Abstract
Sensing trivalent chromium ion (Cr(III)) is widely applied in different areas, such as clinical analysis, marine, environmental monitoring, or even chemical industry applications. Cr(III) has a significant role in the physiological process of human life. It is classified as an essential micronutrient for living organisms. Herein, we developed and designed a novel optical Cr(III) ions sensor film. The investigated sensor has a relatively small dynamic range of 1.24 × 10-3 to 0.5 μM. We report a highly sensitive optical sensor film for Cr(III) ions based on diethyl 3,4-diaminothieno[2,3-b]thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylate (3D) probe. The optical characteristics of the chemical probe exhibit substantial emission at 460 nm under 354 nm excitation. Besides, the interaction of the Cr(III) ions with 3D involves a complex formation with a 2:1 (metal: ligand) ratio, which is convoyed by the main peak enhancement that centered at 460 nm of 3D, and the main peak is red-shifted to 480 nm. The easily discernible fluorescence enhancement effect is a defining characteristic of the complexation reaction between the 3D probe and Cr(III). On the basis of the substantial fluorescence mechanism caused by the formation of a (Cr(III)-3D complex, which inhibits the photo-induced electron transfer (PET) process, the devised optical sensor was proposed. This film exhibits exceptional sensitivity and selectivity due to its notable fluorescence properties, stock shift of less than 106 nm, and detection capabilities at a significantly low detection limit of 0.37 × 10-3 μM. The detection procedure is executed by utilizing a physiological pH medium (pH = 7.4) with a relative standard deviation RSDr (1 %, n = 3). In addition, the 3D sensor demonstrates a high degree of affinity for Cr(III), as determined by the calculation of its binding constant to be 1.40 × 106. We present an impressive optical sensor that is constructed upon a three-dimensional molecule.

Abstract
A dispersive micro-solid phase extraction (Dµ-SPE) method for the preconcentration of trace metal ions (Pb, Cd, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) on graphene oxide with the complexing reagents neocuproine or batocuproine is presented here. Metal ions form cationic complexes with neocuproine and batocuproine. These compounds are adsorbed on the GO surface via electrostatic interactions. The factors affecting the separation and preconcentration of analytes such as pH, eluent (concentration, type, volume), amount of neocuproine, batocuproine and GO, mixing time, and sample volume were optimized. The optimal sorption pH was 8. The adsorbed ions were effectively eluted with 5 mL 0.5 mol L-1 HNO3 solution and determined by the ICP-OES technique. The preconcentration factor for the GO/neocuproine and GO/batocuproine in the range 10-100 and 40-200 was obtained for the analytes, with detection limits of 0.035-0.84 ng mL-1 and 0.047-0.54 ng mL-1, respectively. The method was validated by the analysis of the three certified reference materials: M-3 HerTis, M-4 CormTis, and M-5 CodTis. The procedure was applied to determine metal levels in food samples.

Abstract
Excessive cadmium ions in water bodies pose a severe challenge to ecology and human health, and the development of cadmium metal ion sensors is imperative. Here, we showed a dual-signal sensor based on colorimetry and fluorescence that was self-assembled from FeOOH nanosheets and TMPyP4. This nanocomposite enabled quick, selective cadmium ion detection. The Soret band at 442 nm in the UV absorption spectrum represented the coordination of cadmium ions with FeOOH@TMPyP4, and the absorbance increased linearly with increasing cadmium ion concentration (R2 = 0.989 and linear range: 0.5-10 μM). In the presence of FeOOH nanosheets, the coordination of cadmium ions with FeOOH@TMPyP4 took only 70 min, and the detection limit of cadmium ions was as low as 0.24 μM. In addition, Cd2+ could be effectively removed from the nanocomposite due to its easy separation from water. This research developed a simple and efficient approach for detecting and removing heavy metal ions from water bodies.

Abstract
In this work, we developed an aptamer-based optical assay for the analysis of Pb2+, a hazardous heavy metal that may be present in the food chain and harmful to human health. An aptamer targeted against Pb2+ was immobilized onto the microplate as the capture probe. SiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized and used as carriers of the signaling horseradish peroxidase (HRP) to achieve amplification of the optical signal. Complementary DNA (cDNA) of the aptamer was also linked to the above mentioned SiO2 nanoparticle (NPs) as the signal probe. The aptamers were found to be able to capture Pb2+, and the unbound aptamers were subsequently hybridized with cDNA-HRP-SiO2 conjugates. As a result, the addition of TMB-H2O2 promoted the formation of blue products in the catalytic system. The assay adopting SiO2 NPs as an enhancer resulted in higher sensitivity with an LOD of 2.5 nM compared to normal procedures. The feasibility of the aptamer-based colorimetric assay was verified by successful detection of Pb2+ in water samples with recoveries in the range of 97.4-103.52%.

Abstract
In this study, a new, cheap, simple and rapid method for the determination of copper in water and food samples using air-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction and digital image decomposition into the primary colors Red (R), Green (G) and Blue (B) is introduced. In the proposed method, sodium diethyl-dithiocarbamate (Na-DDTC) and carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) were used as the chelating agent and extraction solvent, respectively. The digital images of the extraction phase were obtained using an Android mobile phone and analyzed using a free app (Color Grab). Then the value of the B channel was taken as the analytical signal. The effects of different parameters influencing the extraction efficiency were investigated and optimized. Under the optimal conditions, the limit of detection (LOD) and quantitation (LOQ) were 1.5 and 5 μg L-1, respectively. The repeatability of the proposed method, expressed as the relative standard deviation (RSD), was 4.53% for intra-day (n = 8, C = 100 μg L-1) and 5.66% for inter-day (n = 5) precision. The proposed method was applied for the determination of trace amounts of copper in rice, lettuce and water samples with satisfactory results validated by the Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry technique.

Abstract
Environmental monitoring and potable water control are key applications where optical fiber sensing solutions can outperform other technologies. In this work, we report a highly sensitive plasmonic fiber-optic probe that has been developed to determine the concentration of cadmium ions (Cd2+) in solution. This original sensor was fabricated by immobilizing the Acinetobacter sp. around gold-coated tilted fiber Bragg gratings (TFBGs). To this aim, the immobilization conditions of bacteria on the gold-coated optical fiber surface were first experimentally determined. Then, the coated sensors were tested in vitro. The relative intensity of the sensor response experienced a change of 1.1 dB for a Cd2+ concentration increase from 0.1 to 1000 ppb. According to our test procedure, we estimate the experimental limit of detection to be close to 1 ppb. Cadmium ions strongly bind to the sensing surface, so the sensor exhibits a much higher sensitivity to Cd2+ than to other heavy metal ions such as Pb2+, Zn2+ and CrO42- found in contaminated water, which ensures a good selectivity.

Abstract
A novel strategy for colorimetric and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) dual-mode sensing of the lead ions (Pb2+) was established based on gluconate ion (Gluc) modified and 2-Naphthalenethiol (2-NT) tagged Au-Ag core-shell nanoparticles (NPs). Due to the complex formation between adsorbed Gluc and Pb2+, the addition of Pb2+ can induce the aggregation of Gluc/2-NT@Au@Ag NPs. Correspondingly, the aggregated Gluc/2-NT@Au@Ag NPs caused a significant difference in the color and SERS intensity. As a result, such Gluc/2-NT@Au@Ag NPs can achieve the sensing of Pb2+ using both colorimetric and SERS signals as the indicator, which features with wide response range from 10-11 to 10-5 M, rapid screening and high sensitivity (with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.185 pM). Furthermore, such dual-mode sensor was demonstrated not to be responsive to other cations, and facilitate the sensing of real samples in practical environment. With rapid screening ability and outstanding sensitivity, we anticipate that this method would holding great potential for the applications in environmental monitoring.

Abstract
Graphene oxide (GO) was chemically functionalized with 5-amino-1,10-phenanthroline. The resulting conjugate (phen-GO) was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The experiments show that phen-GO has a high affinity for extraction of Pb(II) ions. Isotherms and kinetics fit the Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order equations. By using phen-GO as a sorbent, Pb(II) ions can be quantitatively adsorbed at pH 6.0. The adsorption capacity is 548 mg g-1. Following desorption with 2 mol L-1 HNO3, Pb(II) was quantified by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. The effects of pH value, eluent type, sorption time, sample volume, and matrix ions were optimized. The accuracy of the method was validated by analysis of the reference materials DOLT-3 (dogfish liver) and SRM 1640a (natural water). Under optimal conditions, the calibration plots cover the 0.25 to 500 ng mL-1 Pb(II) concentration range. The method was successfully applied to the analysis of spiked water and biological samples. Other figures of merit include a preconcentration factor of 250, a detection limit of 46 ng L-1, and a relative standard deviation of <5%. Abstract
This paper explored the method of combining atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) technology and hyperbranched polymer principle to prepare the high capacity chelating resin. First, surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) method was used to graft glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) on chloromethylated cross-linked styrene-divinylbenzene resin, and then the novel polyamine chelating resin with a kind of hyperbranched structure was prepared through the amination reaction between amino group of (2-aminoethyl) triamine and epoxy group in GMA. This resin had a selective effect on As(V) and Cr(VI) at a relatively low pH and can be used for the disposal of waste water containing As(V) and Cr(VI). It had a relatively strong adsorption effect on Cu(II), Pb(II), Cd(II) and Cr(III) and can be used for the disposal of heavy metal ion waste water. The finding was that, the adsorption capacity of resin on the studied heavy metal ions was higher than that of the chelating resin synthesized by traditional technology and also higher than that of the resin modified by ATRP technology and bifunctional chelator, indicating that the combination of ATRP and hyperbranched polymer concept is an effective method to prepare chelating resin with high capacity.

Abstract
In this study we report the production of a monoclonal antibody (Mab) specific for Cr(III)-chelate and the development of a competitive immunoassay for detection of Cr(III) in water samples. In the assay, the complete antigen (Cr(III)-ITCBE-BSA) was used as coating antigen, and Cr(III)-ITCBE as competitor competes with coating antigen to bind with Mab. Using this approach, the spiked water samples with Cr(III) were detected. The linear range of the detection was 0.7-12.4 ng mL(-1). The limit of the detection (LOD) was 0.51 ng mL(-1). The spiked results were also confirmed by ICP-MS, which showed a good correlation (R(2)=0.997) between the two methods. The results indicated that the developed assay was reliable and suitable for the detection of Cr(III) in water samples.
