Molecular structure and vibrational assignments of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid herbicide

Theoretical study of the structure, spectroscopic properties and anti-cancer activity of tetrahydrochromeno[4,3-b]quinolines

In the present work, a theoretical study of the geometrical structures and spectroscopic (IR, 1H and [Formula: see text]C NMR, UV-visible) properties, and anti-cancer activity of cis-fused tetrahydrochromeno[4,3-b]quinolines have been performed. The equilibrium geometries have been optimized at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) computational level and the present study puts in evidence the stability preference of the cis stereoisomers in comparison with the trans ones as expected experimentally. The vibrational frequencies and IR spectra were calculated at the same level of theory and compared to experimental FT-IR spectra and the spectral peaks have been assigned on the basis of potential energy distribution results. UV-visible absorption bands were calculated using the TD-DFT/B3LYP/6-31G(d) method. The [Formula: see text]C nuclear magnetic resonance chemical shifts and the coupling constants were calculated at the B3LYP level using the gauge independent atomic orbital (GIAO) method in chloroform solvent. The 1H chemical shifts were calculated using the recently proposed WP04/6-31G(d) DFT functional. The visualization of the molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) surfaces and the docking simulation show that the absence of the methyl group at 2-position of tetrahydrochromeno[4,3-b]quinoline moiety is responsible of the potential anti-cancer activity of this compound.

Spectroscopic (FT-IR, FT-Raman, UV and NMR) investigation on 1-phenyl-2-nitropropene by quantum computational calculations

In this paper, the spectral analysis of 1-phenyl-2-nitropropene is carried out using the FTIR, FT Raman, FT NMR and UV-Vis spectra of the compound with the help of quantum mechanical computations using ab-initio and density functional theories. The FT-IR (4000-400 cm(-1)) and FT-Raman (4000-100 cm(-1)) spectra were recorded in solid phase, the (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra were recorded in CDCl3 solution phase and the UV-Vis (200-800 nm) spectrum was recorded in ethanol solution phase. The different conformers of the compound and their minimum energies are studied using B3LYP functional with 6-311+G(d,p) basis set and two stable conformers with lowest energy were identified and the same was used for further computations. The computed wavenumbers from different methods are scaled so as to agree with the experimental values and the scaling factors are reported. All the modes of vibrations are assigned and the structure the molecule is analyzed in terms of parameters like bond length, bond angle and dihedral angle predicted by both B3LYP and B3PW91 methods with 6-311+G(d,p) and 6-311++G(d,p) basis sets. The values of dipole moment (μ), polarizability (α) and hyperpolarizability (β) of the molecule are reported, using which the non-linear property of the molecule is discussed. The HOMO-LUMO mappings are reported which reveals the different charge transfer possibilities within the molecule. The isotropic chemical shifts predicted for (1)H and (13)C atoms using gauge invariant atomic orbital (GIAO) theory show good agreement with experimental shifts. NBO analysis is carried out to picture the charge transfer between the localized bonds and lone pairs. The local reactivity of the molecule has been studied using the Fukui function. The thermodynamic properties (heat capacity, entropy and enthalpy) at different temperatures are also calculated.

NBO, conformational, NLO, HOMO-LUMO, NMR and electronic spectral study on 1-phenyl-1-propanol by quantum computational methods

In this study, FT-IR, FT-Raman, NMR and UV spectra of 1-phenyl-1-propanol, an intermediate of anti-depressant drug fluoxetine, has been investigated. The theoretical vibrational frequencies and optimized geometric parameters have been calculated by using HF and density functional theory with the hybrid methods B3LYP, B3PW91 and 6-311+G(d,p)/6-311++G(d,p) basis sets. The theoretical vibrational frequencies have been found in good agreement with the corresponding experimental data. (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra were recorded and chemical shifts of the molecule were compared to TMS by using the Gauge-Independent Atomic Orbital (GIAO) method. A study on the electronic and optical properties, absorption wavelengths, excitation energy, dipole moment and frontier molecular orbital energies are performed using HF and DFT methods. The thermodynamic properties (heat capacity, entropy and enthalpy) at different temperatures are also calculated. NBO analysis is carried out to picture the charge transfer between the localized bonds and lone pairs. The local reactivity of the molecule has been studied using the Fukui function. NLO properties related to polarizability and hyperpolarizability are also discussed.

Analysis of the molecular structure and vibrational spectra of the indole based analgesic drug indomethacin

The stability of the syn and anti structures of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug indomethacin were investigated by the DFT-B3LYP and ab initio MP2 calculations with the 6-311G(**) basis set. The molecule was predicted at the DFT and MP2 levels of calculation to have the syn (C1N7C10C18 ∼40°) form being about 1.7 and 1.5kcal/mol, respectively lower in energy than the anti (C1N7C10C18 ∼140°) structure. The calculated CNCC torsional angles for the chlorobenzene and indole rings syn-anti conformational interconversion was in a good qualitative agreement with the reported X-ray angles (C1N7C10C18 ∼29 and 155°) for the syn and anti conformers, respectively). Indomethacin was estimated from the calculated Gibb's free energies to have an equilibrium mixture of 95% syn and 5% anti structures at 298.15K. The vibrational wavenumbers were computed at the B3LYP level of theory and complete vibrational assignments were provided on the basis of theoretical and normal coordinate calculations combined with experimental infrared and Raman data of the molecule. The analysis of the observed spectra supports the presence of indomethacin in only one conformation at room temperature.

A study of the conformational profile and the vibrational spectra of the plant hormone indole-3-acetic acid

The structural stability of indole-3-acetic acid was investigated by DFT-B3LYP calculations with the 6-311G** basis set. From the calculations the gauche–gauche (gg) structure was predicted to be the second lowest energy minimum for the acid. It is energetically only 0.57 kcal/mol above the lowest conformer which is the trans–cis (tc) structure. A further stable conformer, however, highest in energy, is the trans–trans (tt) one, which is by 2.68 kcal/mol higher in energy than tc. The tc conformer upon full optimization turned a little bit away from real tc to a near tc (ntc) structure (defining torsional angles only changed by a few decigrades). However, the X-ray data indicate a structure in the solid, which is most similar to gg, stabilized by intermolecular eight ring hydrogen bonds. In the present DFT calculations such stabilizations cannot be accounted for, because the calculations treat only isolated molecules. To take such interactions into account at least dimers would have to be optimized. Therefore the vibrational frequencies of the gg conformer were computed at the B3LYP level of theory and tentative vibrational assignments were provided on the basis of normal coordinate analysis, normal mode calculations and experimental infrared and Raman data. However, some of the observed lines are obviously due to a small amount of the tc conformer present.

Vibrational spectra and natural bond orbital analysis of the herbicidal molecule 2(4-chlorophenoxy)-2-methyl propionic acid

The herbicide 2(4-chlorophenoxy)-2-methyl propionic acid (MCPP) has been subjected to NIR FT-Raman and infrared spectral studies. The optimized molecular structure, vibrational wavenumbers, IR intensities and Raman activities have been calculated by using density functional method (B3LYP) with the standard 6-31G(d) basis set. The calculated molecular geometry has been compared with the XRD data. The detailed assignments of the normal modes have been performed based on the potential energy distribution (PED) following the scaled quantum mechanical force field (SQMFF) methodology. The IR and Raman spectra have been plotted for the calculated wavenumbers. The simulated spectra satisfactorily coincide with the experimental spectra. The strong hyperconjugative interaction and charge delocalization that leads to the stability of the molecule have been investigated with the aid of natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis.
