Mononuclear versus dinuclear complex formation in nickel(II) sulfate/phenyl(2-pyridyl)ketone oxime chemistry depending on the ligand to metal reaction ratio: synthetic, spectral and structural studies

Synthesis and Characterization of Zn(II) Complex of 4-chloro-2-(((2-phenoxyphenyl)imino)methyl)phenol and its Biological Efficacies: DNA Interaction, ADMET, DFT and Molecular Docking Study

Condensing 2-phenoxyaniline with 5-chlorosalicyldehyde under reflux conditions, a 4-chloro-2-(((2-phenoxyphenyl)imino)methyl)phenol Schiff base has been Synthesized. A zinc complex was synthesized by combining the ligand in a 1:1 molar ratio with zinc sulphateheptahydrate. Mass spectroscopy, NMR, infrared, and elemental analysis were used to characterize the ligand and zinc complex. By measuring the molar conductance, the non-electrolytic character of the complex was confirmed. The zinc ion is coordinated in a pentadentate manner, according to an IR and NMR investigation. Viscosity measurements, absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy were utilized to examine the complex's interaction with CT (calf thymus) DNA. Furthermore, the ligand and complex's ADMET characteristics were ascertained through the use of ADMET (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, and Toxicity) study. Calculation of the different electronic parameters of the optimized structure through Density Functional Theory (DFT) indicated the stability of the Zn(II) complex. Molecular docking study reflected the future opportunity for the consideration of Zn(II) complex to fight against Alzheimer and Glaucoma diseases.

A novel sulfate-bridged binuclear copper(ii) complex: structure, optical, ADMET and in vivo approach in a murine model of bone metastasis

Modeling the Solvent Extraction of Cadmium(II) from Aqueous Chloride Solutions by 2-pyridyl Ketoximes: A Coordination Chemistry Approach

The goal of this work is to model the nature of the chemical species [CdCl₂(extractant)₂] that are formed during the solvent (or liquid-liquid) extraction of the toxic cadmium(II) from chloride-containing aqueous media using hydrophobic 2-pyridyl ketoximes as extractants. Our coordination chemistry approach involves the study of the reactions between cadmium(II) chloride dihydrate and phenyl 2-pyridyl ketoxime (phpaoH) in water-containing acetone. The reactions have provided access to complexes [CdCl₂(phpaoH)₂]∙H₂O (1∙H₂O) and {[CdCl₂(phpaoH)]}_n (2); the solid-state structures of which have been determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. In both complexes, phpaoH behaves as an N,N'-bidentate chelating ligand. The complexes have been characterized by solid-state IR and Raman spectra, and by solution ¹H NMR spectra. The preparation and characterization of 1∙H₂O provide strong evidence for the existence of the species [CdCl₂(extractant)₂] that have been proposed to be formed during the liquid-liquid extraction process of Cd(II), allowing the efficient transfer of the toxic metal ion from the aqueous phase into the organic phase.

In search of molecules displaying ferromagnetic exchange: multiple-decker Ni12 and Ni16 complexes from the use of pyridine-2-amidoxime

The use of pyridine-2-amidoxime (pyaoxH₂) in Ni chemistry has provided access to a dodecanuclear complex and a hexadecanuclear Ni cluster, namely [Ni₁₂(pyaox)₆(pyaoxH)₆(MeOH)₂Cl₂]Cl₄·5MeOH (1·5MeOH) and [Ni₁₆(pyaox)₈(pyaoxH)₈(MeOH)₄](SO₄)₄·10H₂O·26MeOH (2·10H₂O·26MeOH). Complex 1·5MeOH was isolated by the reaction of NiCl₂·6H₂O, pyaoxH₂ and NaOMe in a 1 : 1 : 2 molar ratio in MeOH in 60% yield. Treatment of NiSO₄·6H₂O with pyaoxH₂ and NEt₃ in a 1 : 1 : 2 molar ratio in MeOH afforded 2·10H₂O·26MeOH in good yield (65%). The two compounds display a multi-decker configuration based on stacked Ni₄ layers, {Ni₄(pyaox)₂(pyaoxH)₂}²⁺_x (x = 3, 1·5MeOH; x = 4, 2·10H₂O·26MeOH); each deck consists of two square planar and two octahedral Ni^II centres. The number of decks observed in 1·5MeOH and 2·10H₂O·26MeOH depends on the nature of the inorganic anion that is present in the reaction system, which provides elements of synthetic control towards new high nuclearity Ni^II species. 2·10H₂O·26MeOH is the first structurally characterized complex of any metal displaying a quadruple-decker configuration, being also the highest nuclearity metal cluster bearing pyaoxH₂ and the highest nuclearity Ni^II cluster with any type of 2-pyridyl oxime. Each cluster cation displays ferromagnetic exchange between the octahedral Ni^II ions resulting in a spin ground state of S = 6 for 1 and S = 8 for 2. Magnetothermal studies have been performed and discussed for both clusters.

Nickel(II) complexes with methyl(2-pyridyl)ketone oxime: synthesis, crystal structures and DFT calculations

The synthesis and structural characterization of the three novel nickel(II) complexes [Ni(OOCPh)(2)(mpkoH)(2)] (1), [Ni(NO(3))(2)(mpkoH)(2)] (2) and [Ni(mpkoH)(3)](NO(3))(2)·½H(2)O (3·½H(2)O), with mpkoH=methyl(2-pyridyl)ketone oxime is reported. Geometry optimization and population analyses were performed by means of DFT calculations for the previously mentioned compounds as well as for [NiCl(2)(mpkoH)(2)] (4). Electronic UV-vis spectra were also simulated in the TD-DFT framework to assign the origin of the absorption bands and in doing so, to have a clear picture of the absorptive features of the coordination compounds under investigation.

Combining azide, carboxylate, and 2-pyridyloximate ligands in transition-metal chemistry: ferromagnetic Ni(II)5 clusters with a bowtie skeleton

The combined use of the anion of phenyl(2-pyridyl)ketone oxime (ppko(-)) and azides (N(3)(-)) in nickel(II) carboxylate chemistry has afforded two new Ni(II)(5) clusters, [Ni(5)(O(2)CR')(2)(N(3))(4)(ppko)(4)(MeOH)(4)] [R' = H (1), Me (2)]. The structurally unprecedented {Ni(5)(μ-N(3))(2)(μ(3)-N(3))(2)}(6+) cores of the two clusters are almost identical and contain the five Ni(II) atoms in a bowtie topology. Two N(3)(-) ions are end-on doubly bridging and the other two ions end-on triply bridging. The end-on μ(3)-N(3)(-) groups link the central Ni(II) atoms with the two peripheral metal ions on either side of the molecule, while the Ni···Ni bases of the triangles are each bridged by one end-on μ-N(3)(-) group. Variable-temperature, solid-state direct- (dc) and alternating-current (ac) magnetic susceptibility, and magnetization studies at 2.0 K were carried out on both complexes. The data indicate an overall ferromagnetic behavior and an S = 5 ground state for both compounds. The ac susceptibility studies on 1 reveal nonzero, frequency-dependent out-of-phase (χ(M)") signals at temperatures below ~3.5 K; complex 2 reveals no χ(M)" signals. However, single-crystal magnetization versus dc field scans at variable temperatures and variable sweep rates down to 0.04 K on 1 reveal no noticeable hysteresis loops, except very minor ones at 0.04 K assignable to weak intermolecular interactions propagated by nonclassical hydrogen bonds.

Mononuclear and Dinuclear Manganese(II) Complexes from the Use of Methyl(2-pyridyl)ketone Oxime

The reactions of methyl(2-pyridyl)ketone oxime, (py)C(Me)NOH, with manganese(II) sulfate monohydrate have been investigated. The reaction between equimolar quantities of MnSO₄ · H₂O and (py)C(Me)NOH in H₂O lead to the dinuclear complex [Mn₂(SO₄)₂{(py)C(Me)NOH}₄] · (py)C(Me)NOH, 1 · (py)C(Me)NOH, while employment of NaOMe as base affords the compound [Mn(HCO₂)₂{(py)C(Me)NOH}₂] (2). The structures of both compounds have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. In both complexes, the organic ligand chelates through its nitrogen atoms. The IR data are discussed in terms of the nature of bonding and the structures of the two complexes.
