Crystal Structure, Topology, DFT and Hirshfeld Surface Analysis of a Novel Charge Transfer Complex (L3) of Anthraquinone and 4-{[(Anthracen-9-yl)methyl] Amino}Benzoic Acid (L2) Exhibiting Photocatalytic Properties: An Experimental and Theoretical Approach. Molecules 2022; 27:molecules27051724. Abstract
Here, we report a facile route to the synthesizing of a new donor–acceptor complex, L3, using 4-{[(anthracen-9-yl)meth-yl] amino}-benzoic acid, L2, as donor moiety with anthraquinone as an acceptor moiety. The formation of donor–acceptor complex L3 was facilitated via H-bonding and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray diffraction results confirmed the synthesized donor–acceptor complex L3 crystal belongs to the triclinic system possessing the P-1 space group. The complex L3 was also characterized by other spectral techniques, viz., FTIR and UV absorption spectroscopy, which confirmed the formation of new bonds between donor L2 moiety and acceptor anthraquinone molecule. The crystallinity and thermal stability of the newly synthesized complex L3 was confirmed by powdered XRD and TGA analysis and theoretical studies; Hirshfeld surface analysis was performed to define the type of interactions occurring in the complex L3. Interestingly, theoretical results were successfully corroborated with experimental results of FTIR and UV absorption. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed for HOMO to LUMO; the energy gap (∆E) was calculated to be 3.6463 eV. The complex L3 was employed as a photocatalyst for the degradation of MB dye and was found to be quite efficient. The results showed MB dye degraded about 90% in 200 min and followed the pseudo-first-order kinetic with rate constant k = 0.0111 min−1 and R2 = 0.9596. Additionally, molecular docking reveals that the lowest binding energy was −10.8 Kcal/mol which indicates that the L3 complex may be further studied for its biological applications.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the utility of inexpensive techniques in evaluating the interactions of risperidone (Ris) with different traditional -acceptors, with subsequent application of the findings into a Ris pharmaceutical formulation with improved therapeutic properties. Molecular docking calculations were performed using Ris and its different charge-transfer complexes (CT) with picric acid (PA), 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyanop-benzoquinon (DDQ), tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ), tetracyano ethylene (TCNE), tetrabromo-pquinon (BL), and tetrachloro-p-quinon (CL), as donors, and three receptors (serotonin, dopamine, and adrenergic) as acceptors to study the comparative interactions among them. To refine the docking results and further investigate the molecular processes of receptor–ligand interactions, a molecular dynamics simulation was run with output obtained from AutoDock Vina. Among all investigated complexes, the [(Ris) (PA)]-serotonin (CTcS) complex showed the highest binding energy. Molecular dynamics simulation of the 100 ns run revealed that both the Ris-serotonin (RisS) and CTcS complexes had a stable conformation; however, the CTcS complex was more stable.

Abstract
Around the world, the antibiotic azithromycin (AZM) is currently being used to treat the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in conjunction with hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine. Investigating the chemical and physical properties of compounds used alone or in combination to combat the COVID-19 pandemic is of vital and pressing importance. The purpose of this study was to characterize the charge transfer (CT) complexation of AZM with iodine in four different solvents: CH2Cl2, CHCl3, CCl4, and C6H5Cl. AZM reacted with iodine at a 1:1 M ratio (AZM to I2) in the CHCl3 solvent and a 1:2 M ratio in the other three solvents, as evidenced by data obtained from an elemental analysis of the solid CT products and spectrophotometric titration and Job's continuous variation method for the soluble CT products. Data obtained from UV-visible and Raman spectroscopies indicated that AZM strongly interacted with iodine in the CH2Cl2, CCl4, and C6H5Cl solvents by a physically potent n→σ* interaction to produce a tri-iodide complex formulated as [AZM·I+]I3 -. XRD and TEM analyses revealed that, in all solvents, the AZM-I2 complex possessed an amorphous structure composed of spherical particles ranging from 80 to 110 nm that tended to aggregate into clusters. The findings described in the present study will hopefully contribute to optimizing the treatment protocols for COVID-19.

Abstract
Molecular charge-transfer interaction of a series of electron π-acceptors of 1,4-benzoquinone (BQ), 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ) and Tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) with selected donors of 1-phenyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (PTHIQ) and 4-aminoacetanilide (ACE) have been studied in methanol at room temperature. The stoichiometry of the complexes was determined by photometric titration method and was found to be 1:1, in all the cases. Spectro-kinetic interaction studies along with rate constants and observed formation constants (K) indicated that the strength of the complex formations is PTHIQ-BQ < PTHIQ-DDQ < PTHIQ-TCNQ. Also, Similar observations happened in ACE-BQ and < ACE-DDQ < ACE-TCNQ systems. FT-IR results indicated that the point of interaction was identifying in NH moiety of PTHIQ and NH2 moiety of ACE with series of π-acceptor complexes. The experimental results were compared with Ab initio DFT calculations at the B3LYP/6-31 + G(d) level of theory. The increasing order of the experimentally measured formation constant of CT-complexes (PTHIQ and ACE with series of acceptors) was well supported by theoretical HOMO-LUMO energy gap and drastically changes in Mulliken charges of NH moiety of PTHIQ, NH2 moiety of ACE with complexation with acceptors.

Abstract
The charge-transfer complexes have scientific relevance because this type of molecular interaction is at the basis of the activity of pharmacological compounds and because the absorption bands of the complexes can be used for the quantification of electron donor molecules. This work aims to assess the stability of the charge-transfer complexes between the electron acceptor 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ) and two drugs, procaine and atenolol, in acetonitrile and ethanol. The stability of DDQ in solution and the time required to obtain the maximum complex formation were evaluated. The stoichiometry and the stability of the complexes were determined, respectively, by Job's plot method and by the elaboration of UV-vis titrations data. The latter task was carried out by using the non-linear global analysis approach to determine the equilibrium constants. This approach to data elaboration allowed us to overcome the disadvantages of the classical linear-regression method, to obtain reliable values of the association constants and to calculate the entire spectra of the complexes. NMR spectra were recorded to identify the portion of the donor molecule that was involved in the interaction. The data support the participation of the aliphatic amino groups in complex formation and exclude the involvement of the aromatic amine present in the procaine molecule.

Abstract
The reaction of 1,4-benzoquinone (BQ) with crizotinib (CZT); a novel drug used for treatment of non-small cell lung cancer) was investigated in different solvents of varying dielectric constants and polarity indexes. The reaction resulted in the formation of a red-colored product. Spectrophotometric investigations confirmed that the reaction proceeded through charge-transfer (CT) complex formation. The molar absorptivity of the complex was found to be linearly correlated with the dielectric constant and polarity index of the solvent; the correlation coefficients were 0.9425 and 0.8340, respectively. The stoichiometric ratio of BQ:CZT was found to be 2:1 and the association constant of the complex was found to be 0.26×10(3)lmol(-1). The kinetics of the reaction was studied; the order of the reaction, rate and rate constant were determined. Computational molecular modeling for the complex between BQ and CZT was conducted, the sites of interaction on CZT molecule were determined, and the mechanism of the reaction was postulated. The reaction was employed as a basis in the development of a novel 96-microwell assay for CZT. The assay limits of detection and quantitation were 5.2 and 15.6μgml(-1), respectively. The assay was validated as per the guidelines of the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) and successfully applied to the analysis of CZT in its bulk and capsules with good accuracy and precision. The assay has high throughput and consumes minimum volume of organic solvent thus it reduces the exposures of the analysts to the toxic effects of organic solvents, and significantly reduces the analysis cost.

Abstract
Charge transfer complexes of loperamide hydrochloride (LOP.HCl) and trimebutine (TB) drugs as electron donor with 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-p-benzoquinone (DDQ), tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) and 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) as π-acceptors in acetonitrile were investigated spectrophotometrically to determine the cited drugs in pure and dosage forms. The reaction gives highly coloured complex species which are measured spectrophotometrically at 460, 415 and 842nm in case of LOP.HCl and at 455, 414 and 842nm in case of TB using DDQ, TCNE and TCNQ reagents, respectively. The optimum experimental conditions have been studied carefully and optimized. Beer's law was obeyed over the concentration ranges of 47.70-381.6, 21.50-150.5 and 10.00-100.0μgmL(-1) for LOP.HCl and 37.85-264.9, 38.75-310.0 and 7.75-155.0μgmL(-1) for TB using DDQ, TCNE and TCNQ reagents, respectively. Sandell sensitivity, standard deviation, relative standard deviation, limit of detection and quantification were calculated. The obtained data refer to high accuracy and precision of the proposed method. These results are also confirmed by inter and intra-day precision with percent recovery of 99.18-101.1% and 99.32-101.4% in case of LOP.HCl and 98.00-102.0% and 97.50-101.4% in case of TB using DDQ, TCNE and TCNQ reagents for intra- and inter-day, respectively. These data were compared with those obtained using official methods for the determination of the cited drugs. The stability constants of the CT complexes were determined. The final products of the reaction were isolated and characterized using FT-IR, (1)H NMR, elemental analysis and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). The stoichiometry and apparent formation constant of the complexes formed were determined by applying the conventional spectrophotometric molar ratio method.

Abstract
The reaction of 2,3-dichloro-1,4-naphthoquinone (DCNQ) with crizotinib (CZT; a novel drug used for treatment of non-small cell lung cancer) was investigated in different solvents of varying dielectric constants and polarity indexes. The reaction produced a red-colored product. Spectrophotometric investigations confirmed that the reaction proceeded through charge-transfer (CT) complex formation. The molar absorptivity of the complex was found to be linearly correlated with the dielectric constant and polarity index of the solvent; the correlation coefficients were 0.9567 and 0.9069, respectively. The stoichiometric ratio of DCNQ:CZT was found to be 2:1 and the association constant of the complex was found to be 1.07 × 10(2) l/mol. The kinetics of the reaction was studied; the order of the reaction, rate and rate constant were determined. Computational molecular modeling for the complex between DCNQ and CZT was conducted, the sites of interaction on CZT molecule were determined, and the mechanism of the reaction was postulated. The reaction was employed as a basis in the development of a novel 96-microwell assay for CZT in a linear range of 4-500 μg/ml. The assay limits of detection and quantitation were 2.06 and 6.23 μg/ml, respectively. The assay was validated as per the guidelines of the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) and successfully applied to the analysis of CZT in its bulk and capsules with good accuracy and precision. The assay has high throughput and consumes a minimum volume of organic solvents thus it reduces the exposures of the analysts to the toxic effects of organic solvents, and significantly reduces the analysis cost.

Abstract
The target of this paper is aimed to discuss the fast and newly techniques in order to assessment the metoclopramide (Mcp) nausea drug in pure form in solid and solution shape with different kind of π-acceptors upon charge transfer interactions. Charge-transfer complexes (CTC) of metoclopramide with picric acid (PA), 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-p-benzoquinon (DDQ), tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ), m-dinitrobenzene (DNB), p-nitrobenzoic acid (p-NBA) and tetrachloro-p-quinon (p-CL) have been studied spectrophotometrically in absolute methanol at room temperature. The stoichiometries of the complexes were found to be 1:1 ratio by the spectrophotometric titration between metoclopramide and represented π-acceptors. The equilibrium constants, molar extinction coefficient (εCT) and spectroscopic-physical parameters (standard free energy (ΔG°), oscillator strength (ƒ), transition dipole moment (μ), resonance energy (RN) and ionization potential (ID)) of the complexes were determined upon the modified Benesi-Hildebrand equation. The results indicate that the formation constants for the complexes depend on the nature of electron acceptors and configuration of drug donor, and also the spectral studies of the complexes were determined by (infrared, Raman, and (1)H NMR) spectra and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The charge-transfer complexes are formed during the interaction of electron-acceptors and electron-donors as result of partial or complete transfer of a negative charge from (D(+)-A(-)).

Abstract
For the first time, the charge transfer (CT) complexes of quinones in aqueous medium have been reported. A series of novel water soluble 1,4-benzoquinones possessing variable number of chloro and methoxy substituents has been employed as electron acceptors (MQ1-4) in the CT complexation with cimetidine (CTD) drug. The mechanism of the interaction has been investigated using various spectral techniques such as UV-Vis, (1)H NMR and FT-IR spectra. The rate of the CT interaction was observed to decrease with progressive replacement of chloro by methoxy substituent in the quinone and this variation is well supported by the formation constant and enthalpy of activation values. Ab initio DFT calculations predicted that the variation in the bond lengths of the carbonyl moieties and the charge densities on the carbonyl oxygen atoms depend largely on the nature of the substituent present in the quinone ring. Also, the HOMO(Donor)-LUMO(Acceptor) energy gaps correlate linearly with the formation constants of the CT complex. The equilibrium, kinetic, electrochemical and theoretical investigations of the CT interaction of these quinones indicated that progressive replacement of electron withdrawing chlorine atom (-I effect) by an electron releasing methoxy group (+M effect) makes these acceptors progressively weaker. The charge-transfer complex, formed between CTD and monomethoxy quinone derivative, has been employed as a new class of chromogenic sensor for the colorimetric sensing of fluoride and acetate ions.

Abstract
The interactions of Fe(II)Pc and Fe(III)Pc with π-acceptor 2,3,5,6-tetrachloro-1,4-benzoquinone (p-chloranil, p-CHL) have been investigated spectroscopically (UV/vis and FT-IR) and spectrofluorimetrically at three different temperatures. The stoichiometry of the complexes was found to be 1:1. The results of electronic spectral studies indicated that the formation constant for Fe(II)Pc-p-CHL system is found to be higher than that for Fe(III)Pc-p-CHL system. This observation is well supported by the results of fluorescence quenching studies and the association constants calculated for Fe(II)Pc-p-CHL system is 4.2 × 10(3) mol L(-1) and that for Fe(III)Pc-p-CHL system is 2.2 × 10(3) mol L(-1). The data are discussed in terms of physico-chemical parameters viz. molar extinction coefficient, oscillator strength, dipole moment, ionization potential, dissociation energy and thermodynamic parameters. The results indicated that the formation of π-π CT complex is spontaneous and endothermic. Preliminary studies indicated that the CT complex can effectively be used as a colorimetric agent for sensing amino acids and amines.

Abstract
A two new charge transfer complexes formed from the interactions between o-tolidine (o-TOL) and picric (PA) or chloranilic (CA) acids, with the compositions, [(o-TOL)(PA)(2)] and [(o-TOL)(CA)(2)] have been prepared. The (13)C NMR, (1)H NMR, (1)H-Cosy, and IR show that the charge-transfer chelation occurs via the formation of chain structures O-H⋯N intermolecular hydrogen bond between 2NH(2) groups of o-TOL molecule and OH group in each PA or CA units. Photometric titration measurements concerning the two reactions in methanol were performed and the measurements show that the donor-acceptor molar ratio was found to be 1:2 using the modified Benesi-Hildebrand equation. The spectroscopic data were discussed in terms of formation constant, molar extinction coefficient, oscillator strength, dipole moment, standard free energy, and ionization potential. Thermal behavior of both charge transfer complexes showed that the complexes were more stable than their parents. The thermodynamic parameters were estimated from the differential thermogravimetric curves. The results indicated that the formation of molecular charge transfer complexes is spontaneous and endothermic.

Abstract
The charge-transfer complex (CTC) of ciprofloxacin drug (CIP) as a donor with iodine (I(2)) as a sigma acceptor has been studied spectrophotometrically in CHCl(3). At maximum absorption bands, the stoichiometry of CIP:iodine system was found to be 1:1 ratio according to molar ratio method. The essential spectroscopic data like formation constant (K(CT)), molar extinction coefficient (ɛ(CT)), standard free energy (ΔG°), oscillator strength (f), transition dipole moment (μ), resonance energy (R(N)) and ionization potential (I(D)) were estimated. The spectroscopic techniques such as IR, (1)H NMR, mass and UV-vis spectra and elemental analyses (CHN) as well as TG-DTG and DTA investigations were used to characterize the chelating behavior of CIP/iodine charge-transfer complex. The iodine CT interaction was associated with a presence of intermolecular hydrogen bond. The X-ray investigation was carried out to investigate the iodine doping in the synthetic CT complex.
