Abstract
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD; also known as hyperkinetic disorder) is a common neurodevelopmental condition that affects children and adults worldwide. ADHD has a predominantly genetic aetiology that involves common and rare genetic variants. Some environmental correlates of the disorder have been discovered but causation has been difficult to establish. The heterogeneity of the condition is evident in the diverse presentation of symptoms and levels of impairment, the numerous co-occurring mental and physical conditions, the various domains of neurocognitive impairment, and extensive minor structural and functional brain differences. The diagnosis of ADHD is reliable and valid when evaluated with standard diagnostic criteria. Curative treatments for ADHD do not exist but evidence-based treatments substantially reduce symptoms and/or functional impairment. Medications are effective for core symptoms and are usually well tolerated. Some non-pharmacological treatments are valuable, especially for improving adaptive functioning. Clinical and neurobiological research is ongoing and could lead to the creation of personalized diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for this disorder.

Abstract
Objective A multitude of previous studies has substantiated that endometriosis correlated highly with psychiatric health. This study aims to investigate the association between endometriosis and psychiatric health. Methods Utilizing the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan, 100,770 enrolled participants, including 20,154 patients with endometriosis and 80,616 in the control group (1:4), matched for age, and index date from Taiwan's Longitudinal Health Insurance Database between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2015. The Cox proportional regression model was used to compare the risk of mental disorders during the 16 years of follow-up after adjusting for confounding factors. Results Of the study patients, 4083 (20.26%) developed mental disorders; 9225 of the 80,616 controls (11.44%) developed mental disorders. The Cox regression demonstrated that, after adjusting for age, monthly income, urbanization level, etc., people with endometriosis are more likely to suffer from mental disorders compared to those without endometriosis (hazard ratio [HR]=2.131; 95% confidence interval [CI]= 1.531-2.788; p<0.001). The result illustrated that women over 40 years old had a more significant risk. Conclusion Compared to people without endometriosis, this study provides evidence that patients with endometriosis are at a 2.131-fold higher risk of developing mental disorders, especially in elder women. Regular psychiatric follow-up might be needed for those patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Among untreated adults, functional impairments associated with ADHD are widespread and cumulative, and can include social, educational, and professional impairments, increased risk of accidents and mortality, and reduced quality of life. Here, we review the most prominent functional impairments in adults with ADHD and summarize evidence describing the potential role of medication in improving outcomes. METHOD Articles related to the search terms "ADHD," "adult," and functional impairments were identified through Google Scholar and PubMed and selected for inclusion based on four criteria: strength of evidence, relevance to current challenges in adult ADHD, impact on the field, and recency of the results. RESULTS We identified 179 papers to support the conclusions on the relationship between ADHD and functional impairments, and the impact of pharmacological therapy on functional impairments. CONCLUSION This narrative review provides evidence that pharmacological treatment can be effective in minimizing not only the symptoms of ADHD, but its functional consequences as well.

Abstract
Objective Previous studies have shown an increased in psychiatric disorders in women with disorders associated with hyperandrogenism, but few nationwide cohorts have studied this phenomenon. Therefore, this study is aimed to examine the association between the clinical manifestations of hyperandrogenism and subsequent psychiatric disorders. Methods Based on the National Health Insurance Research Database, 49,770 enrolled participants were matched for age and index date between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2015. Hirsutism, polycystic ovary syndrome, and acne are characterized by hyperandrogenism. After adjusting for confounding factors, we used Cox proportional analysis to compare the risk of psychiatric disorders during the 16 years of follow-up. Results Of all the participants, 1319 (13.25%) had psychiatric disorders in the study group, whereas only 3900(9.80%) had psychiatric disorders in the control group. After adjusting for age, and monthly income, the Cox regression analysis showed that the study patients were more likely to develop psychiatric disorders (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.004, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.327–2.724, P < 0.001). The results demonstrated that women aged 20–29 years had a more significant risk. Conclusion Women with clinical characteristics of hyperandrogenism have a higher risk of developing psychiatric disorders, especially those aged 20–29 years.

Abstract
BackgroundThe histamine type 1 receptor antagonist (H1RA) has been commonly used. This study aimed to examine the association between the usage of H1RA and the risk of dementia.MethodsA total of 8,986 H1RA users aged ≥50 and 26,958 controls matched a ratio of 1:3 for age, sex, and comorbidity, were selected between January 1, and December 31, 2000, from Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research Database. Fine and Gray’s survival analysis (competing with mortality) was used to compare the risk of developing dementia during a 15-year follow-up period (2000–2015).ResultsIn general, the H1RA usage was not significantly associated with dementia (adjusted subdistribution hazard ratio [SHR] = 1.025, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.883–1.297, p = 0.274) for the H1RA cohort. However, a differential risk was found among the groups at risk. The patients with the usage of H1RA aged ≥65 years (adjusted SHR: 1.782, 95% CI = 1.368–2.168, p < 0.001) were associated with a higher risk of dementia, in comparison to the control groups. Furthermore, the patients with the usage of H1RA that were male, or had more comorbidities, were also associated with an increased risk of dementia.ConclusionThe usage of H1RA was associated with the risk of developing dementia in the patients aged ≥ 65 years.

Abstract
Objectives: To assess efficacy and safety of the new Dextroamphetamine Transdermal System (d-ATS) to treat children and adolescents (aged 6-17 years) with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods: In this phase 2, randomized, placebo-controlled study, 4 d-ATS patches of differing doses (5, 10, 15, and 20 mg) were evaluated. Patients began a 5-week, open-label, stepwise dose-optimization period in which they received a 5-mg d-ATS patch (applied to hip) for 9 hours. During weekly visits, patients were evaluated for possible adjustments to the next dose level based on efficacy and safety. Once at the optimal dose, that dose was maintained during a 2-week, crossover double-blind treatment period. Primary endpoint was to assess efficacy of d-ATS versus placebo as measured by Swanson, Kotkin, Agler, M-Flynn, and Pelham Scale (SKAMP) total score; key secondary endpoints included assessing onset and duration of efficacy by SKAMP total score, and additional secondary endpoints included Permanent Product Measure of Performance (PERMP) scores. Safety was assessed throughout. Results: d-ATS treatment resulted in significant improvements versus placebo in ADHD symptoms as measured by SKAMP total score, with overall least-squares mean difference (95% confidence interval) versus placebo of -5.87 (6.76, -4.97; p < 0.001) over the 12-hour assessment period. Onset of efficacy was observed at 2 hours postdose (p < 0.001), and duration of effect continued through 12 hours (patch removed at 9 hours), with significant differences between d-ATS and placebo at all time points from 2 hours onward (all p ≤ 0.003). Significant improvements versus placebo in PERMP-A and PERMP-C scores were also observed from 2 to 12 hours postdose with d-ATS treatment. d-ATS was safe and well-tolerated, with a systemic safety profile similar to that observed with oral amphetamines. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that d-ATS is an effective and well-tolerated treatment for children and adolescents with ADHD. These data indicate that d-ATS can deliver sustained levels of efficacy along with the advantages of transdermal drug delivery, making it a beneficial new treatment option. Abstract
In this review, we undertake a critical appraisal of eight published studies providing first evidence that a history of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may increase risk for the later-life development of a neurodegenerative disease, in particular Lewy body diseases (LBD), by up to five-fold. Most of these studies have used data linked to health records in large population registers and include impressive sample sizes and adequate follow-up periods. We identify a number of methodological limitations as well, including potential diagnostic inaccuracies arising from the use of electronic health records, biases in the measurement of ADHD status and symptoms, and concerns surrounding the representativeness of ADHD and LBD cohorts. Consequently, previously reported risk associations may have been underestimated due to the high likelihood of potentially missed ADHD cases in groups used as “controls”, or alternatively previous estimates may be inflated due to the inclusion of confounding comorbidities or non-ADHD cases within “exposed” groups that may have better accounted for dementia risk. Prospective longitudinal studies involving well-characterized cases and controls are recommended to provide some reassurance about the validity of neurodegenerative risk estimates in ADHD.

Abstract
Background Symptoms experienced by adult patients with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) frequently result in functional impairment across academic/occupational functioning, daily life, and social functioning. A substantial proportion of undiagnosed and untreated ADHD has been suggested in Japan. This study aims to better understand the potential undiagnosed ADHD population in Japan by quantifying the burden associated with ADHD symptoms through a comparison of the prevalence of comorbidities, health-related quality of life (HRQoL), work productivity and activity impairment (WPAI), and healthcare resource utilization (HRU) between undiagnosed potential ADHD respondents who were screened positive and negative using Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS)-v1.1. Methodology Respondents from Japan National Health and Wellness Survey 2016 who answered ASRS-v1.1 without an ADHD diagnosis were included. Respondents checking ≥4 items from ASRS-A and ≥9 from ASRS-A+B were classified as ASRS A+ (n = 309) and ASRS AB+ (n = 227), respectively. ASRS negative (n = 9,280) were respondents who were neither ASRS A+ nor ASRS AB+. Data on the presence of comorbidities, HRQoL, WPAI, and HRU were compared. Results ASRS A+ and ASRS AB+ respondents reported higher coexistence of mental comorbidities (depression, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, etc.), sleep problems (insomnia, narcolepsy, sleep apnea, etc.), and physical comorbidities (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, allergy, and asthma). They also reported greater WPAI and HRU and lower HRQoL than matched ASRS-negative respondents. Conclusions A significantly higher burden was identified among undiagnosed adults with potential ADHD symptoms. Appropriate diagnosis may help those at risk or those who present with symptoms overlapping with ADHD.

Abstract
Background Few studies have investigated the association between tobacco smoking and sick leave (SL) in Japan. Methods We followed 70 896 workers aged 20–59 years (60 133 males, 10 763 females) between April 2012 and March 2017. A Cox proportional hazards model was used to investigate the associations between smoking (smoking status and intensity) and long-term SL (ie, SL lasting ≥30 consecutive days). Cause-specific analyses were also conducted. Results A total of 1777 people took long-term SL during a follow-up of 307 749 person years. Compared with never-smokers, current smokers were at a higher risk of long-term SL (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.32; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.19 to 1.48). Cause-specific analyses revealed that current smoking was associated with a higher risk of SL due to all physical disorders (HR = 1.44, 95% CI = 1.22 to 1.69), cancer (HR = 1.49, 95% CI = 1.10 to 2.01), cardiovascular disease (CVD; HR = 2.16, 95% CI = 1.31 to 3.55), and injuries/external causes (HR = 1.83, 95% CI = 1.31 to 2.58). Former smokers were at a higher risk of SL due to cancer at a borderline significance level (HR = 1.38, 95% CI = 0.99 to 1.92). Low-intensity smoking (ie, 1–10 cigarettes smoked per day) was associated with all-cause SL, SL due to CVD, and SL due to injuries/external causes compared with never-smokers. Conclusion In a large cohort of working-age Japanese, smoking was associated with a greater risk of long-term SL. Greater effort is needed to mitigate disease burden associated with smoking at workplace in Japan. Implications Our study contributes to the literature on the association between smoking and SL in several ways. First, the study was conducted among a Japanese working population. While the association has been extensively studied in Western setting, few attempts have been made elsewhere. Second, cause-specific analyses were undertaken in our study. Third, we paid attention to the effect of low-intensity smoking on SL given that there is growing evidence of an elevated health risk associated with low-intensity smoking.

Abstract
Background: The association between attention-deficit hypersensitivity disorder (ADHD) and the risk of developing colorectal cancer (CRC) is, as yet, to be investigated, and thus, we have conducted this nationwide, cohort study to examine the association in patients from Taiwan. Methods: In this study, 798 individuals with newly diagnosed ADHD and 2,394 (1:3) age-, gender-, and index year- matched controls without ADHD were enrolled, between 2000 and 2013, from the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database, a subset of the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan. The cumulative incidence of CRC was assessed in each cohort by the Kaplan-Meier method. The multivariate Cox proportional hazards model was used to estimate the crude, and the adjusted hazards ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), was conducted to estimate the association between ADHD and CRC. Results: The Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that the cumulative incidence of CRC was significantly higher in patients with ADHD than in those without it (log rank test, p < 0.001). After adjustments for age, gender, comorbidities, and other covariates, the ADHD group was associated with an increased risk of CRC in comparison to the non-ADHD group (adjusted HR = 3.458, 95% CI = 1.640-7.293, p < 0.001). In addition, the usage of methylphenidate was not associated with the risk of developing CRC in patients with ADHD. Conclusion: This retrospective cohort study depicts the evidence that ADHD was associated with the increased risk of CRC. Further studies are needed to confirm the association and the underlying mechanisms.

Abstract
This study analyzed the pattern of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) medication initiation in adult patients with ADHD after the reimbursement criteria change and identified the influencing factors associated with it using the claim data. We identified 243 adult patients with ADHD who had not been prescribed ADHD drugs before 1 September 2016. We conducted Kaplan-Meier survival analysis to calculate the time to initial prescription of ADHD medications, and Cox proportional hazard regression analysis to estimate the influencing factors. Approximately one-third of the patients (n = 76, 31.3%) were first prescribed ADHD medications after reimbursement approval, and 40 of them (16.5%) started treatment with osmotic release oral system methylphenidate. The patient's age group (30-39 years) and the status of diagnosis before the index date were associated with early initiation of pharmacotherapy. The odds of starting ADHD medications increased approximately 2.7-fold in the 30-39 age group and 0.2-fold in the case of patients who were diagnosed before the approval. Our findings show that both diagnosis and treatment of adult ADHD remains inadequate despite the change in reimbursement criteria. Improving awareness of adult ADHD among both the public and the professionals is essential to increase its chances of diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of literature from large databases and registries to assess the effects of ADHD medication on associated functional outcomes. STUDY DESIGN A literature search was performed in PubMed, PsycINFO, MEDLINE, and Web of Science for articles published prior to January 2019. Sample size, age range, country of origin, medication type, number of functional events and non-events, odds ratios and hazard ratios, and means and standard deviations were extracted. Random-effects meta-analyses were conducted for 21 studies examining functional outcomes. RESULTS 40 articles were included. The majority suggest a robust protective effect of ADHD medication treatment on mood disorders, suicidality, criminality, substance use disorders, accidents and injuries, traumatic brain injuries, motor vehicle crashes, and educational outcomes. Similarly, the meta-analyses demonstrated a protective effect of medication treatment on academic outcomes, accidents and injuries, and mood disorders. CONCLUSIONS These findings suggest that ADHD medication treatments are associated with decreases in the risks for a wide range of ADHD-associated functional outcomes supporting efforts aimed at early diagnosis and treatment of individuals with ADHD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the risk of psychiatric disorders after traumatic brain injury (TBI), and to clarify whether the post-TBI rehabilitation was associated with a lower risk of developing psychiatric disorders. DESIGN A register-based, retrospective cohort design. SETTING Using data from the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan, we established an exposed cohort with TBI and a nonexposed group without TBI matched by age and year of diagnosis between 2000 and 2015. PARTICIPANTS This study included 231,894 patients with TBI and 695,682 patients without TBI (N=927,576). INTERVENTIONS Rehabilitation therapies in TBI patients. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES A multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to compare the risk of developing psychiatric disorders. RESULTS The incidence rate of psychiatric disorders was higher in the TBI group than the control group. Compared with the control group, the risk of psychiatric disorders in the TBI group was twofold (hazard ratio [HR]=2.072; 95% confidence interval [95% CI], 1.955-2.189; P<.001). Among the participants with TBI, 49,270 (21.25%) had received rehabilitation therapy and had a lower risk of psychiatric disorders (HR=0.691; 95% CI, 0.679-0.703; P<.001). In the subgroup analysis, the medium- to high-level intensity rehabilitation therapy was associated with lower risks of psychiatric disorder (HR=0.712 and 0.568, respectively), but there was no significant finding in the low-intensity group. CONCLUSIONS We found that TBI was associated with a high risk for developing psychiatric disorders, and that the post-TBI rehabilitation significantly reduced the risk of psychiatric disorders in a dose-dependent manner.

Abstract
Psychotic experiences (PEs) have been linked to an increased risk for accidents and injuries. However, this association remains little researched in many countries. To address this research gap, the current study used cross-sectional data from the United States to examine the association between PEs and accidents, injuries, and poisoning in a general population sample. Data were analyzed from 2274 individuals who completed the psychosis screen as part of the National Comorbidity Survey Replication (NCS-R). Information was obtained on PEs (hallucinations and delusions) and the experience of past 12-month accidents, injuries, and poisoning. Logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association while adjusting for demographic variables and common mental disorders (CMDs). In a fully adjusted model past 12-month PEs were associated with almost three times higher odds for reporting accidents, injuries, and poisoning (odds ratio [OR]: 2.97, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.13-7.74). The results of this study indicate that PEs are associated with higher odds for accidents and injuries among adults in the United States. Research is now needed to determine the direction of this association and the factors linked to it.

Abstract
Background: Recent research has shown an increased risk of accidents and injuries in ADHD patients, which could potentially be reduced by stimulant treatment. Therefore, the first aim of our study was to evaluate the prevalence of adult ADHD in a trauma surgery population. The second aim was to investigate accident mechanisms and circumstances which could be specific to ADHD patients, in comparison to the general population. Methods: We screened 905 accident victims for ADHD using the ASRS 18-item self-report questionnaire. The basic demographic data and circumstances of the accidents were also assessed. Results: Prevalence of adult ADHD was found to be 6.18% in our trauma surgery patient sample. ADHD accident victims reported significantly higher rates of distraction, stress and overconfidence in comparison to non-ADHD accident victims. Overconfidence and being in thoughts as causal mechanisms for the accidents remained significantly higher in ADHD patients after correction for multiple comparison. ADHD patients additionally reported a history of multiple accidents. Conclusion: The majority of ADHD patients in our sample had not previously been diagnosed and were therefore not receiving treatment. The results subsequently suggest that general ADHD screening in trauma surgery patients may be useful in preventing further accidents in ADHD patients. Furthermore, psychoeducation regarding specific causal accident mechanisms could be implemented in ADHD therapy to decrease accident incidence rate.

Abstract
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) medication is one of the most commonly prescribed medication classes in child and adolescent psychiatry, and its use is increasing rapidly in adult psychiatry. However, major questions and concerns remain regarding the benefits and risks of ADHD medication, especially in real-world settings. We conducted a qualitative systematic review of studies that investigated the effects of ADHD medication on behavioral and neuropsychiatric outcomes using linked prescription databases from the last 10 years and identified 40 studies from Europe, North America, and Asia. Among them, 18 used within-individual designs to account for confounding by indication. These studies suggested short-term beneficial effects of ADHD medication on several behavioral or neuropsychiatric outcomes (i.e., injuries, motor vehicle accidents, education, substance use disorder), with estimates suggesting relative risk reduction of 9% to 58% for these outcomes. The within-individual studies found no evidence of increased risks for suicidality and seizures. Replication studies are needed for several other important outcomes (i.e., criminality, depression, mania, psychosis). The available evidence from pharmacoepidemiology studies on long-term effects of ADHD medication was less clear. We discuss time-varying confounding and other limitations that should be considered when interpreting results from pharmacoepidemiology studies. Furthermore, we highlight several knowledge gaps to be addressed in future research and implications for research on mechanisms of outcomes of ADHD medications.

Abstract
This study aims to investigate the association between pulmonary embolism (PE) and the risk of psychiatric disorders. A total of 21,916 patients aged ≥20 years with PE between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2015, were selected from the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan, along with 65,748 (1:3) controls matched for sex and age. Cox regression model revealed the crude HR was 1.539 (95% CI 1.481 to 1.599; p<0.001), and after adjusting all the covariates, the adjusted HR was 1.704 (95% CI 1.435 to 1.991, p<0.001), for the risk of psychiatric disorders in the PE cohort. PE was associated with the overall psychiatric disorders, dementia, anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders, after the exclusion of the psychiatric diagnoses in the first year. PE was associated with the overall psychiatric disorders, dementia, anxiety, and depression, after the exclusion of the psychiatric diagnoses in the first 5 years. The patients with PE were associated with psychiatric disorders. This finding could serve as a reminder to the physicians to be more watchful and aware in the long-term follow-up of patients with PE for their care and potential mental health problems.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the association between adults with ADHD and the risk of developing dementia. METHOD Utilizing National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan, ADHD patients were identified and compared with age- and gender-matched controls (1:3). RESULTS Of the study participants, 37 (5.48%) developed dementia compared with 81 (4.0%) in the control group. Cox proportional hazards regression analysis revealed that the study participants were more likely to develop dementia. The crude hazard ratio (HR) is 3.418 (95% confidence interval [CI] = [2.289, 5.106], p < .001), and adjusted HR is 4.008 (95% CI = [2.526, 6.361], p < .001) in risk of developing dementia after adjusted for age, gender, comorbidities, geographical area of residence, urbanization level of residence, and monthly income. CONCLUSION Adults with ADHD have a 3.4-fold risk of developing dementia, and other large or national data sets should be explored to support the current findings.

Abstract
Introduction: In our study, we aimed to investigate the association between a traumatic
brain injury (TBI) and subsequent erectile dysfunction (ED). This is a
population-based study using the claims dataset from The National Health
Insurance Research Database. Methods: We included 72,642 patients with TBI aged over 20 years, retrospectively,
selected from the longitudinal health insurance database during 2000–2010,
according to the ICD-9-CM. The control group consisted of 217,872 patients
without TBI that were randomly chosen from the database at a ratio of 1:3,
with age- and index year matched. Cox proportional hazards analysis was used
to estimate the association between the TBI and subsequent ED. Results: After a 10-year follow-up, the incidence rate of ED was higher in the TBI
patients when compared with the non-TBI control group (24.66 and 19.07 per
100,000, respectively). Patients with TBI had a higher risk of developing ED
than the non-TBI cohort after the adjustment of the confounding factors,
such as age, comorbidity, residence of urbanization and locations, seasons,
level of care, and insured premiums (adjusted hazard ratio (HR) = 2.569, 95%
CI [1.890, 3.492], p < .001). Conclusion: This is the first study using a comprehensive nationwide database to analyze
the association of ED and TBI in the Asian population. After adjusted the
confounding factors, patients with TBI have a significantly higher risk of
developing ED, especially organic ED, than the general population. This
finding might remind clinicians that it’s crucial in early identification
and treatment of ED in post-TBI patients.

Effectiveness of Pharmacological Treatment for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder on Physical Injuries: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies. Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are more prone to physical injuries, including motor vehicle accidents, fractures and brain injuries. Several observational studies have been published investigating the association between the use of pharmacological treatment for ADHD and the incidence of physical injuries among patients with ADHD; however, the findings are not concordant. OBJECTIVE This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis of the existing literature and estimates the overall association between the use of ADHD medications and physical injury. Injury is defined as medically attended physical injuries in the form of hospitalisations, emergency department visits or general practitioners visits. METHODS The PubMed, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL and Cochrane Review databases were searched for relevant studies published up to May 2017 relating to ADHD medication and risk of injuries. Observational studies with any study design, all age groups (children and adults) and all ADHD medications (stimulant and non-stimulants) were included. Studies relevant to the association between ADHD medication exposure and risk of injuries in ADHD patients were extracted and compiled for meta-analysis. Both within-individual and between-individual analyses were conducted. RESULTS Overall, 2001 citations were identified and 10 observational studies were included. Three self-controlled case series and two self-controlled cohorts were eligible for meta-analysis of within-individual studies. Five cohort studies were included in the meta-analysis of between-individual studies. The adjusted rate ratio of the within-individual methods was 0.76 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.61-0.93) and 0.88 (95% CI 0.85-0.92) for between-individual studies. CONCLUSION The findings of this meta-analysis support a reduced risk of injuries among ADHD patients who were treated with ADHD medications.
