Synthesis, molecular structure, spectroscopic studies and second-order nonlinear optical behaviour of N,N'-(2-hydroxy-propane-1,3-diyl)-bis(5-nitrosalicylaldiminato-N,O)-copper(II)

Mixed-Valent Trinuclear CoIII-CoII-CoIII Complex with 1,3-Bis(5-chlorosalicylideneamino)-2-propanol

A mixed-valent trinuclear complex with 1,3-bis(5-chlorosalicylideneamino)-2-propanol (H₃clsalpr) was synthesized, and the crystal structure was determined by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction method at 90 K. The molecule is a trinuclear Co^III-Co^II-Co^III complex with octahedral geometries, having a tetradentate chelate of the Schiff-base ligand, bridging acetate, monodentate acetate coordination to each terminal Co³⁺ ion and four bridging phenoxido-oxygen of two Schiff-base ligands, and two bridging acetate-oxygen atoms for the central Co²⁺ ion. The electronic spectral feature is consistent with the mixed valent Co^III-Co^II-Co^III. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility data could be analyzed by consideration of the axial distortion of the central Co²⁺ ion with the parameters Δ = –254 cm⁻¹, λ = –58 cm⁻¹, κ = 0.93, tip = 0.00436 cm³ mol⁻¹, θ = –0.469 K, g_z = 6.90, and g_x = 2.64, in accordance with a large anisotropy. The cyclic voltammogram showed an irreversible reduction wave at approximately −1.2 V·vs. Fc/Fc⁺, assignable to the reduction of the terminal Co³⁺ ions.

Molecular structure, vibrational spectra, NLO and MEP analysis of bis[2-hydroxy-кO-N-(2-pyridyl)-1-naphthaldiminato-кN]zinc(II)

The molecular geometry and vibrational frequencies of bis[2-hydroxy-кO-N-(2-pyridyl)-1-naphthaldiminato-кN]zinc(II) in the ground state have been calculated by using the Hartree-Fock (HF) and density functional method (B3LYP) with 6-311G(d,p) basis set. The results of the optimized molecular structure are presented and compared with the experimental X-ray diffraction. The energetic and atomic charge behavior of the title compound in solvent media has been examined by applying the Onsager and the polarizable continuum model. To investigate second order nonlinear optical properties of the title compound, the electric dipole (μ), linear polarizability (α) and first-order hyperpolarizability (β) were computed using the density functional B3LYP and CAM-B3LYP methods with the 6-31+G(d) basis set. According to our calculations, the title compound exhibits nonzero (β) value revealing second order NLO behavior. In addition, DFT calculations of the title compound, molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), frontier molecular orbitals, and thermodynamic properties were performed at B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level of theory.

{5,5′-Dihydroxy-2,2′-[(2-hydroxypropane-1,3-diyl)bis(nitrilomethanylylidene)]diphenolato}nickel(II) dihydrate

In the title complex, [Ni(C₁₇H₁₆N₂O₅)]·2H₂O, the Ni^II ion is four-coordinated by two azomethine N and two phenolato O atoms of the tetradentate Schiff base ligand in a slightly distorted square-planar geometry. In the six-membered ring containing the metal, the azomethine N atoms and the three C atoms of the connecting 1,3-di­amino­propane-2-ol, all atoms except the metal are disordered over two sets of sites with an occupacy ratio of 0.566 (3):0.434 (3). The central C atom of the major component is significantly out of the mean plane of the remaing atoms while the conformation of this ring in the minor component is noticeably different. In the crystal, O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving the lattice water mol­ecules and the hy­droxy groups are observed.

Molecular structure, spectroscopic investigations, second-order nonlinear optical properties and intramolecular proton transfer of (E)-5-(diethylamino)-2-[(4-propylphenylimino)methyl]phenol: a combined experimental and theoretical study

This work presents a combined experimental and theoretical study on an ortho-hydroxy Schiff base compound, (E)-5-(diethylamino)-2-[(4-propylphenylimino)methyl]phenol. The crystal structure and spectroscopic properties of the compound have been determined by using X-ray diffraction, IR and UV-vis spectroscopy techniques. The electronic structure, vibrational frequencies and electronic absorption spectra have been investigated from the calculative point of view. A relaxed potential energy surface scan has been performed based on the optimized geometry of OH tautomeric form to describe the potential energy barrier belonging to intramolecular proton transfer and to observe the effects of transfer on the molecular geometry. The second-order nonlinear optical properties have been investigated based on the first static hyperpolarizability (β) by using the density functional theory.
