteristics and laboratory data including plasma interleukin (IL)-6, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and FeNO. The subjects with Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale scores ≥16 were assigned to the depression group. We performed a multivariate logistic regression analysis to determine whether inflammatory markers and FeNO were associated with depression. RESULTS We assessed 1,099 subjects (430 males, 669 females). The depression group was 237 subjects (21.5%) [84 males (19.5%), 153 females (22.9%)]. The non-depression group was 862 subjects (346 males and 516 females). There were no significant differences in IL-6, hs-CRP, or FeNO between both groups. However, the multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that lower FeNO was significantly associated with depression in males after adjusting for possible confounding factors (age, BMI, comorbidities, high-sensitivity troponin T, FEV1%, asthma, antidepressant use, smoker and alcohol drinker) (per 1 bpm increase, OR: 0.982; 95%CI: 0.967-0.998; p = 0.032). CONCLUSION Our findings indicate that lower FeNO may be associated with depression in males.

Abstract
A large body of evidence suggests a relationship between depression and coronary heart disease (CHD). Angiotensin-Ⅱ (Ang-Ⅱ) and angiotensin-(1-7) [Ang-(1-7)] are considered to exert biological effects in both conditions. Here, we aimed to determine the role of Ang-Ⅱ and Ang-(1-7) in the occurrence of comorbid depression in patients with CHD. Our study included 214 CHD patients and 100 matched healthy controls. Serum Ang-Ⅱ and Ang-(1-7) levels were assessed by ELISA, and the depression symptoms were evaluated by the nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). Linear regression and correlation analyses were used to estimate the associations between PHQ-9 scores and Ang-Ⅱ and Ang-(1-7) serum levels. Six single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) spanning the angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and MAS1 genes were genotyped. The associations between SNPs and depression risk in CHD patients were examined using logistic regression analysis with adjustment for age and gender. Decreased Ang-(1-7) (P < 0.05) and an elevated Ang-Ⅱ/Ang-(1-7) ratio (P < 0.01) were observed in CHD patients with depression compared to CHD patients without depression. PHQ-9 scores were negatively correlated with Ang-(1-7) level (r=-0.44, P < 0.01) and positively correlated with the Ang-Ⅱ/Ang-(1-7) ratio (r = 0.33, P < 0.05). Furthermore, carriers of risk allele T for CHD with depression had significantly higher PHQ-9 scores (P < 0.05), lower Ang-(1-7) level (P < 0.01), and higher Ang-Ⅱ/Ang-(1-7) ratio (P < 0.05) than those CC carriers. Collectively, our results firstly showed that Ang-(1-7) serum level in CHD patients may protect against comorbid depression. Moreover, the imbalance between Ang-Ⅱ and Ang-(1-7) may contribute to depression in CHD patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The complement system is involved in multiple biological processes including inflammation, synaptic pruning, and apoptosis. However, it is not well understood whether peripheral complement C1q levels are altered in major depressive disorder (MDD) patients. OBJECTIVE This study aimed at assessing serum levels of complement C1q in MDD patients using a cross-sectional, case-control design. Also, the correlations between complement C1q and inflammation and lipid profile in patients with MDD were also assessed. METHODS Serum complement C1q levels were measured by ADVIA 2400 biochemical analyzer in 160 patients with MDD diagnosed using International Classification of Diseases-10 criteria (ICD-10) and were compared with those of 159 healthy controls between January 2017 to May 2019. Then correlation analysis was carried out between the level of serum complement C1q among MDD patients with inflammation and lipid profile. RESULTS Serum complement C1q levels were higher in MDD patients than in controls (P < .0001) and the difference between the two groups was small (r = 0.239 [0.128 to 0.350]). We found that serum complement C1q concentrations was positively correlated with HAMD-24 score (r = 0.234, P = .003) and log hs-CRP (r = 0.334, P < .001). CONCLUSION We found serum complement C1q levels were significantly higher in MDD patients than in controls. The current results suggest that the dysfunction of complement C1q may be involved in the pathophysiology of MDD.

Abstract
Serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) and serum uric acid (SUA) are biomarkers that predict chronic inflammation and cardiovascular dysfunction. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the association between sleep duration, hsCRP, and SUA in Korean women. Cross-sectional data from the Seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey was analyzed. The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for an association between higher hsCRP (>2.0 mg/L) or higher SUA (>5.6 mg/dL) and sleep duration were calculated using multiple logistic regression analyses after adjusting for potential confounders. In total, 6151 women were included in the analysis. There was a U-shaped relationship between continuous sleep duration, hsCRP, and SUA. Compared to those who slept for 7-8 h, the ORs (95% CIs) for higher hsCRP were 1.43 (0.95-2.16) in short sleepers and 1.64 (1.09-2.48) in long sleepers after adjusting for confounders. Compared with those who slept for 7-8 h, the ORs (95% CIs) for higher SUA were 1.54 (1.04-2.26) in short sleepers and 1.94 (1.27-2.96) in long sleepers after adjusting for confounders. We found a U-shaped association between sleep duration, hsCRP, and SUA in Korean women. 7-8 h sleep was associated with lower level of hsCRP and SUA in Korean women.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE There is increasing evidence of an inverse association between serum vitamin D concentrations and depression, but whether there are sex-specific differences remains controversial. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the association between serum vitamin D concentrations and specific domains of depressive symptoms by each sex in the Korean general population. METHODS The study sample comprised 820 men and 916 women, aged from 19 to 76, who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2014. Participants completed health interviews and health examinations providing data of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin [25(OH)D] concentrations, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and certain covariates. Associations were analyzed using negative binomial regression. RESULTS After adjusting for various covariates, the association between log-transformed serum 25(OH)D concentrations and total PHQ-9 scores was statistically significant {incidence rate ratio [IRR] = 0.74 [95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.59-0.93]} only in men. Additionally, the association between log-transformed serum 25(OH)D concentrations and the PHQ-9 cognitive/affective subscore was statistically significant [IRR = 0.56 (95% CI = 0.40-0.80)] only in men. There was no association for the somatic subscore. CONCLUSIONS Serum vitamin D levels were inversely associated with cognitive/affective depressive symptoms only in men.
