The impact of transformational leadership on challenging influence strategies: an approach using structural equation models

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to identify the impact that transformational leadership has on challenging influence strategies in business leaders of the micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) of the state of Guanajuato, Mexico.

Design/methodology/approach

The methodological design was quantitative, explanatory, observational and cross-sectional, where a sample of 343 leaders from the business sector of the MSMEs of the state of Guanajuato, Mexico was obtained. To check the hypotheses, a structural equation model (SEM) was developed using the AMOS v.21 statistical software. For the analysis of the data, SPSS v.21 was used. Regarding the goodness and fit indexes of the SEM (χ2 = 595,133 df = 244; CFI = 0.914 and TLI = 0.903; RMSEA = 0.06), which were acceptable (Jöreskog and Sörbom, 1981; López-Lemus and Zavala, 2019; Rigdon, 1996; Tucker and Lewis, 1973).

Findings

The results obtained through the present study, it is shown that leadership and transformational influences positively and significantly on challenging influence strategies: rational (β1 = 0.53, p < 0.01), inspiring (β2 = 0.65, p < 0.01) as well as the strategy of participatory influence (β3 = 0.62, p < 0.01) of the business leaders of the MSMEs of the state of Guanajuato, Mexico.

Originality/value

The findings are relevant and of great value because there is currently not enough research that focuses on the variables analysed on the leadership and influence strategies of business leaders of the MSMEs in the context of the state of Guanajuato, Mexico.

Revisión sistemática de estudios empíricos en el liderazgo electrónico

El objetivo de la presente investigación es realizar una revisión sistemática de los estudios empíricos organizacionales cuya temática central fuera el liderazgo electrónico. Para esto, la revisión siguió los lineamientos y recomendaciones de PROSPERO. Las bases de datos consultadas fueron Scopus, Dimensions, Science Direct, Ebsco Host, Web of Science y Proquest. En total, se revisaron 21 estudios empíricos, en español y en inglés, publicados entre los años 2012 al 2021, que cumplían con los criterios de selección. La mayoría de los estudios sugieren que se realicen investigaciones empíricas en diferentes países y en organizaciones en sectores económicos variados; además el liderazgo electrónico es una opción para aquellos que requieren contar con talentos que por su ubicación geográfica están dispersos y afianzar alianzas inter-organizativas fomentando la creación de equipos virtuales y alcanzar un mayor desempeño laboral y por consiguiente de la organización. Al final se discuten sus implicaciones y limitaciones.

Characterization of young graduates perceiving underemployement: Assessment of well-being and discomfort associated with this perception

Previous research has shown that subjective underemployment is inversely associated to job satisfaction, psychological well-being and health. To our knowledge, the current is the first study that explores subjective underemployment in undergraduates in Colombia. One hundred and forty-two workers participated in a correlational, and comparative study. Results replicated previous findings: as subjective underemployment perception increased, job satisfaction and general life satisfaction decreased. Significant differences were found in the indicators of job satisfaction and general life satisfaction among those who perceive underemployment and those who do not. Finally, the potential role of subjective underemployment on employees’ health is discussed.

The Relationship between Self-Employed Workers' Entrepreneurial Attitude and Health Status

In the new work environment, self-employment as a formula and entrepreneurship as an attitude have gained prominence as a means to foster a more competitive economy and increase employment opportunities. Having an entrepreneurial attitude, in addition to being positive on a work level, can also have positive effects on the health of the entrepreneur. The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between an entrepreneurial attitude and its influence on the general health of Spanish self-employed workers who possess these skills, compared to those who lack them. A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out through random sampling of 1148 self-employed professionals throughout Spain from 21 different economic sectors. The results show the existence of a negative relationship between entrepreneurial attitude and age, that is to say, an entrepreneurial attitude decreases with age. With the sex variable, women show less entrepreneurial attitude and with mental health, decreased mental health was shown in those with a greater entrepreneurial attitude. On the other hand, there is a positive linearity between a positive attitude and the social function of the state of health.
