Centering the Voices of Black Parasitologists During America's Racial Awakening

Designing equity, diversity, and inclusion training for postgraduate parasitologists

Equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) have received increased attention in the sciences, with increasing expectation that students will receive formal training in this area. However, compared with other biosciences, little guidance has been produced for parasitology educators. Therefore, this article presents the contents and evaluation of pilot training designed for postgraduates.

PEERing forward in parasitology

PEERs in Parasitology (PiP) is a global scientific grassroots organization founded in 2021 to promote equity and inclusion for persons (currently and) historically excluded from science because of ethnicity and/or race. The article details systemic obstacles PEER parasitologists face and current and future strategies of PiP to overcome them.

Unexplored Challenges of Minoritized Microbiologists in Academia

The scientific community is making significant efforts to be inclusive and to promote diversity and equity. The microbial sciences are not the exception, and organizations, such as the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), are implementing strategic plans to advance these initiatives. However, one unexplored topic is whether the recruitment of minoritized microbiologists should use tailored programs for the success of trainees and faculty. Some challenges and opportunities are presented for consideration while developing recruitment, retention, and advancement programs in the microbial sciences.
