Abstract
Although not necessary for the vast majority of ultrasound-guided procedures, intravenous contrast agents can be useful for procedures aimed at lesions that require contrast enhancement to be seen on ultrasonography. Using contrast-enhanced ultrasonography to guide procedures has two drawbacks: first, because enhancement from ultrasound contrast agents is short lived, it is often necessary to plan several injections; second, because the needle is poorly seen on contrast-enhanced ultrasonography, a dual image display format is necessary. Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography can be used for planning and monitoring diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, for guiding the procedures, and for follow-up. Using contrast-enhanced ultrasonography enables better results in both types of procedures; moreover, it can be used within cavities.

Abstract
Interventional radiology procedures have become a fundamental part of radiology, resulting in faster diagnoses and in safer, more effective, and more precise treatments, all of which are important, and even more so when referring to urgent situations, where time is of the essence. In this context, the use of ultrasound to guide interventional procedures enables real-time viewing in multiple planes that can be done at the patient's bedside, which is a great advantage in critical patients. We review the indications and technical aspects of the most common procedures related with radiological care of urgent patients.

Abstract
Ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy (CNB) has been increasingly used for the pre-operative diagnosis of thyroid nodules. Since the Korean Society of the Thyroid Radiology published the ‘Consensus Statement and Recommendations for Thyroid CNB’ in 2017 and the Korean Endocrine Pathology Thyroid CNB Study Group published ‘Pathology Reporting of Thyroid Core Needle Biopsy’ in 2015, advances have occurred rapidly not only in the management guidelines for thyroid nodules but also in the diagnostic terminology and classification schemes. The Clinical Practice Guidelines Development Committee of the Korean Thyroid Association (KTA) reviewed publications on thyroid CNB from 1995 to September 2019 and updated the recommendations and statements for the diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules using CNB. Recommendations for the resolution of clinical controversies regarding the use of CNB were based on expert opinion. These practical guidelines include recommendations and statements regarding indications for CNB, patient preparation, CNB technique, biopsy-related complications, biopsy specimen preparation and processing, and pathology interpretation and reporting of thyroid CNB.

Abstract
Puerperal hematoma is one of the life threatening obstetrical emergencies. Surgical ligation of bleeding vessel may not always be possible for the patients who were hemodynamically unstable, hence pelvic arterial angiography may be preferred as the first line treatment modality for these cases. Pelvic arterial angiography and embolization is a safe, tolerable, and minimally invasive treatment modality in the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic hemorrhage. We present a case of puerperal hematoma after a normal spontaneous delivery treated with bilateral iliac arterial embolization.

Abstract
Core needle biopsy (CNB) has been suggested as a complementary diagnostic method to fine-needle aspiration in patients with thyroid nodules. Many recent CNB studies have suggested a more advanced role for CNB, but there are still no guidelines on its use. Therefore, the Task Force Committee of the Korean Society of Thyroid Radiology has developed the present consensus statement and recommendations for the role of CNB in the diagnosis of thyroid nodules. These recommendations are based on evidence from the current literature and expert consensus.

Abstract
Ultrasonography has become extremely useful in the evaluation of masses in the head and neck. It enables us to determine the anatomic location of the masses as well as the characteristics of the tissues that compose them, thus making it possible to orient the differential diagnosis toward inflammatory, neoplastic, congenital, traumatic, or vascular lesions, although it is necessary to use computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging to determine the complete extension of certain lesions. The growing range of interventional procedures, mostly guided by ultrasonography, now includes biopsies, drainages, infiltrations, sclerosing treatments, and tumor ablation.

Abstract
Anastomoses often leak after esophageal surgery; if they are not detected in time, leaks can give rise to complications like fluid collections, superinfections, and mediastinitis. Although these complications usually require surgical treatment, different series of patients successfully treated with conservative or minimally invasive approaches have been reported. We present the case of a patient who developed a mediastinal abscess after epiphrenic diverticulectomy. We treated the abscess with US-guided percutaneous transhepatic drainage to avoid surgical reintervention. Although other cases of a transhepatic approach to thoracic lesions have been reported, to our knowledge this is the first report of this technique in mediastinal abscesses. We recommend that transhepatic drainage be considered a therapeutic option in the management of these complications.
