Influence of NaCl Concentration on Food-Waste Biochar Structure and Templating Effects

Food-waste-derived biochar structures obtained through pyrolysis and with different NaCl concentrations were investigated. Increased NaCl concentration in the samples inhibited cellulose and lignin decomposition, ultimately increasing the biochar yield by 2.7% for 20%-NaCl concentration. NaCl added in solution state exhibited templating effects, with maximum increases in the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area and pore volume of 1.23 to 3.50 m2∙g−1 and 0.002 to 0.007 cm3∙g−1, respectively, after washing. Adding a high concentration (20%) of NaCl reduced the BET surface area. In contrast, the mean pore diameter increased owing to the increased NaCl clustering area. Increased NaCl clustering with increased added NaCl was shown to have positive effects on NaCl removal by washing. Furthermore, as the NaCl adhered to the KCl scattered in the food waste, a high NaCl concentration also had positive effects on KCl removal. This study reports on an investigation on the effects of varying NaCl concentrations injected in solution form on the structure of food-waste biochar during pyrolysis. The templating effect was considered using both added NaCl and NaCl already contained in the food waste, with implementation of a desalination process essential for food-waste treatment for recycling.

X-ray crystal and DFT study of a potent anti-HIV-1 agent: 2-(5,5-Dioxido-3-phenylpyrazolo[4,3-c][1,2]benzothiazin-4(2H)-yl)-N′-[(3-nitrophenyl)methylidene]acetohydrazide

This study presents structural features of an important benzothiazine derivative -[Formula: see text]2-(5,5-Dioxido-3-phenylpyrazolo[4,3-c][1,2]benzothiazin-4(2H)-yl)-N[Formula: see text]-[(3-nitrophenyl)methylidene]acetohydrazide. Molecular structure is characterized by single crystal XRD and compared with optimized geometry at B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) and PBE0/6-31G(d,p) levels of density functional theory (DFT). Simulated properties (1H-NMR & IR) are in good correlation with experimental results. Electronic properties (coefficients of HOMO and LUMO) are also presented.

Molecular structure analysis and spectroscopic characterization of 9-methoxy-2H-furo[3,2-g]chromen-2-one with experimental (FT-IR and FT-Raman) techniques and quantum chemical calculations

Experimental and theoretical investigations on the molecular structure, electronic and vibrational characteristics of 9-methoxy-2H-furo[3,2-g]chromen-2-one (9M2HFC) were presented. The vibrational frequencies were obtained by DFT/B3LYP calculations employing 6-311++G(d,p) basis set, were compared with experimental FT-IR and FT-Raman spectral data. The FT-IR spectrum (4000-400 cm(-1)) and FT-Raman spectrum (4000-100 cm(-1)) in solid phase were recorded for 9M2HFC. The geometry of the title compound was fully optimized. Quantum chemical calculations of the equilibrium geometry, the complete vibrational assignments of wavenumbers using potential energy distribution (PED) calculated with scaled quantum mechanics infrared intensities, Raman activities of the title molecule was reported. HOMO-LUMO energies, molecular electrostatic potential, Mulliken population analysis on atomic charges, natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis, non linear optical behavior in terms of first order hyperpolarizability, and thermodynamic properties of the title molecule were carried out. Finally, simulated FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra showed good agreement with the observed spectra.
