Abstract
Background The impact of Chlamydia trachomatis on semen quality has been studied with varied results. Aim To determine the prevalence of antichlamydial antibodies and their relationship with sperm quality among male partners of infertile couples in Enugu, South-East Nigeria. Materials and Methods It was a cross-sectional study of infertile male partners of couples attending infertility clinics at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu, Nigeria. Their sera were assayed for antichlamydial antibodies, and semen analysis and culture were done for each participant. Results Two hundred and eighty-two (282) male partners of infertile couples were studied. Infertility was commoner among participants aged 40 years or more (45.1%) and was mainly of the "primary type" (62.1%). Antichlamydia antibody was detected in 156 (55.3%) participants and was significantly associated with sperm quality (P = 002; OR = 2.294; 95% CI = 1.36-3.88). Overall, 81 (28.7%) had abnormal sperm quality. The sperm count, progressive motility, and vitality were significantly lower in participants with abnormal sperm quality than those with normal sperm quality (P < 0.001) while morphology, volume, and liquefaction time did not differ significantly (P > 0.05). Staphylococcus aureus was the predominant organism isolated from culture (122/282, 43.3%) while Streptococcus species were the least (4/262, 1.4%). There was significantly more Staphylococcus aureus isolated from the semen of participants that were seropositive to antichlamydial antibodies than those that were seronegative (80/156, 51.3% vs. 42/126, 33.3%; OR = 2.105; 95% CI = 1.30-3.42; P = 0.003). Conclusion The prevalence of antichlamydial antibodies among male partners of infertile couples in Enugu, Nigeria is high and there is a significant association with sperm quality, sperm count, and bacterial isolates in seminal culture. Male partners of infertile couples in Enugu should be screened for antichlamydial antibodies and appropriate treatment offered wherever indicated. There is a need for increased public awareness and advocacy campaigns on the impact of Chlamydia infection on male factor infertility. This primary preventive measure may help in reducing the burden of Chlamydia infection and male factor infertility.

Abstract
Dysfunction at various levels of spermatogenesis (SD) is one of the important causes of infertility in men of reproductive age and requires advanced treatment strategies. Increasing evidence suggests that the therapeutic effects of echinacoside (ECH) mainly depend on their capacity to inhibit cell death. This study aimed to explore the therapeutic potential of ECH in SD rat models. Treatment with ECH reverted the morphological changes observed in testes with spermatogenesis dysfunction. It improved total sperm number, decreased the sperm deformity rate, and increased the sperm forward motility rate. The level of glutathione (GSH) was significantly higher in ECH-treated mice, whereas the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and SOD activities were improved compared with those in the spermatogenesis dysfunction model. Moreover, the increased expression of p38 and JNK was partially reversed by ECH. The number of normal TM3 cells increased gradually in an Echinacea dosage-dependent manner, suggesting that ECH promoted the proliferation of TM3 cells. In addition, treatment with ECH partially reversed the increased expression of p38 and JNK in TM3 cells. ECH protects against oxidative stress damage by activating antioxidant enzymes and MAPK signaling-related factors (p38 and JNK). It suggested that treatment with ECH alleviated spermatogenetic dysfunction of testes in male mice and it could be a promising strategy for patients suffering severe SD.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION infertility in couples has become a public health problem in recent years. It can be related to a problem in the male, female or both. Men infertility accounts for 40% of cases. In Morocco, most studies have focused on the causes and risk factors for male infertility. The purpose of our study was to assess the prevalence of male infertility and semen parameters in infertile men or in men at high risk of developing infertility in a tertiary hospital in Rabat. METHODS we conducted an analysis of 482 patients referred for evaluation of infertility in the couple or as part of preoperative assessment of varicocele or testicular ectopia. Demographic data, risk factors for infertility, primary or secondary infertility were recorded for each patient. Semen parameters were assessed and interpreted according to WHO standards updated in 2010 based on studies of factors associated with their disturbance. RESULTS the average age of patients was 35.35±8.81 years. Primary infertility was found in 61.8% of cases. The most common risk factors for infertility were tobacco followed by varicocele and infection. Spermogram was altered in 53.1% of cases. The most common abnormality was sperm vitality issues (36.9%) followed by spermatic concentration (29.7%) and morphology (29.3%). Age was the unique factor which had a significant impact on spermogram (p=0.002). Abnormalities in mobility were detected in patients ≥31 years, sperm vitality issues in patients aged 34 years, abnormalities in morphology in patients aged 35 years and concentration in patients aged 37 years. Azoospermia was found in 16.4% of cases and was mainly associated with primary infertility. Oligo-astheno-teratozoospermia was the most common association (26.2%). CONCLUSION male infertility is common in our context. The major risk factor is age. Mobility is the earliest parameter achieved.

Abstract
The epididymis is an important male accessory sex organ where sperm motility and fertilization ability develop. When spermatozoa carrying foreign antigens enter the epididymis, the epididymis shows "immune privilege" to tolerate them. It is well-known that a tolerogenic environment exists in the caput epididymis, while pro-inflammatory circumstances prefer the cauda epididymis. This meticulously regulated immune environment not only protects spermatozoa from autoimmunity but also defends spermatozoa against pathogenic damage. Epididymitis is one of the common causes of male infertility. Up to 40% of patients suffer from permanent oligospermia or azoospermia. This is related to the immune characteristics of the epididymis itself. Moreover, epididymitis induced by different pathogenic microbial infections has different characteristics. This article elaborates on the distribution and immune response characteristics of epididymis immune cells, the role of epididymis epithelial cells (EECs), and the epididymis defense against different pathogenic infections (such as uropathogenic Escherichia coli, Chlamydia trachomatis, and viruses to provide therapeutic approaches for epididymitis and its subsequent fertility problems.
