Abstract
Fibrosis, a disease characterized by an excess accumulation of extracellular matrix components, could lead to organ failure and death, and is to blame for up to 45 % of all fatalities in developed nations. These disorders all share the common trait of an unchecked and increasing accumulation of fibrotic tissue in the affected organs, which leads to their malfunction and eventual failure, even if their underlying causes are highly diverse and, in some cases, remain unclear. Numerous studies have identified activated myofibroblasts as the common cellular elements ultimately responsible for the replacement of normal tissues with nonfunctional fibrotic tissue. The transforming growth factor-β pathway, for instance, plays a significant role in practically all kinds of fibrosis. However, there is no specific drug for the treatment of fibrosis, several medications with anti-hepatic fibrosis properties are still in the research and development stages. Peptide, which refers to a substance consisting of 2-50 amino acids, is characterized by structural diversity, low toxicity, biological activities, easy absorption, specific targeting, few side effects, and has been proven to be effective in anti-fibrosis. Here, we summarized various anti-fibrosis peptides in fibrosis including the liver, lungs, kidneys, and other organs. This review will provide a new insight into peptide mediated anti-fibrosis and is helpful to creation of antifibrotic medications.

Abstract
Vasonatrin peptide (VNP) is a synthetic peptide that possesses vasodilatory, natriuretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. The authors aimed to analyze the effects of VNP on fat graft survival. Twenty Sprague-Dawley rats are randomly divided into two groups of 10. Fat grafts are harvested from the right inguinal region. After preparation, fat grafts are placed to the interscapular region. The first group of rats were administered VNP after their fat injection, while the second group received tail-vein injections of an equal volume of sterile saline following their fat injection. Experiment and control groups are evaluated according to their level of degeneration of adipocytes, fat necrosis, vacuolization, cyst formation in adipocytes, fibrosis of the fat tissue, capillary density, and CD31 immunohistochemical staining. Degeneration, vacuolization, and cyst formation in adipocytes were lower in the experiment group. Increased capillary density in the experiment group was demonstrated by CD31 antibody staining and by counting capillary density under a microscope. The average percentage of change in weight of the fat grafts in the experiment group was lower than that in the control group. The results indicate that VNP has some beneficial effects on fat graft survival by multiple independent mechanisms that influence both local and systemic homeostasis.

Abstract
The direct modulation of Antrodia cinnamomea (AC) on the prominent role of liver fibrosis-hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) in situ remains unclear. Firstly, the administration of A. cinnamomea mycelial extract (ACME) could improve liver morphology and histological changes including collagen formation and GPT activity in the liver of thioacetamide (TAA)-injured rats. The morphology and fatty acid restore of TAA-induced HSCs (THSCs) returned to the non-chemical induced HSCs (NHSCs) type as measured by immunofluorescence and Oil Red O staining. PPARγ was upregulated associated with the lowering of α-SMA protein in NHSC-ACME. ACME inhibited the MMP-2 activity in NHSCs by gelatin Zymography. After LC-MS/MS, the cytoskeleton (tubulin, lamin A) and heat shock protein 8 in NHSC-ACME, and guanylate kinase, brain-specific kinase, SG-II and p55 proteins were downregulated in THSC-ACME. Whereas MHC class II, SMC6 protein, and phospholipase D were upregulated in NHSC-ACME. Furthermore, PKG-1 was downregulated in NHSC-ACME and upregulated in THSC-ACME. SG-II and p55 proteins were downregulated in NHSC-ACME and THSC-ACME by Western blotting. Taken together, the beneficial effect of A. cinnamomea on the induction of HSC cellular proteins is potentially applied as an alternative and complementary medicine for the prevention and amelioration of a liver injury.

Abstract
Vasonatrin peptide (VNP), a novel manmade natriuretic peptide, is known as a cardiovascular active substance. However, its neuroeffects are largely unknown. Here, cultured dopaminergic neurons from ventral mesencephalon of mouse were exposed to N-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP(+)), and the effects of VNP on the neurotoxicity of MPP(+) were investigated. As a result, MPP(+) caused injuries in the dopaminergic neurons. VNP significantly reduced the cytotoxicity of MPP(+) by increasing axon number and length of dopaminergic neurons, and by enhancing the cell viability. Also, the MPP(+)-induced depolymerization of β-Tubulin III was attenuated by the treatment of VNP. In addition, VNP significantly increased the intracellular levels of cGMP. These effects of VNP were mimicked by 8-br-cGMP (a cell-permeable analog of cGMP), whereas inhibited by HS-142-1 (the antagonist of the particulate guanylyl cyclase-coupled natriuretic peptide receptors), or KT-5823 (a cGMP-dependent protein kinase inhibitor). Taken together, VNP attenuates the neurotoxicity of MPP(+) via guanylyl cyclase-coupled NPR/cGMP/PKG pathway, indicating that VNP might be a new effective reagent in the treatment of neuron degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in Parkinson's disease (PD).

Abstract
Certain bioactive peptides are reported to be able to alleviate hepatic fibrosis. Our previous work has confirmed the hepatoprotective effect of corn peptides (CPs) that are prepared from a high protein by-product, corn gluten meal, on acute liver injury in an animal model. However, the antifibrotic activity of CPs remained to be elucidated. In this study, the hepatoprotective effect of CPs on thioacetamide (TAA)-induced liver fibrosis was tested. Results showed that CPs (100 mg/kg body weight) significantly decreased the levels of alanine transaminase/aspartate transaminase, laminin, type IV collagen, and type III collagen in serum and increased the serum albumin levels and total antioxidant capacity. Additionally, with CP treatment (100 mg/kg body weight), a significant decrease was observed in the levels of malondialdehyde, nitric oxide, hydroxyproline, transforming growth factor β1, and lactate dehydrogenase activity as well as the liver index, while the activity of superoxidedismutase was significantly increased in livers. The histological and morphological analysis showed that the hepatocyte structure in CP-treated rats was superior to that of TAA-injured rats, and inflammation and fibrosis were also ameliorated. Therefore, CPs can be used as an option for prevention and adjuvant therapy of liver fibrosis.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the cardiovascular and renal activities of a newly designed natriuretic peptide (NP). Here, we engineered a novel 28-amino acid chimeric peptide, termed AC-NP that combined the 17-amino acid ring of C type natriuretic peptide (CNP) with the 6-amino acid N-terminus and 5-amino acid C-terminus of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP). Both in vitro and in vivo experiments were performed to determine the actions of AC-NP. In normal rats, AC-NP proved to be more potentially diuretic, natriuretic and hypotensive compared with other NPs, such as ANP, CNP and vasonatrin peptide (VNP), which is another man-made NP. In relaxation of isolated abdominal aorta from rat, AC-NP was equally effective to ANP, CNP and VNP. Elevated levels of 3',5'-guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in plasma and urine cGMP excretion indicated the participation of cGMP in the functions of AC-NP. Taken together, innovative designed AD-NP might be a new candidate therapeutic peptide against cardiorenal disorders.
