Abstract
The present work reports studies on the effective removal of Rhodamine-B (RhB) using Aliquat-336 modified Amberlite XAD-4 resin in the fixed-bed columns in series. The effect of flow rate (Q = 2 to 6 mL·min-1), bed height (h = 3.5 to 7 cm) and initial RhB dye concentration (Cin = 10 to 20 mg·L-1) was studied. When a single column was used, 93% RhB dye was removed in 3 h at Q = 2 mL·min-1, Cin = 10 mg·L-1, and h = 7 cm. When three columns in series were used, almost 100% dye was removed until 80 h. The maximum breakthrough time (142 h) and saturation time (244 h) were found by keeping Q = 2 mL·min-1, h = 7 cm of each column and Cin = 10 mg·L-1. Mathematical modeling of the breakthrough curves was done by using Yoon-Nelson, Clark, Wolborska, and pore diffusion models. The Clark model best fitted the experimental data. The possible interaction mechanism between Aliquat-336 and RhB dye was proposed. The column was regenerated in continuous mode using 1 M HCl solution and maintaining a flow rate of 2 mL·min-1.

Abstract
Abstract
In this review paper, a complete study and analysis of the research articles dealing with the removal of various organic and inorganic pollutants using solvent impregnated resins (SIR) is carried out. The method of impregnation, characterizations of prepared resin, and regeneration techniques of different SIRs for batch and continuous fixed bed columns are presented. The effects of different operating parameters (e.g., loading of solvent on the resin, dosage of adsorbent, initial solute concentration, pH, temperature, time, ionic strength) on the separation efficiency of SIR in the batch mode are discussed. Thermodynamic parameters (change in Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, and entropy) are tabulated from the data available in the literature, and if not given, then their values are calculated and presented. The influence of parameters (flow rate, bed height, pH, concentration of the solution, etc.) on the fixed bed column performance is analyzed. Design aspects of the column are also discussed, and the dimensions of fixed bed columns for industrial applications are proposed.

Abstract
Abstract
A special attention is currently focused on the recovery of Au, Ag, Pt, Pd and Rh from both primary and secondary sources. From the wide range of sorbents that have been used in this respect, the required selectivity is proved only by the chelating polymers containing donor N, O and S atoms in their functional groups. This work presents the recent published researches on this topic, pointing out the capabilities of chelating sorbents based on organic synthetic polymers for a sustainable development. The chelating sorbents are differentiated and reviewed according to their synthesis strategy and compatibility with synthetic and real matrices. First, an overview on the novel functionalized polymers and impregnated resins with good selectivity for the recovery of most valuable precious metals from synthetic leach solutions is given. Subsequently, the performances of these materials in the selective and preconcentrative recovery of Au, Ag, Pt, Pd and Rh from simulated and real leachates are discussed. The viability of an integrated approach for the determination of precious metals from simulated solutions by solid phase spectrometry is highlighted. The transposition of chelating polymers’ potential in challenging technologies for precious metal recovery-reuse-recycling needs further research on directions that are proposed.

Abstract
Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofiber membranes functionalized with calix[8]arenes (C[8]) were successfully prepared by electrospinning of PAN solutions with addition of various calixarenes. Uniform electrospun C[8]/PAN nanofibers were obtained by incorporating three types of calix[8]arenes into the PAN matrix and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The SEM results showed that the addition of calix[8]arenes resulted in a decrease in the diameter of PAN nanofibers. Static adsorption behavior was studied by using C[8]/PAN nanofibers as an adsorbent and Congo red and Neutral red as model dye molecules. The adsorption of Congo red onto Amide-Cal[8]-15/PAN nanofibers fitted the second-order kinetic model, and the apparent adsorption rate constant was 1.1 × 10(-3) g·mg(-1)·min(-1) at 25 °C. Then, by virtue of electrostatic attraction, as-prepared Au nanoparticles were immobilized on Amide-Cal[8]/PAN nanofibers to form Au/Amide-Cal[8]/PAN composite nanofibers. The catalytic activity of the as-prepared Au/Amide-Cal[8]/PAN composite nanofibers was investigated by monitoring the reduction of Congo red in the presence of NaBH4. The reduction kinetics was explained by the assumption of a pseudo-first-order reaction with regard to Congo red. Au/Amide-Cal[8]/PAN composite nanofibers exhibited high catalytic activity, excellent stability, and convenient recycling.

Abstract
The inclusion interaction between propranolol (PPL) and p-sulfonatocalix[6]arene (SCX6) was investigated by fluorescence and (1)H NMR spectroscopy. Influences of pH, temperature, ionic strength and the concentration of SCX6 were examined in detail. In phosphate buffer solution with pH 7.5, the fluorescence of PPL dramatically quenched upon addition of SCX6 revealing the formation of inclusion complexes between PPL and SCX6. The stoichiometric ratio was verified to be 1:1 by the continuous variation method. The inclusion constant of PPL-SCX6 complexes was calculated as 2.2×10(4)L/mol by the nonlinear curve fitting method. (1)H NMR titration spectra testified that the aliphatic chain of PPL may be partially penetrated into the hydrophobic cavity of SCX6. This was confirmed by molecular dynamics calculations.

Abstract
This review treats the biological properties of the various anionic calix[n]arenes, both as soluble forms and in the colloidal state. The complexation of these molecules with amino-acids, peptides and proteins is discussed, as is their interaction with model membranes. The complexations with various Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients as complexes, for tamoxifen as solid state and colloidal structures, are treated in depth. Two sections deal with the direct biological action of the calix[n]arenes and their use as biosensors. A final section deals with the toxicity, in reality the lack of toxicity of the calix[n]arenes.

Abstract
The present work explores sorption behavior of calix[4]arene based silica resin to remove α and β endosulfan isomers from aqueous solution. The efficiency of resin was checked through both batch and column sorption methods. In both methods, the sorption parameters, i.e. pH, equilibrium time, shaking speed and sorbent dosage were optimized as 2, 60 min, 125 rpm and 50 mg, respectively. Freundlich and Langmuir sorption isotherm models were applied to validate the sorption process. The data obtained in both models reveal that the sorption is favorable. Column sorption data were analyzed through Thomas model to calculate kinetic coefficient k(TH) and maximum sorption capacity q(o) of the resin, which were found to be 6.18 and 5.83 cm(3) mg(-1) min(-1) as well as 1.11 and 1.08 mg g(-1) for α and β endosulfan, respectively. Kinetics of sorption shows that it follows pseudo second order rate equation. The optimized method has also been applied to real water samples and the results show that calix[4]arene based silica resin is an effective sorbent to remove endosulfan from waste waters.

Abstract
The adsorbents of starch grafted p-tert-butyl-calix[4,6,8]arene-SGCn (SGC4, SGC6, SGC8) are prepared. The products are characterized by FTIR, elemental analysis, thermal gravimetric analysis and scanning electron microscope. Static adsorption behavior is studied by using SGC8 as adsorbent, butyl Rhodamine B (BRB) solution as simulation dye wastewater. The adsorption of BRB onto SGC8 fits the second order kinetic model and the apparent adsorption rate constant is 0.002 g mg(-1)min(-1) at 25 °C. The equilibrium adsorption data are interpreted using Langmuir and Freundlich models. The adsorption of BRB onto SGC8 is better represented by the Langmuir equation. The thermodynamic parameters for the adsorption reaction are calculated through van't Hoff analysis. The adsorbent may be easily regenerated by using ethanol solution as desorption agent to extract dye from SGC8. The rate of desorption of BRB is dependent on the concentration of ethanol and the temperature. SGC8 exhibits excellent adsorption and desorption properties toward dye molecule. The new-style adsorbent of SGC8 is regarded as a potential adsorbent to deal with dye or organic wastewater.
