Vibrational and ab initio studies of 3-acetyl-6-bromocoumarin and 3-acetyl-6-methylcoumarin

Preparation and characterization of konjac glucomannan and gum arabic composite gel

Compounding is a safe method to avoid limitations of a singular gel. Here, composite gels were prepared with konjac glucomannan (KGM) and gum arabic (GA) and evaluated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), water solubility index (WSI), water absorption index (WAI), texture profile analysis (TPA) and rheological analysis. The gel stratified when GA concentration ≥ 2.5%. FTIR indicated that the interactions of KGM and GA were mainly related to hydrogen bonds and acetyl groups, and the solution separated from gels only included GA and water molecules. The microstructures became denser and contained smaller holes at high GA concentrations as seen by SEM. WSI and WAI both increased with GA increasing. Hardness and springiness dropped when GA concentration increased from 0 to 2.0%, but they increased when GA increased from 2.0% to 4.0%. Rheological analysis showed the gels were non-Newtonian pseudoplastic fluids, with anti-thixotropy (GA ≤ 3.5%) and thixotropy (GA ≥ 4.0%). Furthermore, the gels could be classified as non-covalent gels, with higher gel strength at high GA concentrations. The non-covalent linkages included hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interaction, and hydrogen bonding held the dominated status. Therefore, KGM and GA have antagonistic and synergistic effects.

Spectroscopic and quantum chemical electronic structure investigations of 3,4-dihydrocoumarin and 3-methylcoumarin

A complete vibrational analysis of 3,4-dihydrocoumarin and 3-methylcoumarin have been performed according to SQM force field method based on ab initio and DFT calculation 6-311++G(d,p) basis set and their frequencies are compared. The influences of carbon-oxygen bond and methyl group to the vibrational frequencies of the title compounds have been discussed. The pronounced decrease of the lone pair orbital occupancy and the molecular stabilization energy show the hyperconjugation interaction from the NBO analysis. Calculations of molecular orbital geometry show that the visible absorption maxima of DHC and 3MC correspond to the electron transition between frontier orbitals such as translation from HOMO to LUMO. Gauge-including atomic orbital (GIAO) 1H and 13C chemical shift calculations have been calculated. Area of high, neutral and low electrostatic potential is determined for DHC and 3MC.

Vibrational spectra, structural conformations, scaled quantum chemical calculations and NBO analysis of 3-acetyl-7-methoxycoumarin

The powder form NIR-FT Raman and FT-IR spectra of 3-acetyl-7-methoxycoumarin (3A7MC) have been recorded in the regions 4000-400 and 3500-100 cm(-1), respectively. The equilibrium geometry, vibrational frequencies, band intensities, NMR spectra, NBO analysis and UV-Vis spectral studies of the most stable conformer have been calculated by density functional B3LYP method with the 6-311G(d,p) basis set. A complete vibrational analysis has been attempted on the basis of experimental infrared and Raman spectra, the calculated wavenumber and intensity of the vibrational bands and the potential energy distribution over the internal coordinates. Information about the size, shape, charge density distribution and site of chemical reactivity of the molecules has been obtained by mapping the electron density isosurface with electrostatic potential surfaces (ESP). Natural bond orbital analysis has been carried out to understand the nature of different interactions responsible for the electron delocalization and the intramolecular charge transfer between the orbitals (n→π(∗), n→σ(∗), π→π(∗)).
