Abstract
OBJECTIVE Computed tomography enterography (CTE) and magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) are considered substitutes for each other for evaluating Crohn's disease (CD). However, the adequacy of mixing them for routine periodic follow-up for CD has not been established. This study aimed to compare MRE alone with the mixed use of CTE and MRE for the periodic follow-up of small bowel inflammation in patients with CD. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively compared two non-randomized groups, each comprising 96 patients with CD. One group underwent CTE and MRE (MRE followed by CTE or vice versa) for the follow-up of CD (interval, 13-27 months [median, 22 months]), and the other group underwent MRE alone (interval, 15-26 months [median, 21 months]). However, these two groups were similar in clinical characteristics. Three independent readers from three different institutions determined whether inflammation had decreased, remained unchanged, or increased within the entire small bowel and the terminal ileum based on sequential enterography of the patients after appropriate blinding. We compared the two groups for inter-reader agreement and accuracy (terminal ileum only) using endoscopy as the reference standard for enterographic interpretation. RESULTS The inter-reader agreement was greater in the MRE alone group for the entire small bowel (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC]: 0.683 vs. 0.473; p = 0.005) and the terminal ileum (ICC: 0.656 vs. 0.490; p = 0.030). The interpretation accuracy was higher in the MRE alone group without statistical significance (70.9%-74.5% vs. 57.9%-64.9% in individual readers; adjusted odds ratio = 3.21; p = 0.077). CONCLUSION The mixed use of CTE and MRE was inferior to MRE alone in terms of inter-reader reliability and could probably be less accurate than MRE alone for routine monitoring of small bowel inflammation in patients with CD. Therefore, the consistent use of MRE is favored for this purpose.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Flattening in the anteroposterior direction (AP flattening) of the terminal ileum (TI) or sigmoid colon (SC) lying across the psoas muscle, on magnetic resonance enterography (MRE), might mimic bowel inflammation in the coronal view. This study investigated the prevalence of AP flattening and the factors associated with its development. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 364 surgery-naïve patients with Crohn's disease (CD) who had undergone MRE were retrospectively reviewed. AP flattening was defined as a luminal collapse in the anteroposterior direction, with a bowel width in the axial plane < 1/4 of the normal diameter without reduction of bowel width in coronal images. The prevalence of AP flattening of the TI and SC on MRE in patients with bowel segments lying across the psoas muscle was determined. We further compared the rate of AP flattening between MRE and computed tomography enterography (CTE) in a subcohort of patients with prior CTE. The factors associated with AP flattening were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression in a subcohort of patients with endoscopic findings of TI. RESULTS Three hundred and twenty-two and 363 patients, respectively, had TI and SC lying across the psoas muscle. The prevalence of AP flattening on MRE was 7.5% (24/322) in TI and 5.2% (19/363) in SC. The prevalences were significantly higher on MRE than on CTE in both the TI (7.3% [12/164] vs. 0.6% [1/164]; p = 0.003) and SC (5.8% [11/190] vs. 1.6% [3/190]; p = 0.039). AP flattening of the TI was independently and strongly associated with the absence of CD inflammation on endoscopy, with an adjusted odds ratio of 0.066 (p = 0.003) for the presence versus the absence (reference) of inflammation. CONCLUSION AP flattening of the TI or SC lying across the psoas muscle was uncommon and predominantly observed on MRE of the bowel without CD inflammation.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) is a well-established imaging technique that is commonly used for evaluating a variety of bowel diseases, most commonly inflammatory bowel disease which is increasing in prevalence. Inflammatory bowel disease is composed of 2 related, but distinct disease entities: Crohn disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis. In ulcerative colitis, inflammation is generally limited to the mucosa and invariably involves the rectum, and often the more proximal colon. CD is typified by transmural inflammation with skip lesions occurring anywhere from the mouth to anus, but characteristically involves the terminal ileum. The transmural involvement of CD may lead to debilitating ulceration and, ultimately, development of sinus tracts, which can be associated with abscesses and fistulae as extraenteric manifestations of the disease. Because much of the small bowel and extraenteric disease cannot be adequately assessed with conventional endoscopy, imaging plays a crucial role in initial diagnosis and follow-up. MRE does not use ionizing radiation which is important for these patients, many of which present earlier in life and may require multiple imaging examinations. In this article, we review the clinical indications, patient preparation, and optimal technique for MRE. We also discuss the role and proper selection of intravenous gadolinium-based contrast material, oral contrast material, and antiperistaltic agents, including pediatric considerations. Finally, we review the recommended and optional pulse sequence selection, including discussion of a "time-efficient" protocol, reviewing their utility, advantages, and limitations. Our hope is to aid the radiologist seeking to develop a robust MRE imaging program for the evaluation of bowel disease.

Abstract
Background: Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract that is characterized by recurrent attacks and frequent recovery. The lifelong course of this disease requires frequent assessment of the disease activity. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness and safety of computed tomography enterography (CTE) to magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) in adults with CD.
Methods: A systematic review of the literatures was performed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of CTE in comparison with MRE. PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase were searched. Effectiveness outcomes included were sensitivity, specificity, diagnosis difference, diagnostic odds ratio, and positive and negative likelihood. Quality assessment of the studies was conducted using the QADAS score. Meta-analysis was done by RevMan 5.3 for selected outcomes.
Results: Five studies had eligibility for analyzing effectiveness. The meta-analysis results showed that diagnosis difference of MRE and CTE, for diagnosing active CD (0.03 CI 95% -0.07–0.13), fistula (-0.01 CI 95% -0.09–0.07), and cramping (-0.02 CI 95% -0.1– 0.06) were not statistically significant. Six studies were finally selected for safety assessment. The results showed that people who are examined with CTE frequently are at increased risk of developing cancer significantly, as they receive more than 50 msv of radiation per year.
Conclusion: There was no significant difference between MRE and CTE in diagnosis of Crohn’s activity, detection of bowel obstruction, and detection of fistula and stenosis of the alimentary canal. However, the assessment of the safety profile of MRE and CTE showed that MRE is meaningfully safer than CTE for evaluating the recurrence of CD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Few data are available to guide the use of anal imaging for patients with Crohn's disease (CD) who are not suspected of having perianal fistulas. We aimed to evaluate the role of anal imaging supplementary to magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) in these patients. METHODS In a prospective study, we added a round of anal MR imaging (MRI), collecting axial images alone, to MRE evaluation of 451 consecutive adults who were diagnosed with or suspected of having CD but not believed to have perianal fistulas. Images were examined for perianal tracts; if present, colorectal surgeons reexamined patients to identify external openings or perianal inflammation or abscess. Patients were followed and data were collected on dedicated treatment for perianal fistulas or abscess. We calculated the diagnostic yield for anal MRI, associated factors, and outcomes of MRI-detected asymptomatic perianal tracts. RESULTS A total of 440 patients (mean age, 29.6±8.9 years) met the inclusion criteria. Anal MRI revealed perianal tracts in 53 patients (12%; 95% CI, 9.3%-15.4%). Surgeons however did not identify any lesions that required treatment. The asymptomatic tracts were mostly single unbranched (83%), inter-sphincteric (72%), or had a linear dark signal at the tract margin (79%). Younger age at MRE, female sex, and CD activity index scores of 220-450 were independently associated with detection of perianal tracts. MRI detection of asymptomatic tracts was independently associated with later development of perianal fistulas or abscess that required treatment: 17.8% cumulative incidence at 37 months and an adjusted hazard ratio of 3.06 (95% CI, 1.01-9.27; P = .048). CONCLUSIONS In a prospective study of patients with CD, we found that adding anal MRI evaluation to MRE resulted in early identification of patients at risk for perianal complications.

Abstract
Background Adequate bowel preparation is required for magnetic resonance enterography (MRE), which can be achieved by administering contrast solution after mid-gut tubing or taking contrast solution orally. We present the design of randomized controlled trial (RCT) to compare the efficacy and compliance of bowel preparation between mid-gut tubing and oral administering for MRE in patients with Crohn’s disease (CD). Methods/design This is an open-label, multicenter RCT. Ninety-six patients with CD in need of MRE examination and mid-gut tubing (prepared for fecal microbiota transplantation and/or enteral nutrition), aged ≥ 14 years, will be included. Patients will be randomized 1:1 into either bowel preparation by oral administering (oral group) or bowel preparation through mid-gut transendoscopic enteral tubing (TET) (tubing group). The primary outcome measures are: (1) degree of discomfort before/during/after bowel preparation for MRE using a visual 5-grade scale (1 = few, 5 = very severe); and (2) grade of bowel distention evaluated by a 5-grade scale (1 = 0–20% segmental distention, 2 = 20–40% distention, 3 = 40–60% distention, 4 = 60–80% distention, 5 = 80–100% distention). The secondary outcome measure is the accuracy of lesion detection through MRE confirmed by colonoscopy which is evaluated by a 5-point scale. Discussion The outcome of this study is expected to provide a novel effective clinical protocol of bowel preparation for MRE in patients with CD. We hope to highlight the concept of physician–patient satisfaction based on different methods of bowel preparation for MRE. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03541733. Abstract
Computed tomography enterography (CTE) and magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) are presently state-of-the-art radiologic tests used to examine the small bowel for various indications. This article focuses on CTE and MRE for the evaluation of Crohn disease. The article describes recent efforts to achieve more standardized interpretation of CTE and MRE, summarizes recent research studies investigating the role and impact of CTE and MRE more directly for several different clinical and research issues beyond general diagnostic accuracy, and provides an update on progress in imaging techniques. Also addressed are areas that need further exploration in the future.

Abstract
Background/Aims Magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) has emerged as an important tool in the diagnosis and follow-up of Crohn's disease (CD). The aim of this study was to evaluate whether MRE findings could predict the prognosis of CD. Methods In this retrospective study, a total of 173 patients with clinical remission of CD (n=61) or active CD (n=112) were identified. The outcomes of clinical relapse, admission, surgery, and need for other medications according to the MRE findings were evaluated. Results The presence of active inflammation on MRE was observed in 93 (83%) patients with clinically active CD and in 44 (72.1%) patients with clinical remission of CD, without a statistically significant difference (P=0.091). In multivariate analysis, active inflammation on MRE increased the risk for clinical relapse (hazard ratio [HR], 6.985; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.024–47.649) in patients with clinical remission of CD. In patients with clinically active CD, active inflammation on MRE increased the risk for CD-related hospitalization (HR, 2.970; 95% CI, 1.006–8.772). Conclusions The presence of active inflammation on MRE was significantly associated with poor prognosis both in patients with clinical remission of CD and in those with active CD.

Endoscopic Complete Remission of Crohn Disease After Anti-Tumor Necrosis Factor-α Therapy: CT Enterographic Findings and Their Clinical Implications. AJR Am J Roentgenol 2016; 206:1208-16. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to describe the CT enterographic (CTE) findings after endoscopic complete remission (CR) of Crohn disease in patients treated with anti-tumor necrosis factor-α (anti-TNF-α) and the clinical implications of these findings. MATERIALS AND METHODS The records of 27 patients with Crohn disease (14 men, 13 women; mean age, 28.4 ± 8.6 [SD] years) who achieved endoscopic (ileocolonoscopic) CR after anti-TNF-α therapy and underwent CTE both before therapy and at endoscopic CR were identified. Two readers independently assessed the frequencies and severities of mural and perienteric CTE abnormalities, generally regarded as active inflammatory findings, in the terminal ileum and colorectum in the endoscopic CR state and compared them with the corresponding findings before anti-TNF-α therapy. The association between the presence of CTE abnormalities in the face of endoscopic CR and patient outcome during subsequent follow-up was investigated. RESULTS CTE abnormalities were present in the face of endoscopic CR in 11-18 (26-42%) of 43 bowel sections (18 terminal ileum, 25 colorectum), the most frequent being mural hyperenhancement (21-40%) followed by mural thickening (12-16%). Both findings were mild and unaccompanied by other findings. The frequency and severity of mural and perienteric CTE abnormalities were statistically significantly reduced at endoscopic CR compared with the pre-treatment state. Patients with (n = 10) and without (n = 17) CTE abnormalities at endoscopic CR did not significantly differ with respect to Crohn disease aggravation during subsequent follow-up periods averaging 27.4 and 28.5 months (0/10 versus 2/17, p = 0.516). CONCLUSION More than one-fourth of bowel sections in endoscopic CR after anti-TNF-α therapy had residual CTE abnormalities, predominantly mild mural thickening or hyperenhancement. These findings may not have any clinical significance.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this article is to provide a comprehensive review regarding DWI enterography used for evaluating Crohn disease and to summarize the relevant evidence. CONCLUSION Active bowel inflammation in Crohn disease causes restricted diffusion on MR enterography with DWI. Enterographic DWI to evaluate Crohn disease is increasingly drawing attention for both academic research and clinical practice and has shown potential as a quantitative tool for assessing bowel inflammation. DWI enterography also has multiple unresolved issues and limitations.

Abstract
UNLABELLED In 1988, the first contrast agent specifically designed for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), gadopentetate dimeglumine (Magnevist(®)), became available for clinical use. Since then, a plethora of studies have investigated the potential of MRI contrast agents for diagnostic imaging across the body, including the central nervous system, heart and circulation, breast, lungs, the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, musculoskeletal and lymphatic systems, and even the skin. Today, after 25 years of contrast-enhanced (CE-) MRI in clinical practice, the utility of this diagnostic imaging modality has expanded beyond initial expectations to become an essential tool for disease diagnosis and management worldwide. CE-MRI continues to evolve, with new techniques, advanced technologies, and novel contrast agents bringing exciting opportunities for more sensitive, targeted imaging and improved patient management, along with associated clinical challenges. This review aims to provide an overview on the history of MRI and contrast media development, to highlight certain key advances in the clinical development of CE-MRI, to outline current technical trends and clinical challenges, and to suggest some important future perspectives. Common tumors of the stomach, polyposis syndromes, iatrogenic conditions, as well as other conditions of the stomach will be reviewed. The utility of MRI in the evaluation of patients with gastric malignancies and disorders of gastric motility will also be discussed.

Abstract
Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory condition with relapsing-remitting behavior, often causing strictures or penetrating bowel damage. Its lifelong clinical course necessitates frequent assessment of disease activity and complications. Computed tomography (CT) enterography has been used as primary imaging modality; however, the concern for radiation hazard limits its use especially in younger population. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging has advantages of avoiding radiation exposure, lower incidence of adverse events, ability to obtain dynamic information, and good soft-tissue resolution. MR enterography (MRE) with oral contrast agent has been used as primary MR imaging modality of CD with high sensitivity, specificity, and interobserver agreement. The extent of inflammation as well as transmural ulcers and fibrostenotic diseases can be detected with MRE. Novel MR techniques such as diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI), motility study, PET-MRI, and molecular imaging are currently investigated for further improvement of diagnosis and management of CD. MR spectroscopy is a remarkable molecular imaging tool to analyze metabolic profile of CD with human samples such as plasma, urine, or feces, as well as colonic mucosa itself.

Abstract
Introduction Abdominal pain in PNH has never been investigated by in-vivo imaging studies. With MRI, we aimed to assess mesenteric vessels flow and small bowel wall perfusion to investigate the ischemic origin of abdominal pain. Materials and Methods Six PNH patients with (AP) and six without (NOP) abdominal pain underwent MRI. In a blinded fashion, mean flow (MF, quantity of blood moving through a vessel within a second, in mL·s-1) and stroke volume (SV, volume of blood pumped out at each heart contraction, in mL) of Superior Mesenteric Vein (SMV) and Artery (SMA), areas under the curve at 60 (AUC60) and 90 seconds (AUC90) and Ktrans were assessed by two operators. Results Mean total perfusion and flow parameters were lower in AP than in NOP group. AUC60: 84.81 ± 11.75 vs. 131.73 ± 18.89 (P < 0.001); AUC90: 102.33 ± 14.16 vs. 152.58 ± 22.70 (P < 0.001); Ktrans: 0.0346 min-1 ± 0.0019 vs. 0.0521 ± 0.0015 (P = 0.093 duodenum, 0.009 jejunum/ileum). SMV: MF 4.67 ml/s ± 0.85 vs. 8.32 ± 2.14 (P = 0.002); SV 3.85 ml ± 0.76 vs. 6.55 ± 1.57 (P = 0.02). SMA: MF 6.95 ± 2.61 vs. 11.2 ± 2.32 (P = 0.07); SV 6.52 ± 2.19 vs. 8.78 ± 1.63 (P = 0.07). We found a significant correlation between MF and SV of SMV and AUC60 (MF:ρ = 0.88, P < 0.001; SV: ρ = 0.644, P = 0.024), AUC90 (MF: ρ = 0.874, P < 0.001; SV:ρ = 0.774, P = 0.003) and Ktrans (MF:ρ = 0.734, P = 0.007; SV:ρ = 0.581, P = 0.047). Conclusions Perfusion and flow MRI findings suggest that the impairment of small bowel blood supply is significantly associated with abdominal pain in PNH.

Abstract
MR enterography has an established role in evaluating patients with Crohn disease providing essential complementary information to clinical assessment, and as an indispensible adjunct to clinical tools such as colonoscopy. MR enterography examinations can establish the diagnosis of Crohn disease, evaluate disease activity and complications, and assess treatment response, thus providing support for clinical decision-making. Currently, MR imaging findings are highly predictive of tissue inflammation and can be used clinically to guide clinical care.

Abstract
The role of radiologic evaluation in Crohn's disease (CD) has undergone a recent paradigm shift in which the radiologist adds value to the multidisciplinary team by longitudinally assessing therapeutic response and identifying treatment-modifying subtypes, such as fibrostenotic or fistulizing disease. Magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) has become the primary imaging modality used. The combination of multiplanar, multiparametric, and multiphasic contrast-enhanced imaging with the high spatial resolution and very high tissue contrast of MR imaging allows for detailed evaluation of intra-abdominal pathology, without the risk of cumulative radiation exposure. MRE provides the benefit of a complete evaluation of mural, extramural, and even extraintestinal manifestations and complications of CD in a single examination. Cine motility sequences and diffusion-weighted imaging may further increase sensitivity and specificity. MRE represents an ideal imaging modality for initial evaluation, assessment of therapeutic response, and evaluation of complications in patients with CD.

Abstract
RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES To use a cine balanced steady-state free precession magnetic resonance enterography (cine MRE) pulse sequence to assess the effectiveness of a sublingual (SL) antiperistaltic agent, hyoscyamine sulfate. MATERIALS AND METHODS Institutional review board approval was granted with an exemption for informed consent in this Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-compliant, retrospective, single-institution study. Of the 288 MRE examinations performed between October 1, 2007 and January 15, 2011, 92 using SL hyoscyamine sulfate for antiperistalsis were included for review, each with cine MRE before and after medication. These 184 cine MRE data sets were randomized, blinded for treatment, and independently reviewed by five attending abdominal radiologists, who rated the degree of whole abdomen bowel motility on each cine MRE data set on a 5-point scale. Pre- and postmedication mean peristalsis ratings, standard deviation, mean difference, and treatment effect sizes were calculated. A repeated measures analysis of variance test was performed using a significance threshold of P = .05. Interobserver reliabilities were also calculated. RESULTS Mean peristalsis ratings ranged 2.63-3.34 and 2.36-3.03, before and after medication administration, respectively. The mean differences ranged from 0.22 to 0.46, which are treatment effect sizes of 0.20 to 0.37. The decrease in peristalsis observed by the five reviewing radiologists after SL hyoscyamine sulfate administration was significant (df = 1/182, f = 7.35, P < .01). The interobserver reliabilities were 0.34 for the pretest and 0.33 for the posttest. CONCLUSIONS Although cine MRE sequences show decreased bowel peristalsis after the use of SL hyoscyamine sulfate, the small size of the observed treatment effect is likely insufficient to justify its use for MRE.

Abstract
Evaluation of the molecular processes responsible for disease pathogenesis and progression represents the new frontier of clinical radiology. Multimodality imaging lies at the cutting edge, combining the power of MRI for tissue characterization, microstructural appraisal and functional assessment together with new positron emission tomography (PET) tracers designed to target specific metabolic processes. The recent commercial availability of an integrated clinical whole-body PET-MRI provides a hybrid platform for exploring and exploiting the synergies of multimodal imaging. First experiences on the clinical and research application of hybrid PET-MRI are emerging. This article reviews the rapidly evolving field and speculates on the potential future direction.

Abstract
Due to advances in technology, magnetic resonance is an increasingly popular method for evaluating the small bowel and colon because of the lack of radiation, wealth of information provided by the images, and growing demand from gastroenterologists, surgeons, and oncologists. Careful attention to proper technique, however, is necessary to obtain high-quality images. Factors that need to be considered for successful magnetic resonance of the bowel include method for administration of oral or rectal contrast, patient positioning, need for antiperistaltic medication, and imaging sequences and planes.

Abstract
This article addresses the current technique and protocols for magnetic resonance (MR) enterography, with a primary focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and a secondary detailed discussion of other diseases of the small bowel beyond IBD. A brief discussion of MR imaging for appendicitis is included, but the evaluation of appendicitis does not require an enterographic protocol. The focused key points and approach presented in this article are intended to enhance the reader's understanding to help improve patient compliance with the MR enterographic studies, overcome challenges, and improve interpretation.

UNLABELLED Intestines, especially the small bowel, are rarely subject to US assessment due to the presence of gases and chyme. The aim of this paper was to analyze ultrasound images in selected pathologies of the small intestine in adults, including the aspects of differential diagnosis. MATERIAL AND METHODS In 2001-2012, abdominal ultrasound examinations were conducted in 176 patients with the following small bowel diseases: Crohn's disease (n=35), small bowel obstruction (n=35), yersiniosis (n=28), infectious diarrhea (n=26), bacterial overgrowth syndrome (n=25), coeliac disease (n=15) and small bowel ischemia (n=12). During examinations patients were fasting and no other particular preparations were needed. Convex transducers of 3.5-6 MHz and linear ones of 7-12 MHz were used. The assessment of the small intestine in four abdominal quadrants constituted an integral element of the examination. The following features of the small bowel ultrasound presentation were subject to analysis: thickness and perfusion of the walls, presence of thickened folds in the jejunum, reduction of their number, presence of fluid and gas contents in the intestine, its peristaltic activity, jejunization of the ileum and enteroenteric intussusception. Furthermore, the size of the mesenteric lymph nodes and the width of the superior mesenteric artery were determined and the peritoneal cavity was evaluated in terms of the presence of free fluid. RESULTS Statistically significant differences were obtained between the thickness of the small intestine in Crohn's disease or in ischemic conditions and the thickness in the remaining analyzed pathological entities. Small bowel obstruction was manifested by the presence of distended loops due to gas and fluid as well as by severe peristaltic contractions occurring periodically. In the course of ischemic disease, the intestinal walls were thickened without the signs of increased perfusion and in the majority of cases intestinal stenosis was observed. Fluid in the intestine was detected in all patients with coeliac disease, gas in 86.7% of patients, thickening of the folds in the jejunum in 86.7%, their reduction in 80%, increased (enhanced) peristalsis in 93.3% and jejunization in 40%. In 80% of coeliac disease cases, the intestine showed the features of hyperemia on color Doppler examination and in 53.3% of patients the dilated lumen of the superior mesenteric artery was detected. Enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes were visualized in 73.3% of the subjects, enteroenteric intussusception in 33.3% and free fluid in the peritoneal cavity in 60%. CONCLUSIONS Small bowel obstruction is manifested by the presence of evidently dilated intestinal loops filled with gas and fluid and periodical severe deepened peristalsis.Ischemic changes and Crohn's disease are characterized by the presence of fragmentarily thickened intestinal walls and intestinal stenosis. Moreover, in Crohn's disease, increased wall perfusion and mesenteric adenomegaly is encountered.Coeliac disease is manifested by: increased amount of fluid mainly in the jejunum, thickened and hyperemic jejunal walls, increased peristalsis;hypertrophied mucosal folds - often their number is reduced, jejunization and transient enteroenteric intussusception;ultrasound changes that require the differentiation with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth syndrome and, to a lesser degree, with infectious diarrhea.
