Abstract
PURPOSE This study aims to investigate the effect of high-flux membrane hemodialysis on total prostate-specific antigen (tPSA) serum levels in hemodialysis patients and to evaluate the clinical significance of any observed changes. METHODS A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted involving 75 hemodialysis patients at An-Najah National University Hospital. tPSA and hematocrit (Hct) serum levels were measured before and after one hemodialysis session. The correlation between changes in tPSA and Hct levels was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). RESULTS The mean age of the patients was 54.25 ± 15.27 years, with a mean hemodialysis duration of 40 ± 38 months. The mean tPSA levels before and after hemodialysis were 0.95 ± 0.81 ng/ml and 1.15 ± 0.96 ng/ml, respectively. Significant increases were observed in both tPSA (t = -3.264, p = 0.002) and Hct levels (t = -7.861, p < 0.001). The percentage changes in tPSA and Hct were 20% and 12%, respectively, with no significant correlation between the changes (r = 0.152, p = 0.215). CONCLUSIONS Hemodialysis significantly elevates tPSA serum levels; however, no significant correlation was found between changes in tPSA and Hct. None of the patients showed clinically significant elevations in tPSA that would necessitate prostate biopsy. Therefore, high-flux membrane hemodialysis does not appear to compromise the diagnostic value of tPSA in hemodialysis patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To define guidelines for the management of localized prostate cancer (PCa) in kidney transplant (KTx) candidates and recipients. METHOD A systematic review (Medline) of the literature was conducted by the CTAFU to report prostate cancer epidemiology, screening, diagnosis and management in KTx candidates and recipients with the corresponding level of evidence. RESULTS KTx recipients are at similar risk for PCa as general population. Thus, PCa screening in this setting is defined according to global French guidelines from CCAFU. Systematic screening is proposed in candidates for renal transplant over 50 y-o. PCa diagnosis is based on prostate biopsies performed after multiparametric MRI and preventive antibiotics. CCAFU guidelines remain applicable for PCa treatment in KTx recipients with some specificities, especially regarding lymph nodes management. Treatment options in candidates for KTx need to integrate waiting time and access to transplantation. Current data allows the CTAFU to propose mandatory waiting times after PCa treatment in KTx candidates with a weak level of evidence. CONCLUSION These French recommendations should contribute to improve PCa management in KTx recipients and candidates, integrating oncological objectives with access to transplantation.

Abstract
Arsenic and selenium elements play extremely important roles in organisms. Too high As concentration in blood may lead to functional disorders within organs, including cancer. Arsenic is designated as a Group 1 human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer that has established causal role of arsenic in cancers of the urinary bladder, lung, and skin in humans. In contrast, Se is believed to be the antioxidant trace element that is important in the biological defense against oxidative damage. We tested the hypothesis that immunosuppressive treatment based on mycophenolate mofetil (MMF), that is one of the most commonly used drug by renal transplant recipients, affects arsenic and selenium concentration in erythrocytes of renal transplant recipients. Current research was undertaken due to the fact that there are few studies on the concentration of chemical elements in the erythrocytes in kidney patients receiving immunosuppressive drugs. Monitoring of the concentration of chemical elements in the blood in patients who underwent kidney transplantation could be helpful, since chemical elements play an important role in many biological processes and it seems to be crucial in the prevention of cancer to which renal transplant recipients are more often exposed.The material consisted of blood from 115 renal transplant recipients of the Department of Nephrology, Transplantology, and Internal Medicine of Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 2, Pomeranian Medical University, in the city of Szczecin in northwestern Poland. Arsenic and selenium levels in erythrocytes were quantified by inductively coupled mass spectroscopy.Men MMF+ had significantly higher As concentration than men MMF-. Se concentration was significantly higher in younger patients compared with older patients. The patients with lower creatinine level who used MMF had significantly higher As than MMF- patients. Patients whose therapy was based on MMF, cyclosporine A and glucocorticosteroids exhibited significantly higher concentration of As compared with patients whose regimen was based on MMF, tacrolimus, and glucocorticosteroids.This is the first study that demonstrates that regimen based on mycophenolate mofetil affects As and Se concentrations in erythrocytes in renal transplant recipients.
